and good morning on this wednesday, march 15. you know, yesterday i was walking around and i was thinking, like, this is just the best ever. >> i know. >> so great. today, not the best ever, right? but still not bad >> still very mild. and really don't need an umbrella unless you're well up to the north and that will be during the evening hours so i think we'll have a stretch of some pretty comfortable weather. let's take a look at what's going on with live dopler 7. you can see some low clouds along the coast spilling into the bay and high clouds taking over the north bay. the fog is very patchy but it's going to be thick here and there. 44 to 55, that's how you should dress this morning. thicker clouds, 57 to 67 which is still pretty comfortable and a mild evening, 56 to 61. we are still looking good on the roads this morning. of course, fog could be an issue

in some areas as mike just mentioned and we are looking at some fog here for the bay bridge commute. i have seen the shift quite a bit. it was very dense about 15, 20 minutes ago and as we flip to the traffic maps, i do have the visibility layer added. not seeing a ton. we had quite a bit in the north bay around vallejo, napa, but that's thinned out for the moment. so the always elusive fog, we're trying to keep track of this morning. developing news in hayward this morning, authorities investigating a police shooting that left a woman dead and officers looking for a wanted man. sky7 over the scene near campus and oaks drive where the suspect crashed his car and then took off on foot last night. officers searched that area into the night, but eventually called it off around 1:00 this morning. fremont police tried to stop the driver earlier near an apartment complex on carlos bee boulevard. investigators say the vehicle was stolen and want wanted in connection with multiple armed robberies. the suspect suddenly rammed the

detectives' vehicle and that hurt two officers. police fired into the car, killing a woman inside that car. two other people inside the car detained. the injured detectives were treated at the hospital and released but all in all, just a wild story that continues this morning. more developing news that's getting dozens of kids stick to their stomach. >> an east bay district looking at a possible norovirus outbreak. amy hollyfield is live in dublin this morning. >> reporter: reggie, can you imagine the hand washing that is going to happen here at this school today. 35 kids stayed home sick yesterday from dublin elementary school. the district has confirmed that there is one case of norovirus here and the kids who stayed home have norovirus-like symptoms. crews deep cleaned the school over the weekend and they've doubled their custodial staff this week and they're working with the health department. school officials are emphasizing how important it is to keep sick kids at home and to leave them

there for a while. in a statement, the school said students who are experiencing vomiting and/or diarrhea should not return to school for at least two full days after symptoms have ended. we appreciate all the support we have received from our families and our staff. and then also in the statement, they encouraged the families, stressing that their kids wash their hands. reporting live in dublin, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. miserable time. thank you, amy. happening today, federal courtrooms expected to hold hearings about blocking president trump's travel ban. that ban goes into effect at 12:01 tomorrow morning. hearings are scheduled in maryland and hawaii. california is also part of five states challenging the ban but there is not a hearing in our state. they are trying to derail the order that would impact travelers from six muslim majority countries. the first hearing starts in about an hour and a half in green belt, maryland. and b.a.r.t. changing course

on its proposed sanctuary policy now. it would have set policies on immigration enforcement similar to sanctuary cities. our media partner the "east bay times" reports the operations and safety committee asked staff to rewrite the policy. suggestions included changing the word sanctuary to safe zone. funding from the trump administration may be the issue here. last year, b.a.r.t. received $55 million from the federal government. the president has already promised to pull funding from the sanctuary cities. we are getting a first look at president trump's personal tax returns from 2005. "independent journal"ist david cay johnston made them public. he says two pages from the return were sent to him anonymously. the white house confirms mr. trump paid $38 million in federal taxes on a reported income of $150 million. he declared $103 million in losses, placing him well under the top income bracket -- tax bracket of 35%.

inferno. it happened during an electronic music party at a warehouse. the focus of today's state senate committee hearing will be on how to prevent similar tragedies. edwin burn balm is expected to testify. oakland is sending an assistant city administrator. the hearing comes a day after oakland leaders revealed the city's embattled fire chief is retiring. teresa deloach reed has been on leave since january. she came under fire when she admitted the warehouse had never been expected. critics complain she was slow to hire key positions. her retirement comes just days after she became fully vested for her city pension. two deputy chiefs will be in charge. new details about what has turned into a mercury mystery in contra costa county. the epa is working with county officials to figure out who keeps spilling this hazardous material. this has happened three times in the same neighborhood just since

living together at the time, though he had filed for divorce. in pengrove, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. san francisco is considering a robot tax. you heard that right. this would apply to every machine that replaced a human worker, that's according to "the examiner." supervisor jane kim called for a hearing on the proposal yesterday. she says revenue from the robot tax will go towards educating and training displaced workers for jobs of the future. santa cruz county pressing for more help now for property owners who suffered damage during our recent storms. county officials contacted the u.s. small business administration for low interest loans to qualify the county must present 25 properties that sustained damage costs totalingly at least 40% of each property's value. the loans would only cover uninsured damage. last mopt, the county launched a survey for residents who experiences significant storm damage. nearly 250 people responded.

