good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. this is "abc 7 mornings." thanks for joining us on this saturday, february 25th. i'm matt keller in for chris nguyen. here's meteorologist lisa argen with your forecast. >> good morning to you, matt. you can see we had a few showers earlier from the peninsula, through santa cruz. these were also in marin county earlier. but now looking at sfo, it's nice out there. we'll see clouds, sun, even showers. just 33 in gilroy. how about 36 in santa cruz. not even 50 today with the cloud cover and even showers there. 36 by the delta, 41 in livermore. from the east bay hills camera, looks a little gray out there. your forecast calls for cloudy skies throughout much of the

afternoon. showers, more of them will move in towards the evening. this is the first system, there's three that will bring amounts anywhere from .10 to almost .4 right on through monday. i'll tell you where and when in just a few minutes. matt? >> thank you, lisa. this huge eucalyptus tree came crashing down around 12:15 this morning near taylor boulevard. chp said the tree is covering about 40 feet of the street and it's about 30 feet high. no report on any injuries or when the lanes will open. a family dogged attacked a boy in concord. the boy's father said the baby is being treated for bites to his head. the officers said they had no choice but to shoot and kill the dog. >> reporter: concord police shot and killed a family dog that moments earlier attacked a 10-month-old boy. >> the dog was very aggressive.

took an aggressive stance toward our officers, and that's why our officer discharged his firearm. when the officer pulled him out, quite emotional scene. having to wrap his head. >> reporter: the boy underwent surgery at oakland children's hospital after suffering bites to the head. he's expected to be okay. but his 7-year-old brother is struggling after witnessing the traumatic attack. >> the 7-year-old started screaming which caught mom's attention. mom was able to pull the child away. and prevent any further attack. and that probably saved his life. >> reporter: the german shepherd mass tiff mix named charlie was 80 pounds. the mother stepped out of the room for a moment before the attack happened. >> talking to the mom, it sounds like the dog never showed any signs of aggression before in the past. mom actually raised this from when he was a pup.

contra costa animal services is investigating. in the east bay, abc 7 news. we first told you about the story last night with a push alert from the abc 7 news app. download the app for free to get breaking news updates as it happens. abc 7 news was at the south bay mobile home park in san jose. more people returned home for the first time following this week's devastating flooding. as if they people didn't have enough to worry about, now we've learned some of them have become crime victims. >> reporter: the nood water has receded from the south bay mobile home park, now the focus is getting hot water. >> i had to buy a hot plate from fry's for 20 bucks. using the microwave and heating up water. >> reporter: bonnie is the assistant manager. she and her husband have been without gas for four days and three very cold nights. >> it's been really hard on him without having the heat and stuff. when you're 70-something, you need your heat. >> reporter: now they're among the lucky ones. their gas is back on.

park utilities is going door to door relighting pilot lights. >> the great thing about it is people always smile when you knock on the door and say they're going to have hot water. >> reporter: city officials have not completely lifted the evacuation order, but park management is encouraging people to return. >> we've had three break-ins unfortunately. at least check on your home. >> reporter: in other neighborhoods, people continue to toss out their waterlogged and contaminated belongings. janet childs had to evacuate her mobile home tuesday, and she's an expert in traumatic stress. >> do one task at a time that you can accomplish. because that puts you from out of control to in control. the other thing that really helps issinging in community. so don't try to go it alone. >> reporter: the flood ravaged communities have certainly come together. in san jose, katie marzullo, abc

7 news. a multi-agency one-stop shop for evacuees hoping to get back on their feet. advocates, insurance providers and emergency experts from the state will all be hand. the center will be open from 9:00 to 4:00 this evening and 8:00 to 6:00 on weekdays. san jose is trying to figure out how much damage there is to get relief funding. yesterday city workers had dumpsters set up to help people get rid of furniture, piles of clothes and anything else damaged in this week's flood. >> it's a god send. they're well organized. it's really a god send. >> the city says it will have dumpsters in all three areas inundated by floodwaters. our team answered questions about consumer issues related to the flooding. james finney was getting answers from experts. topics included help with pets and avoiding scammers. ask your consumer questions on social media anytime using the

