good morning, everyone, it's saturday, march 25th. let's start with a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen, looks like the rain moved out. >> good news, we're on our way to a dry day but a few showers into the south bay pushing south and east and we're looking at this system existing. as we good in for a closer look, we have 'few scattered light showers around the san jose area. system really not much left to it. there's some fog from petaluma and five miles in livermore and three miles in san jose. leaving low clouds and navigation a little difficult this morning. cooler conditions upper 40s,

napa 48 and los gatos and 55 in hayward. the next seven days we're almost done with the rain but notice the weekend still has a one on the storm impact scale. that's another wet system heading our way. we'll talk about it in a few minutes. obamacare is the law of the land after the gop pulled its replacement bill. the plan lies squarely with the democrats despite republicans controlling the white house and congress. stephanie ram os has more from capitol hill. >> reporter: lost a huge battle friday. >> i'm disappointed because we could have had it. >> we came really close today but came up short. obamacare is the law of the land and will remain until it's replaced. >> reporter: the speaker and president admitting they didn't have the votes to repeal and replace the affordable care act. the president even agreed to some of their demands that insurance companies would no longer be required to cover basic health services like

maternity care, drug and mental health treatment and even emergency room visits. moderate republicans did not like the cuts and democrats rallied against what they called trump care. >> health care is a right. it is not a privilege reserve for a wealthy few. >> in the end, trux p called off the vote. >> further considering of hr1628 is postponed. >> reporter: that ended a signature campaign promise -- >> you're going to have such great health care at a tiny fraction of the cost and it's going to be so easy. >> the man who wrote art of the deal couldn't close this one. the president now has a dire prediction about what comes next. >> the best thing we can do politically speaking is let obamacare explode and it is exploding right now. >> reporter: after all of this president trump said he learned a lot about the legislative

process and promises to take up the health care bill again. stephanie ramos, abc news. hillary clinton posted a dozen tweets on the topic of health care and longest post the former presidential candidate wre iz writes, the fight isn't over yet, we'll have to push back on future bad ideas and embrace good ones. she's a featured speaker at the professional business women of san francisco and nbc 7 is media sponsor of that event. abc 7 news spoke with the bay area congressional delegation. several of them call this a victory and launching point to improve the affordable care act. abc 7 news reporter melanie wood row has details. >> victory for the american people. >> reporter: local reaction after president donald trump's request, paul ryan pulled the health care off the floor moments before a scheduled vote.

this next week, republicans and democrats will look at the affordable care act and figure out how to fix it. >> melanie woodrow abc 7 news. and there will be full analysis of the health care defeat on this week with george stef nop plous only on abc 7. chp is investigating how a person died open 28280 overn a bod dy was found just before 11:00. a car appeared to hit the victim. all lanes were closed for two hours during the investigation. no word on any suspects there or any other cars involved. in pleasant hill, eight families were displaced after a fire at the apartment complex last night. the contra costa fire department said two units have major damage. electricity and gas had to be shut off, families from all eight units were forced out. no one was hurt and the cause is still under investigation.

and forestville authorities are investigating after a man was shot and killed last night. sonoma county sheriff's deputies were called to a shooting at a home on river road just after 7:00 p.m. the victim was found in the living room and pronounced dead at the scene. the suspect was arrested at the nearby gas station in gernville. two sheriff's deputies crashed on river road while responding to the arrest scene. a motive for the shooting is not known this morning. an east bay man is being held on $14 million bail after police say he monw lefted three underage girl. they arrested gary burbank of discovery bay thursday night. they believe there could be other victims. abc 7 news reporter katy utis has the story. >> reporter: 36-year-old gary burbank targeted teens on social media. deputies arrested him in his discovery bay home. >> wow, amazing how things can happen right underneath your nose and you don't know about

