never done before filibuster his confirmation. but republicans are having none of it. they are vowing to bypass democrats even if it means changing the senate rules to allow just a simple majority to confirm a supreme court nominee. but, george, there's a reason this is known as the nuclear option. this rule change could have a lasting impact on the bench that stretches far beyond this current administration. in fact, even republicans who support the drastic move are warning it could make judges even more ideological, not less. >> hard to know all the consequence, one way or the other they say he will be on the supreme court by the end of the week. on another front it seems like the white house and some of their opponents have rekindled these talks over getting obamacare replaced. >> reporter: yeah, george, progress but still no deal. that's the word coming from freedom house caucus members who met with the vice president last night. the administration is now trying to revitalize these talks with hopes of wooing those ultra conservative members who of course blocked the president's health care plan just two weeks ago. on the table seems to be a plan

that would allow states some flexibility to opt out of certain obamacare provisions including those essential health benefits like wellness visit, mental health treatment, even emergency services but there is still no new legislation on the table and no agreement has been made. >> that kind of deal could cost votes on the other side and could be far away from any resolution. mary bruce, thanks very much. no you to jared kushner's high-profile meeting overseas. the president's senior adviser and son-in-law sitting down with iraq's prime minister as his role in the trump administration grows. our senior white house correspondent cecilia vega has all the new details. good morning, cecilia. >> reporter: amy, good morning to you. a growing role, indeed. now this morning the white house is facing questions about whether the president's son-in-law might have too much on his plate. his job description here includes everything from overhauling the federal government to brokering middle east peace. this morning, jared kushner still in iraq, the white house senior adviser and presidential son-in-law in the air on a

helicopter ride with military brass. kushner making the long trip to iraq even before the president's own secretary of state rex tillerson. the white house defending the trip. >> why is he there and not the secretary of state today? what's the message that the president is sending by having jared kushner be the one to take this trip. >> i don't think -- it's not a binary choice. jared will express the commitment of u.s. -- of the united states to the government of iraq. meet with u.s. personnel engaged in the campaign. >> reporter: seated in the office of the prime minister. the trip seeming to cement his role as a shadow secretary of state. he's been planning this week's visit of the chinese president to mar-a-lago and also tasked with brokering peace in the middle east. >> jared is a very successful real estate person. but i actually think he likes politics more than he likes real estate. >> reporter: the president tapping his son-in-law to reform the criminal justice system, not to mention he's running the new

office of american innovation where he's responsible for reforming veteran care, tackling the opioid epidemic and overseeing the not so small feat of revamping the entire federal government. can he do all of these things? >> it's not like he -- he has a team he oversees and i think there's a lot of areas that he has been working very diligently on behalf of the government and president's agenda. >> he is, indeed, very busy. about that trip to iraq we're told that kushner is there to receive an update on the status on the fight against isis. he is also there we're told, amy, to express the president's support for military personnel. >> and, cecilia, this morning, there is a report out that says president obama's former national security adviser susan rice requested the protected names of americans in intel reports and that includes some trump associates, quite a bit of reaction to this among conservatives. >> reporter: some of the his allies are applauding this proving the smoking gun. it is not that.

a former aide close to rice doesn't deny that she did, in fact, seek out these names but they say she did nothing illegal or nothing out of the purview of her job. her former job as national security adviser, amy. >> cecilia, thanks so much. george. >> we get the latest on that russian terror attack that killed at least 14 people on the st. petersburg metro. as we learn new details about the suspect, abc's alex marquardt is on the scene in st. petersburg. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning, george. that's right. moments ago russian authorities saying they do believe this was a suicide bombing. that they found the remains of the bomber on the train. we're also being told by the national intelligence agency of kyrgyzstan that the alleged attacker was born there but then became a russian citizen living and working here in st. petersburg. this morning russian media posting photos they say are of suspected attacker akbarzhon jalilov born in kyrgyzstan's

