afternoon, sunny, warm, low '80s inland, around the bay, we will see mid-70s, at the coast, mid- to upper-60s. if you are headed out tonight, you won't need a jacket, temperatures will hover in the upper 60s, you might need one if you are headed to the coast. we got a beautiful day ahead. but there are changes coming up with the 7-day forecast. chris. >> thank you. we have breaking news out of florida this morning the ntsb is at the scene of a deadly plane crash involving two small planes, this happened in the city of edgewater northeast of orlando t. crash happened around 6:00 our time this morning, city officials say the planes were small aircraft with just one person in each plain, killing the two pilots. no one else was hurt. back here in the bay area the chp is investigating how a car slammed into the back of a fire truck, kimming the driver of this white vehicle. it happened on highway 4 near the exit to somersville road. the fire truck was helping to secure another accident scene when the car crashed into the

truck. the firefighters who were in the ladder of the truck have minor injuries. it's unclear whether alcohol or drug play as role in the crash. breaking news now, out of hayward, another driver died after crashing into the back of an unoccupied cal-trans truck. it happened around 3:15 this morning on southbound 880 near wynton avenue where there is ongoing construction t.chp says the driver was speeding and suddenly veered towards the middle then crashed into the parked truck. the impact from the collision sent debris flying, hitting and injuring two construction workers, but they are expected to be okay. developing news now, an amber alert has been issued for two young girls who were abducted by a woman t. girls are of asian descent. on the celeste le la dedescribed as four'6" tall. in the middle is

building shut down months ago. >> you find out there was some aspect that could have been done to rid this fire. >> reporter: in an e-mail dated january 8th, a fire captain noted a fire escape was padlocked h. he recommended they close the building immediately. an e-mail september if february says the building is dangerous! and it noticed unmaintained smoke detectors. the oakland mayor's office released the documents after a report of earlier this week brought the alarming e-mails to light. >> the e-mail that suggests that we consider shutting down the building is one that disturbs me greatly. >> the mayor announced today six more fire inspectors will be hired. and additional training will take place. changes in the works since 36 people died in the ghostship fire, when asked who is responsible for not heeding fire fighter warnings, we are continuing to investigate all of the actions, decisions and communications around this

building. >> reporter: they'll keep allowing this kind of stuff to happen. >> reporter: americmore than 10 people are now displaced. turning to the south bay, authorities are still looking for a gunman armed with a shotgun in santa clara. police say he slot a man in the room at the motel on el camino real just before 8:00 last night t. victim is being treated for serious injuries, police believe only the two men were inside the room, witnesses did not report a fight before the shooting. first, though, a protest, after a racially charged incident on social media at our east bay high school. abc 7 news was at albany high school for a unity rally yesterday afternoon. it came after some students were targeted by racially fuelled posts on instagram. about 100 students and teach herbs came together to sing and comfort each other.

even some that weren't in the schools. >> it's my life's work, to bring children together and to teach them how to get along and to help them solve it. >> the students who created the instagram account have been suspended. this morning, parents of the targeted students will meet with school officials on campus. 8:06 is our time. congressman devin nunes returned home to his district as he faces calls to step aside from the house intel committee investigation into russia's influence over the presidential election. nunes represents the 22nd congressional district, which includes parts of fresno. and has the story. >> reporter: hundreds line the streets where congressman devin nunes was targeting lenders. many see him as keeping president trump from scrutiny over the russia influence.

>> devin nunes' behavior, he is not working for the people. he is working for the president. he is here for us. i feel he is complicit. i feel he's complicit in what's going down. >> reporter: what many feel is going down is an attempt to cover up the russian connection, something nunes denies. >> there is no evidence of collusion with the president of the united states and the russians. >> reporter: there is a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing to it. that's what the people want to know. >> that's correct. we will continue to investigate that. >> reporter: when will your committee get back to business. >> we haven't stopped. >> that is not a true statement. we've had investigators working every single day on this issue. >> reporter: as chairman, nunes cancelled meetings of the committee and a call from most of these protesters was that nunes should remove himself or recuse himself from the proceedings. >> yes, i do. i do. it's a fallacy that he thinks he can be impartial for his

committee. he's already shown that he was tied to the white house for more important. >> the congressman meeting with the banking group was closed to the public. those who attended say he talked about the situation in washington and the valley's water issues. >> very well-spoken. >> reporter: but many of the protesters on the streets say they wish nunes would bar the town hall meeting and talk to them. >> again, that was gene hagenson reporting. nunes was criticized for receiving reports 11 days ago, but not sharing them with his fellow committee members. the top democrat on the committee received the same materials yesterday. shoppers at a wal-mart in student city had a scary moment last night. take a look at this, under surveillance photos show a man in a map armed with a gun. he pulled the weapon during a robbery, then took off running north before police arrived. security evacuated the store for a short time. no one was hurt. happening now, not an april fool's joke, a tax hike is now

