good morning, and thanks for joining us on this saturday, february 25. i'm matt keller in for chris nguyen. let's start with quick look at the weather forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning to you. did the rainfall wake you up? yes, we've had a little bit of shower activity, and you're looking at it right now on live doppler 7, so if you check it out, you can see on the peninsula there down towards pes ka dero and half moon bay, some scattered showers, it's worked its way down from the north and it continues to develop offshore, some of it anyway. it's all coming from the north, though, and there are two weak weather systems that will visit us this weekend, keeping this cool air in place. it is 36 in livermore as well as santa rosa, 40 in mountain view, 42 in san mateo, and would you believe it's warmer than it was

24 hours ago. it doesn't feel like it, but it certainly is. notice 6:00 this morning, showers and the south bay, but the bulk of the activity stays offshore, this is a 1 on our storm impact scale. i'll time it out for you and talk about the shower activity that should last through monday before spring-like numbers arrive. matt? >> thank you, lisa. new this morning, this huge eucalyptus tree is blocking a pleasant hill roadway. the tree came crashing down around 12:15 this morning. chp says the tree is covering about 40 feet of the street and it's about 30 feet high. no word on any injuries or when the lanes will reopen. a 10-month-old is recovering this morning after the family dog attacked him in concord. the baby is being treated for btes to his head. officers say they had no choice but to shoot and kill the dog. abc7 news reporter katie utehs

has the story. >> reporter: concord police shot and killed a family dog that moments earlier attacked a 10-month-old boy. >> the dog was very aggressive, actually, took an aggressive stance towards our officer and that's why our officer discharged his firearm. >> reporter: an officer ran inside to get the baby. >> when the officer pulled him out, quite the emotional scene, having to wrap his head. >> reporter: the boy underwent surgery at oakland children's hospital after suffering bites to the head. he's expected to be okay. but his 7-year-old brother is struggling after witnessing the traumatic attack. >> the 7-year-old started screaming, which caught mom's attention. mom came in there, was able to pull the child away and prevent any further attack. and that probably saved his life. >> reporter: the german shepherd mastinn mix named charlie was 80 pounds. the mother stepped out of the room for a moment. >> talking @mom, it sounds like

the dog never showed any signs of aggression in the past. >> reporter: neighbors tell abc7 the dog was aggressive, one neighbor saying it attacked her dog a few years ago. contra costa animal services is investigating. in the east bay, katie utehs, abc7 news. we first toldout about this story last night with the push alert from the abc7 news app. download the app for free and enable push alerts to get breaking news updates as it happens. abc7 news was at the south bay mobile home park in san jose as more people returned home for the first time. following this week's devastating flooding. and as if these people didn't have enough to worry about, now we've learned some of them have become crime victims. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo has the details. >> reporter: the flood water has receded from the south bay mobile home park. now the focus is getting hot water. >> i had to buy a hot plate from fry's for 20 bucks and using the microwave and heating up water. >> reporter: bonnie is the assistant manager. she and her husband have been

without gas for three days and very cold nights. >> it's been hard on him without having the heat. when you're 70-something, you need your heat. >> reporter: now they're among the lucky ones. their gas is back on. park utilities is going door to door, relighting pilot rights. >> the great thing about it is that people always smile when you knock on the door and say they're going to have hot water. >> reporter: because of the utility situation, city officials have not completely lifted the evacuation order but park management is encouraging people to return. >> we've had three break ins, unfortunately, so we've told them if they can, try to come back home. >> reporter: people continue to toss out their water logged and contaminated belongings. these are hard times for flood victims. janet chields knows. she had to evacuate her mobile home tuesday and she's an expert in traumatic stress. >> do one task at a time that you can accomplish because that puts you from out of control to in control. the other thing that really helps is being in community. so don't try to go it alone. >> reporter: these flood ravaged

communities have certainly come together. in san jose, katie marzullo, abc7 news. san jose is opening local assistance center at the shirakawa community center. it's going to be a one-stop shop for evacuees hoping to get bok on their feet. advocates, insurance providers and emergency agencies will be on hand. the city of san jose is trying to figure out how much damage there is in order to get state and federal disaster relief funding. yesterday, city workers had dumpsters set up to help people get rid of furniture, piles of clothes and anything else damaged in this week's flood. >> it's a god send. they're well organized and it's really a god send. >> the city says it will have dumpsters in all three of the areas inundated by flood waters. our "7 on your side" team sent yesterday answering questions about super boconsume related to the flooding. michael finney was at james lick high school all afternoon talking to flood victims and

