not the waterfront view they wanted at all as we do say good morning, everybody, on this thursday. i'm kendis gibson. >> and linsey davis in for diane. we begin with the showdown over health care. playing out overnight. >> here's a live picture inside the capitol building where democrats and republicans are making good use of red bull and perhaps five-hour energy drinks going head-to-head since yesterday morning. they're embroiled in a heated debate over the republican plan to repeal and replace obamacare. >> the bill is also facing opposition from conservatives but republican leaders are confident it will pass. abc's lana zak has the latest. >> reporter: lawmakers on capitol hill have been working overnight as they tear in the obamacare replacement bill. >> what this bill needs is some extreme vetting. >> reporter: pizza delivers kept them fueled up that lasted through the wee hours as democrats tried various stalling tactics.

at one point debating an amendment to the pay more more less. >> premiums will go up a lot more. >> reporter: republican supporters are trying to push it forward quickly. >> we are on a mission to repeal and replace obamacare. it's a rescue mission to save families and patients all across this country. >> reporter: elsewhere the nation's leading health care groups including the aarp are denouncing the republican plan in a letter it congress the american medical association cited the expected decline in health insurance coverage and the potential harm it would cause to vulnerable patient populations. one early review projects up to 10 million americans could lose their insurance. but president trump has promised insurance for everybody. >> he has committed that no one will lose their insurance. >> reporter: that promise is creating problems among tea party republicans who have opposed the replacement plan calling it obamacare care 2.0. the president inviting those groups to the white house to try and persuade them. >> the bill as it stands now has serious problems, but i'm

encouraged that the president indicated they're working to make it better. >> reporter: and the democrats have another reason for this long protracted political theater. they're trying to stall the bill long enough to allow the nonpartisan congressional budget office to fully score the bill with a more accurate assessment of how much it's going to cost and how many million americans may be affected but i got to say for all "world news now" fans kind of nice to see the lawmakers awake at the same hour we are. >> they know our pain. >> abc's lana zak reporting from washington, thank you. getting word that the president is reportedly planning to slash the housing and urban development budget by more than $6 billion. "the washington post" reports a third of those cuts will come from funds dedicated to public housing. hud programs that help house homeless vets, the disabled and elderly are slated for significant cuts. a survey by adp shows

businesses added nearly 300,000 jobs last month alone. exceeding expectations by more than 100,000 jobs. the president wrote in a tweet overnight, great news. we are only just beginning. hawaii is the first state suing to block the revised travel ban. overnight attorneys for the state officially filed the order which they say will harm hawaii's muslim population, tourism and also foreign students. a federal judge has scheduled a hearing for next wednesday. that's one day before the ban takes effect. and abc news has now confirmed that former utah governor jon huntsman has been tapped to be the next u.s. ambassador to russia. huntsman was a vocal critic of candidate trump during the campaign. he served as ambassador to singapore under the first president bush and ambassador to china under president obama. fbi investigation is under way to track down the source of that massive leak of cia documents posted by wikileaks. officials believe whoever was responsible had access to one of

the highly classified u.s. spy networks, the files revealed alleged hacking tools used to break into computers. cell phones, as well as smart tvs. phone manufacturers like apple and google believe their devices are no longer vulnerable. jim comey is making it clear he intends to serve his entire tenure term. during a conference at boston college comey said you're stuck with me for another six years. there was speculation comey might resign after he rejected president trump's claim that president obama tapped his phones. meanwhile, two senators are working from across the aisle to get to the bottom of that explosive wiretapping allegation. republican lindsey graham and democrat sheldon whitehouse have formally requested information from the department of justice and also the fbi. they want to know of any action taken to listen in on calls at trump tower. okay, to the weather. an outbreak of dangerously high wind knocked out power for

thousands and created a giant mess across much of the country. >> check out what happened in chicago. the wind knocked out a high-rise window raining glass and debris on to the treat below. one chunk even smashed through the window of a moving car. fortunately the driver was spared. much more tragic outcome in detroit where investigators say this apartment fire was deliberately set and it was made even worse by the high winds. five people were killed and at least four others were injured. across the plains, fire crews battling record wildfires have been severely hampered by all that wind so will they get a much needed break today? accuweather's justin povick joins us now. good morning, justin. >> kendis, linsey, thanks and good morning to you. very active time here into the south central plains with regards to all the fires that we have seen and all the high winds, well, today and into tomorrow moisture is climbing so it's not going to be as dry out there and we're also looking at a slight reduction in the wind

speed. two good things here which will lower the fire danger threat. again, a front works its way off to the south. kendis, linsey. >> justin, thank you. at least 200 marines have deployed into syria's with or tillie guns. american forces intensify their battle and it's expected to last less than 120 days. 900 total u.s. troops in all of syria. isis is claiming responsibility for a brazen attack on a military hospital in kabul. at least 30 were killed after four men dressed in white lab coats stormed the hospital and an employee posted on facebook quoting here, attackers are inside the hospital. pray for us. s attackers were killed after several hours of fighting. it will take a very long time to get rid of the damage from a big hole near detroit. >> take a look at the sinkhole about the size of a football

