this revised order will bolster the security of the united states and her allies. >> president donald trump makes good on a promise to sign a new travel ban. one that is just as controversial as his previous one. thank you for joining us i'm natasha zouves. >> and i'm kristen zse. the new immigration executive order will suspend immigration into the u.s. from six muslim majority nations. jessica castro is here with details and reaction from local muslim community members. >> the new order will go into effect march 16th. there are significant changes. groups like the aclu have said

this morning they will fight the order and continue to call it unconstitutional. >> the president signed a new version of his controversial travel ban. secretary of state rex tillerson called it a vital measure to strengthen national security. >> with this order, president trump is exercising his rightful authority to keep our people safe. >> reporter: the second version hopes to with stand any court challenges. it will still for bid new visas from six muslim majority countries. iran, syria, somalia, sedan and yemen and libya. iraq has been taken off the list. the new order also shuts down the u.s. refugee program for 120 days and then will be reimplemented with a cap on annual admissions. syria will not be treated differently. >> the new words are attempting to get around what the courts did but still a muslim ban in ore perspective.

>> and they say it emboldens those that are anti-muslim and there is fear in our backyards. >> in the day following the election we heard complains of muslim women that were targeted for head scarves and some who weren't muslim but were mistaken and targeted. with the travel ban, we had people who were stuck at san francisco international. they either got on the plane and couldn't get out of the airport or they couldn't even get on the plane so the fear is not something that is happening elsewhere, it is very real, even in the bay area. >> reporter: one more note, this new order does make it clear, legal permanent residents and current visa holders are not covered in the order. mean while the council on american/islamic nations plans to talk about its steps in about half an hour but they tell me they are already working with local attorneys and community partners to ensure muslim rights.

jessica castro, abc 7 news. >> thank you. the other big issue facing the trump white house this morning, the president's unsubstantiated claims that he was wiretapped by the obama administration. fbi director james comey has asked the justice department to publicly reject the claim that former president obama ordered wire taps on trump tour during the campaign. a white house spokesperson said she doesn't think the president accepts the fbi's reported denial and got into a heated debate this morning with "good morning america"'s george stephanopoulos. >> i think he firmly believes that this is a story line that has been reported pretty widely by quite a few outlets -- >> sarah, i have got to stop you right there. everything single article you just mentioned does not back up the president's claim that president obama had him wiretapped. >> the white house is calling for a congressional investigation. but the national security experts tell abc news the president could order intelligence agencies to give him answers and doesn't need an

investigation to get the information. new this morning, the supreme court is putting the decision on transgender bathrooms back in the hands of a lower court. it involves a transgender high school student in virginia. he was fighting against a school policy that denied him access to the boy's bathroom. the case was scheduled for arguments in late march. well now that decision is in limbo after the trump administration pulls back federal guidance that told schools to let students use bathrooms matching their gender identification. questions remain this morning about how berkeley police handled the clash of two protests for and against trump. >> somebody smashed me in the back of my head. >> officers arrested ten people and confiscated a dozen weapons after the protest. some complains police took a passive approach to the protest. a spokesperson for the department insists making those ten arrests is proof of the contrary. charges range from battery to assault with a deadly weapon. we've seen wild weather over

had a dusting of snow this weekend. including mt. hamilton. the visitor center at the observatory is closed after getting two inches of snow yesterday. caltrans has closed the road and the joseph d. grant county park. hail was the story for many parts of the bay area. this was the scene in woodside near king's mountain yesterday. could you see the back porch of a home covered in hail. san mateo county saw quite a bit yesterday. this was posted online by a viewer. and the weather comes with  dangers. a death of a woman is being blamed atos emmetty -- yosemite park. these photos are from a man staying a few tents over. rangers cleared the campground out after the accident. two areas are closed today because of the high winds. >> if you could track today's storm using the abc 7 news app, looking at showers and what

else, we have live doppler 7 available along with updates on weather where you live so when you download app enable push alerts. we are learning about a scary weekend with an electrical fire at the walnut creek b.a.r.t. station. it brought trains to a stop and trapped hundreds of passengers. it broke out inside of an electrical vault beneath the tracks. 300 passengers had only gone 30 feet before it happened and they were stranded an hour and a half. fire officials said there were small explosions and pops but the passengers were not in any real danger. futures who take the forry between tiburon and san francisco are taking over operations from the struggling fleet. amy hollyfield is live at the ferry building with details. >> reporter: about 300 people make the trip every day from tiburon here to san francisco on the ferry. they got here today smoothly.