shifts to make up and nobody cares. that's what you do. you help each other out. >> neighbors said they just wanted to help his family with medical expenses. so far, they've raised about $3,500. the woman who claimed in a blog that uber encourages harassment says she's the target of a smear campaign. yesterday, susan fowler asked her twitter followers not to give out any personal information about her. the former engineer left uber in december claiming her manager made sexual advances that weren't investigated. uber says it's no no way involved in a smear campaign. abc7 news was at the castro theater in san francisco night night for the lesbians who tech event. the original goal was to attract more women and lesbians to the tech industry. this year's strategy is go to beyond technology and champion the fight for women's rights. one of last nights's speakers was a woman from los angeles who cofounded the black lives matter

movement. >> we believe black lives matter is a movement for every single person on the planet. y'all hear that? >> more than 2,000 people are expected to attend this year. lesbians who tech continues through tomorrow. well, the oscars are just one day away and while hollywood's biggest night is all about the awards it's also about the swag. abc7 news anchor kristen sze hung out in hollywood with the celebrities. >> reporter: lights, camera, glitz, glamour, so much awaits the a-list celebrity in hollywood but one of their favorite events is the swag party. this party in hollywood is one of many where celebrities can load up on lavish goods, real house wives of atlanta star candy burress is a happy attendee of this style lounge as is veteran sitcom actor richard kind. >> this is great. they're ridiculous. we show up and get things and that's ridiculous in this world. >> reporter: companies eager to

not. somehow a car, though, ended up inside the lobby of the east west bank on noriega street in san francisco's sunset district last night. looks like the driver went right through the frond window. no one was hurt. the alameda county sheriff's department has confirmed a body found along alameda creek in fremont is that of jayda jenkins. the 18-year-old from tracy had been missing for more than a month. january 21, her car went off niles canyon road and into the creek. rescue workers searched the creek for days but that search was hampered by storms. thursday night, a man walking his dogs found jenkins' body 11 miles from where her car crashed. >> her family, we have been in touch with them. they were relieved to know that we found jayda. they now can begin their closure, begin to start healing. and begin to try to make sense of this tragedy. >> sergeant kelly said there's nothing to indicate foul play. well, she's just one day old but a baby girl in the east bay has already taken her parents on

a wild ride. as abc7 news reporter elissa harrington tells us, the baby was born in the car outside the hospital. >> reporter: a special and fast delivery for kim gooden and dan stone of oakland. their baby girl amaro surprised everyone when she decided to make her arrival in the backseat of a car. >> it was sort of a mellow night at home, a slow kind of normal labor, and then within about a half an hour, it just -- it was mayhem. >> reporter: and by morning, things took off. they got into the car for the short drive to the hospital, but amaro would not wait. >> the head was already crowning when we got to the hospital. >> reporter: the family got as far as that driveway. that's the valet parking dropoff right in front of the hospital. a nurse who had just rafd for her shift heard screaming and jumped into action. she called for a code stork, an emergency announcement that lets the hospital know there's a baby being born outside. surveillance video shows the

crowd of hospital staff surrounding the car. that nurse has 32 years experience but thursday was the first time she delivered a baby on her own. >> i think i was kind of in denial that it was happening, and then i was just relieved that there were people there and i felt very safe and like everyone had it under control. >> reporter: mom, dad, and baby are all doing well. and although it was chaotic, it's a story they look forward to sharing with their little girl when she's older. elissa harrington, abc7 news. despite heavy use during the commute hours, b.a.r.t.'s overall ridership is down and now the agency says it's facing a 15 to $25 million deficit. after six straight years of growth, b.a.r.t. says it's losing revenue. the agency says the number of people riding b.a.r.t. has slumped. requiredership is down 4% during the weekdays and down a whopping 9% on the weekends. b.a.r.t. officials say they don't know why. >> it might be because we're

doing more track work and there's delays. >> it's already fairly expensive. i think enough people ride it to where they could run it even earlier. i don't really understand. >> b.a.r.t. says it's already putting a hiring freeze in place. now there's talk of raising fares and cutting service. governor brown says $430 million is needed to fix dams and levees up and down california. in a rare news conference, the governor pointed at the recent issues with the oroville dam as one example. heavy rains caused a hole to form and then the auxiliary swillway also began to fail. brown says the money will address just one of many state priority pfz affordable housing, child care, many, many issues. so it's just that in a government as big as this, not everything will be taken care of always and luky for you, because you wouldn't have a damn thing to do if we didn't have these kind of problems. >> most of the $430 million will come from a $7.5 billion water bond approved by voters in 2014. well there's so much snow

around lake tahoe, some communities have nowhere to put it. nikki mayors posted this picture from instagram. the county supervisor says he's never seen anything like that before. crews are working 16-hour shifts for days on end. work on the side streets starts next week. looks like skiers and snow boarders will be able to hit the slopes during the summer. squaw valley al pine meadows says it plans to stay open until july 4. more than 40 feet of snow has fallen in areas. kirkwood, northstar and heavenly ski resorts also plan to extend their ski season thanks to impressive snowfall this winter. here in the bay area, doctors are seeing an increase in those who suffer from allergies. those blossoms are beautiful but not so much if you're running for the kleenex. one aler gist says it's not these flowering trees. it's juniper and elder berry right now and he says, quote, we

