through 7:00. then they're going to pick up overnight through tomorrow. i'll show you an hour by hour look at that and put the storm impact scale on all the chances of rain coming up. >> thank you. work is finally underway now to fix problems inside the eastbound side of the bay bridge tunnel. >> it was january of 2016 when a huge chunk of concrete fell on the roadway. abc 7's amy hollyfield is live at the bridge with what is being done to fix the problem. >> hi, reggie. see these cars leaving the tunnel? those are the people headed to oakland that they are trying to prote protect. a chunk of concrete and a car ran into each other last year. it caused $3,000 damage to the car but the driver was okay. the concrete fell from the eastbound direction tunnel. according to the "san francisco chronicle," repair work is underway to make sure it doesn't happen again. caltrans will work on potentially hundreds of corroded spots in the tunnel. they are doing the work during the day.

right now, all lanes are open. you could experience some lane closures later during the day. this will take some time. it could last until june. they think it is going to cost more than $1 million. caltrans says it doesn't think all the corroded spots pose a threat. they are going to repair all of them anyway. pointing out, this bridge is about 80 years old. it is the busiest bridge in the bay area. they're going to tackle this spot. reporting live from the bay bridge, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. treat boulevard is open in concord after a woman was found lying in the street unconscious overnight. it is not clear if the victim was hit by a car near san siemian drive or if she suffered another injury. we're waiting for an update on her condition. police in the south bay investigating a burglary suspect taken into custody overnight. officers arrived to a building on patrick henry drive in santa

clara after 11:00 last night. police called in a helicopter and canine unit to help with the search for the suspect ft he . s he was found inside the building. unclear what he was trying to take. the man was arrested. 49ers fans are dealing with the news this morning that one of the team's most iconic players, dwight clark, is battling als, known as lou gehrig's disease. clark will be linked to this moment, of course. the catch in january 1982. joe montana finding clark in the end zone to cap this come from behind win against the cowboys in the nfc championship game. clark's catch propelled the 49ers to their first super bowl championship. clark played nine years for san francisco and now he suspects playing football may have led to his disease. clark described what he's faced since 2015 in a statement. quote, i can't run, play golf or walk any distances. picking up anything over 30 pounds is a chore. the one piece of good news is that the disease seems to be progressing more slowly than in some patients.

while i'm still trying to wrap my head around the challenge i will face with this disease over the coming years, the only thing i know is that i'm going to fight like hell and live every day to the fullest. ourmatt, played on the team with clark. he shared insight with matt keller. >> you know him as an athlete and friend. how is he going to deal with the diagnosis? >> he is one of the most determined guys i've ever met. dwight is going to take this on. he has a hall of fame background of players, teammates and a lot of guys are going to help him through it. and his dear wife, kelly. he is in for the battle of his life but he is a determined guy. i'd say this version of als is going to have a battle in itself, trying to deal with dwight. we throw out a prayer. dwight, i love you like a brother. you know it. i'm there for ya. if you get a chance, say a prayer for dwight. >> in a statement, joe montana said, jennifer and i are saddened by the diagnosis of dwight. this is a difficult time for

dwight kelly a dwight, kelly, and all of us who love him. >> we also have the full statements from the team and als resources on the website. the stage is set for what could be a fiery showdown today on capitol hill. fbi director james comey will testify before congress and is expected to dispute president trump's allegations of wiretapping by president obama. comey's testimony is part of an investigation into how russia interfered with last year's presidential election. and to address the lingering question of whether anyone on the president's team may have helped. another big issue on capitol hill today is the republican health care plan. it is headed for a vote later this week. house speaker paul ryan says he will compromise to get more coverage for seniors. many moderate republicans expressed fear the plan is too harsh on older people. seniors who are not eligible for medicare stand to be the biggest losers. the bill faces challenges from moderates and conservatives in both houses of congress.

president trump's supreme court pick will be on capitol hill for the first of his confirmation hearing. neil gorsuch could be in for intense questioning. the president picked the judge to replace the late justice antonin scalia. opening statements will be heard from senators and gorsuch. tomorrow is the questioning tarm. the senate is expected to vote on the nomination next month. california senator diane feinstein is labeling gorsuch as an extremist on issues like worker protection and reproductive rights. f feinstein's office said gorsuch has sided with employers and corporator sbess. the senator's office claims his record on cases involving birth control show president trump is keeping his promise to choose a pro-life extremist. >> announcer: a live desk update from abc 7 mornings. >> the government of england is set to launch its exit from the european union next wednesday. this follows the brexit election when a narrow majority of

