. . . . . . good morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm diane macedo. here are some of the top headlines this morning on "world news now." breaking news overnight. north korea fired four banned ballistic missiles toward the sea of japan. triggering an angry response from the japanese prime minister calling a an extremely dangerous action. we'll have the latest details ahead. james comey is challenging president trump's claim that he was wiretapped by president obama. sources say comey wants the justice department to publicly reject the allegation. but the president insists congress needs to look into this. and the trump administration is issuing a revised travel ban today. iraq has been removed from the list of countries targeted by the ban. the new executive order makes changes to restrictions on refugee and visa holders. the defense department

launching an investigation that some marines distributed nude photos of female colleagues on a secret facebook page that reportedly has nearly 30,000 members. those are some of the top stories we're following on this monday. from abc news, this is "world news now." good morning. we begin this half hour with the breaking news out of north korea. and another provocative show of force. >> the state fired four banned intermediate banned ballistic missiles toward the sea of japan traveling some 620 miles. three of the missiles landed directly into japan's economic zone 200 nautical miles from the coastline. >> the japanese prime minister shinzo abe called the launch a clear violation of u.n. security council resolutions. they say it was likely in response to joint military

exercises between south korea and the united states. >> this is north korea's second missile launch since president trump took office. it's not the intercontinental ballistic missile launch that kim jong-un warned is coming. it's part of north korea's attempt to test while president trump's policy is heading. >> you can expect the united nations will meet today or tomorrow about this and perhaps mention some more sanctions against north korea. that's the provocative move overnight by pyongyang. and now to president trump's latest twitter storm. fbi director james comey is now refuting the president's claim that president obama wiretapped him. >> president trump is calling for an investigation without offering any evidence, but sources say comey wants the justice department to publicly dismiss the allegation. abc's richard cantu with more. >> reporter: a senior justice department official tells abc news that the fbi director james comey has asked the justice department for a public statement rejecting president

oversaw as dni, there was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president-elect at the time either as a candidate or against his campaign. >> reporter: adding during his tenure he saw no evidence of collusion between the trump campaign and russian officials. >> we had no evidence of such collusion. >> welcome news for team trump but now overshadowed by the tweets. rechd richard cantu, abc news, new york. attorney general jeff sessions is planning to the amend his testimony before the senate judiciary committee in writing today. sessions is responding to questions raised by democratic lawmakers following a revelation that he met twice with the russian ambassador to the u.s. during the campaign. he's expected to explain why he failed to disclose that during his confirmation hearing. a washington state man who is a member of the indiana sick community in that state is home after he was shot in his driveway in what appears to be a hate crime. members of dozens of groups turned out to show their support for the sikhs in their community. what appears to be latest hate

crimes nationwide has them worried. >> some comments were made to the effect of get out of our country, go back to where you're from. and our victim was then shot. >> the fbi is assisting the local police in the investigation. the victim is a u.s. citizen born in india. and india's foreign minister expressing dismay about this attack. iraqis are speaking out about chemical weapons. a red cross person says people have been hospitalized with injuries consistent with chemical weapons. nine women and children. the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons is asking iraqi authorities for more information. and video out of panama of a bus crash that killed 18 people and injured about a dozen more. no word on what caused the bus to careen into a ravine. officials say all the dead and injured were adult males on the bus carrying more than 50 farm workers. facebook is labeling some news items on the site as disputed news.

the tag went live quietly over the weekend. the social network promised it would do something about the epidemic of fake news. disputed news items will be visible but with the tag and links to fact checking sites that explain why it's not true. however, it could take several days before a story is so labeled as disputed news. this is an effort that abc news is a part of as well. a texas a&m star is making it clear he's an nfl top prospect. the defensive end myles garrett. the 270 pounder ran a 40 yard dash in 4.6 seconds. faster than some quarterbacks. don't be surprised if former university of washington john ross gets misty if he hears the classic run dmc song. adidas promised to give an nfl prospect an island worth $1 million if they broke the record for the 40-yard dash which was

this morning we are hearing a heart breaking story from two families fighting to raise one girl. >> the adoptive family and the biological father, they are locked in a legal battle. we're up all night line. >> i want to go pet him. >> okay. let's go pet him. >> braillen is like most 3-year-olds. she's filled with curiosity, and attached to her parents. but she has no idea about the giant legal battle swirling around her. >> it breaks our heart. braillen is the one at the middle that's -- >> that's a cool one. >> reporter: braillen is adopted. just a few days ago her parents were told they could be forced to give their baby girl to andrew meyers, her biological father. he told cbs news that braillen belongs with him. >> i really think it's time to came home to her real family. >> reporter: this little girl is