ain't seen nothing yet and all that rain will bring out the ragweed and grasses which will really make that pollen count rise. hi there, everyone chblt good saturday morning. we are looking at live doppler 7 with a few showers here right along the peninsula, the san mateo coast and also heading into santa cruz as these showers will quickly move through but you know what, there are more behind them. they will be widely scattered and most of the activity will stay off the coast but a couple systems will drop down from the north, they're cold, they don't hold a lot of moisture but they will bring down the elevation, the snow level, down in the bay area to about 2500 feet. d we do have a winter weather viesry for the sierra nevada, and this starts tomorrow morning and goes until monday morning. 4 to 6 inches over the passes with some travel difficulties for sure and chain controls are likely so looking at the cool numbers once again but not as cold as it has been.

37 in black hawk, 39 in lafayette, and closer to the bay, a little milder, 45 for you at oakland, san francisco, and in mountain view, it's 40 degrees so we've got the cloud cover but we have these cold systems that you can keep the temperatures pretty chilly right on through monday so some cold showers this weekend, snow level down to 2500 feet and we're looking at sunny and milder days beginning tuesday. we're talking well into the 60s. in fact, upper 60s. so, highs today with most of the activity offshore will be in the 50s but we are looking at a few showers from time to time. today will be the cloudier, the wetter day until we get into late tomorrow so it's a 1 on our storm impact scale for today. tomorrow, and into monday, we're going to see spotty light showers, rainfall amounts up to about 1/3 of an inch around mt. diablo, mt. hamilton, certainly could see some snow out there. so, as we go for the next several hours, you'll notice, 8:00, we've got some spotty showers and here we are all the

way to about 9:00 and the activity sinks to the south of us. that's the first system waking up on sunday to some sunshine, increasing clouds but by about 5:00 in the afternoon, once again, look at lake county. looking at low snow levels and here comes the next wave of rain and this takes us through sunday evening into your monday morning commute. we've got scattered showers from san francisco to oakland over into san jose and they will be light but if you add up the three days, we are looking at a couple hundredths to 1/10 to 2/10 of an inch. so certainly not done with the wet activity yet and overnight tonight, a little break in the action and we'll see those numbers once again dip to near freezing around cloverdale and santa rosa. the accuweather 7 day forecast, 1 on our storm impact scale. with some cold showers today, the evening rain tomorrow, and then into your monday morning, you can always download our abc7 news app and get the -- get up to date pictures and radar views of where and when this rain is moving through, but then look at that, matt.

this morning, a southern california snow boarder is recovering after getting lost at heavenly and spending the night alone in frigid conditions. this is the moment a chp rescue team spotted 32-year-old aaron yu early wednesday morning. los angeles resident says he was heading down a run with friends in near blizzard conditions late tuesday when he accidentally veered out of bounds, found himself in chest deep snow. >> it was scary. i think it was probably when the longest, coldest and darkest nights of my life. i have an incredible amount of respect for all the people who were involved in this effort and i'm so grateful to them. >> he suffered frostbite on two of his fingers. rescue teams say there's been an uptick in calls because of all the snow. they urge people to avoid steep avalanche-prone videos. bumblebees playing soccer.

researchers in london trained bees to roll a ball into a goal by rewarding them with sugar water. some bees were able to do it without any demonstration. other bees watched their companions do it and then figured out quicker ways to move the ball. researchers said this could help bees in the wild as they face widespread population declines. playing with marbles during recess gave students in san francisco a jump start on physics. students at roosevelt middle school built roller coasters out of foam tubes and tape. yesterday's event was part of engineering week. making a roller coaster was a trial and error process but a few students were able to roll their marbles through loops, twists and turns. the pittsburg police department sent out a message yesterday from one of its officers. it's really an invitation from the sergeant. that's her eating a sandwich. the message reads, in part, this is how i eat most of my work meals, alone. she says, it can get lonely eating alone.

