francisco. an armed suspect who forced an entire neighborhood into lockdown is now in custody after a nearly seven-hour standoff. good evening. the standoff at a residential hotel effectively shut down one of san francisco's busies areas on what would have normally been a hopping friday night. it all happened at valencia and 16th streets in the mission. arriving on the scene shortly after the barricades started, sergio is live with breaking details. >> reporter: dan, valencia street was reopened a little more than an hour ago, but the police tell us that residents of the crown hotel, especially those on the third floor, where the suspect was holed up for hours, may not get into their rooms for a little while because that floor is still being processed as a crime scene. >> reporter: a busy section of the neighborhood remained in limbo for hours. the police even brought in muni buses to wait in and began working with the red cross in case this went into the night

and people will to sleep somewhere else. >> the tactical managers -- >> this all started about 2:00 p.m. police say they went from room to room inside the crown hotel offering his services. when he knocked on the suspect's door, theened it holding a gun. that's what prompted a response. >> so we're being evacuated from the building. >> three busy blocks of valencia street had to be cleared of residents, customers, and employees of businesses here. >> the police officer just told us you should run, you should run because we got out, and we were walking, and he was kind of gesturing towards us like you better run, you better run. he told us we were in the line of fire and ran out into the street. we were not under any kind of cover from what we could tell. it was a little chaotic and scary. >> we did see officers with ballistic shields escorting people closest to the danger zone. 12 hours into the standoff it finally ended.

>> she was taken into custody and then taken to a local hospital for a physical and psychological evaluation. reporting live in the mission district of san francisco, i'm -- abc 7 news. >> sergio, thank you very much. we've been sending out push alerts about this story since it stirs farther. new at 11:00, a first look at main arrested for a shooting that shut down eastbound interstate 80 des moines richmond. v grave condition. his passenger, a 24-year-old woman, was also injured. the chp credits witnesses for

helping them arrest suspects within hours of the shooting. also new at 11:00 the santa clara county sheriff's office has arrested a second person now in the beating death of an 86 -- or 88-year-old san jose woman. flow douglas, effectively known as miss flo died in october after fighting for her life for several weeks as we reported at the time. prosecutors charged zachary kuen with her murder saying he broke into her east san jose home and beat her savagely. tonight jennifer hernandez jiminez is also in custody being held without bail. detectives believe she helped conceal the crime. >> well, she is out there somewhere tonight, but the desperate search to find a woman with dementia lost in the woods like this won't resume until morning.

>> katie is live with new details tonight. katie. >> dan, the ground search was called off when the sun went down, but the san mateo county sheriff's office tells us aircraft continue to search this area and will continue to search the area through the night. as you can tell by the dark woods behind us here, finding someone in these conditions is no easy task. 56-year-old bethany was found thursday a little after 4:00 p.m. she was hiking with her dog on skyline boulevard in woodside. this woman lives on skyline. she says hikers get lost here all the time. >> a lot of people have come knocking on my door looking for their car. they just get turned around. >> 13 dorgz have been looking tore are for bethenny in wooded terrain. >> it's challenging for someone

from the air to be able it see anything, as well as the ground units. >> there's also the issue of bethenny's health. >> she has early onset of dementia, and so we're worried about where it is she might be located or if she knows where sle is. >> she's from mountain view. she had been staying at a bed and breakfast with her husband and 15-year-old son. her husband reported her missing thursday night around 7:00. she's 5'5", 140 pounds, and is wearing yoga pants and a pink shirt. >> i just hope they find her, and i'm going hiking tomorrow so hopefully they'll find her before i go on my hike, but i will keep my eyes open where. >> the sheriff's office says it's good the weather has been mild, and there's plenty of water to be found in the woods right now. the search resumes at first light. in woodside, katie, abc 7 news.

>> his father had nothing to say to us. the 35-year-old is accused of following a 14-year-old girl home offering her money and gifts and keeping photo coalages of young girls at his home. >> you have a defendant that's targeted young females and girls and harassed them repeatedly over the past few years. >> investigators say sani has applied for jobs at churches and schools. more possible victims have come forward. >> the wife of the orlando nightclub shooter will remain in jail even though a judge in oakland granted her bail last week. today a judge in florida decided she should not be released because the two talked about a club attack less than a week before it happened. she claims she didn't know the extent of his plans. new tonight an east bay attorney is suing president trump to try to stop this

controversial travel ban. the president signed the executive order on monday. it blocks travel from six muslim majority nations, except for people with visas issued before january 27th. in the complaint attorney andrew says the order harms the american people through discrimination. he also says that setting a date requirement for visas violates the constitution's equal protection clause. all right. mark your calendars. bart announced today its newest station will finally open for passengers on march 25th. a warm spring station extends bart service to southern fremont near the tesla factory. abc 7 news reporter katie is live at the warm spring station tonight, and, katie, commuters in that area can't wait. during this year's calend der w are going to see the east bay connected with the silicon

sfliefrmt developing news. san francisco's health department has released an urgent warning about a toxic tea. this is what it looks like. the health department says this herbal tea contains a deadly poison. it was purchased by two people from an herbalist at the sun wing world training company on grand avenue and china town. both a man and woman became severely ill and had to be hospitalized with life-threatening heart problems. it was that bad. the health department is now asking anyone who has this tea to throw it out immediately.
