and we do say good morning to you, everyone, on this friday. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm adrienne bankert in for diane macedo. we want to begin with the developing story at this hour. the monster storm bearing down on the west coast packing more heavy rain on already swamped areas. the radar there giving you an idea of just how enormous this system is. forecasters say it is packing another round of intense rainfall that's expected to last throughout the weekend. >> emergency officials are concerned. ground stability is an issue saying they expect more landslides like this one that shut down two lanes of interstate 5 in washington state last night. northern california officials now say they believe that the damaged oroville dam is stable enough to withstand the approaching storms after they drained the lake behind the dam to a much safer level, but those draining efforts have a downside. some of the water released from the dam ended up flooding an historic cemetery in the city of marysville. now, accuweather's justin povick

very busy this morning. he's tracking all the details on the hardest hit areas. good morning, justin. >> adrienne, kendis, thanks and good morning to you. a major storm now making its move into the golden state of california. extremely high impacts from the bay area but especially towards the l.a. basin. and as we go in a little closer here, we are expecting again several inches of rain, higher amounts into the foothills. this could cause mudslides, rockslides and flash flooding. big delays expected here along interstate 5. adrienne, kendis, back to you. >> all right, thank you so much, justin. yeah, i grew up not too far away from marysville and that flooding we saw in northern california. but now we want to get to that extraordinary event at the white house. >> there's lots of new reaction overnight to president trump's lengthy first solo news conference since taking office. okay, so by the numbers, it lasted 77 minutes. the president taking questions from 17 different reporters, and here's the cover of "the new york post" this morning, donald trump as ringmaster, the headline, the wildest show on

earth. so, let's get -- let's check in now with abc's stephanie ramos who is in washington for some details. good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: kendis and adrienne, good morning. what a week, right? yesterday's press conference, that was the press conference to watch. for a change the president called on a range of reporters, not just conservative news outlets, and he hit on a number of topics. president trump playing defense and offense during a free-wheeling and at times combative east room press conference. >> the press honestly is out of control. >> reporter: the event initially to announce a new nominee for labor secretary, former u.s. attorney and now law school dean alexander acosta -- >> i think he will be a tremendous secretary of labor. >> reporter: -- quickly turned to his accomplishments at the white house so far despite the high drama we've seen in less than a month, the firing of his national security adviser, his travel ban struck down by the courts, his confrontations with u.s. allies. >> this administration is running like a fine-tuned machine.

>> reporter: the president bouncing from leaks of classified material blaming the intelligence community. >> those are criminal leaks. >> reporter: to russia. >> i have nothing to do with russia. >> reporter: and again boasting about his election win in november. >> we got 306. i guess it was the biggest electoral college win since ronald reagan. >> reporter: the problem, that's not true. presidents obama, clinton and the first president bush all won with more electoral votes than president trump. as another reporter pointed out, trump's numbers were wrong. >> i don't know. i was given that information. i was -- actually -- >> reporter: then this exchange with a reporter from american urban radio networks. >> are you going to include the cbc, mr. president, in your conversations with your urban agenda, your inner city agenda -- >> am i going to include who? >> are you going to include the congressional black caucus and the congressional -- >> i would. i tell you what, do you want to set up the meeting? do you want to set up the meeting. >> no, no, no. >> are they friends of yours? no, set up the meeting.

>> i know some of them but -- >> let's go set up a meeting. i would love to meet with the black caucus. i think it's great. >> reporter: that exchange getting a lot of attention this morning. the question came as a shock to members of the congressional black caucus who say they reached out to president trump but never got a response. the cbc says they would never expect a reporter no matter their race to set up that meeting. adrienne, kendis, back over to you. >> well, stephanie, now the white house says that it is reaching out to the cbc to set up that meeting, and the president was also asked about several recent provocations by russia. among them, russian jets buzzing a navy destroyer in the black sea last week. >> there's also been russia's secret deployment of a new cruise missile, an apparent violation of an arms treaty and a russian spy ship. that's being tracked off the east coast. the president saying these are serious concerns. >> the greatest thing i could do is shoot that ship that's 30 miles offshore right out of the water. everyone in this country is going to say, oh, it's so great. that's not great. that's not great.

>> well, that said mr. trump would not reveal any possible retaliation for those provocations. and the administration continues its search for a national security adviser this morning. retired admiral robert harwood turned down an offer to replace michael flynn. harwood, who is also an abc news contributor, cited family commitments and said he did not turn down the job because any apparent dysfunction at the white house would lead him to. well, breaking overnight a collision between two airliners at the airport in phoenix. a departing denver bound frontier airlines plane clipped the wing of an arriving southwest airlines plane, and that was coming from oklahoma city. scary for the passengers, right? on the southwest jet you can actually see the wing tip completely ripped off. airport crews say the collision caused a fuel leak. no injuries have been reported. the ntsb and faa are investigating. well, still ahead, the big changes coming to your food labels. and new this morning a street brawl leading to serious charges for a football star.

protesters hit the streets of portland, oregon, overnight to remember quanice hayes, a 17-year-old who was shot and killed by a police officer. the march started peacefully but then escalated when protesters threw signs and street cones and damaged at least one vehicle. hayes was shot and killed by police after an armed robbery last week. they say he appeared to be carrying a gun, but it turned out to be a replica. thousands of people skipped work and hit the streets as part of a nationwide protest called a

day without immigrants. the boycott was aimed at president trump's crackdown on immigration. the shortage of workers forced some restaurants, stores and other businesses to shut down, which organizers say demonstrates the importance of immigrant workers to the u.s. economy. a consumer alert now and the recall of 700,000 strollers. britax says a connector linking the car seat to the stroller could cause children to fall. at least 26 injuries have been reported so far. consumers can contact them for a free repair kit. you can also find more information on our website, atmfans.com. major changes may soon be coming to the sell by dates on food labels. walmart is among those backing the change. supporters say it will not only reduce confusion but keep consumers from wasting food and cash. abc's becky worley has details. >> reporter: could new product date labels be arriving at a grocery store near you? to see if it's still good, look at the label, but that's where it gets really confusing. best by september of 2016. best by?

