now at 5:00 a.m., the heart of the storm has passed and now it's time to deal with the aftermath. >> that looks like a mess. flooding across the bay area, including at one of our airports. >> we also saw the high winds bringing down trees like this one that fell on top of two homes in the east bay. here's the good news. the rain is dying down. so, all of those days of just -- i mean, this has really been so hard on so many people, mike. it's been troublesome. >> and it's touching more and more people every time we go through this like we saw with livermore yesterday.
5:01 am
my wife was driving through yesterday and she said everything looked like a like. there were firefighters helping people get through the roads. the longer we go through this, the more it's going to affect you. this not my backyard thing is becoming very small amount. walnut creek, pleasant hill and concord, you can see right up there, heading up towards pittsburg, that's where some of our downpours are right now and you can see that line stretches all the way back to about redwood city and that's one of the last downpours. in fact, look at that. is that the moon? yeah. that's the moon. here's a look at your 12 hour day planner. downpours possible from 7:00 and scattered showers from noon until 4:00. those slick roads causings issues already. those water logged roads are causing issues, they are in terrible shape and 580 has had all kinds of pothole problems so we've got them again this morning. westbound 580 just past north flynn road, the two right lanes closed for a major pothole repairs, two left lanes are open and boy this could likely be a long-term situation.
5:02 am
we've got about six vehicles that have flat tires on the shoulder because that was such major pothole and we saw that a couple weeks ago where the rebar was exposed so haven't got an look at it yet but as soon as i find out, i'll let you know. no delays westbound 4, or southbound 101, next at traffic update coming up. as we feared, the hours of rain we received led to flooding throughout the bay area. >> including the south bay and los gatos creek. abc7 news reporter lonni rivera is live to show us the impact. >> reporter: the rains that stopped but boy is it chilly and damp and here's a look at the los gatos creek. you can see fast-moving current this morning from the storm, which dumped so much water into this creek. well here's a look at all that water. so much of it spilled over the los gatos trail overnight. and then san jose, coyote creek flooded, the south bay mobile home park.
5:03 am
fire crews pumped water near kim's front door. >> i heard that it still could have a chance, the creek could overflow this way and we're on alert, i think, until thursday. so we thought we'd get a few things together just in case. >> reporter: drivers dealt with closed lanes on highway 280. those lanes were underwater. the situation slowed traffic to a crawl. los gatos creek moving fast, deep and lots of water, and it flooded the trail behind us. we're live here in los gatos, lonni rivera, abc7 news. check out this new video this morning. what you're looking at is the first floor of a parking garage at san jose's international airplane. this is near term flal a. that is terrible. crews are working to remove all that water. we are making calls to get an update on when they're going to wrap up and if they find any serious damage there. this massive tree came crashing down into two homes in

5:05 am
the brunt of the tree's fall. in marin county, flooding is not the issue so much. it is the mudslides. take a look at this slide just outside of san rafael. it closed part of highland avenue, it's a small road universitied by residents there. a yums tree at the top of the hill caused concern for road crews who removed it. then near tiburon, crews cleared another mudslide that spilled into the road. with the holiday yesterday, many people were off the roads, thank goodness, and that made clean-up a lot easier. storm damage has forced caltrans to shut down both directions of highway 1 in davenport. caltrans says downed trees and wires as well as mudslides near swanton road are the cause of that closure. drivers are now supposed to use highway 17 as a detour. the chp says a rock slide has closed southbound highway 17. caltrans is reinspecting the pfeiffer canyon bridge in monterey county tie.
5:06 am
cre crews shut it down a week ago. because of all those cracks you can see there, it's just south of big sur along highway 1. caltrans says it's moving because of mudslides under the bridge. they don't expect to find it safe enough to open today. look at these crashing waves. pacifica also dealing with its share of storm damage. officials shut down the pier and it will not reopen until the waves die down a bit. here's abc7 news reporter lilian kim. >> reporter: pacifica pier has been closed due to high surf. people when live in the area have seen high waves over the years but they find tonight's conditions. >> we came down together to see the waves. pretty exciting to see how big the waves can get and see them crashing against the rocks. >> it's pretty crazy. little bit more would be fun when people start falling over. >> reporter: farther inland, the storm created trouble on the freeways. several vehicles collided on
5:07 am
interstate 280 in south san francisco. no apparent injuries but the collision caused quite a backup. farther down the peninsula, it was backed up debris that brought out crews to east palo alto. the fast flowing san francisco creek is bringing logs and branches downstream. this heavy equipment has been operating all day, removing the debris one pile at a time. >> put some racks to keep the debris from getting stuck underneath the bridge, so every time it rains, we got to be out here cleaning the racks. and that was lilian kim reporting. check this out. a viewer tweeted this photo from mt. hamilton road near san jose. a huge chunk of pavement is just gone. we found this photo because she used #abc7now and we are always checking social for your photos and video. so make sure to use that hashtag and you may see them right here on air. in oakland, one person died after their car caught fire last night. you can see the scene around 10:30. firefighters tried pulling the
