live where you live, this is "abc 7 news." >> fire investigators are looking into the cause of a large overnight blaze at a beloved family nursery along the san mateo county coast. thanks for joining us. i'm kristen sze. we're talking about one of the largest nurseries in the bay area. several green house real school destroyed. fortunately no one is hurt. flames broke out at the half moon bay nursery along highway 92. the remote coastal location made firefighters' battle difficult. amy hollyfield live at the scene with the latest. >> reporter: kristen, look at the damage done by this fire. firefighters say it destroyed four greene in half moon bay. these greenhouses were not being used. tey were empty, but you can see

the one next to them does have plants in it and firefighters saved that one. that's where they stopped the fire. fire investigators were out here this morning looking at surveillance video, but they still zodon't know what started the fire. the video helped them determine what time the fire started. it was just before 11:00 last night. it took them about an hour to get it contained and that's because they had trouble getting water to it. it is tucked away at the back of a huge piece of property, filled with greenhouses. as they put it, it is off the beaten path. this is along highway 92 in half moon bay. bay city flowers is renting this property but was not renting these abandoned greenhouses that burned. the property owner who these two belong to was not available to comment. no one was hurt in this fire. now, one worker for bay city flowers told us there has been an issue with homeless people cutting through here to go and camp on the hillside behind the property. we asked firefighters about

this. they say this is all still under investigation. reporting live in half moon bay, amy hollyfield, "abc 7 news." >> thank you. the building involved in monday's deadly blaze in west oakland is set to be demolihed. firefighters say it is too unstable and will be torn down once investigators figure out what caused the fire. four people died in the building on san pablo and athens avenue. it was home to a nonprofit transitional housing program. the red cross has set up a shelter for the dozens of people who were displaced. new details in alameda where pg&e crews decided to deactivate a gas line after it was cut earlier this morning. this is video from the scene around 7:00 this morning. crews were able to plug the gas leak and a shelter-in-place has been lifted. police say the pressurized steel riser that pumps gas was severed around 1:00 a.m. when a car crashed through a fence and slammed into it. the driver suffered minor injuries. only one customer was affected,

and that person no longer uses gas service. so pg&e is just turning the line off. we're also following developing news out of washington d.c. where police are investigating a disturbing incident that prompted a lock down on capitol hill. now, this shows everything is back the normal right now, that's what ear he hearing and everybody is safe, but officers admit they're shaken after a driver rammed her car into a police cruiser and tried to run down several other officers. abc's lawn ah zack reports. >> reporter: a stressful situation at the u.s. capitol today. tourists cleared from the area, capitol office buildings on lockdown. >> visitors along the street were running up the sidewalk, and we heard a shot and a second shot and a third shot. we heard a total of three shots. so it is pretty scary. >> reporter: the call of shots fired came in around 9:30 this morning. >> the united states capitol police officers observed an erratic and aggressive driver. >> reporter: early reports that a female driver struck a capitol police cruiser and tried running

over other officers who were on foot around the capitol compound. capitol hill police opened fire. you can see the car there with windows shattered. >> during the attempt to arrest the suspect, shots were fired. however, no individuals were injured during the arrest. >> reporter: security officials have been on the alert for vehicular attacks, especially around high-profile targets like the capitol. the concern, that would-be terrorists here could try to mirror attacks in nice and london. in this case the initial evidence points elsewhere. >> although preliminary, this incident appears to be criminal in nature with no nexus to terrorism. >> reporter: so far authorities are not saying if necessary have a motive. the fbi has been deployed to the scene to assist. the situation over but the story continuing to unfold. at this point there are no reports of injuries and, again, they do not believe this was terror-related, but security experts tell me at the moment police have to be responding to all possibilities, including that it could be part of a larger coordinated attack.

lan ah zak, abc news capitol hill. new this morning, was over the marina when crews pulled a stolen suv out of the water. no one was inside. it is a brand-new suv with paper plates from a fremont dealership. police spent the morning looking up the new owner after looking up the vin number. investigators believe the vehicle was under water at least an hour before someone called it in. happening today, a big presentation in the south bay of what went wrong, and the lessons learned from last month's devastating flooding disaster in san jose. 14,000 people were forced to evacuate when coyote creek overflowed. some people are still not able to go home. today the santa clara valley water district will be discussing the president's day weekend flood report, but before they get to that they have stirred up controversy. the district sent a letter to the mayor of san jose demanding to know why the city didn't evacuate endangered neighborhoods ahead of the flood. the city says it has already

admitted its mistakes and it is time to move forward. property owners we spoke with say they're not interested in the blame game. >> we should not say who is at fault at this time. and now is the time to help the community. >> today's meeting starts at 2:00 at the water district. people are cleaning up and officials are assessing the damage caused by 14 tornados that tore through texas. severe thunderstorms ravaged the northern and central part of the state last night, spawning the twisters that damaged homes and left more than 200,000 people without power. heavy hail and rain shattering windshields, as you can see here. the frightening sounds of flying debris, howling winds colliding with homes outside of dallas. >> we heard the bang and we could hear the debris. we were fortunate. i think the whole neighborhood was fortunate. we're going to lose a couple of houses but everybody is okay, and that's the main thing. >> and outside of spur, texas three storm chasers were killed

when police say one vehicle collided with another. the weather did not play a direct role in the accident. meteorologist mike nicco is tracking these severe storms and where the threat is right now. let's get to mike for an update. >> the good news, it has dissipated durg the overnight hours and through this morning but we are starting to see redevelopment around houston, galveston and heading towards louisiana. it is around kansas city, where thunderstorms could develop this afternoon. the best chance will be in eastern kansas, oklahoma, western missouri and northwest arkansas. for us we're looking at a gorgeous day. look at this. temperatures will climb another two to six degrees from 70 in san francisco to 79 in antioch. thinking about heading to the coast? temperatures in the mid 60s there, but watch out for rip current and breakers until 6:00 this evening. i will have it coming up in the big forecast, kristen.