it, you know. >> reporter: neighbors say he kept to himself but deputies found evidence of sexual contact with at least three girls, ages 14 to 16. >> we know one of the victims, they met online and we're still investigating as to what method was used but it was certainly over the internet. >> reporter: facing charges of child molestation and rape and aggravated sexual assault. >> it's really shocking. it's just -- it's such a coward thing and horrible thing to do. >> reporter: a victim came forward on tuesday. and the investigation is preliminary. >> we got the information very quickly. we acted upon it and our detectives are actively working this case as we speak. >> burbank is being held on a $14.2 million bound. in contra costa county, abc 7 news. the man accused of grabbing a 13-year-old girl off the san francisco street is due in court on monday. yesterday 26-year-old lee eigl

was charged with kidnapping and lewd acts. police say he grabbed the girl on wednesday and tried to force her into his car. two bystanders heard the girl's screams and stopped the kidnapping. a case of meningitis is causing concern for high school athletes in the east bay. confirm d case is a swimmer. the infected student took part in a meet last saturday at dougherty valley high school in san ramon with the water polo club. some members of the swim team have been given antibiotics and the infection is not transmitted through the water but through long periods of physical contact. happening today, oakland leaders and raiders fans will rally to show support to keep the team here in oakland. mayor libby shaf says they have a viable plan and wrote a letter to the nfl arguing it has more than $1 million in financing and less debt than the las vegas

delaware to the fulton county airport. witnesses saw the plane spiraling out of control before it crashed. new this morning, las vegas police looking for suspects involved in a burglary that forced them to put the bellagio on lockdown. wearing pig masks just before 1:00 the morning, the store closed when it happen and the store was on lockdown for 30 minutes, they have detained some people but it's unclear if they are suspects. happening in los angeles, thousands are expected to celebrate the lives of carry fisher and debbie reynolds. the event is open to the public but with limited seating. fans will be able to visit their final resting place. todd fisher organized the memorial to honor his sister and mother. the service starts at 1:00 this afternoon in the hollywood

hills. time is running out for dozens of san jose flood victims still living in an emergency shelter. the city has announced plans to close the shelter on april 10th. >> reporter: the city tells us there about 60 people sleeping on cots at the seven trees community center. the plan is not to kick them out but find them better accommodations. cameras are not allowed inside to protect the privacy of the flood victims living there. in another few weeks they'll have to move on again. >> we all recognize that this kind of emergency shelter is not ever intended to be a long-term solution for anybody. >> reporter: the city of san jose has set a target date of april 10th to close the shelter. spokesman davis vosspring says the goal is to get people in more stable housing. >> we're asking our community, particularly the community of property owners and landlords and other parts of our city, can you step up? maybe you have a unit that's

vacant. we're talking dozens of units and we should be able to find ways of making that happen in this city of a million people. >> judith and her family are still not allowed to go inside their rock springs apartment. they were very close to going to the shelter themselves. >> we were going to stay but then we got lucky and my uncle said we could stay at his house. >> reporter: lucky but still not an ideal living situation. >> a two bedroom house, it is kind of crowded. i miss my room. >> reporter: city leaders say while they hope to move into a vacant apartment or hotel, those are still short-term solutions, ultimately they'd like to see flood victims in their own restored owns. abc 7 news. this morning there are more revelations about the ghostship fire that killed 36 people last december. our meeting partner reports the building's owners knew about dangerous electrical problems more than two years before the fire and did nothing to fix them. e-mails obtained by the east bay

at justice her man plaza. >> good saturday morning to you, here's a look at live doppler 7. not rain free yet, we have a system moving south and east of us. we have some fog as well. if we go in closer to san jose, 680 the hills around fremont, a little shower activity and we will be looking at this to just about wrap up within the next hour. the temperatures, look at that, it is chilly in mount deab bro and 50 in lafayette and closer to home, low 40s in santa rosa with mid-50s over in oakland. we will be looking at a pretty nice day today with a lot of sunshine resulting but unfortunately another system on the way. it's a weak one. isolated shower this morning, mostly sunny skies today, we have that to look forward to and showers returning late tomorrow. it's a very, very weak system, you'll see it in just a moment

