drive and ava court at 1:30 this afternoon near the campbell border. it came to an end at stevens creek boulevard about 30 minutes later. janine della vega is live at the scene. you're telling us this chase was pretty dramatic, right? >> reporter: dan, police say that the man that they shot at is in the hospital right now. he is suffering from life-threatening injuries. he was in a pickup truck that is behind all the patrol cars that you see that is here on stevens creek boulevard, which is shut down from cabot to lawrence expressway. now, here is some video taken just after the shooting took place in the safeway parking lot on stevens creek. a witness took this video of police surrounding that black pickup truck that the suspect was in. police tell us that around 1:30, someone called 911 to say a naked man was in the street acting erratically. when officers arrived, he jumped in the black truck. police started chasing him.
5:01 pm
they say he rammed into a patrol car during that pursuit. he also crashed into another vehicle and just kept on driving. the truck somehow became disabled and it rolled into the safeway parking lot here on stevens creek and stopped. sometime during all of this, officers fired shots. here's what a police sergeant told us a short time ago. >> our officers attempted to make the car stop and take the suspect into custody. during that encounter, multiple officers fired at the suspect. he was struck at least once. the suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital and he is listed with life-threatening injuries. >> reporter: as you heard, the police sergeant say multiple officers were involved. we're not sure exactly how many fired shots and how many shots really were fired. we know the truck from the video that we took from sky 7 as well