passenger frantically trying to escape and they actually made it out okay. the truck is still in the lake. now, apparently driving across the frozen lake is really common. authorities are warning against it because there's actually a rapid current running right beneath that ice. >> oh my gosh. this is also unbelievable. a woman says her headphones suddenly exploded while on an international flight between china and australia. the australian transport safety bureau posted these pictures of the woman's face left blackened after her battery-powered headphones caught fire. the woman was asleep, listening to music during the flight when she heard the explosion and felt the burning on her face. she threw her headphones on the floor and saw sparks and small flames shooting from them. the flight attendant then put out the fire. if atsb believes the batteries in that device likely caused that fire. it's such a scary thing. we have to get this investigated. >> really. >> in today's "gma" first look,

news new york. milpitas police will soon have brand-new body cameras, according to the mercury news, 84 patrol officers will use those on city streets. officials say the old ones often malfunction, aren't so reliable, no word on when those new cameras are going to be issued. happening today, the hearing for a napa high school football quarterback accused of hazing is expected to continue. johnny torres has been out of school for ten weeks now and faces a year expulsion. he is one of eight jv football players accused in an aeltd hazing incident last october as first reported by our i-team. torres made his case to stay in school. >> i wasn't aware of a hazing ritual and i had no intentions of hazing or pinning him down or dragging or any of those allegations. >> the school board could vote on the expulsion tomorrow night. caltrans hopes to try and

start demolishing the crumbling pfeiffer canyon bridge today. you might remember this attempt earlier this week. caltrans needs to get new parts so the crane can drop a wrecking ball that has enough force to break up the bridge. heavy storms and mudslides damaged its supports beyond repair and it cut off hundreds of residents. a stretch of highway 1 north of the bridge has reopened. that happened just last night after it was deemed safe. that restores access between monterey and pfeiffer beach. the price of beer is going down at the coliseum, according to the san jose mercury news. all premium and craft 20-ounce beers will be $10 and all 20-ounce domestic drafts will cost you $8. these are apparently the lowest price beers of any bay area pro teams. there will also be 40 new or improved food options and food trucks on site. one of the best chefs in the bay area and the world hung out with jimmy kimmel last night. chef thomas keller from

along the coast, some of this is spilling across the bay but not hitting our reporting stations but it is in the bay so be aware of that. two miles in petaluma, quarter mile up at the airport and santa rosa. here's a look at san rafael, you can see off in the distance as we look south, fog down there. just checked the golden gate bridge, not fogged over but patchy fog there also. stray shower possible across the north bay this evening. warmth will return as quickly as tomorrow, hang around through saturday and then an unsettled pattern will begin sunday with cooler weather and several chances of rain but right now no atmospheric weather for next week. north bay, clouds increase this week. stray shower possible and it's going to be after the evening commute begins so you can see by 9:00, the fog is thickest and then starts restreeting while the clouds come in from the north. by 7:00, scattered showers start to roam through the north bay and then tomorrow we wake up to cloudy conditions. increasing sunshine tomorrow. a little bit warmer with more

sunshine for st. patrick's day friday pretty nice saturday, a chance of rain sunday, monday, and tuesday. right now it's light on our storm impact scale. and a quick check of traffic here this morning. when i came in, we had golden gate bridge just totally socked in and chp had issued a dense fog advisory. looking at it right now, not too bad so we could have patchy fog out there for the morning commute and it is thick in some areas. i have the visibility layer on top of the traffic maps, the brighter the white, the denser the fog. check this out. gilroy, morgan hill, we are really socked in so you know the rule here. when you've got that dense fog in that low visibility, you've got to increase that following distance so you can just have better reaction time. if you are in san jose, we're not seeing any and overall you are wide open there, no incidents to report. just a slight delay there northbound 101 as you get past the 280/680 split. next traffic update coming up before 5:30. next, the seven things you need to know as you start your day. day. plus a little bit of

going on. the fog, we talked about it, it's back, three quarter mile visibility half moon bay, a quarter in santa rosa, two in petaluma, there is fog around the bay. it's just not hitting anything of the reporting stations. in fact, you can see it kind of across the golden gate bridge as it slides into the bay. i'll show you some other camera as we move through this half hour. pretty mild this morning. stay in the upper 50s at the coast, low to mid 60s at noon and then mid to upper 60s for us at 4:00. we'll talk about that chance of rain in the north bay. we have one new minor issue this morning. it just came in for the santa cruz mountains area so southbound highway 17 just before you get to red wowood estates, sounds like we have a vehicle that spun out and is facing the wrong way, hanging over into the far right lane there just slightly so i'm not seeing any backup yet and of course the southbound side that is the lighter side of traffic this time of day so i don't think that will cause a big backup. we are mostly in the green.