areas have suffered $5 million in damage due to the flooding from heavy winter storms. one homeowner says he can actually hear the splash from his home when large chunks fall into the water. at&t is still looking into what caused a 911 outage for some of its cell phone customers. last night customers were not able to connect with 911 for several hours. services were affected in texas, florida and tennessee among other states and the district of columbia. customers were given alternate numbers to call in the event of an emergency. and two dozen people are under arrest in the largest gun bust in the history of brooklyn, new york. prosecutors say the suspects brought more than 200 weapons into new york city from virginia. all of the weapons were sold to an undercover officer. millions of women across the country observed international women's day by marching, boycotting work and also wearing red. >> yeah, so the protests were called the day without a woman organized, of course, to

traffic jams for hours. so, heavy rain will be the problem today out on the roadways especially from the gulf coast stretching into the northeast. and in the northwest, watch out for stormy weather. rain at lower levels and snow in the mountains. and if you're flying airport delays are possible in boston and new york city. later this morning we're going to hear from the family of one of the indiana teens found murdered last month. >> the reward to find the suspect in the killing of abigail williams and liberty german has now reached $200,000 and this morning, a father in iowa hopes the case can help him solve a murder mystery affecting his own family. it's been 24 days since the bodies of 13-year-old abigail williams and 14-year-old liberty german were found along this wooded trail in delphi, indiana. the killer still at large. but this morning, a father just one state away is hoping the delphi murder case could possibly lead to a break in his own daughter's and niece's abduction and murder. on july 13th, 2012, elizabeth

collins, 8 years old and her 10-year-old cousin lir ra cook went for an afternoon bike ride and never returned. elizabeth's father points out the eerie similarities, both celts of girls taken in a secluded area, their bodies found in wooded terrain and both crimes committed on the 13th of the month. authorities hunting liberty and abigail's killers tell abc news they've compared notes with investigators in iowa. and there will be much more on this story coming up later on "good morning america." now to a close call between a luxury home and a luxury liner, and it's caught on camera. >> a terrified ft. lauderdale couple watched helplessly as a giant cruise ship appeared to head straight for their house. bill todhunter and their wife ran to their deck screaming when it looked like it was heading straight for them. todhunter says he knew something was wrong. >> they've come close, but not literally facing and pointing right at our home 100 feet offshore. >> the ship put its thrusters into reverse roughly 100 feet

away. celebrity cruise lines says no one was in danger and that the ship did not run aground. a police officer's camera captures the frantic moments after a car slammed into a cafe. this happened in santa fe, new mexico. the car hit a number of people. they're expected to be okay. police say an 83-year-old woman was the driver. no charges have been filed. and in new jersey, frightening moments captured on a dash cam at a railroad crossing. a good samaritan rushed in and saved an elderly woman caught on the tracks in front of an approaching train and he pulled her away with seconds to spare. she was taken to the hospital just as a precaution. and barcelona is of course one of the most famous soccer teams in the world. their victory last night will likely go down as one of their greatest ever. >> so, they needed three goals. they were minutes away from going out of europe's top club competition and then a comeback for the ages.

bright day. hey, alexis. good morning, mike. i'm on fog watch this morning as well. no major blocking incidents to talk about but i do have live doppler 7 on top of our traffic maps. we had a little bit around napa and vallejo as mike mentioned but a little denser around santa rosa and north of there. you can see the haze here on this traffic camera at the bay bridge toll plaza. little stack-up in those cash lanes but really no major delays so far this morning. we'll take a look at drive times coming up next. happening now in the east bay, a major water main break has left homes flooded. >> there's worry the street could collapse. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live for us in pittsburg. >> reporter: hi, reggie. it was a long night out here in pittsburg. they worked all night long but they made good progress. they have repaired the water main. now they are just back filling filling in that hole so they can get this street open, but the water has been turned back on for the customers here on black diamond street. here's what it looked like last

night. this break caused a lot of damage to four city blocks. they had four basements full of water and then two apartment complexes also had about a foot of water. >> pretty big. i mean, our backyard is completely flooded, both cars are done. the cadillac is done. like, everything that my dad worked for is gone right >> reporter: the homes that flooded were on 10th and 11th street here in pittsburg. at one point, the street buckled here at black diamond, so they were worried that it would collapse. they have secured it. they don't know why this 12-inch water main broke, but it just ruptured, and caused all kinds of problems with water going everywhere but they have secured it. now they've got to patch it up so they can get black diamond road reopened this morning. they think they're going to be out here for anothe hour or

two. reporting live in pittsburg, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. happening today, a much anticipated public hearing in san jose to review the city's response to that massive flooding from coyote creek. thousands of residents were caught by surprise by the large-scale flooding two weeks ago. san jose didn't issue an evacuation order for neighborhoods along the creek until more than four hours after rock springs was already submerged. accountability for putting lives in jeopardy is expected to come up at this hearing, along with the city's reliance on the internet and social media to push out alerts. the meeting is going to be held today at 3:00 at san jose city hall. chipt restaurants are holding a fund-raiser and donating 100% of the proceeds to the flood relief fund. show this flyer or tell the cashier you're supporting the cause. you can get the flyer on our news app or
