>> it ended how you think it would if you're going to drive a truck on a frozen lake. >> not very well for the truck owner. >> yeah. as we do say good morning, everybody, on this wednesday, we're going to start with that breaking news. the white house is confirming president trump's financial information that was leaked overnight. >> so, as a candidate president trump refused to release his tax information saying he was being audited by the irs, but this is the 1040 that a journalist claims was sent to him anonymously. the white house now says that this is the president's return from 2005. it shows how much he paid in taxes and what his income was for that year. >> abc's kenneth moton joining us from washington, d.c. where it's been a very busy overnight. good morning, kenneth. >> reporter: good morning, kendis and diane. this morning the white house says that newly leaked tax document confirms president trump is one of the most successful businessmen who paid no more tax than legally required. president trump's tax returns revealed partially.

this morning the white house is confirming what the billionaire president paid in taxes in 2005 only. $38 million on an income of more than 150 million. trump's tax rate, 25%, slightly lower than the average but much higher than the 14% 2012 gop nominee mitt romney paid the year before he ran. >> what is your tax rate? >> it's none of your business. >> reporter: trump, the first president in decades not to release his taxes. >> yes or no, do you believe voters have a right to see your tax returns before they make a final decision? >> i don't think they do. >> reporter: so why now? >> came in the mail over the transome. >> reporter: from msnbc, independent award winning journalist david cay johnston claimed on "the rachel maddow show" he received the first two pages of the '05 document anonymously in the mail. >> it's entirely possible that donald sent this to me. he has leaked all sort of things. >> reporter: called the deflector in chief,

negative headlines about the gop health care plan to replace obamacare, his failure to back up his claim that president obama wiretapped him and investigations on russia. >> what do the russians have on donald trump politically, financially and personally? what will the tax returns tell us about that? >> reporter: this morning the white house fired back attacking the media and calling this leaked document illegally obtained but authentic. we still don't know key information like trump's source of income or charitable donations. diane and kendis. >> all right, our kenneth moton there in d.c. for us, thank you. and kenneth mentioned the republican health care plan. well, protesters turned out in the snow at house speaker paul ryan's office in wisconsin to denounce the plan. >> now, ryan and others who helped craft the proposal are facing fierce criticism this morning. that comes after congressional budget analysts said their plan would result in tens of millions of people losing their coverage. the speaker, though, defending it overnight. >> sure, there are people who have concerns or criticisms but

that's what happens when you get consensus. we have an obligation to keep our promises, to pass the reforms that we told people we would pass if we got this opportunity. >> so, ryan and the senate majority leader mitch mcconnell acknowledged they are open to some changes. ryan is hoping to get the plan through the house next week so it can move on to the senate. and white house press secretary sean spicer says president trump is, quote, extremely confident that there is evidence to back up the president's wiretapping claims. the justice department has until next monday to turn over any evidence to congressional investigators. that's the same day hearings on russia's interference in last year's election are scheduled to begin. two weeks ago the president alleged on twitter that then president obama ordered his wires tapped at trump tower before the election. a spokesman for former president obama has denied that claim. and new this morning, china is offering a possible olive branch to the united states when it comes to trade. china's second in command said his country doesn't want a trade war with the u.s.

president trump has promised to raise import taxes on chinese goods to counter what he says are unfair trade practices. that has raised concerns about the possibility of chinese retaliation. also breaking right now, the justice department later today will announce charges in a massive hack affecting yahoo! three people in russia and one in canada are set to be charged. abc news has learned some of the suspects are believed to be connected to the russian government. more than 1 billion yahoo! users accounts were compromised in two separate breaches. the nation's top marine on capitol hill facing tough questions from lawmakers about the nude photo scandal. the general there, robert neller, promising to hold the guilty accountable during an appearance before a senate committee, but some senators say the marines have had plenty of time to improve noting that accusations of online exploitation of women dates back to 2013. >> who is being held accountable for doing nothing since 2013? who?

among those perks, travel and entertainment services including prostitutes. the officers are also set to have steered contracts to the company in exchange for those services. millions of americans are digging out this morning across the northeast. that monster nor'easter took a surprise turn inland. sparing the major cities along the coast from the brunt of the storm, i'd say. philadelphia, new york and boston got only about seven inches, a fraction of the original predictions, but further inland, whoa, nelly, it was a different story with many areas getting as much as two feet of snow and this morning the new concern is that fresh blast of arctic air. look at some of these morning windchill temperatures. 10 degrees here in new york. minus 2 in detroit, 18 in atlanta. that's not celsius, right? >> no, unfortunately, not. a lot of worry about the effect that will have on the roads. >> yes. still ahead, why you're more likely to crack your phone's screen this friday compared to any other day of the year.

