205 to 580, 10, 15-mile-per-hour average once you get past altamont pass. another look at traffic at 6:10. >> announcer: breaking news from the live desk. >> hi. the breaking news out of southern california. an officer-involved shooting. we've learned this 30-year-old suspect is now dead. all caught on camera. in fact, i showed you this video last hour. i've learned it was a traffic stop that escalated when the suspect took out a gas can inside the van, lit a cigarette and officers thought he might light himself on fire. probably the reason you see this water spraying down the van. as they take the suspect out. something we certainly don't see every day. two knives were found inside the suspect's car. unclear at this point how many officers opened fire. you can see them all in the video with their guns drawn. right now, an investigation is underway. reggie and natasha, back to you. >> disturbing. jessica, thank you. turning now to former

president obama waking up in the bay area this morning. >> this is his first trip to silicon valley since leaving the white house. the big question, where is he going today? definitely laying very low since he arrived at the airport. we saw his motorcade leave and now he's staying there tonight. abc 7's lonnie rivera is live in san jose. >> good morning, natasha. since we've been here this morning, all we've seen is just this police car in front of the hotel here. we're not sure if it is part of the security detail for the former president. but here's a look at former president obama's motorcade as it arrived at san jose airport. the reason for his visit is not clear. it comes as the clock ticks for president trump to back up his claims that the former president wiretapped his phones during the campaign. the house intelligence committee set today as the deadline for proof of those accusations. >> president trump has to provide the american people, not just the intelligence committee,

but the american people with evidence. >> before traveling to san jose, president obama spent the day with billionaire warren buffet in omaha, nebraska. they had lunch and a quick meeting sunday. we will be here this morning to see where he's going next. we're live in downtown san jose. lonnie rivera, abc 7 news. >> thank you. an estimate of how much president trump's new health care plan could cost is likely going to come out later today. outside analysts who reviewed the republican plan estimate 6 million to 15 million people may lose their health coverage. the bill drops the obama mandate requiring americans to buy insurance or pay a penalty. instead, it offers tax credits and other incentives designed to give consumers more choice. >> obamacare is collapsing. if we just did nothing, washed our hands of the situation, we would see a further collapse of the health insurance markets. we feel an only dpabligation toe

this law with one that works, has more freedom. >> the non-partisan congressional budget office is expected to give its score of the bill this week. the confirmation hearing for alexander acosta, president trump's new labor secretary pick, has been postponed until next wednesday. it was supposed to happen this wednesday. the committee chairman overseeing acosta's confirmation is traveling with mr. trump. the president's first nominee, restaurant executive puzder, withdrew his name last month. new surveillance video expected to be released showing michael brown before he was killed by a ferguson, missouri, police officer. this is part of the new documentary, "stranger fruit." it suggests brown didn't rob a store before the encounter with the white officer. it suggested he was trading manufacture for drugs. the clerk's lawyer denies the claim, saying an unedited version will show what really happened. brown's father says there is a lack of transparency by police. >> the taste is in the pudding, you know.

you can see it for yourself. you know, all the information is right there for you. i just feel like they should have came out a little earlier. >> the documentary sparked new protests in ferguson overnight. dozens of people participated. at least one person was arrested. an east bay family is struggling to understand why somebody opened fire on a freeway and killed their loved one. 24-year-old demarcus doss died friday night a day after someone shot him on i-80 in richmond. his sisters say though he was the youngest in the family, he was their protector. police said the shooting was not random but his family says they don't know anyone bwho would wat to hurt him. >> college student, good kid. all he did was work out, play with the family. very family oriented. that's all he did. didn't hurt a fly. guy with so much muscles but soft as a teddy bear. >> richmond police arrested three men in connection with the

canada and yanking the cold air down into the upper midwest and new england. i'm going to put a storm impact scale just for the north bay wednesday night. here's the reason why. 7: 7:00 in the morning, nothing but fog. high clouds increase. by 5:00, wednesday evening, you can see light rain developing in the north bay. as we head to the evening and overnight hours, it becomes scattered, light showers. less than 1/10 inch of rain possible in the porte bay. it'll drop the temperatures back to the 60s temporarily. thursday and friday, warmer. saturday, we cool. sunday, we'll have a slight chance of rain. not sold on it yet. i'll keep an eye on that one. alexis? we've got a problem in the south bay right now. i want to take you live to the traffic camera around 280 and 17. you'll see all these flashing lights. initially, they thought it was a car that went off the roadway and caught fire. actually, turns out this is most likely a homeless fire that got out of control.

commute. kate larsen is live in palo alto for us. kate? >> good morning, reggie. good morning, natasha. if you haven't hit a pothole the past few months, i want to know where you're driving. if you're like me, you're constantly hitting them and dodging them. last night and this morning, no exception for the drivers in palo alto. take a look around 9:15 last night. the chp started getting calls from people about potholes here in palo alto between embarcadero and university in the northbound lanes on highway 101. two lanes were closed from last night until 3:45 this morning. while caltrans worked quickly to try and repair those potholes before the heavy morning commute began. about a dozen cars were damaged with tires or front end damage. the report, the chp responded and said there were four very large potholes.

