know they got sir francis drake boulevard back open and that is great news. we thought it might be several days. they had a mudslide yesterday. but they said, nope, that is open for traffic this morning as of just a few minutes ago so good news there for marin county. we'll take a look at drive times next. new this morning, concerns about facebook's response to sexually explicit material, particularly as it involves images of children. >> a major news organization says its investigation shows facebook does not properly moderate images, even after it's told there's a problem. abc7 news reporter kate larsen is live in menlo park outside of facebook headquarters. >> reporter: so, natasha, reggie, the bbc says that they were actually trying to alert facebook to sexually exploitive content when facebook turned around and reported them, bbc journalists, to the police. so, this was all part of an investigative series into facebook's moderation system. the bbc says they used facebook's report tool to flag

more than 100 pornographic posts about children but according to the bbc, only 18 of 100 images were removed. so, the bbc asked a uk facebook executive for an interview who then requested that bbc provide examples of the content in question. the bbc says facebook then canceled the interview and reported the bbc to uk's national crime agency. facebook later provided a statement to the bbc and "business insider," saying they removed the illegal content and that "we take this matter extremely seriously and we continue to improve our reporting and take down measures. facebook has been recognized as one of the best platforms on the internet for child safety." now, facebook's rules also forbid convicted sex offenders from having their own accounts, but the bbc says they alerted facebook to five convicted pedophiles with facebook pages, and that facebook didn't remove them. that's the latest here live in

menlo park. strong reaction this morning to the plan by house republicans to replace the affordable care act. the gop bill would immediately eliminate the individual mandate. it repealed the obamacare penalties and subsidies over three years and create tax credits to help buy insurance. also, it would limit federal funding for medicaid. in alameda county alone, this would affect 100,000 people. california underwent a huge medicaid expansion under obamacare. >> they said whatever they replace obamacare with was going to be better. and this really makes it a lot worse for people in alameda county, california, to across the country. >> speaker of the house paul ryan says the bill will help drive down costs, encourage competition and expand access to care. however, house minority leader nancy pelosi says the plan will do massive damage to millions. a new cnn/orc survey out there morning shows a sharp divide when it comes to obamacare. 50% of those polls say they

oppose removing the requirement to obtain coverage. 48% are in favor. the main question surrounding president trump's new travel ban this morning, will it pass the legal test. president trump signed the order yesterday. this time, iraq is not one of the six nations targeted. anyone with a visa granted before january 27 can still travel to the u.s. as for refugees, the order will not prioritize them based on their religion. a allow professor at the university of texas says removing language that gives priority to religious minorities helps address concerns but with a focus on muslim majority countries, it still leaves the appearance that it is a muslim ban. civil rights groups say it's still discriminatory. >> the people who are impacted by this are members of our community. they're part of us. and so we can't just sit by and let this ban go forward. >> the state department, homeland security, and justice department officials defended the new order as a necessary measure to improve public safety. they said the countries implicated have some sort of

ties to terrorism. new this morning, san francisco mayor ed lee has occupied four new positions in the public defender's office to represent immigrants in danger of deportation. only a handful of other cities have the same program. these attorneys and paralegals are hired to start working april 1. the public defender's offense says having an attorney means a person is seven times more likely to have a successful outcome in deportation court. the board of supervisors hopes this year's budget can make these positions permanent. i have another update right now from the live desk of those north korean missiles that were fired towards japan. "washington post" writing this morning that north korea was indeed practicing to hit u.s. military bases in japan. we have this new video. i showed it to you earlier. it was released overnight. and according to the "washington post" at this hour, north korean media saying those missiles were launched by a special military unit that is expressly tasked with striking bases owned by the

u.s. but they didn't say sunday's launch was actually a strike. that's the caveat. japan, though, said this morning, they do have a plan in place. large intercepters are now stationed in the capital city of tokyo and the island of okinawa. new detail in the case against two suspects accused of shooting at an off duty oakland police officer last week. our media partner the "east bay times" reports both suspects have been charged with attempted murder. they appeared before an oakland judge yesterday. one is scheduled to return to court today. both accused of firing at that off duty cop last wednesday on interstate 880. the officer was not hurt. happening today, benicia city council will take altogether try figuring out what they want to do regarding the state's legalization of marijuana. in november, voters approved prop 64, which calls for recreational pot to be legal. benicia, like several communities, is weighing complex issues now, like health and safety, policing, and the impact on youth. council members do agree marijuana commerce could

starts shooting right out of the window.% now, the car next to him, there was a mom and her 9 and 5-year-old kids inside, completely innocent. police believe he wasn't targeting them. he was actually stargting a car that was parked across the street. a bullet piercesed the hood of the family's car, incredibly, they were not hurt. the suspect still on the loose this morning. >> that video is really dangerous. this is just really weird. florida police investigating a curious crime. suspects are tarring a house. surveillance tape captured the whole thing. the two male suspects drove to the house with the tar in their van, lugged the buckets to the doorstep, then began tossing it on the front door, the driveway, the front entrance. this happened in september but police have released the video because they need the public's help to identify the suspects. for the first time now, we are hearing from casey anthony, the florida mother acquitted of murdering her young daughter nearly nine years ago.