the transition went well. and they are say they are relieved to know there is a ferry this evening to take them home. it is not every day passengers applaud when they see their ferry arrive. but when your old ferry didn't always show up to bring you home, you are pretty happy to have a new ride. >> particularly at night, when they would cancel and do it on -- on five minutes notice. we are lined up to get on the boat and they wouldn't show up and say by the way it has been canceled. >> what would you do? >> uber. >> reporter: the golden gate ferry took over the service from tibure an to san francisco. the blue and gold fleet was the carrier but the company said it was too expensive and threatened to reduce service. >> we've been waiting for months and months for resolution to this uncertainty and now we have reliable commute and it is just wonderful to see. >> reporter: it won't by a money-maker but the golden gate bridge district decided to take over for the greater good. >> this is in line with our mission to reduce congestion

fusion drove on top of the vehicle. the passerby captured the moment on his cell phone. upon seeing the accident the corvette owner suffered a heart issue, actually and had to be hospitalized. former oakland mayor quwan and her husband are getting backlash for trying to open a marijuana dispensary in the outer sunset. residents in the outer sunset are worried that a dispensary will bring crime into the neighborhood. if the city approves the license, it will open on 32nd and noriega. the former oakland mayor has been a long time advocate of medical marijuana. her husband who is a doctor has been priescribing the drug sinc 1996. a an arrest yesterday at sfo after miss handing money. he was returning from a vacation when he was taken into custody. he is accused of embezzlement,

misappropriation of public funds and grand theft. agents served a search warrant on his home and the stockton kids club that he used to oversee as ceo. he is being held in the jail on a million dollars bail. a new study from the better business bureau reveals the riskiest scams and who they are target. men are more vulnerable than women. and they find senior citizens are less vulnerable than millennials. they are three times more susceptible to scams than consumers over the age of 65. one of the most common scams is home improvement jobs. avoid cash only deals and high up front payments. bbb said never pay anyone in full before the job is done and finally watch out for handshake deals, always get it in writing. ask for a contract and for references. of course you hear our michael finney talking about some of those important tips. >> he is the best. chrissy teigen opening up about a secret battle.

some are taking advantage of the unusual weather and making their way to mt. diablo this morning all to see if they could spot some snow. abc 7 news reporter kate larsen is live on mt. diablo. so tell us, was it worth the

trip, kate? >> reporter: you know, the folks that i spoke to were very happy they came up this morning. i got to tell you, we brought the sun out just in time for our live shot. until a few minutes ago, this was a wall of white clouds. we were in the middle of a misty cloud and you could see the sun aout and the clouds are lifting and the beautiful valley be low. and that means the snow is starting to melt faster so the early birds caught the worm this morning. an unexpected snow ball fight with dad and dog, just a few mles from here. her day off from school has turned into a genuine snow day thanks a few inches of patchy snow near the top of mt. diablo. >> have you ever seen snow near your home before? >> no. the only place i've seen snow is tahoe. >> we are loving it. it is a great time. >> i've been hiking and i've never seen snow out here so i thought i would come out before work and check it out. >> the road is close to the

summit so they hiked up this morning and says the path got slippery but a few snowflakes were still falling. >> tried to take some special. it is pretty special. it doesn't happen often. >> reporter: so i've spoken to mike nicco and he confirms this is rather unusual. it only snows up here a few times a season. so this is one of those times. the snow is melting down here, the juniper camp ground area but if you hike up to the summit, you might get lucky. the parking lot is starting to fill up so come up quick. i'm kate larsen, abc 7 news. back to you. if you do hike up there, wear snow boots for the first time in years. your calves may hurt the next day. i'm just saying. here is a look from mt. tamalpais. and clouds are going to let go of their goodies in the form of light showers and light snow

above 2500 feet but as kate mentioned the sun is out and it will melt rapidly now. here is a look from emeryville and it looks quiet as we look back toward san francisco. so scattered showers in the forecast. moving up to the north bay as the storm track moves to the north during the evening and overnight hours and that will bring us milder weather for the rest of the week. we're going to spring forward this weekend. lose an hour of sleep. and there is a slight chance of a few showers. here is where most of the snow is right now. south of livermore and toward the east. we have a little bit trying to fall in the santa cruz mountains but it is getting too warm right now so you could see right there on the summit, it may be mixed in with sleet and snow. but most tv -- most of it is rain. and then scattered across the north bay. and big picture, the air coming straight down from alaska on that cold jet stream. but look at this warm air just lurking to the south ready to move in for the rest of the week. if you are heading out, still 48 in santa rosa. the rest of us in the low to

mid-50s and we'll warm a few more degrees. but not much. 53 to 57 this afternoon. and tonight it is going to be a little chilly out there. 38 in livermore. most of us around 40 to about 46 degrees. morgan hill, 37 one of the coolest spots. we keep the storm impact scale for today. scattered showers. and hail not that likely and damaging breezes not likely at all but snow is possible in the highest peaks. it is going to be gorgeous. and here we go, through the morning hours and into noon. a few showers in the higher elevations and they move on to the east and kindle fall apart and then we turn our attention to the north bay once the sun sets, a chance of scattered showers as far south as the golden gate bridge from 7:00 to 8:00. here we are at 7:00 tomorrow morning and you could see them moving up to lake and mendocino county. and then rainfall, look at how most falls in the mountains and not in the valley locations. now if you are heading to tahoe, we have a few snow showers this morning but pretty quiet until saturday and sunday. a few stray showers there, but