#ask finney. there are many ways to help the flood victims. just text the word red cross to 90999. red cross also needs volunteers. find out how to help and go to our abc 7 news app or abc7news.com. neighbors have raised thousands of dollars for a pizza chef attacked near his restaurant. abc 7 news was at bambino's restaurant last night. the media partners reported last sunday night johnny went out to his car from the restaurant to find his car broken into. three people jumped and robbed him. they fractured bones in his forehead causing him to suffer a seizure. he's now on medical leave recovering. >> everybody pulled together. everybody's working extra shifts to make up. nobody cares. that's what we do. that's what you do. you help each other out. >> a neighbor said they just want to help his family with medical expenses. so far they've raised about $3,500. the woman who claimed in a

blog that uber encourages harassment said she's now a target of a smear campaign. she asked her twitter followers not to give out any personal information about her. she left uber in december saying her manager made sexual advances that were not investigated. uber called that type of behavior wrong. abc 7 news was at the castro theater in san francisco last night for the lesbians to tech event. the goal four years ago was to attract more women and lesbians to the tech industry. this year's strategy is so champion the fight for women's rights. a woman from los angeles co-founded the black lives matter movement. >> we believe black lives matter is a movement for every single person on the planet. it's a global struggle, wherever there is black people, there's a time to fight back. you all hear that? >> more than 2,000 people are expected to attend this year. lesbians to tech continues through tomorrow. the oscars are one day away,

good morning. a live look in santa cruz. chance of scattered showers today. drive-through bank this is not. somehow a car ended up in the lobby on east west bank in san francisco's sunset district last night. looks like the driver went right through the front window. no one was hurt. the alameda county sheriff's department has confirmed a body found along alameda creek in fremont is that of jenkins. she had been missing for more than a month. rescue workers searched for days. that search was hampered by storms. thursday night a man walking his dog found jenkins' body 11 miles

from where her car crashed. >> her family, we have been in touch with them. they were relieved to know that we found jada. they can now begin their closure, begin to start healing. and begin to try to make sense of this tragedy. >> sergeant kelly said there's nothing to indicate foul play. she's just one day old but a baby girl in the east bay has already taken her parents on a wild ride. elisa harrington tells us the baby was born in the car outside the hospital. >> reporter: a special and fast delivery for kim gooden and dan stoke of oakland. they surprised everyone when she decided to make her arrival in the back seat of a car. >> a mellow night at home. a slow kind of normal labor. and then within about a half an hour, it just -- it was mayhem. >> reporter: by morning, things took off. they got into the car for the short drive to the hospital, but

amara would not wait. >> the head was already crowning when we got to the hospital. >> reporter: the family got as far as that driveway. that's the valet parking drop-off in front of the hospital. a nurse who had just arrived for her shift heard screaming, and jumped into action. she called for a code stork, an emergency announcement that lets the hospital know there's a baby being born outside. surveillance video shows the crowd of hospital staff surrounding the car. that nurse has 32 years experience, but thursday was the first time she delivered a baby on her own. >> i think i was kind of in denial that it was happening. and that i was just relieved that there were people there, and i felt very safe. like everyone had it under control. >> reporter: mom, dad and baby are all doing well. and although it was chaotic, it's a story they look forward to sharing with their little girl when she's older. elissa harrington, abc 7 news.

b.a.r.t.'s overall ridership is down. they're facing a 15 to $250 milli -- $25 million deficit. the agency said the number of people riding b.a.r.t. has slumped. ridership is down 4% during the weekdays and a whopping 9% on weekends. they don't exactly know why. >> it might be because we're doing more track work on the weekends and there's delays. maybe lyft and uber has something to do with it. >> i think enough people ride it they could run it even earlier. i don't really understand. >> b.a.r.t. says it's already putting a hiring freeze in place. there's talk of raising fares and cutting service. governor brown said $430 million is needed to fix dams and levees up and down california. in a rare news conference, the governor pointed at the recent issues of the oroville dam as an example. brown said the money will address just one of many state

priorities. >> affordable housing, child care, many, many issues. so it's just that in a government as big as this, not everything will be taken care of always. lucky for you, because you wouldn't have a damn thing to do if we didn't have these kind of problems. >> most of the $430 million will come from a $7.5 billion water bond approved by voters in 2014. there's so much snow around lake tahoe, some communities have nowhere to put it. this picture was posted from incline village on instagram. the snow is towering above her. the road supervisor said he's never seen anything like this before. crews are working 16-hour shifts for days on end to clear the main roads and chip it out of the area. work on the side streets starts next week. looks like skiers and snowboarders will be able to hit the slopes during the summer. squaw valley alpine meadow plans to stay open until july 4th. more than 47 feet of snow has