anthony has been living in the florida home of a private detective who was the lead investigator on her defense team. anthony has never taken responsibility for her daughter's death and she claims she was asleep when her daughter disappeared. cayly would be 12 years old this year. >> i'm still not certain about what happened. everyone else has their theories. i don't know. i don't get a [ bleep ] about what anybody thinks about me. i don't care about that. i never will. i'm okay with myself. i sleep pretty good at night. >> anthony says some day she would like to get a private investigator's license and work for a defense team. two people in santa clara county are recovering from possible e. coli infection linked to soy nut butter that has been recalled. the company is i am healthy soy nut better. the use by date of august 30 or 31 of 2018. 12 people in five states have gotten sick over this. four of them have developed a form of kidney disease.

people with e. coli often show symptoms three or four days after eating a tainted product. it can cause stomach cramps and diarrhea and can lead to serious health consequences for the very young and very old. san mateo county officials have announced they may impose a nighttime curfew to address complaints about noisy planes. airport neighbors they they are really being impacted. the county board of supervisors will consider noise abatement solutions. those could include restricting the number of takeoffs and landings of aircraft operating above a certain noise level. the raiders have a new source of financing to pay for a new stadium in las vegas. an nfl source told abc7 news bank of america has outlined a funding plan to the league stadium and finance committees. even if a move is approved later this month, the stadium is not expected to be built before 2020. the raiders have options to play at the coliseum for two more

these showers just like hours yesterday are moving from west to east so let's take a look at what's going to happen with these because every once in a while, they'll try to dip down. today, maybe even down towards cloverdale, the northern part of sonoma county and then it pushes right back up into the northern part of california. even up into oregon as we head through tomorrow. let's take a look at what it does for our temperatures. my accuweather 7 day forecast, some 70s inland tomorrow, more 70s around the bay for thursday and friday, but we stay right at 60 at the coast because of those breezes. we'll cool a little bit this weekend but low to upper 60s, still pretty nice for this time of year. we're just getting word from redwood city police that we have street closures on the peninsula so we'll zoom in here on our traffic maps. it's just off to the west of el camino real and north of jefferson, right next to mckinley middle school. we definitely have plenty of street surface closures. doesn't look like that has

answered right here on abc7 news mornings. the bus is made by the french company. here's the part that might shock you. it doesn't even have a steering wheel and it doesn't have brake pedals. cameras and lasers help navigate the bus and avoid people and other vehicles. it can go as fast as a normal bus but right now it's taking things at cable car speed, about 12 miles an hour. the bus seats a dozen people. company officials hope to have it regular for public use by the end of the year. volkswagen has unveiled sedric in switzerland yesterday. looks more like a ski resort cable car than something you see on the roads. it also has no steering wheel, no pedals, there will not be a driver. riders are going to sit across from each other inside. to freshen the air, they'll have air purifying plants. right now, sedric only a

there our happy clouds. pretty. it's a gorgeous sunrise, isn't it? absolutely, #abc7now if you capture it. it's cooler this morning, dress a little bit warmer. mid 30s to low 40s but by noon, already at our highs for yesterday, on our way to near 60 near the coast and back to low 50s around 7:00. traffic looking good this morning. in fact, i have more good news for marin county drivers. sir francis drake boulevard was closed yesterday between woodacre and fairfax. it was sounding like it could be several days before this was back open but about 15, 20 minutes ago, just got some information from marin county public works and they said it is open for this morning's commute. so quick work there and we do have fog in the north bay this morning but no major issues. we'll check on the tri-valley coming up next. fremont says it is tired of waze leading you on to side streets in search of a shortcut. >> this is the latest bay area city to push back and try to

beat traffic apps. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield live in fremont with the solution that is right on that sign. hey, amy. >> reporter: yeah, look at the sign. it says, you cannot turn right during certain hours. well, if you're cutting through this neighborhood here on via san dimas, you need to turn right up there. that's mission boulevard down there, which takes you back to interstate 680 but this sign says no right turns and don't trust your app. public works here in fremont is restricting some turns during rush hour because they want to make your detour unplaept. apps like waze are taking people off the freeway like interstate 680 and highway 84 and on to city side streets to avoid the congested freeways but that's clogging up the residential streets and upsetting the neighborhoods. even the police department is involved. >> our police department is enforcing these turn restrictions because the residents of fremont are asking for it.

