>> he throws into the end zone, touch down san francisco! you probably know him from the most famous play in 49ers history, but tonight sad news from 49er with dwight clark. he announced he still als. i'm elk keller in for eric thomas. first, we're tracking the return of rain. let's get to meteorologist drew tuma. >> find that umbrella once again. live doppler 7 showing we have green on the screen. next storm system beginning to move on shore. and it will impact your monday and also your tuesday. storm impact sail it's a one. we'll track light showers through area in the next 48 thundershowers. tuesday morning a chance of thunder. an even stronger storm is going to soak the region on friday.

we'll go hour by hour on future weather coming up in the accuweather forecast. >> back to our top story tonight. one of the 49ers all-time greats, dwight clark, announced tonight he's been diagnosed with als, also known as lou gehrig's disease. in 1982 it helped the 49ers get to the team's first super bowl this catch. now he has his 49ers jersey retired. he said today in an open letter he started experiencing the symptoms of nails his left hand back in 2015. clark wrote, i can't run, play golf, or walk distances. picking up anything over 30 pounds is a chore. the one piece of good news is that the disease seems to be progressing more slowly than in some patients. he went on to say he's wrapping the head around the challenge, the only thing syni'm going to fight like hell and live every day to the fullest.

going through with a lawsuit with the nfl. maybe you can explain some of that, what that's like. i know dwight clark football said there's something to do with the diagnosis. >> he's not sure but he thinks it probably does. we're all dealing with neurologists now. we're all finding out what we're going to be dealing with down the line. i said it earlier in our 30s we talked about the glory days, the 50s we can't remember anything, and in the 60s we're dealing with a lot of this. he needs to be one of the hall of famers is dealing with it first. >> you know him as an athlete, as a friend. how is he going to deal with this diagnosis? >> he's one of the most determined guys i've ever met. he's got a hall of fame background, players, teammates, and a lot of guys are going to help him, and his dear wife,

kelly. he's a determined guy. i would say this version of als is going to have a battle in itself trying to deal with dwight he knows what's coming and it's going to be interesting to see how he reacts to all the attention he's going to get. they put letter out. he told me he was going to do it a couple weeks ago. throw out a prayer. dwight, i love you like a brother, you know it. i'm there for you. if you get a chance, say a prayer for dwight. >> thank you. we appreciate your perspective on this. i know a lot of players are coming out and making statements as well including joe montana. tonight we spoke with a professor of neurology at ucsf. it affects one in one hundred thousand people and is not genetic. doctors still don't know what

scene. lilian? >> matt this happened near the west entrance of capitola mall. police say they received 911 call this afternoon from a woman worried about her husband and eight-year-old daughter. the father and daughter stepped outside after shopping at which point her husband was threatening suicide. when officers arrived, they found father and daughter with gunshot wounds inside their black kia sol. 1968, shot and killed his daughter before turning the gun on himself. >> the officers with assistance reviewed the subjects from the car in the hope of performing life-saving measures and tragically they were not able to save the life of the two individuals. they were declared deceased at the scene. >> 1968, was 36 years old. capitola has a very small

population of about 10,000 people. this town rarely sees gun violence. the police chief believes the last time there was a homicide was back in the earlier 2000s. >> thank you, lilian. it's been three and a half months since the deadly ghost ship fire that killed 36 people, and we still don't know if official cause. there was a three week delay in getting the report to the alameda district attorney's office. tonight the mayor of oakland tells abc 7 news the city has turned over the report. afbsz reporter sergio join us with the report. >> i talked with the mayor by phone. a full version of the report was delivered to the district attorney's office late yesterday. but there's still questions about why the city attorney had the report first and for so long before it got to prosecutors. >> that delay in dloifrg report

to the d.a.'s office is raising questions in the legal community. >> why was that report given over to the city attorney and twhierms city attorney hold on to that report for at least three weeks? >> retired . >> abc 7 news obtained these e-mails from late february where the deputy district attorney suppress the city got the reporter before the d.a.'s office did. >> if charges are filed any good defense attorney is going to jump aufrtsds. this is that is the delay and what is going on with this report. >> in an e-mail from deputy d.a. limb from city attorney parker, he says his office have everything on this case, they

san francisco based uber is dealing with yet another controversy tonight. six months after joining the company, its second highest executive has resigned. jones's decision comes after a series with problems within the company. starting last december when when a self-driving car was caught cc running a red light in san francisco. last month uber launched an investigation after a former uber engineer blogged about sexism and sexual harassment including being asked to have sex with a manager. right after that, the company's ceo was caught on camera yelling at one of his own drivers over the company lowering its rates. >> you know what? >> what? >> some people don't like to

take responsibility. >> he apologized and promised to get leadership help. he planned on hiring a chief operating officer. in a note he said jones's decision is because of that announcement. in a statement, the tech website recode, he said it is now clear pthe beliefs and approach to leadership that have guided my career are inconsistent with what i saw at usual and i can no longer serve the business. >> he released this statement tonight. it says we want to thank jeff for his six months at the company and wish him all the best. new at 11:00, pack of motorcyclist eastbound on the bay bridge. officers tried to pull at least 30 of them over but they took off. they were able to track them down later using an airplane.

officers arrested one person and seized two dirt bikes and two a tvs. there could be more arrests. we're hearing from one of the women asked for proof of residentsy before being served at a huntington beach restaurant. this happened at the saint mark public cafe. the one way or the other asked to see group's ids to make sure they were from here or they couldn't serve them. >> i said, did he really just ask me this? >> i got chills through my entire body. i was in a complete state of shock. i think we all were. >> she and her friends complained to the manager and walked out. the restaurant has since fired the one way or the other and apologized saying his behavior is not representative of the brand and will not be tolerated. the clock is ticking for answering bay area families to hear if their kids will get the school of their choice. a glitch at san francisco

from the school district that he has an assignment within the sfusd. >> parents can chews from 130 schools in the district. this year there's 14,000 applications. staffing mrjsz have delayed the process. this notice was posted on the district's website. the assignments would be late. >> our computer system is working fine. it's just taking a little bit longer to go through all the dhoeks make sure severing accurate. >> there's no guarantee families will get their school of choice, even if that school is in your neighborhood. >> do you have any other options? >> private school or moving out of the city. >> the waiting continues. in san francisco, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. no easy task for caltrans crews in monterey county. this weekend they demolished the canyon bridge near big sur. they tried to use a wrecking ball but it didn't have enough

roger federer facing his countrymen. hits it long here. first broken serve of the event. but you can't break a breaker. roger comes back with a phenomenal forehand downto the line. he's not wawrinka on the run. that puts away the forehand volley. record tying fifth indian wells title. oldest champion in the event's history and it's his 90th career title. finally my dear friend and former teammate dwight clark revealed he's been diagnosed with lieu gehrig gehrig's disease. he's one of the most determined men i know and will battle this disease with the help of his friends and dear wife, kelly. tonight we go back to 1979 when he was drafted out of clemson.

i let spike the ball. we won a super bowl together and that bond sticks with you for life. we talked last week and he's ready to battle the disease with everything he has. he has the support of all his teammates and his wife, kelly. unfortunately for all of us this may be the manifestation of concussions and hits accumulated over the years, and it's not something any of us look forward to. but like all great ones, it's another battle in life to overcome which is what sports taught us all of the time i would say this version of als is in for a battle against dwight clark. d.c., i love you like a brother. sending my love and prayers to number 87. i'll see you in a couple weeks. we were talking earlier, this is how giving us he is.