helped performing cpr. no word this morning however on her condition. police are searching to are a suspect involved in a california highway shooting. the suspect opened fire during rush hour including injuring rather two drivers on an interstate near san bernardino. both victims were taken to the hospital. neither is seriously injured. economists expect the central bank to boost interest rates later today when the federal reserve wraps up its two-day meeting. experts say the fed could raise the rate a quarter of a percentage point for the second time in three months. it's encouraged by strong reported monthly job gains and confidence in rising inflation. the move would make the u.s. more attractive as an investment siphoning capital away from emerging markets. a florida neighborhood on high alert because of a missing pet. that pet, a highly venomous snake. the two-foot-long snake escaped from its home in ocala and hasn't been seen since monday. the owner is licensed to have the cobra. he also has two other snakes. officials are still looking into whether the owner violated any laws. rooms where venomous reptiles

so, there was a little bit of a horseplay going on in the midst of the blizzard in new york. an off-duty nypd officer spotted these two ponies picking up their hoofs in the streets of staten island. they broke out of their stable and the officer did manage to corral and secure them. felt like a real urban cowboy. >> unusual sight. >> it is. >> in the city. now for a look at morning road conditions, icy across yesterday's blizzard zone is making for some slippery roads across much of the northeast. flooding along a lot of the upper west coast as well will make things a little tricky. also, you'll have some mountain snow farther inland. >> we're having some residual airport delays in washington, d.c., philadelphia and new york as well as boston. and speaking of flying, we're hearing about some intense moments for flyers after a battery explosion midflight.

>> a woman's battery-operated headphones exploded on a flight from beijing to melbourne. that woman said she heard a loud explosion then felt a burning sensation on her face. her hand was also blistered and she says her hair and eyebrows are singed. officials say the batteries in the headphones most likely caught fire. and ben affleck is now admitting to finishing another stint in rehab for alcohol. the actor opened up in a facebook post about his ongoing battle saying he wants to be a source of strength for others who need help but are afraid to take the first step. he also thanked estranged wife jennifer garner for supporting him and his children. "entertainment tonight" reports affleck attended the oscars with a sober coach. a driver and a passenger learned a valuable lesson about driving a truck on a frozen lake. >> why are you slowing down? aaagh! aaagh! >> that's quite a scene there. this happening in winnipeg, canada. the two people in the truck say winter driving across a lake used to be so safe way back in the day. they escaped unharmed. the truck, however, is still submerged below the ice.

temperatures mild this morning, but notice the lack of 70s at noon and 4:00. lot of 50s and 60s and upper 50s to low 60s at 7:00. so not as warm today. i want to talk about fog this morning as well, mike. here's a look at the bay bridge, another angle as you're heading into san francisco. a couple moments ago, this was totally socked in. very low visibility so as fog has a tendency to do, it's shifting and moving around quite a bit and a lot here at golden gate as well. dense fog advisory issued by the chp for golden gate bridge this morning. so, we will keep an on that. you want to drive for conditions. we'll check on the central valley coming up. developing news now. we are learning more this morning about what happened at an officer. >> involvd shooting that left a woman dead, two detectives hurt and one man still on the loose. >> this happened near the csu east bay campus. abc7 news reporter matt keller live for us in hayward this morning. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha.

now, the police are still looking for one of the suspects. i'm standing here on oaks drive and campus drive and you can see they still have police tape up behind me blocking access to the woodland estates. this is an apartment complex here. now, what happened was the suspect ended up crashing the vehicle at this spot and he got out and fled on foot. earlier, fremont police pulled over what they say was a stolen car in an apartment complex carlos b boulevard, about half a mile away, investigators say the stolen vehicle was wanted in connection with multiple armed robberies. two officers were injured when the suspect suddenly rammed the detectives' vehicles. police fired into that car, killing a woman inside the car, two other people inside that car were detained. all the police activity was happening right next door to campus housing at cal state east bay. the students who live at university village were told to shelter in place. >> i just want to feel safe again here. you know, we come to school here so we just want to be safe. we're outside of our houses, so

it's crazy. >> reporter: both the injured fremont police officers were treated and released after being taken to a hospital. the name of the woman who was killed is being withheld until her family is notified and we are being told that hayward police is expecting to talk about this. they are the lead investigative team on this incident and they are expected to talk later this morning. reporting live in hayward, matt keller, abc7 news. happening today, the fbi in san francisco will discuss charges in connection to massive hacks on yahoo. sources tell abc7 news four people with suspected ties to russia are going to be charged. three of them in roush, one in canada. the fbi expects to arrest that suspect in canada. they do not have access yet to the suspects in russia. sunnyvale-based yahoo has been hit by two large breaches with data stolen from an estimated 1.5 billion accounts. and speaking of hacking, breaking news this morning, hundreds of twitter accounts from media and celebrities were
