shots fired near bay area university. right now the manhunt is on for someone said to be armed and dangerous. good evening. >> fremont police announced on twitter that their officers were involved in a shooting involved in the csu east bay campus in hayward. >> the city view apartments, the university village apartments and the intersection of oakes and campus drive. >> katie is live in hayward with what we're learning the tonight. >> reporter: we know from that fremont police department tweet that fremont officers were involved in a shooting here in hayward. these are the city view apartments right on the other

side of this fence. you can see now the large police presence and several of those yellow evidence markers on the ground. where we're standing on this side of the fence, this is property of univerity village which is on campus housing. so because obviously these two parties are right next door, students who live at university village were told to shelter in place. in fact they got a pretty dramatic voicemail from the university with those instructions. first, you'll hear that voicemail and then hear from a student who heard the gunfire. >> the hayward police is investigating the shooting. a suspect is on the loose in the area. the university village shelter in place. close all doors and stay inside until you have received and another all clear message. >> i was in my room waiting for my class and i heard the gunshots outside. i thought it was crazy. i went to the window and i saw the cops going up in the hill, going really fast. and i saw some ambulances going down the hill.

i heard a noise. it was crazy. >> fremont police say hayward police have since taken over the search for the suspect believed to be armed and dangerous. hayward police have said via twitter that they have would suspects in custody and they are searching for possible additional suspects. there is a second scene as well at campus drive and oaks. it's been clear exactly how that is related to the officer involved shooting. we've made multicalls and reached out to hareward police in different ways and those requests have not yet been returned. we know that campus drive and second street are still closed and up until a few moments ago, we still heard the police helicopter circling above. it is unclear if anyone was injured or even kid in the shooting but we do know the shelter in place for university village has been lifted and that classes at csu east bay were never affected by any of this. and speaking of students, we've

said he has done nothing wrong but still, he was issued a search warrant last night and told to leave his home. today, authorities returned and they searched the inside and outside of that home behind me for nine hours. sky 7 was overhead as the home annie bailey shared with her husband carey was searched by investigators. at one point, more than dues police officers surrounded the house. >> they think i killed her. she was really, really suicidal. >> reporter: he carey bailey said he learned just yesterday that his wife's remains were positively identified after being found in marin county last month. he insists he had nothing to do with her disappearance. >> marijuana and anti-depressants. just screwed her up. >> reporter: that's not what investigators think. >> suicide is ruled out.

yahoo! accounts. the hacks happened in 2014 and the previous year. bloomberg reports four people face charges. three are currently in russia. the fbi will provide an update tomorrow morning at its san francisco office. of course, we will let you know. b.a.r.t. is changing course its proposed sanctuary policy. our media partner the east bay times reports the operations and safety committee asked staff to rewrite the policy. suggestions include, changing the words sanctuary to safe zone but keeping the same tone. funding from the trump administration may be the issue. last year b.a.r.t. received $55 million from the federal government. the president has promised to pull funding from sanctuary cities. oakland's embattled fire chief is retiring. he fired retirement payments today after her city pension vested. two deputy chiefs will be in charge in the interim. her department colonels a little

more than three months after the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire. in the wake of the fire, critics called reid out for what they say was a lack of fire inspections. getting answers about that fire, the deadly nest oakland's history, will be the focus of a senate hearing tomorrow in sacramento. oakland is sending the administrator. lawmakers the want to know how to prevent similar fires in other live/work buildings. 36 people died when flames erupted during a music event at the warehouse that did not have permits for residences or the event. norovirus may have spread through an elementary school. had one case of norovirus last week and alerted parents. however, today 35 students called out sick with norovirus like symptoms. crews deep cleaned over the weekend. sick kids will not be allowed back in class until they show no sign of symptoms for 48 hours.

a napa high school football quarterback accused of hazing got his say during a public hearing on his fate. he wanted it public and so did his parents. he's been out of school for ten weeks. he faces a one-year expulsion. he is one of eight j.v. football players accused in an alleged hazing incident last october, first reported by our i-team. torres made his case to stay in school. >> i wasn't aware of a hazing ritual and i had no intentions of hazing or or any of those allegations. >> the hearing is likely to continue tomorrow. the school could vote on the expulsion thursday night. a wayward sea lion is far away from home tonight. coming up, the all out rescue to get this little guy back to where he belongs. and they're back. for the first time, the family at the center of the video interruption is back. and hillary clinton gets toward return to the bay area.