they're really fed up with the traffic, cut-through photographtraffic in their neighborhoods, the amount of it, the speeds and the fact that people don't care about the streets they're on. >> the traffic reroutes, they say they appear to be working % here in fremont. the surface streets have opened up a bit. but city officials worry it's only a temporary solution, saying as long as the economy stays strong, they think traffic will continue to be bad and drivers will be looking for some relief, looking for a break right through the neighborhoods. live in fremont, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. well, happening today, state and federal officials will begin inspecting homes and properties hit by devastating flooding in san jose. today marks two weeks since the coyote creek overflowed its banks and swept through the bay area's biggest city. according to our media partner, "the mercury news," it caused at least $100 million in damage. today's inspections are the next step in the process to securing emergency aid. abc7 news went to the rock springs neighborhood to see how

the clean-up is going. some roads are still closed and some apartments are still off limits to renters. volunteers are needed, especially people who speak span irk ish or vietnamese. a relief fund for victims is now up to $6 million. residents are being told to register to receive money at the shirakawa community center. drone video is revealing the work underway right now to repair the main spillway at the oroville dam. this video shows crews working on the left as water spills down on the right side. crews are working to reinforce the concrete underneath the main spillway so more of it doesn't break away. the next step will be to fill in the gaping hole that opened up when this spillway started eroding last month. a lot of news coming out of washington that affects most of us. house republicans have finally unveiled their plan to repeal and replace the affordable care act. the plan would immediately eliminate the individual mandate, which requires people to get health insurance or face a penalty. over the next three years,

obamacare subsidies and taxes will then be repealed. the plan would also create tax credits to help americans buy insurance and limit federal funding for medicaid. as expected, democrats are opposing this plan. house minority leader nancy pelosi says the plan will do massive damage to millions. another big issue facing the trump administration this morning, the president's claims over illegal wiretaps. fbi director james comey will speak at a cyber security conference today. comey privately asked the justice department to dispute those wiretapping claims. there's been no response from the department. the new leader of the democratic national committee says the wiretapping allegations are just smoke and mirrors. >> in order to deflect attention from the fact that jeff sessions should be fired because he lied under oath and n a senate proceeding, you create a diversion. that's one of the oldest tricks in the book. and the other big story, of course, president trump signing that revised travel ban. this time, iraq is not one of

release on to our streets if the bill passes. happening today, alameda county will consider a resolution calling for president trump's impeachment. the resolution cites several reasons, including public statements highway h statemen statements he has made. the resolution is similar to one made by richmond last month. from richmond locally to richmond, missouri, i want to show you video from social media of those devastating storms and tornados. this is from facebook. a woman named samantha seeing damage in her neighborhood for the first time. she wrote she could actually feel the whole house shake when the storm came through. said she couldn't see anything for about 20 seconds, then it became clear as day. and a tornado on the ground in kansas city, missouri, captured on camera by meteorologist nick

bender. a large white funnel cloud in the center of the screen and in the video, you can hear him screaming, tornado on the ground, and that was the case in missouri, at least two tornados touched down in that particular area. nearly 30 overnight in the midwest. 15 people were hurt. let's go ahead and check in with mike and mike is it looking any better for those folks out there right now? >> yeah, the storm system is weakened quite a bit and it happens a lot of times as it moves out of the midwest and into the south, its loses a little bit of energy because it spent so much of creating those 30 reports of tornados and baseball size hail. severe thunderstorm for arkansas, louisiana, mississippi and parts of tennessee. a severe thunderstorm produces quarter size hail, 58-mile-per-hour winds and possibly a tornado but if a tornado was an issue, it would be more likely to be a tornado watch so straight line winds going to be the issue. over the next six hours, rain causing some issues in new england, in the mid atlantic, in the severe weather will march

twords nashville, birmingham and atlanta this afternoon. happening today, google's proposed new camepus in mountai view could be coming closer to reality. the city will discuss whether it will grant the tech giant permits and these are renderings that show what the charleston east campus would look like right next to the shore line amphitheater off highway 101. the building will have a canopy roof to allow natural light in and part of it will be open to the public. commuters in the north bay will find out in two weeks if they're going to be paying more for bus and ferry service. the board of the golden gate bridge district will meet march 24 to consider fare increases. the district faces a $51 million budget shortfall over the next five years. the proposed 4% increase would cost commuters another 25 to 50 cents a ride. if approved, that hike will take effect july 1, which is the same day the bridge toll goes up another quarter.