but the good news first with dry conditions, sunny skies, numbers in the mid-60s for you in fremont. palo alto and san jose, 63 in val val ho. let's look at livermore for you for the week ahead, temperatures should be in the mid-60s this time of year, 64 today, the weak weather system brings a cooler day tomorrow but it will be brighter on monday and check out the temperatures responding to all of the sun throughout the week ahead. we're talking about low 70s here in livermore, we'll have to plan on that after this week system pushes through. we'll have increasing clouds and rain doesn't get here until late. it will be breezy at times and the pavement wet out there. hour by hour you'll notice that we've got clear conditions, looks pretty good, 5:00 tomorrow, the clouds and you'll notice by 5:00 p.m. we've got more rain in the north bay, not quite yet in the east bay valleys or the south bay.

begins at the new warm springs station in fremont. first train is due to arrive at the new station at 7:04 a.m. whether b.a.r.t. continues the push into san jose may depend on a federal grant at a time when washington sees intent on slashing budgets. david lou we shows us the new station and potential heaurdle ahead. >> reporter: an estimated 6,000 to 7,000 passengers are expected to use it weekdays. >> it's much faster living in the community close by to warm springs, a lot faster getting to a b.a.r.t. station and traveling where i need to go. >> reporter: it also brings b.a.r.t. close are and closer to san jose. >> next up will be the opening of the new station here in san jose. but there is growing concern that this could become the end of the line, that a much wished for extension into downtown san jose and to santa clara might be in doubt. the wild card is whether efforts to cut the budget in washington will impact the $1.5 billion in

federal funds needed to do the six mile project. the project is still in the environmental review stage. >> we are hopeful that we have met all of the string ent criteria and we're hopeful that the federal government will continue with this process that we have been long engaged to. >> reporter: the san jose extension is expensive since it involves a five-mile tunnel through the downtown area near is the ap center. just over half of the project cost is coming from local and state sources including two voter approved measure. former congressman honda thinks it could sway washington to say yes. >> we're self-help. the money came out our pockets first, don't you think that's a good deal. >> reporter: in san jose, abc 7 news. >> more than 100 silicon valley business leaders sent a letter to urge trump administration to

reverse the decision on the future of caltrain, to delay the replacement with electric trains. they believe electric trains would speed up the commute and make room for more passengers. happening tonight, several landmarks in san francisco and around the world will go dark in the fight against climate change. the golden gate bridge and trans america pyramid and war field will participate in earth hour. the movement urges people and cities and businesses to turn off lights for one hour to raise awareness of impacts of climate change. the lights will be ought from 8:30 to 9:30 tonight. a center that will look at the good and bad of technology is open in san francisco. yesterday abc news was at the presidio for the launch of the center for the fourth industrial revolution. it will be run by the world economic forum which is known for holding summits with world in switzerland.

was in grave danger by the time he arrived. >> his heart and his lungs had failed and he would have died very quickly. >> reporter: their challenge was to keep him alive long enough to wait for a heart transplant but pushing the stanford team into unchartered territory. the temporary solution was a machine which essentially takes over the function of both the heart and lungs. dr. richard shows us how its typically connected and leaving the patient unable to move around. with abraham's deteriorating condition, they knew that could be trouble. >> patients they don't do well if they are just laying in bed rptd instead he used his own cutting edge technique and connected the echmo directly to his heart by running the tube through his ribs. the result was so successful it allowed abraham to get out of bed and much more. >> we took him outside and that

was the first for us, bringing a patient outside rmt the exercise turned out to be critical ensted of two months, abraham would wait nearly four months for a suitable heart, being kept alived by the echmo. >> as far as i know, one of the longest times in the country being on this type of support. >> reporter: instead of deteriorating, doctors say he actually grew stronger. >> so that when a heart finally became available, he was very strong. he was in the best shape he could be in. >> reporter: abraham received his new heart in december, just in time for his 18th birthday. he's now looking forward to heading home with his mom and pouring his whole heart into his dreams. >> looking forward to college after high school, studying architect. >> reporter: cheryl jennings, abc 7 news. just amazing. doctors say at one point before the transplant he was able to shoot baskets in his room with a small makeshift hoop.
