and we do say good morning on this tuesday, everyone. we start with the breaking news and terrifying tornadoes tearing through the heartland. >> on the radar you can see a sharp line of storms running south from wisconsin to oklahoma with more tornadoes and damaging winds likely. already there are more than two dozen tornado reports and hundreds of severe weather reports. >> yeah, thousands of americans are without power this morning and hundreds of homes damaged. severe storms overnight lashing the heartland. new images coming in overnight of the devastation, the scene at johnson executive airport south of kansas city. hangars destroyed, planes flipped over on the runway. >> brian, tornado on the ground. tornado on the ground. >> reporter: a meteorologist with our kansas city affiliate spotting a twister on the ground east of the city. bright lights lighting under the night sky as high winds take out

power lines. >> i have power flashes. i'll take it as it is moving east. >> reporter: on the ground, utter destruction. golf ball size hail pelting the area. this rooftop landing in the middle of a road and this home surrounded by debris. the roof also ripped off. >> looks like it's roping out there. >> reporter: but it wasn't only missouri. a likely twister also spotted in minnesota. if confirmed it would be a record breaker. the earliest tornado ever to hit that state. and it's not over. more tornadoes and damaging windstorms are likely today. >> accuweather's paul williams is tracking the storms for us. paul, good morning. >> good morning, diane, kendis. we still have the same low pressure system that's going to bear more towards the northeast but before it does that, it will cause big-time problems and, quite frankly, havoc throughout both of the dakotas. going into minnesota as well as wisconsin, nebraska and into

omaha, we're expecting very windy conditions, winds accelerating between 40 and 60 miles per hour with or without an actual storm. kendis, diane. >> paul, thanks. president trump is making progress on two of his key campaign promises. >> yeah, things are very busy in washington. you have the travel ban and also republicans have released their long awaited plan to replace obamacare. here's abc's lana zak. >> reporter: after campaign promises to repeal and replace obamacare -- >> to immediately repeal and replace obamacare. >> reporter: -- republicans are unveiling their replacement plan which would immediately eliminate the individual mandate and begin pulling back subsidies as well as create tax credits to help americans buy insurance. >> the result would have the reduced federal spending under the bill is likely to mean more people uninsured. >> reporter: as expected democrats are opposing the plan. house minority leader nancy pelosi tweets the gop plan to

make america sick again will do massive damage to millions. but so are some republicans too calling it obamacare 2.0. earlier the white house unveiled their second travel ban taking iraq off the list of banned countries opening the door for people like translators who work with the u.s. government. >> this order is part of our ongoing efforts to eliminate vulnerabilities. [ chanting ] >> reporter: protesters gathered outside of the white house. >> guess what, president trump, your muslim ban 2.0 is still unconstitutional and still illegal. >> reporter: among the crowd new dnc chair tom perez who claimed the president's recent wiretapping allegations is just smoke and mirror. >> in order to deflect attention from the fact that jeff sessions should be fired because he lied under oath in a senate proceeding, you've created a diversion. that's one of the oldest tricks in the book. >> reporter: unlike the last travel ban that took place immediately, this one has until march 16th before administrators

have to start implementing it and it will cut in half the number of refugees admitted into this country and replaces that indefinite syrian refugee ban with a general one that lasts 120 days. kendis, diane. >> all right, that's abc's lana zak for us live in washington. lana, thanks. this other note, housing secretary ben carson under fire for comparing slavery to immigration. carson is the only black member of president trump's cabinet and he made the comments in his first speech to hud employees. >> there were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less but they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great grandsons, great granddaughters might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land. >> carson initially defended his comments but he later posted on facebook that the slave narrative and immigrant

narrative are two entirely different experiences and should never be intertwined. president trump is refusing to back away from a claim that president obama wiretapped his phones despite denials from former intelligence officials. the president has yet to offer any evidence for the claim but white house press secretary sean spicer says there's no question that something happened. intelligence officials insist president obama could not have ordered any wiretaps and say trump doesn't need a congressional investigation. he can simply ask the justice department. attorney general jeff sessions has officially clarified his testimony from his confirmation hearing. sessions defended his initial response in a three-page filing. he said he gave honest answers under oath, explaining he did not recall any discussions regarding the presidential campaign when he spoke twice with the russian ambassador to the united states. planned parenthood has turned down a proposal from president trump. the president offered to maintain the group's federal funding if it stops providing abortions. the president of planned

parenthood pointed out they're already not allowed to use federal funds for abortions. she said her organization will always stand for women's ability to make digs about their health and lives without interference from blisses. malaysia has come out accusing north korea of taking its people hostage. the country is now accused of banning malaysian citizens from leaving north korea. malaysia responded with a similar ban in an escalation of the dispute over the killing of north korean leader kim jong-un's half brother which happened at malaysia's main airport last month. and breaking this morning a stunning admission from north korea. just one day after the country's provocative test launch of four medium range ballistic missiles, north korean state news reported that it was practice for a strike on u.s. military bases in japan. three of the four missiles landed just off japan's border. this comes as the u.s. delivers its long delayed anti-missile

defense system to south korea. >> you have about 50,000 americans right there at those bases in japan. strong winds in the meantime. the western plains are fanning wildfires. in northeastern colorado hundreds of homeowners are now just waiting for a potential evacuation order. a fast-moving fire near the wyoming border has destroyed 30,000 acres and 3 homes and another along the kansas/oklahoma border has destroyed some farm buildings. several communities have been evacuated also. coming up, a major new finding about autism and who it may affect. and casey anthony speaking out about the day her daughter disappeared, as well as her life now years after that high-profile trial. plus, some serious questions are being raised about richard simmons. one of his former friends is now talking about why he hasn't be

>> anthony is currently living with a private detective who was the lead investigator on her defense team. she says she doesn't care what people think of her. caylee would have turned 12 years old this year. and this morning we have new information about autism. researchers have discovered some new genes related to the disorder. >> the genetic material was revealed in a study of autistic people and their relatives. doctors in canada found 18 new genes related to the condition. they've also discovered people with autism have dozens of gene mutations that may have caused their symptoms. the study is strengthening the idea that autism is a genetic condition. well, evel knievel would have probably liked this but authorities in california sure don't. take a look at this stunt motorcyclist. it happened just outside of los angeles. you can see the biker jumping over a four-lane active freeway. potential danger. authorities say the biker didn't -- this is so california -- he also didn't have a film permit. investigators have traced the