>> we've noticed that there are four or more large potholes ranging anywhere from four to six feet in length. two to three feet in length. three to six inches in depth. >> we know that heavy rains just increase potholes, the size and the frequency of them. of course, we've had a lot of storms this year. it's been an especially big problem this year. more than $600 million worth of damage to state highways this year alone. that number is likely growing. there is a solution. if you hit a pothole, you are able to file a claim with caltrans up to $10,000. you can do that online or by phone. we've actually put a link on our website. you can go there and take a look if you've hit one of the potholes recently. live in palo alto, kate larsen, abc 7 news. >> thank you. we're one week away from spring. looks like it here. it doesn't look like it here, does it? we're talking about 60 million

nearly 1,000 already cancelled for tomorrow. no relief in sight. r >> the misery map aptly named. the community coming together in san jose. people affected by the coyote creek flooding have essential items thanks to the generosity of others. abc 7 was at the donation drive yesterday. thousands of people turned out to drop off clothing, food, furniture and other items. flood victims were able to pick up whatever they needed. the san jose woman behind the drive says she felt compelled to do something. >> i was not affected but i was two blocks away. my husband and i and family wanted to give back. our way to give back was go through the neighborhood, see what people really needed. >> the city is admitting it did not give people enough notice to evacuate. it is working on getting state and federal aid to the victims. happening today, caltrans is going to start demolishing pfeiffer canyon bridge on highway 101 and big sur. crews condemned the bridge after storms caused it to crack,

buckle and slide down the hill. a wrecking ball is going to get to work at 7:00 this morning. demo is expected to last several hours. oakland police hope will be identified in the incident of two men being gunned down. the first was on dashwood avenue in oakland. the victim died. that same night, another man was shot inside of a car in north oakland. this happened near the oakland/berkeley border at 60th street and martin luther king jr. way. he died after being driven to the hospital. napa county reaching out to businesses to hopefully stop human trafficking. posters have gone out to 80 businesses in the last week. the idea is to help workers identify victims of human trafficking and tell them about the support available. state law requires places like bars, bus stations, emergency rooms and farms that use contract labor to post these. another series of bomb threats is targeting jewish

community centers across the country. several jewish centers received threats via e-mail yesterday, including this one in indianapol indianapolis. police searched in and around the buildings after the threats came in but found nothing. >> the other centers across the country that, at the same time also received threats in the similar manner by e-mail. we do believe that this is part of, as i mentioned on tuesday, a larger picture. >> it is true. it keeps happening. the threats follow one made against the addison penzak center in los gatos. a sheriff's bomb unit found nothing after hours of searching. >> it makes me happy many are supporting this cause and makes me have hope it is going to turn out better. >> a positive side here. that seventh grader is one of hundreds who rallied in support of the jewish community in louisville, kentucky. a bomb threat was called into a local jewish community center

there on wednesday. nothing happened. no one was hurt. neighbors decided to throw a unity rally yesterday. the goal was to bring people together following the recent string of nationwide threats. a hiker says she is thankful for all the people who helped find her after she disappeared in the san mateo county hills. haury spent two days in the wilderness. searchers found her saturday after not returning on thursday. rescuers found her at the bottom of a ravine. she was suffering from dehydration and minor injuries. she has early onset dementia and there were concerns for her health. she's recovering from bumps and bruises at home and is feeling better. 6:38. the coast guard rescued two men after their kayaks capsized in sonoma county. one managed to cling to the side of his kayak and called the coast guard for help. it happened yesterday afternoon aound 4:30 in bodega bay. one man was treated at the scene and another was taken to the

where a commuter train has hit an suv that was on the tracks. the driver of the car now in the hospital. about 200 people were on the train during the crash. this is video from just a few moments ago. we have no injuries reported with this right now. those passengers being moved on to busses to continue their commute. just to be clear, no injuries on the train but we have the driver taken to the hospital. there may be damage on the rails, as well. the entire line stopped in both directions right now. it is going to be a mess for the morning commute out there in new york. reggie and natasha, back to you. >> thanks. police in southern california trying to identify the environmental activist who did this. you can't see it now, but they vandalize add golf course owned by president trump. under that tarp if you were to peel it back, you'd see the words carved, no more tigers, no more woods. the vandals carved the message into one of the greens at the trump national golf club

an activist group said it happened in response to what is the trump administration's blatant disregard for the environment. the milpitas man accused of jumping the white house fence with two cans of mace will be in federal court. 26-year-old tran was stopped before midnight on friday, just yards from the south aberrance to the white house. tran had scaled the fence and told the officer that he was friends with the president and had an invitation. tran has been charged with entering restricting grounds while carrying a dangerous weapon. who could face up to ten years in prison. he was troubled after being laid off from his engineering job and living in his car. former president barack obama starting his week in the bay area. >> this is the first time he's visited leaving the white house. lonnie rivera is live in san jose with that and a big deadline today. >> yes. yes, natasha. we're in front of the fairmont. behind me, you see this patrol
