federal custody. this video shows lights suddenly turning on. 26-year-old jonathan tran was discovered there just before midnight friday. >> that's crazy. because usually you don't see that around here, you know. >> reporter: tran is a san jose state graduate who lives in this milpitas neighborhood. >> i saw him couple days ago in his car. >> reporter: it's not clear how he made it to d.c., but he scaled a fence with a backpack on. court documents say he came just yards from the white house and president trump was inside. he said he was a friend of the president's. >> i hope he gets help too. >> reporter: as a saturday lunch, the president thanked the secret service. >> great job, it was a troubled person. >> reporter: they say he had two cans of mace in his backpack, a letter to president trump that mentioned russian hackers.

also said they've been called schizophrenic. but on thanksgiving day in 2015, a flag-wearing intruder scaled the fence. in 2014, this man carrying a knife made it inside the white house before he was arrested. tran made his first court appearance today. he's charged with entering restricted grounds while carrying a dangerous weapon. in the south bay, lonnie rivera, abc7 news. vice president mike pence traveled to kentucky today to appeal for support for the white house-backed overhaul. he spoke at an energy company in louisville as part of an to reassure conservatives who have raised objections to the plan, including senator rand paul. >> for us to seize this opportunity to repeal and replace obamacare once and for all. we need every republican in congress and we're counting on kentucky. >> the house is expected to vote in two weeks.

are without water due to this break. the water flooded a yard in the street as it seeped up from the street for at least an hour and a half. no word yet what caused the pipe to rupture. a man died after his car collided head on with another vehicle in campbell. highway patrol officers looked for evidence along winchester boulevard. both vehicles came to a stop on the off-ramp. a chrysler 300 was heading north in the southbound lanes when it slammed into an oncoming car. a woman was rushed to a trauma center. abc7 was in san francisco's north beach, where police hoped to find clues and witnesses after a young man was shot and killed at green street and grant avenue. the 22-year-old victim was shot several times around 1:30 this morning. police have not made any arrests. new details on the brutal road rage attack on highway 101

in san francisco on wednesday. the lift driver, who was injured, it looking at least another ten days in the hospital. pins were placed in alex quintana's left leg. more than a dozen bikers were doing wheelies and blocking traffic when quintana tried to get into another lane. one of the bikers broke a side mirror. the bikers attacked. ran over his leg, breaking it. no arrests have been made. a hazmat crew kept a dangerous situation from getting out of hand at stanford today. a fire started in a lab. sprinklers quickly put it out. however, biohazardous waste was inside. the hazmat team decontaminated the area. it did not affect hospital buildings where patients were being treated, but patient pickup had to be moved during the incident. firefighters don't know which hazardous materials were involved, saying they were consumed by the fire. second time in a week, some

a palo alto woman and her dog were found safe after spending nearly two days lost in the woods. 56-year-old bethnee haury is now at stanford medical center. her husband tells abc7 news, pshe's in a neck brace and has bumps and bruises, but it doing well. abc7 news reporter kate larson tells us, haury spent two nights in the woods with no water or supplies. only her australian shepherd to keep her warm. >> set her down, set her down. >> after getting lost in the woods for almost 48 hours, search and rescue crews carried 56-year-old bethnee haury to safety. >> she was found 600 feet from