welcome back. the storms battering the west coast are blamed for the collapse of a riverbank south of seattle. look at that picture right there. forecasts have issued flood watches and warnings that could last all weekend. if you're heading out the door for work this morning, be on the lookout for wet roads and flooding in southern oregon, all of california and nevada. another trouble spot, the gulf coast. >> yeah, my family better stay dry. given all that you can expect weather-related airport delays in, to no surprise, san francisco and l.a. investigators say a terrifying plot has been stopped. police say a florida man wanted to bomb target stores along the east coast of the state to get rich. >> listen to this. investigators say 48-year-old mark barnett offered a paid informant $10,000 to put homemade bombs inside target stores all along the east coast and detectives say he hoped would cause the target

stock price to fall allowing him to buy shares for less money. >> fascinating plot there. a south carolina man, in the meantime, facing charges for allegedly planning a dylann roof-style attack. benjamin mcdowall, you see his photo there, his alleged targets included a synagogue and minorities. he was arrested after buying a gun and ammunition from an undercover fbi agent. you'll recall dylann roof killed nine black parishioners in south carolina in 2015 and was just sentenced to death last month. nfl star darrelle revis facing felony charges in pittsburgh after a weekend altercation. police say the new york jets defensive back and another man punched two men and left them unconscious early sunday. investigators say revis became upset after the alleged victims began recording him with a cell phone. revis now faces assault and other charges. and a massachusetts man escaped serious injury when a laptop battery exploded in his living room. take a look at what's left of the computer. it caused several small fires burning a blanket and burning a hole through his coffee table. rodney and carol johnson ordered the replacement lithium ion battery for about $11 online.

state regulators are trying to determine if there is a problem with the battery brand. a security camera was rolling when a mother and her toddler managed to escape certain death. watch here. they were walking when an out-of-control car knocked them over the ramp and then landed just inches away from them. amazingly they survived. you can see it there. >> oh, my goodness. >> they did suffer multiple injuries, but they're very fortunate this morning. a worker at an indoor skydiving center in texas makes an incredible save catching a falling toddler with one hand. the boy's dad placed him on the counter as he turned to speak to someone else. as the little boy starts to fall, the worker quickly moves in to keep him from hitting the ground, and then he celebrates with a victory dance knowing that the security camera was there and a thumbs up. >> not really a dance but more like a power ranger stance and a thumbs up. >> i got this. >> thank you, thank you.

now at 4:30, the bay area is waking up to another round of heavy rain and strong winds. just take a look here at live doppler 7. you can see all that green. >> and take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza right now. the rain, as you can see, coming down pretty hard, but this is not the worst of it. we're told by mike nicco that in about an hour, it's going to get even stronger. good morning to you on this friday, february 17. you made it to the end of the week. >> brace yourselves. you need that umbrella today. let's check in with mike.. good morning. >> good morning, guys. let's start with live doppler 7. you can see i've got it zoomed down between the bay bridge and the san mateo bridge and out to san ramon and that's where we have the moderate rain rushing north right now. ponding on the roadways already as that storm is surging in from the south.

you can see the wetness on the embarcadero here in san francisco. heavy spots at 7:00, windy with moderate spots at noon and calmer with scattered showers at 4:00 and then random showers at 7:00. now the winds are going to be an issue. i'll show you the high wind watch. current wind speeds right now and an hour-by-hour look at the rain coming up next. no wind advisories for our bridges yet by chp but that could change. i drove across the bay bridge myself this morning. we are hearing about dense fog. i have live doppler 7 on top of our traffic maps so we can't really see too much fog but it is reported along highway 4 as you come through the concord and hercules area so along with the really wet pavement, you're going to be dealing with reduced visibility. here's a live look at golden gate bridge. it is soggy this morning and we do have a handful of collisions already. i'll talk about those coming up next. as we watch those roadways and the skies all over the bay area, people also keeping a very

close eye on some very full reservoirs. >> including in morgan hill as the next round of rain moves in. matt keller is there for us live. >> reporter: good morning, reggie. you know, during the drought years, we used to say, well, we can really use the rain but this is difficult to say through all that training but we really don't need the rain and this is why. we can't hold the water that we have. this is the anderson reservoir. it's 99% full and all of this water is heading into the coyote creek. all these releases. we have more rain in the forecast, which is going to make this worse. once it reaches full capacity, the water also begins spilling over the top of the dam into a concrete spillway designed to relieve pressure. all that water will do this. let's show you this video, create a swollen coyote creek. there are a number of low-lying communities that are close to the floodplain so there is a risk that they could flood. the reservoir is only supposed to be at 68% capacit because of

seismic concerns so they have no choice if you release all this water. it's a sight to see here certainly, but just hope that there's no flooding because of it. reporting live in morgan hill, matt keller, abc7 news. matt, thank you. pg&e is putting its mobile generators on stand by in case of major power outages. abc7 news was in benicia where many of the units are already loaded and ready to go. pg&e is using emergency power systems more often to get the lights back on in storm outages. in fact, they've already been used in san rafael, diablo, and fairfield. >> pg&e has a plan when it comes to a storm event like the one that's coming this weekend and part of that plan is to prepare for large-scale outages and that's when we call on a greco. >> we can power anything from a single home, single residence, up to, say, 5,000 or >> the generating systems can
