as well as planned parenthood." they'll seek the support of moderate democrats and he scolded moderate republicans who failed to back the president. >> the fact that some of those members took that and decided not to move forward with it is a real shame and i think the president is disappointed in the number of people he thought were loyal to him that weren't. >> the continuing fallout, a house member has retired from the freedom caucus in the wake of the bill's failure. the freedom caucus. he had planned to vote in favor of the gop legislation. he said leaving the caucus will allow him to be more effective. the head of chicago's police union is set to meet with president trump in washington this week. he mentioned the city's soaring crime rate and alarming spike in murders. the leader is also scheduled to meet with justice department officials following a doj report that found civil rights abuses permeated chicago police force. police in cincinnati are staying mostly tight-lipped

about the search for those responsible for the deadly nightclub shooting. one man was killed early sunday morning at the cameo club when a dispute escalated into a shootout. 15 others were wounded by the gunfire. authorities say there is no link to terrorism, and they are looking into how the firearms made it past security. the scope of the violence caught them by surprise. >> i've been a policeman almost 30 years and seen countless shootings, and many of them were multi-victim, but not 16. i've never been anything like that. >> the club has a history of gun violence. there were two shootings in 2015. the operator calls it senseless. in a statement last night he said "the club will remain closed until investigators are done with their work." let's move to las vegas where a couple incidents led to a chaotic weekend there. left a tourist to that city dead. marci gonzalez is in vegas with the details.

before he finally surrendered. >> to think something like this could happen any day is unreal. >> reporter: and a scare for other tourists hours earlier at the bellagio. three suspects wearing animal masks captured on camera making their get away after police say they smashed their way into this rolex store pulling off a high-end heist. and police are still looking for two of those suspects and say these cases are in no way connected. marci gonzalez, abc news, las vegas. turning now to the severe weather moving across the country, across the south and pushing to the east. >> you can see it on the move. tornados ripping through the southern plains over the weekend, including this one that touched down south of oklahoma city. >> in texas, pounding hail, and this almost nonstop lightning stormer north of dallas. >> and later today the threat stretches across eight states from mississippi into indiana with a few isolated tornadoes.

white house. breaking news now from japan where an avalanche has rocked a ski resort north of tokyo. authorities say it left at least six high school students unconscious. several others are missing. the students were at the resort for a mountain climbing exercise. we'll have updates throughout the morning. across russia tens of thousands of anticorruption protesters flooded streets and hundreds were arrested in moscow. a vocal critic of vladimir putin. the u.s. state department is condemning all of the arrests, calling the tension of potential protesters and journalists an afront to democratic values. the military is investigating a u.s. airstrike in the iraqi city of mosul, blamed for killing at least 100 people, many of them civilians. the u.s.-led coalition said the air strike was aimed at isis fighters and launched at the request of iraqi security forces.

u.s. officials have not confirmed the reports of civilian casualties. and the pentagon has confirmed that another u.s. airstrike was behind the death of a senior al qaeda leader. officials say he was killed in eastern afghanistan last week. and accused of several high-profile attacks, including the 2008 marriott hotel bombing that killed dozens in islamabad. two american service members were among the victims. a nightclub in cincinnati will remain closed until investigators are finished looking into a deadly shooting incident. one man was killed early sunday at the cameo club when a dispute escalated into gunfire. 15 others were injured. authorities say there is no link to terrorism and they are looking into how the firearms made it past security at that club. there were hundreds of people at the club when the shooting started. >> people was running, trampling, i scraped my knees and arms falling on the ground. >> police have made no arrests

so far. they are checking security cameras inside and outside of the club. there were two other gun-related incidents at that club, both of them in 2015. there's word two contractors are under arrest after a frightening incident involving an escalator in hong kong. all of a sudden, the up-mall escalator starts moving in reverse, and it's going at double its normal speed. reports out of china say at least 18 people were hurt. the contractors are reportedly accused of tampering with some of the escalator's parts. how can that happen? >> that is insane, and you know hong kong well. it's known for some of the longest escalators in the world. >> they have fabulous outdoor escalators. >> a system they know very well there. that is something definitely their engineers will be looking into. let's lighten things up a little bit with a reminder that it will be a couple more months before this year's running of the bulls in spain. we have it down in our calendar. for now, we'll have to make do