it has been a really quiet start. and developing news now, we know more this morning about what happened at an officer-involved shooting that left a woman dead, two detectives hurt and one man still on the loose. the wild scene happened near the cal state east bay. abc7 news reporter matt keller live for us in hayward this morning. >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. people driving to cal state east bay will find this all along their route to the campus this morning. crime scene tape and it's here, it's across the street here, and across the street here at oaks drive and campus drive. they have an apartment complex blocked off there. all of this as we've learned new information this morning about what exactly happened here. now, this is all according to hayward police. they say fremont police detectives stopped the stolen vehicle that was wanted in connection with multiple arms robberies in fremont and the bay area. this was at the city view apartment complex on carlos bee boulevard. police say the suspect vehicle with four people inside rammed

the detectives' vehicles, injuring the two detectives. those detectives fired at the suspect vehicle, hitting a female passenger. the vehicle took off and ended up crashing near campus drive and oaks drive where we're at right now. one suspect got out and ran off. a second female and another male occupant were arrested. the female who was shot by detectives was taken to the hospital where she ended up dying from hir injuries. s.w.a.t. teams searched the area. students at nearby campus housing complexes were told to shelter in place. >> i was just in my room waiting for my class and then i just heard the gunshots outside. i thought it was just crazy, so i went up in the window and i saw the cops going up in the hill, going really fast and i sam some ambulances doing down the hill. it was crazy. >> reporter: the classes were not interrupt but many roads to campus were blocked off. hayward police has taken the lead in this investigation and we are expecting to learn more about it later today. reporting live in hayward, matt

keller, abc7 news. 5:32 now. an east bay school may be dealing with a norovirus outbreak. dublin unified confirms at least one student at dublin elementary has been diagnosed with norovirus. another three dozen were out yesterday with symptom of the stomach flu. the school has told parents and deep cleaned the campus over the weekend. the district is encouraging parents to keep students home at least two full days after symptoms have ended. happening today the fbi in san francisco will discuss charges in connection to those mass massive hacks on yahoo. four people with suspected ties to russia are going to be charged, three in russia, one in canada. now the fbi expects to arrest the suspect in canada. right now, they don't have access to the suspects in russia. sunnyvale-based yahoo has been hit by two large breaches with data stolen from an estimated 1.5 billion accounts. also new details this morning on the controversy surrounding president trump's leaked tax returns. the white house downplaying the 2005 returns this morning.

the white house does confirm that these are real. the documents show the billionaire paid $38 million in taxes on an income of more than $150 million so do the math. that's about a 25% tax rate, which is slightly lower than average. rates as well as mortgage and home equity loans. experts say this could be the beginning. the central bank has signalled it could raise rates two more times this year. work expected to begin today to repair a reservoir near tracy. they're going to temporarily shut down a pump to repair an intake structure. do not worry, customers will not have their water cut off. water from the reservoir is sent to 19 million customers in southern california, silicon valley, and the san joaquin valley. marin county officials now estimate the winter storms caused nearly $10 million in damage to public property. the county has identified 24 locations that suffered damage from flooding and landslides. the county is pursuing financial aid from the state and washington but the process could take years. marin county will likely have to cover the repair costs up front. 5:35 now. happening right now, much of the northeast will continue cleaning up from the monster storm. it actually made ha surprise

turn inland and brought the heaviest snowfall to upstate new york and morning new england so take a look. this is a sight you don't often see. heavy snow even fell along the beach in north hampton, new hampshire. many places in the northeast seeing one to two feet of snow. officials are concerned that falling temperatures will lead to icy conditions on roads and sidewalks. major cities like philadelphia, new york, and boston were spared the worst of it. want to go down the crookedest street that we have? you might have to pay for it soon. the county transportation board has signed off on a study to find ways to reduce traffic on this stretch of lombard street. one proposal would require visitors to make a reservation and pay a fee to drive down the street. people who don't have a reservation would pay more for the toll. about 2 million tourists visit the windy stretch every year. the people who live there say they are tired of the crowds and the chaos this all brings. the possible recall for santa clara county judge aaron persky has been postponed