now caught in the middle in a case that could help spell out what happens to other families in this same situation. >> say hi. >> reporter: ed and tammy first welcomed braillen into their lives in 2013 when she was a newborn. >> brought her to our house. a beautiful bundle of baby. >> reporter: she was born in south carolina with cocaine in her little body. they became her foster parents? >> we thought at the beginning we were working a foster care plan to help a mother get her child back. >> reporter: but then her health issues became more serious. she needed a special helmet like this one, and as foster parents, they weren't allowed to make these kinds of medical decisions. her birth mother, erika was struggling with addiction and had to make a difficult choice. >> probably one of the hardest

choices i could imagine a mother making. and that's handing her daughter over to somebody else. >> reporter: to you? >> to us. but she knew that we loved her, and she knew that it was a good placement for her. so she made a sacrifice as a mother. >> reporter: in her new home with seven brothers and sisters, braillen and her south carolina family with clearly happy. >> say merry christmas. >> reporter: a year and a half later a letter came in the mail. braillen's birth father appealed their adoption saying only he is braillen's daddy, and the girl should be with him in virginia. andrew meyers was in prison when she was born. he says he turned himself over to authorities were what were nonviolent crimes in the hope that he could serve his time and start raising his daughter. we reached out to meyers and were directed to speak with his lawyer, nathan shelton. >> from the beginning mr. meyers had a plan that he should be unified with his child, and that the child should be moved to

virginia. >> reporter: he was released from a virginia prison in november. and now an appeals court is siding with him. >> i got my life together. there's no reason she shouldn't be able to come home to me. >> reporter: the dawsons believe what's good for braillen should matter most and say they have the means to provide her a beautiful life. they filed an appeal and lost. now they're taking their case to the state supreme court. >> we have no plans of stopping if it does not get corrected. >> reporter: you'll take it to the supreme court? >> it's going to take the united states supreme court to deny us. >> reporter: for nightline, in rock hill south carolina. >> meyers says it boils down to a decision in 2013 to end his parental rights. he wasn't playing child support. he wasn't married to the mother. he's saying that decision was wrong. >> it's a tough one there. you hope what's best for the young girl, but it's hard to decide. coming up, 2000 dogs and

there morning on "world news now," the head of the fbi rejects the president's wiretapping claim. and while many are still looking for truth, the head of the fbi is weighing in, asking the justice department to refute the notion of any wire tapping taking place. the white house now waiting for an explanation. full details, ahead. we have breaking news on a new act of aggression from north korea. the country has launched internationally banned missiles into the sea. and back here in this country, transformers activate. well, not quite. dangerous situation there on the roads in texas getting out of control, folding into itself. that tractor-trailer, while trying to move. not even optimus prime would like that move. >> no, i don't think so.

but the president is now asking for a congressional investigation. abc's brian ross with the latest. >> the actual source of the president's stunning claim, the fbi bugged trump tower on the orders of president obama remains a mystery. but late word that fbi director james comey has weighed in. the senior justice department told abc news comey has asked the justice department to publicly reject the president's statements as false. the only white house official to speak publicly appeared on the abc news program "this week" and tried to change the subject and call for an investigation but martha raddatz called her about the information from the source. >> let's press on to this. if this had is -- >> the president of the united states is accusing the former president of wiretapping him. >> i think that this is, again, something that if this happened, martha -- >> if, if, if, if.

federal court. the new immigration order removes iraq from a list of countries whose citizens will face a 90-day travel ban. there will be a temporary halt on all refugees, not just those from syria and current visa holders will not be affected. the house is expected to release new legislation this week, as well, to repeal and replace obamacare. there's still some disagreement over how to pay for it. among other things, some conservatives oppose tax credits that will help pay medical expenses for people not covered through their jobs or the government. breaking overnight, north korea has flexed its military muscles in a defiant show of power. japanese and south korean officials say the north has fired four banned ballistic missiles more than 600 miles into the sea of japan. the u.s. military does confirm the launch, but said it does not pose a threat to north america. this is the latest in a series of test launches by pyongyang

which many believe is developing an intercontinental ballistic missile that could eventually strike the u.s. 500 american special forces arrived in the northern city of mon by-ege this weekend. "the washington post" reports the pentagon is calling for more u.s. ground troops along with helicopters and weapons supplies. a u.n. humanitarian agency says the white house has replaced about 66,000 people in northern syria. iraqi citizens are trying to escape western mosul. many of them are women and children hoping to get away from the last isis strong hold. this morning, we're seeing new images of their struggle. >> they're pummeling isis positions in western mosul. u.s.-backed iraq troops stepping up the fight to retake the terror group's last strong hold in iraq. but isis is pushing back. they've controlled this city for