>> sounds good. thank you. new details in a pepper spraying incident at the stone's town galleria in san francisco. police are looking for a teenage girl who they say could be the suspect. police say she is between 15 and 17. she walked into a store monday night, pulled out a canister and began spraying an orange substance into the air. 16 people complained about breathing problems and eye irritation after the incident. three had to be hospitalized. happening today, a high-powered lawyer is expected to file a lawsuit on behalf of homeowners of the sinking millennium tower. it is expected to target the developer, millennium partners. last month the hoa board hired dan petrocelli, a well-known trial attorney from los angeles. the homeowners there largely blame the developers and poor design. we are expecting to learn more details about this lawsuit in an announcement at noon. we'll stream it live on "abc 7 news".com and on the "abc 7 news" app. a worng for people who live

now from abc 7, live breaking news. >> and that breaking news is in san francisco. sky 7 is over the scene of a shooting near san francisco's city college. police say one person, possibly two others, have been shot near broad street and plymouth avenue. those streets are closed in both directions right now. you can see no traffic getting by. police are searching that area right now for suspects. avoid the area if you can. we'll keep you updated as more information comes in right here and on the "abc 7 news" app.

new this morning in london, thousands joined british police officers on westminster bridge to pay tribute to the four victims of the terror attack that took place there a week ago today. crowds stood shoulder-to-shoulder to remember the lives lost, including an american from utah. a moment of silence was also held outside of new scotland yard in honor of officer keith palmer who died in the attack. now to an historic moment. great britain starts its exit from the european union today with the delivery of the official letter to brussels. british prime minister teresa may formally presented the brexit letter this morning saying there's no turning back. the u.k. has two years to unwind four-and-a-half decades of e.u. membership and work out its future relationship to the continent. we are learning now how much work there is for lawmakers, things like drafting a new immigration system and how to handle trade, but smaller issues as well like regulating toy safety and what new passports will look like.

♪ in today's morning money report, samsung is rolling out a new galaxy smart phone, its latest attempt to compete with apple. samsung is hoping this one will be a big seller as the company continues to rebound from all of the trouble with its smart phones catching fire. just minutes ago at the top of the hour, samsung released this video giving us a sneak peek at the galaxy s8 and s8 plus. the plus is an upgraded version with 6.2 inch screen. both said to have updated cameras and improved battery life. they are promoting box models have bixby, a bit-in personal assistant with augmented reality

features. they are available for preorder starting tomorrow. you can buy them in stores starting april 21st. tesla is going on a hiring spree, ahead of the launch of its new model 3 sedan. according to "the business journal" the electric carmaker has 3,000 openings at its fremont plant. yes, 3,000. that will bring total employees to 9,300. most of the jobs are expected to be in manufacturing. tesla is expected to start shipping the model 3 later this year. they already have 400,000 preorders. now your accuweather forecast with mike nicco. >> let's open up the weather window on golden gate bridge. doesn't it look gorgeous? this is taken from our central tower camera. what we are seeing are mostly sunny and warmer conditions today. our warmest day so far this week. isolated light showers tonight as we transition to cooler, breezy conditions tomorrow. but then i promise you saturday will be even warmer than today and that warmth will make it to the coast. first things first. if you had heading out right now, 71 in san ramon.

look at antioch, 72 degrees. everybody pretty much in the mid to upper 60s. we have cooler temperatures there, oakland and fremont 62, san mateo 61. half moon bay 67. san francisco the cool spot, 65 degrees, same in san jose. here is a look from the mount. tree pollen, i want to show you. look at all of the trees, oak, pine, mull berry, cedar, my favorite liquid amber and sycamore. if you have allergies or suffer from them, sorry about today. 65 at half monday bay today. san francisco 70. everybody else about 73 to 79 degrees. it is going to be a delightful afternoon if you like to be outside, at least temperature wise. here is a look from emory vil. a little haze out there but nothing to worry about. a lot is pollen and the air stag nating a little bit because of high pressure. 60 at the coast, upper 60s and low 70s around the bay, around 60 at the coast. if you are heading out at 6:00, 58 to mid to upper 60s.

at 8:00 still comfortable, 56 to about 60 degrees. let's look at tonight's temperatures. they will be a little warmer than this morning because of cloud cover, from the upper 40s in cloverdale and santa rosa. rest of us about 50 to 55 degrees. notice the green out there. so let's talk a little bit more about that. the storm is to our north, pretty impressive radar returns but this will lose a lot of moisture by the time it gets to us. admit night, a stray shower. most of the rain to the north. at 2:00 you can see scattered, light showers developing. 4:00 they move into south bay and 7:00 we are starting to see them diminish. by 9:00 they're gone, and by noon the breezes kick in, clouds clear out and temperatures drop about six to ten degrees compared to today. and then it still will be breezy on friday, but those temperatures will start to rebound. as we head into saturday, 70 at the coast, near 80 for the rest of us. another cold front, a dry one that will bring our temperatures closer to normal on monday.