and we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. hi, lisa. good morning to you, matt. we are not done with the rain shower activity. in fact, we have cold showers in the forecast for the next several days and as we look at live doppler 7, right now some of them offshore, a few of them in between half moon bay, pescadero, highway 1 and points south heading into the santa cruz mountains. so there's not much out there. most of the activity will remain

offshore but to the nor tth, yo see more green, that will allow for the cool nature of the showers. it is 40 around mt. diablo, 39 in pleasant hill, mid 40s in san francisco and oakland, 46 livermore and santa rosa. so with the cloud cover, we're a little bit milder this morning, but we will look for a few scattered showers throughout the morning hours. you'll see that right on through about noontime, they're here, they're there, they're a bit hit and miss, and you're not going to see a lot of them, but we have a second system coming in tomorrow night and that could tick up the rain totals. i'll have an extended outlook which includes sunshine and an hour-by-hour planner in just a few minute. thank you, lisa. today, san jose mayor sam lacardo is hosting a neighborhood clean-up along coyote creek after this week's flooding. volunteers are needed to help clean up after the floods. if you can help shovel mud, meet up. the city will provide gloves and

trash bags to anyone who comes to help. the impact of floods on people's lives is staggering and it's hard to really understand if you're not dealing with it personally. wayne freedman has more. >> reporter: behind the cones, the closures and the police on post-storm watch, rock springs in san jose is a wasteland now, a neighborhood with white picket fences in front of mud caked plants on muddy streets filled with mud-caked cars drying in sunshine that came a few days too late. this has become a neighborhood of vacuum trucks sucking up water and muck and residents moving around wearing garbage bags instead of proper rubber boots how long does a pair of those things last? >> i can feel already, just like water inside already. >> reporter: if we were to add up the pressing issues in calvin's life right now, muddy feet would not even register. in the automobile business, they call this a happy tag attached to every new car. calvin had yet to make his first monthly payment. >> now what?

will walk to call attention to the case. 15-year-old disappeared near her home in may of last year. she was last seen on the overpass. her suspected kidnapper died in a shootout with police in santa barbara county just one day after she went missing. police are offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can provide today's walk starts at 3:00 on that overpass. the white house is admitting it tried to get the fbi to denounce reports linking the trump campaign to russian intelligence. yesterday the president called out the reports and its sources at the republican convention, cpac. abc news chief white house correspondent jonathan carl has more. >> reporter: president trump basked in the glow of a friendly crowd. >> i love this place. love you people. >> reporter: then he slammed his own top law enforcement agency for failing to stop what he called illegal leaks. they can't even find the leakers

within the fbi itself, the president tweeted. classified information is being given to media that could have a devastating effect on u.s. find now. president is especially outraged at a "new york times" story quoting unnamed u.s. officials alleging repeated contacts between the trump campaign and russian intelligence. over the weekend, chief of staff reince priebus said the story was nonsense. >> i know what they were told by the fbi, because i've talked to the fbi. i know what they're saying. >> reporter: now the president is furious about new reports priebus pressured the fbi to such pressure could violate long-standing policy prohibiting white house interference in ongoing investigations. >> i'm against the people that make up stories and make up sources. they shouldn't be allowed to use sources unless they use somebody's name. >> reporter: but ironically, the white house itself organized a briefing for reporters on the

story and insisted that officials be quoted anonymously. one top white house official at the briefing who insisted his name not be used said there was no pressure on the fbi. in fact, the official said fbi director james comey dismissed "the new york times" report into the russian connection as, quote, total garbage. director comey was at the white house just last month, praised by the president. >> he's become more famous than me. >> reporter: but when chief of staff priebus asked comey if the fbi would publicly dispute "the new york times" story, the fbi director said he could not do that. none of this seemed to matter to the crowd at cpac, the largest annual gathering of conservative activists in the country. trump skipped it last year. this year, a triumphant return. how is this cpac different? >> just the buzz and excitement and we're winning. we're in the white house. i mean, it's just exciting.

>> reporter: the core conviction of our movement is that we are a nation that put and will put its own citizens first. >> reporter: abc7 news washington. some of the largest news organizations in the country were blocked from attending a news briefing at the white house yesterday. "the new york times," the "los angeles times," and cnn were all excluded. the white house said it wanted to give a smaller briefing because the president was giving a major speech at the time. a new homeland security report says people seeking asylum from the seven countries listed under president trump's travel ban do not pose a significant terrorism threat. the report was prepared in response to a white house request. the white house dismissed the report as politically motivated and poorly researched. mr. trump is expected to issue a new executive order next week.

federal courts blocked his first attempt to temporarily halt immigration and prevent refugees from entering the u.s. president trump's rival in the november election is rallying democrats. hillary clinton is out with a new video message tweeted today by the democratic party. >> nearly 66 million votes are fuelling grassroots energy and activism. and everywhere, people are marching, protesting, tweeting, speaking out, and working for an america that's hopeful, inclusive, and big hearted. >> the full video will be shown during today's dnc convention in atlanta. tomorrow's hollywood's biggest night and comedian jimmy kimmel is hosting the show for the first time. abc news reporter linda lopez talked with him about what to expect tomorrow. >> reporter: is jimmy kim nervous about following in the footsteps of some of comedy's greats to host the 89th academy awards? >> starting with, like, bob hope and billy crystal, ellen