police say the suspect made a hole in the window of a jewelry store with a hammer but couldn't fit through it to escape. the fire department was called in to help free him before officers finally arrested him. police searched his home and found other stolen items, too. he is expected to appear in court today. >> i'm sorry but that is kind of hilarious. >> yeah. an internet media company is reporting data from customers of saks fifth aftvenue was there a for the taking. e-mail addresses, ids and products were in plain text on the store's server. anyone could have accessed the data. normally, you'd expect that to be encoded to prevent hackers from stealing it. the store took the data down while it works on a solution. time to ask finney. nolan from los angeles has a question about estate sales. getting choked up thinking about it. he asked the question in daly city. >> i'm having an estate sale for

the team's first super bowl. clark became a pro bowler and now has his 49ers jersey retired. he said in an open letter, he started experiencing the symptoms of als in his left hand back in 2015. in that open letter, clark wrote, what i do know is that i have a huge battle in front of me, and i'm grateful for the strength and unconditional love from my wife, kelly. we did speak with the professor of neurology at ucsf who told us that als is a rare disorder that affects the nerves and muscles. while clark suspects football may have caused the disease, it is unknown. >> there is a theory that trauma may be a risk factor for als, and there's increasing evidence for that. more research definitely needs to be done. certainly, there's a lot of trauma with sports. there's a lot of trauma in the military. >> 49ers president jed york released a statement saying, quote, i was deeply saddened to

unole are gathering clues to an unfathomable tragedy. a man shot and killed his 8-year-old daughter and turned the gun on himself. it happened around 3:15 yesterday afternoon. police say a family outing at the mall turned deadly. >> we know at this point, the family was together in the mall for a period of time. at which point, the father walked outside for a while with the 8-year-old daughter. the mom was concerned, as i mentioned, that he was potentially suicidal. so she called for the police. >> when police arrived, the mom and family members led them to a black kia where both bodies were found. authorities are trying to find out what triggered the violence. the clock is ticking for thousands of anxious bay area families waiting on pins and needles to hear if their kid got into the school of their choice. a glitch at san francisco unified is presenting the assignments from being mailed out for at least 14,000 students. abc 7 news is told staffing emergencies delayed the process. letters are expected to go out

initiative. that's a non-profit group that works to prevent attacks with weapons of mass destruction. brown joined the board in january. new details on the shakeup at uber just hours after the company's president resigned yesterday. its vice president of mapping also announced plans to step down. the "new york times" reports mcclendon is going to leave on march 28th. he will stay on with the company as an adviser. his move comes after we learned jeff jones is stepping down as p. he's been there for six months. jones's decision comes after a series of problems within the company. that includes company ceo travis kalanick caught on camera yelling at one of his own drivers over uber lowering its rates. >> what? >> what? >> some people don't like to take responsibility for -- >> [ bleep ]. >> kalanick apologized and promised to get some help. an e-mail to employees said jones did not see a future at uber after kalanick announced he is searching for a new chief operating officer. uber released this prebrief

download it now. new this morning, a chase in the east bay caught on video. we're told the driver led chp officers toon a high speed purst through hayward. he refused to pull over all the way to san jose. witnesses say the pursuit was called off when the suspect hit the surface streets. we have reached out to chp for more details and are waiting for word. chp officers tracked down and arrested a pack of reckless atv riders on the bay bridge. the chp shared photos on the facebook page. at least 30 riders took off after officers tried to pull them over. officers used an airplane to track them down. one was arrested, two dirt bikes and two atvs were seized. we understand there could be more arrests. the arrests last night come almost two weeks after this happened. an uber driver was assaulted on highway 101 in san francisco. he was surrounded by bikers on march 9th. broke out the windows and broke

his nose and leg. so far, no arrests there have been made. if you're driving east through the bay bridge tunnel over the next couple months, be ready for construction. >> more than a year after a big chunk of concrete fell from the tunnel ceiling, caltrans is working on a fix. amy hollyfield is live at the bridge this morning. amy? >> hi, reggie. as you drive through the tunnel, you're probably not thinking of what it is made of. this is an 81-year-old concrete tunnel. it was built in 1936. last year, it started falling apart. a chunk of concrete fell, causing $3,000 worth of damage to a car. the driver of the car was okay. according to the "san francisco chronicle," caltrans has now started repairing potentially corroded spots in the tunnel. this is the eastbound section of the tunnel. the lower level headed toward oakland. they do need to shut down some lanes while they work. they are doing that during the day time. you will see these lane closures

thrugh the spring. they're saying this work might take until june. it is going to cost more than $1 million. caltrans said it did some x-ray work of the tunnel after it started crumbling last year. they determined it is safe, but they found 200 spots that could potentially be dangerous. they are now doing the repair work. pointing out the tunnel's age and the fact that it is the busiest bridge in the bay area. they say drivers through here are safe. they have already chick chipped the cracked and crumbled concrete. they're doing this preventative repair work now. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. the alameda county district's office is expected to release more information today about an investigative report on the ghost ship fire that killed 36 people. there was a delay in getting the report to the d.a. a retired supreme court judge is asking why the report wasn't