week's flooding. volunteers are needed today to help clean up after the flood. the city will provide gloves, tools and trash bags to anyone who comes down to help. the impact of the floods on people's lives is staggering. hard to really understand if you're not dealing with it personally. abc 7 news reporter wayne friedman has more. >> reporter: behind the cones, the closures, and the police on push storm watch, rock springs in san jose is a wasteland now. a neighborhood with white picket fences in front of mud-caked plants on muddy streets filled with mud-caked cars drying in sunshine that came a few days too late. this has become a neighborhood of vacuum trucks sucking up water and muck. and residents moving around wearing garbage bags instead of proper rubber boots. >> how long does a pair of those last? >> i can already feel the water inside already. >> reporter: if we were to add up the impression of calvin's life right now, in the

automobile business they call this a happy tag attached to every new car. calvin had yet to make his first monthly payment. now what? >> i don't know. >> what has your insurance company told you? >> i'm still waiting. >> reporter: residents say they waited for a call that never came before this neighborhood became a temporary part of coyote creek. >> this is our house where we used to live. >> reporter: this apartment looks more like a river bottom. there was no warning, he told us. >> did you think this would happen? >> no. >> did you know you were living in a flood zone? >> no. >> reporter: aside from the contents of those garbage bags, next to nothing is all carlos has left. he's starting a new life he told us, at age 32. along nordale avenue in san jose, wayne friedman, abc 7. more than a half million dollars has been donated to a relief fund for flood victims. the san jose sharks chipped in $20,000.

if you'd like to donate, find a link to the fund's web page at abc7news.com. happening today, friends and family of a va le to teen who went missing nine months ago will walk to call attention to the case. 15-year-old pearl disappeared near her home in may of last year. she was last seen on the overpass above highway 780. her suspected kidnapper died in a shootout with police one day after she went missing. police are offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can provide a tip leading to an arrest. today's walk starts at 3:00 on that overpass. the white house is admitting it tried to get the fbi to denounce reports of trump campaign to russian intelligence. the president called out the reports and its sources at the republican convention, cpac. abc news reporter david curly has more. >> reporter: facing stories and investigations about alleged ties to russia, this morning president trump and his white house are again targeting journalists. >> i call it the fake news, the

enemy of the people. and they are. they are the enemy of the people. because they have no sources, they just make them up. >> reporter: the president apparently talking about a "new york times" story saying his campaign had numerous contacts with russian intelligence. >> i'm against the people that make up stories and make up sources. they shouldn't be allowed to use sources unless they use somebody's name. >> reporter: a white house source ironically requiring anonymity said the chief of staff was told by an fbi official that the story was not true. but when reince priebus asked the fbi to say so publicly, the bureau declined. the president said the fbi is totally unable to stop the national security leakers. they can't even find the leakers within the fbi itself. this morning a "washington post" report saying the trump administration reportedly tried to enlist other politicians to

quiet the russian stories. the president set aside that controversy to bask in the bright lights of cpac. >> the core conviction of our movement is that we are a nation that put and will put its own citizens first. >> reporter: but more conflict hours later. after the president signs an executive order to study reducing regulation, the press secretary held an off-camera briefing in his office but left some major news outlets out. cecilia vega asked sean spicer about. >> there's 3,000 people that are credentialed to come in here. there's actually -- no, actually that is false. to say that there are six, maybe six that we reached out to you. >> reporter: david curly, abc news. tomorrow is hollywood's biggest night.

temperatures are chilly, mid-30s to mid-40s from san francisco to oakland. we'll be lucky to hit 50 down in santa cruz today. from the exploratorium camera, you can see the upper 30s. 41 for livermore. because of the cloud cover overnight, it's a little warmer now, but it will be offset by the cool air mass today. a little foggy out there, this will be the order of the day today. the weekend will not be a washout. the showers coming in. looks like the late afternoon and evening hours each day. looking for a little bit of bursts of rain tonight. with the snow levels down to 2,500 feet. and then another wave moving through sunday night into monday. but tuesday, we're sunny, we're warmer, right on through, it looks like next weekend. mid-50s today with scattered light spotty showers. cool afternoon. look at lake port, you can see the low snow levels there, mixed precip. we bring in the storm impact scale where a 1 today will rate