in effect for several bay area cities, voters in san jose, pleasant hill, martinez, north and east palo alto agreed to sales tax increases last year, which went into effect at midnight. there are county wide ses.ses.s. >> reporter: the sales tax increases were approved by voters in november. >> yes, okay. >> i was not one of those voters, but it passed. brenda bailey lives in newark and is retiring and leaving california because it's too expensive and getting more expensive every day. >> it was the straw that broke the camel's back, okay, now i'm convinced. >> reporter: susan woodstock is the administrative services director in newark, she says the projected $3.5 million new sales tax revenue will pay for a city hall and news station and library. >> it's way too small for them to do community policing t. library is a huge plus, but our

library is a very well used. and it's small. it can't accommodate a lot. >> reporter: newark's top percent hike brings the sales tax there to 9.75%. in campbell, the rate goes from 8.3 quarters. santa clara is a half point bringing the sales tax to 9%. the president of the silicon voters tax association says higher taxes are bad for business and don't make sense. >> the politicians come to voters and say, okay, we want to increase transportation or we want to help with the homeless or we want to help repair the potholes. our problem is, is that if that is a priority for the politicians, how come it's not in the current budget? >> reporter: across california, voters in 66 cities and counties approved sales tax increases, some as high as a full percentage point. in campbell, abc 7 news. starting today, california's lead tobacco tax is in effect. health advocates say the hefty price of cigarettes may motivate thousands of smokers to quit.

community flew over the castro district. hundreds gathered to mourn the men. gilbert baker passed away at his home in new york. abc 7 news reporter was at the memorial and has this story for us. >> long liver gilbert baker. >> reporter: in honor of gilbert baker, the man that created the iconic gay flag, a group of marchers carried the banner down castro street. it was one of the last creations. in 1978, baker was commissioned by former san francisco supervisors harvey milk to create the flag. gay rights activists shared it at a gathering of 200 people. >> gilbert left him help him dye the fabrics of the first plaque. >> reporter: when he talked to my colleagues before the premier of abc's mini series. he shared some of the same memories. >> hand dyed, cotston. >> reporter: gilbert baker was 65-years-old, a part of a

generation that pulled the gay community out of the closet and survived the aids crisis. >> we managed to create lives from this. so gilbert was a part of that and the flag became this iconic symbol that was identifying him anywhere. >> reporter: the colors of the rainbow were intended to be a symbol of hope and community. during the memorial the flack was lowered in baker's honor and replaced with a new one, a lasting icon of his legacy? san francisco, abc 7 news. three people are accused of starting a major fire under interstate 85 in atlanta. take a look at this, police arrested them that caused a bridge to collapse. officials haven't said how it started. one man is in jamie, due to appear in court. part of interstate 85 will be closed for months. crews will sister to replace nearly 250 feet of highway. 10 million in federal funding will help to go fix it.

came around. so it was quite an experience. >> reporter: great america says this is just the beginning the city of santa clara approved expansion plans in re15ing the park. one of the biggest projects is a commercial and entertainment area to downtown disney, the public will be able to access it without having to go inside the park. >> we are really lacking in entertainment, restaurants, all this type of activities for families of people that live and work in santa clara, so this will be a destination point for us. >> reporter: the park operator plans to add 20 rides and attractions in the next two decades the city approved rides up to 250 feet tall. right now the tallest one tops out at 110 feet. >> now it will alloy us to take this to the new level. they will let us build to heights we have never been able to do before. had a marketplace concept and really enlance the overall experience at great america. >> reporter: another major project called city place, which

this time received out towards the beautiful golden gate bridge. fewer temps out here, santa rosa, na pa, fairfield 49 degrees, concord and livermore climbing into the mid-50s right now. we are looking at cold. here's what you can expect. sunny, warmer temperatures, patchy fog for tomorrow morning, which will bring slightly cooler numbers for sunday, possible showers, at the end of next week. so don't put your umbrellas away quite yet. this season, highs today will be quite warm, especially in the north bay, where temperatures will hit the low '80s. even in fairfield, san francisco hitting 72, oakland 74, and also in the south bay, look for upper 70s in san jose, 78, morgan hills 77 degrees, pretty shy in santa cruz there of the work. there are some clouds off to the coast, a little bit of fog there, but plenty of sunshine,