next june. this according to the bay area news group. persky sparked nationwide outrage last year when he sentenced former stanford swimmer brock turner to six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. the main reason for the delay is money. the cost of the special recall election this november would be about $6.8 million. the cost of putting it on the primary ballot next june would be $576,000. happening today, the uc board of regents is scheduled to discuss the potential impact of proposed federal changes to obamacare on uc medical centers. earlier this week, uc berkeley university health services spokeswoman said students under the student health insurance plan would not be affected if obamacare is repealed. also today, the uc regents are expected to be updated on cal's housing situation. uc berkeley has the smallest percentage of available beds in the entire uc good morning, north bay,

thanks for being here. it is 5:42. take a look at these surveillance images just released by santa cruz police. investigators say the suspect walked into the u.s. bank on morrissey boulevard, threatened employees with a gun and took off with cash. so not a good description of him but we know that they were in a jeep grand cherokee that was made between 1993 and 1998. the vehicle is tan or champagne colored. it has a roof rack and tinted windows. naked intoxicated man faces charges. he told authorities he was searching for a wishing well. rescuers had to break open a wall to get him out. napa pd posted some photos so you can see how narrow that shaft is. he was there overnight monday into tuesday, apparently got on to the roof and forced a door

panel open. construction workers heard him yelling for help and led rescuers to him. a shot from sky7 gives you better perspective of where that shaft door is in relation to the store. the 48-year-old man was found in minor injuries. he now faces charges of burglary and parole violation. marine experts are going to be back in vacaville this morning. they're hoping to capture a sea lion that doesn't want to be caught. >> somehow, that little sea lion made it all the way to ulatis creek from san francisco bay. it spent most of yesterday there. but look it's slipping into an underground culvert because it doesn't want to be caught. crews tried to use blow horns and tried flushing the canal with water to get him out. they sent down a little camera robot. >> this sea lion cannot be bothered. >> he's like, i don't know what you guys are up to. >> they were not ever able to spot him underneath the culvert and as you can imagine, he created quite the stir with local hopefuls trying to catch a glimpse of him.

and some of the moisture that's falling from them is really right now starting to head more toward the northwest northeast but there's more moisture that's brighter whiteness, that's going to wrap around and bring that slight chance. clouds on the increase, especially in the north bay. least amount of sunshine. you have a chance of a stray shower or two but it will drop less than 1/10 inch of rain t. fog gets thickest by 9:00 and starts retreating or becoming hazy sunshine and then the high clouds start taking over during the afternoon hours. all the way through 7:00 it's pretty dry in the north bay so we get finished with the evening commute and then a chance of scattered showers but by 7:00 tomorrow morning it's all gone. there could be a little bit of drizzle in this morning commute so places may get wet tomorrow morning but for the most part we're going to be dry. a little warmer for st. patrick's day, pretty mild saturday and then the rain pattern begins with a light storm on our storm impact scale sunday, monday, tuesday. i do have an update on the

bay bridge situation. we thought it was a disabled vehicle. now it's sounded like it is a collision and this is westbound 80, of course, the upper deck there just as you get past the tunnel reportedly the left lane is blocked. chp was dispatched to the scene. i'm justice seeing something about them moving the harrison off ramp so i'm hoping that means they cleared it very quickly. not a huge backup but you are feeling that impact. westbound 80, in the green there but 12 across the bay bridge because of that issue. and southbound 101, san francisco to sfo, you're still in the green there at 9 minutes and check this out. the fog is back for golden gate. that is the only place we have a dense fog advisory by chp. slow down, take it easy this morning. plans to revitalize pier 29 in san francisco get the green light from the city but there's a catch. new at 6:00, why part of the pier is going to have to remain empty. but first, mark zuckerberg thought it was a good day to let dale earnhardt jr. take him for dale earnhardt jr. take him for a ride

. this next story centers around one fast food worker whose drive through service went well beyond the call of duty. >> this was a typical work duty until an off duty miami-dade police officer pulled up to the window. he found her trying to catch her breath. she had passed out. her foot slipped off the brake. look at that. he jumps through the drive through window to help out. the officer's suv stopped when it hit a curb. the next customer in line happened to be a paramedic. he performed cpr before the paramedics who were an duty arrived and took her to a

hospital. we're waiting to hear thousand offic -- how the officer is doing. and i also want to show you some great video that just came into our live desk. it's an amazing rescue caught on tape. a chopper rescue. this video from the u.s. customs and border protection. it's a black hawk helicopter to be exact. they responded to reports of a hiker in distress and when rescuers got there, look at this from that eye-witness view there. they found a man inside a ravine, were able to get him on to that gurney and he was lifted to the helicopter, taken to the hospital for treatment. remarkable to see that point of view of that rescue. natasha, reggie, back to you. a record number of people visited national parks last year and most of them came to the bay area. new figures from the national park service show the golden gate national recreational area was the most visited national park last year. more than 19 million people came to explore the 83,000 acres in