tonight, temperatures in the 40s. tri-valley, just a minor issue that's been there for at least a half hour now in the pleasanton area. that is southbound 680 just before you get to sunol boulevard. a collision is off on the shoulder. that's a pretty heavy area as it is so probably some of this, the normal delay and some of it a little bit of onlooker dlie delay as well. we'll take a look at drive times through a stretch. westbound 580, if you are coming from tracy to dublin, 45 minutes, southbound 680, that's through the crash scene there, 28 minutes for you, and northbound 85 between 101 and cupertino, you're looking okay, just slight delays there at 25 minutes and a live look outside, pretty shot here this morning, golden gate bridge, everything looking okay if you are coming from marin county. little bit of fog, though, if you are heading through the novato stretch. we'll see how the bay bridge commute looks coming up next. call this my favorite story of the day. this is a canine miracle that happened in the santa cruz mountains. >> this dog really wanted to live. and this dog is blind. she disappeared into the cold, wet woods for seven nights. her name is sage.

happening today, san francisco will introduce a lactation policy to make it easier for moms to pump interest milk in the workplace. all private and public workplaces in the zi will have to have a lactation space. mothers would have to fill out a form to request time to pump, and then bosses would be legally required to grant that request. a prominent doctors' group is now urging changes when it comes to the handling of newborns. the american congress of obstetricians and gynecologists is recommending a newborn's umbilical cord be cut no earlier than 30 to 60 seconds after birth. the new advice follows the recommendations of other experts who say infants can benefit from the additional blood volume, especially those born prematurely. pquestion is back in the news ns again because the fitness guru has not been seen now for more than three years in public. the frenzy over where the

part of it as we look at the sunrise and some of those high clouds out there. #abc7now if you see something you want to share with us. mix of sun and clouds the rest of the week, longest dry stretch possible. we had the last seven days of january were dry, that's the longest we've had so far. not as warm but still pretty mild. quarter mile visibility, that's where we're seeing the thickest fog. alameda and lucas valley, possibly some really low visibility there. we do have the storm track to the north and look where the cold air is. it retreated up to the north. these are the high clouds that are going to increase today. it's called warm air invection clouds, tends to bring in more moisture. up to the north, all day today, maybe a shower dips down into sonoma, the northern-most part of the sonoma county during the overnight hours, i wouldn't bet on it, and it retreats even more to the north tomorrow and that means we get even warmer so here's a look at my accuweather 7 day forecast. in fact, some 70s start showing inland tomorrow.

they hit the bay, thursday, but a cool breeze will keep them from ever getting to the coast. we're out of the 70s but still pretty mild saturday, sunday, and monday. and the commute pretty mild this morning as well. i do want to zoom into one of our trouble spots this morning. we have surface street closures around the 500 block of harrison avenue. and that is due to police activity. that is right by mckinley middle school so we've got some intersections closed along with harrison. avoid that area if you can. we do have stop and go traffic on el camino real just a couple blocks over. pretty sunrise this morning. not so pretty, the traffic there approaching the bay bridge toll plaza. those metering lights have been on for about an hour and a half. kind of early today at 5:22 and a note from san francisco bay ferry. they are saying the alameda/oakland trip to san francisco ferry building, 8:10 and 8:20 departures will be serviced by a different vessel so that could create bike capacity issues if you're on that trip. we'll take a look at some more

areas coming up next. here at the live desk, impact to shi want to show you that just came in. incredible rescue. stop what you're doing, watch this video. here it goes. a cable car -- cable on the chair lift there actually came undone and those cars whipping around in the crazy wind storm in italy. they were clocked at 93 miles an hour and those cable cars, you can see just kind of whipping around, flipping up side down, 130 people were on the lift at the time. rescuers had to climb poles to get do those overhead cables, climb on top of the cars through a roof hatch. one person was injured but everybody else made it off the lift okay but this new video has everyone talking online this morning. took four hours to get those people down to safety.

everyone managed to keep their cool. that one just coming in. >> i would not have kept my cool, that's for sure. the family of a missing man from livermore needs help finding him. police released this photo. his family says he left a letter for them on thursday stating that he would no longer see them and that they could find his car at the walmart in livermore and sure enough, his car was there but there was no sign of him. new pictures this morning after a driver crashes into an ampm in concord. this is crazy. it is all the way in the store. police say the driver accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake, sending the car into the market on willow pass road. fortunately, no one got hurt. you have to see this time lapse video from the denver airport behind me. this is actually not a dust storm. these are low clouds moving through the airport. it happened yesterday morning. the video was over a six-minute time span. pretty cool although i don't know what i would think if i were in seat 8 a on that jet.

the dying art of shoe shining getting new life in san francisco. a brand-new stand will open tomorrow and replaces the one by the montgomery b.a.r.t. station. thing one designed the new stand for free, proved photos of it. ten volunteers put it together. shoe shiner salim bay will be attending tomorrow's opening. he is still recovering. i walk by that all the time and i (vo) what if this didn't have to happen? i didn't see it.
