rivers and creeks right to your doorstep. this is the situation right now in ross as the creek rises. that is just the beginning. more stunning pictures throughout the next half hour. thanks for joining us. >> we do want to get straight to meteorologist mike nico. i want to stay up in the north bay for one second to give you an update on the flash flood warning. it's still flooding mill valley. we had good news about an hour ago. since we last talked at 10:00,

we've had some new flood warnings issued. this is for the creek. as you head deeper into the santa cruz mountains, flooding is possible especially near la honda until about 1:30. here is a look at live doppler 7. you can see the best radar returns are ringing the south bay from about highway 92 all the way around. with this light rain falling right now we're still having issues with flooding. as we move through my pm planner, heaviest rain will be at 2:00. lightest intensify at 4:00 and light rain at 6:00 and 8:00. that will keep things wet and hopefully not the hydroplaning and the incidents we saw this morning. >> just hoping it starts to get

easier. at ours worst point we were up to 150 incidents. we've got plenty of trouble spots. i want to take you back to westbound 37. that's closed once again due to flooding. you're having to divert off. we have chp helping with that. we have flooding with a couple of lanes closed here. we just got a big new issue in for highway 17, santa cruz mountains. this is exactly the same place where we had the big slide a few weeks ago that hit our own news van. all lanes are closed now. you're being forced off at granite creek road. if you're tired of rain, imagine what they're going

through this morning. gown h downtown had to be evacuated again. this is the fifth time they have seen water rise like this. wayne is watching it all this morning. >> we heard the alarm sound this morning. that means one thing. take a look behind me here. this may look dramatic but it's down about five feet. let's show you video from earlier this morning. this is the same spot when the creek crested at 14 feet. that's three feet above flood states. barely clearing the bridge. business owners, as we know, have done this drill before. they had their sand bags out and then they had more sand bags. you're looking at casey gardener who just opened the store called tumble weed this morning. note she had a flood gate. this was her last act before

closing the place up. she tried to get everything as high as she could get it to get it away from the water, clothe, speakers, computers. she just move into this space a month ago. told me it's the fifth time this winter that business owners have done this same drill. i thought she would return to find the place dry, she said she did. she also said she's an optimist. as we come back live, we're standing in the very same spot where the water was lapping a while ago. it seemed like any second it might crest the streets. it was interesting. right about the time casey moved out of her house, about 9:00 a.m., the rain that had been pounding all night began to subsi subside. when the rain stops, the creek stops rising about an hour later. that's what happened. you see the water is down four to five feet from where it was earlier.

what we have is alarming but not the tragedy that so many had feared. it's not going to be another 2005 at this point. not a repeat of 1921 or 1925, 1943, 1955 or 1982. we should note it wasn't just them. in fair fax the creek was right beneath the police station. it wouldn't have gone any higher. same along butter field road behind fire station. this as close as the ross valley can come to having a flood and not seeing it actually happen. as close as you can get. we'll get back at this. we hear there's some evacuations elsewhere. that's the latest wayne freedman, abc 7. >> great to see the water going down. thank you for your reporting. kayaking in the streets. flood waters are high and emergency crews have been busy

already rescuing a dozen people trapped in flood waters. abc reporter is there live. >> reporter: look behind me there's a residents right there taking his kid out not for a stroll but some paddling to check out the neighborhood. about 100 homes here impacted. we're told to evacuate. the siren went off about 8:00 this morning when the creek reached about 20 feet in ross. it was early morning wake up call for people to get out. here's some cell phone video of researchers cue that the firefighter department did. the firefighters shot this. they had to help save a woman stuck in her home. they got her out okay. they also had to pull people out of their cars. firefighters said they had to call in extra crews to keep up with the demand this morning. people were trapped in their cars at marin college. all the rain was just too much. it impacted a huge area of

people. one resident says the homes appear to be okay. >> coy pond is under water. i hope the fish make it okay. the house is okay. >> house is three or four feet in the air. >> red cross came in a long time ago and raised the waters to get them up out of the flood water. >> this area alone we have about 100 homes backing up to the creek. we've had thousands of residents affected by the storm. >> reporter: they tell me no one was hurt. they did get everyone out okay. we saw firefighters using wave runners to go through the neighborhood. they knocked on doors opinion those who were still in their homes decided they wanted to stay. firefighters have checked on everyone. everyone is all right. this is on laurel avenue. they did have to rescue the woman in that car, but the water was up to the windows. you can see how much it has receded this morning.

