is tracking a new round of rain set to hit the bay yare tonight. >> and here's a live look outside. expect a soggy start to tomorrow morning's commute. i'm ama daetz. >> and i'm dan ashley. let's get trastraight to sandhy patel. >> take a look at live doppler 7 because the rainfall is intensifying right now. i'm going to take you to street-level radar. let's start in the east bay around forest knolls. 1.44 inches per hour. this is definitely going to be heavier rain, and as i track it for you, it is heading toward woodacre and it's lighter in intensity around the oakland, alameda area into piedmont. that is going to change as we are tracking off the coastline southwest of the bay area,

crime scenes here. the first one in this parking lot where the man confronted his ex-wife. the second, about a block in this direction, where he ran, where he ultimately shot himself and died. people working in the seaport business center in redwood city heard the shooting but didn't know it. >> some kind of fireworks. or a loud noise that we didn't know what it was. >> maybe one in the labs there was a small explosion or something. >> reporter: he knew it was something serious. >> i saw a cop with a gun, and they were pointing in that direction, and within like five, ten seconds, i heard a pop. >> reporter: just before 2:30, redwood police got a 911 call from a woman who said that her ex-husband showed up at her workplace and was chasing her with a gun. >> there's a shot that's fired that you can hear on the tape. >> reporter: the woman was not hurt. the deputy chief says there was

a brief negotiation, but the man pointed his gun at officers. >> one of our officers fired one round, and we believe he discharged a round at himself into his face. >> reporter: police say the self-inflicted wound killed the man. it's not clear if the officer's shot also hit him. according to police, the woman had a restraining order against her ex-husband. officers had made contact with him three times this month for domestic violence-related issues. at one point, they confiscated all the weapons registered in his name. katie marzullo, abc 7 news. we have new details on a kidnapping and extortion plot that ended at this bank. we're hearing from the elderly man who was the victim of this terrifying ordeal. >> cornell bernard spoke to him and joins us live with the story. >> reporter: luckily, richard russell wasn't hurt during their strange kidnapping case. he has a pretty good sense of

humor about the whole ordeal. >> he actually seemed more nervous than i was. >> reporter: 75 year old richard russell tells us a bizarre tale of how he was kidnapped by a man dressed as a construction worker who showed up on his doorstep tuesday morning. >> i opened the door, and he had a blowtorch. and he had this pry bar. >> reporter: there was a struggle. >> he kept saying get down, get down, get down, and i thought, no, i'm not going to get down. so we started struggling. >> reporter: russell got these cuts when the suspect tried and failed to tie him up. >> he took a shotgun that i have, and i said, well, there's a shotgun, but there ain't bullets for it. >> reporter: the suspect kept apologizing for the crime, he was even courteous. >> he asked me if i wanted a glass of water. >> reporter: the suspect forced russell to drive his own car to chase bank to withdraw cash.

>> when we got to the bank, he said, now, you're going to go into the bank and you're not going to tell them to call the police, i said no. i think it was his first rodeo. >> reporter: police arrested the 26-year-old from pittsburg at gun point. no one had seen the man before. >> it was shocking. scary. that's never, nothing like this has ever happened in this neighborhood. >> reporter: richard russell, a retired civil engineer is able to laugh about the kidnapping. he knows it would have been much worse. cornell bernard, abc 7 news. a man riding a bike died today after being hit by a car. sky 7 was over san jose where you see police at lee avenue and coy drive. part of the road was closed during the investigation, obviously. the driver of the car stopped nearby and is cooperating with police. 647 million dollars is on the line and governor brown is on a quest to get that cash for

who grabbed a die ploppamond an. the men asked to see a diamond, grabbed it and ran off and dropped it. after grabbing it off the ground, he and a woman ran out the door. crime stoppers is offering a reward for help finding the thieves. a couple in the spotlight is now going public with good news. this weekend they got engaged. they shared these pictures publicly on facebook. they first appeared publicly together in 2015 after huskens was kidnapped. at one point, police thought this was a hoax. the kidnapper was sentenced to 40 years in prison last week. the worst flooding in decades in peru has killed at least 70 people. this driver tried to cross floodwaters near lima. he was able to get out unhurt, fortunately, floodwaters have ripped apart bridges, carried away homes and torn a a a a a aa

>> fla that is intense. take a look at live doppler 7. i'll show you where it is coming down. street level radar. we're going to go in closer to pockets of moderate to heavy rain around san marin drive. as i pan around to other parts there, right around novato we're seeing moderate to light rain. downpours from alameda, 11th avenue, as we go down to the south bay, highway 101. heading into santa clara we're also seeing wet weather. although it's not so heavy right now over san francisco and the peninsula, i do want to show you what's ahead. we are tracking multiple cells here, stronger cells, some heavier rain, and this is what i'm concerned about for your morning commute, so do expect some downpours as we head into the morning. i do want to track some of these cells here so you know where

it's going. this one here, a little bit of heavier activity heading towards daley city, brisbane at 11:39. temperatures in the 50s, 60s. that's about the only thing mild, here's a look at the morning commute. it's going to be a rainy view. thunderstorms are possible. we've seen those multiple lightning strikes, and another moderate storm arrives on friday. this is a 2 on the scale. moderate strength as we head into tomorrow morning. to it is going to and rough morning ride. along with the potential for thunder and brief heavy rain there might be hail as well. do allow extra time for your morning commute. 3:00 a.m., downpours in reds and oranges and yellows. pops of red indicating the rain is going to intensify in the south bay around 5:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m. in the east bay. but still seeing returns that