it does appear that the worst is over. long time residents out here in kent field tell us this is the worst they have seen in years. >> glad everyone is a all right and that little kid is getting paddle practice. let's check on the south bay. it's not been spared today. we have been watching hard rain and mudslides as well. >> reporter: it's hard to believe just two years ago at the peak of drought the guadalupe river through downtown san jose was dry. now take a look at it. pretty impressive now. the forecast says it should stay under the flood stage. that could always change. what a mess this morning. big downpours and gusty winds that created dangerous conditions around los gatos.

it blocked lanes in both directions. crews were out there all morning long trying to clean it up. not too far away on thomas drive a tree came down at around 6 :3 this morning. power was wiped out to the neighborhood. people living there are just grateful it wasn't worse. >> we're just very, very fortunate and feel really lucky that no one was hurt. as you can see it damaged our neighbor's house as well and went through their kitchen. we're just really thankful. >> reporter: guadalupe creek wads running very high. that water flows into the river and the river is now flowing. it's roaring. at some point of the river the levels are expected to peak later today and start going down. more rain means we'll be keeping a close eye on the waterways.

matt keller, abc 7 news. a large tree and mud came crashing down the hillside in the southbound lanes about a mile south of bear creek road. if your commute takes you along that route plan carefully. lane closures may still be in effect. >> one of our abc 7 news prod e producers sent us this video of a tree that toppled over in his neighborhood. you can see just how soaked that ground is from this rain. thankfully, no one here hurt. >> this pretty much sums up the situation if pleasant hill right now. take a look at the flooding near patterson boulevard and santa barbara road this morning. overflowing storm drains and sewers exacerbating the issues. drivers ignoring the warning driving straight around barricades, not recommended. >> in vacaville this is new video of the flooding. you can see the roadway flooding from this video posted by the

we have updated numbers on power outages around the bay area. there's just over 5500 customers without power in the north bay. in the east bay 1900. another 1700 in the south bay. 196 customers in the dark in san francisco. there's also a number of school closures today. we have all the information on the power outages and the school closures on our website, abc7news.com. as the storm has been moving across the bay area, a lot you have have been showing us what it's like in your neighborhood. >> jessica castro has a look at the pictures and videos pouring into our news room.

i've been trying to get the latest information on all this stuff. you need to evacuate now. it's life or death. it is flooding. get out of there. get to higher ground now.

let's take a look at what's going on as far as some of our other flood warning out there. we'll start with the entire napa valley being flooded. that's going to continue until 1:15. i've got some flooding. that will continue on the san lorenzo river especially major flooding reached at big trees. that will continue until 3:30. let's go up the road and you can see the creek especially near niles boulevard. that's where we're seeing the most extensive flooding. it could flood down to the reservoir. this will last for a while. flooding around until 5:30. as we head up to the sonoma, you can see right there flood warning until 12:00. wefr had a lot of reports until 1:21 for several hours this morning. we've got this one for the laguna day santa rosa creek.

all right. let me show you live doppler 7. the best radar returns are coming at you in the higher elevations on either side of the santa clara valley. you can see the north bay is getting a bit of a break now. flash flooding, if we have in is most likely going to be in the south where you see the heavier rain. it occurs quicker. that's why it's called flash flooding. flooding that takes longer for the water to meander it's way in and create the flooding, that could occur in any area. moderate and light rain. warm, dry sunshine. it will feel like spring this weekend. mainly for the impact in the north bay and more so the santa cruz mountains with the heavy rain and gusty winds. here we are at noon. you can see the yellows mainly

on either side where live doppler 7 was showing now. notice by 4:00 it's tapering to light rain for most of us. look at the storm. it starts to come back up at us from the north. if a flash flood warning is issued, you have to react quickly. you have to know what to do. it's going to be dark if that happens during that time frame. you can see be 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 through the morning commute this moves up through the heart of the bay into the north bay. moderate rain for tomorrow's commute. very high, stream and creek flooding and trees down. quick look at some of the wind advisory until noon for the bay shoreline. for everything else there's still a potential for wind damage until about 1:00. all right. here is a look at my seven-day forecast. tomorrow's a one. light. a two for thursday, moderate.

a light storm friday and then 60s and sunshine this weekend. the napa river is flooding now. i'll take a look at that when we come back. >> thank you. all eyes, make that all rears will be on san francisco this afternoon as oral arguments are made between both sides of president trump's immigration ban. three judges will hear oral arguments this afternoon. each side gets 30 minutes to make their case on whether the president's ban should be restored after a federal judge in seattle blocked it. the justice department says it's a matter of national security and within the president's authority. the state's say it's effectively mandating discrimination. it's expected to be decided by the supreme court. arguments are slated to start at 3:00 this afternoon. be sure to enable push alert. a historic move by vice president mike pence. he broke a 50-50 tie to confirm