second biggest city. these are the panicked moments following his alleged attack. passengers scrambling to escape after that deadly bomb ripped through a subway car in st. petersburg. a hole blown through the side of the train. the bomb went off just before 3:00 p.m. monday as the train was between two stations as it came to a stop, thick black smoke and the smell of gunpowder filling the air. passengers and metro staff dragging out the wounded. in this subway system that normally carries more than 2 million riders a day at least 14 people killed and around 45 wounded. the train was traveling from sennya square to the technology institute in southern st. petersburg when the blast struck. the train conductor deciding to continue to the next station a move that officials say may have saved lives making it easier for passengers to get out and get help. within an hour, authorities discovering this black bag at a

different station with another bomb. this one inside a fire extinguisher. officials quickly defusing it saying they believe these are homemade devices. as emergency responders arrived on the scene, all stations were quickly evacuated and shut down. this morning most are back open. the bombing taking place the same day that russian president vladimir putin was in town for a meeting with the president of belarus, putin later laying flowers at the scene before speaking with president trump and other world leaders who expressed their condolences and solidarity. there have been no claims of responsibility yet. there have been suggestions that the attacker had jihadist ties. that's not been confirmed. for context we know thousands of people from central asia have been radicalized and gone to fight for isis in iraq and syria. george. >> let's talk about that more now with terrorism expert michael leiter and to pick up on what alex was saying this area, kyrgyzstan, the caucuses, a hot

bed of jihazists, unrest for a generation for putin. >> it really has. both the caucuses which are 2,000 miles to the west but also further to the east in kyrgyzstan and thousands of fighters not only from russia but kyrgyzstan and uzbekistan go earlier to pakistan and more recently to syria. >> we've seen in the past that putin has cracked down in chechnya, in those republics, some concern now that putin and his government may use this as an opportunity to crack down on these broader protests they've been facing. >> i think it's fair to say putin never faces this sort of adversary with a gentle glove. he hits this with a hammer and i think it's very possible that he will expand that. he will go after the caucuses. he will go after being harder fight in syria and i think he could use it as an excuse for any suppression he wants. >> that's the fight in russia but there is generalized concern across europe particularly threats against public transportation and subways. >> that's right. we had the bombing in brussels in 2016. we had threats in new york

subway in 2009. these are really susceptible targets. lots of people in close space and screening to get on is easier than something like an airplane in the u.s. or overseas. >> even though there's no claim of responsibility this idea that there was a second bomb perhaps in a fire extinguisher could have been far worse. >> it could have been far worse and officials overseas and in the u.s. will learn from that and look at how it was hidden. how the train operator responded. it doesn't matter where it is, anyone could face it. you have to understand how can you win this cat and mouse game of terrorism officials trying to defend against these sorts of innovative threats. >> we do know the train operator by continuing to go on continued to save lives. >> who knows. if it was a fire on board it could have accelerated it. these are the issues that go into both the response and again, trying to find it before it happens whether in a fire extinguisher or laptops on planes. >> thanks. turning to the search for survivors in colombia after that

catastrophic landslide left more than 250 people dead. a major rescue and cleanup effort is under way and our chief national correspondent tom llamas is on the ground in mocoa, colombia, with the latest. good morning, tom. >> reporter: amy, good morning to you. we've been reporting about that wall of water. i wanted to show you how high it came. this is one of the rivers that overflowed. it actually came over that bridge and wiped out this entire neighborhood. now, everyone here in mocoa is wearing these surgical masks and you have to because the air quality here is so poor from all of the dust of the destruction and, of course, it's mixing with this unbearable stench from the loss of life. this morning emergency teams digging through neighborhoods buried in mud. at this point the chance of finding any survivors is growing slim. hundreds are dead and the number is still rising in this devastated colombian town and floodwaters and debris crashing

down in an avalanche taking residents by surprise. outside the town cemetery we saw scores of residents lined up to find out if their loved ones were among the dead. this woman in tears after identifying the body of her sister. but still no sign of her 11-year-old niece, last seen running from the wall of water and desperation is now growing as hundreds are displaced. inside the largest shelter here we saw the overflow of people needing help. the competition to get food and several families left homeless. people sleeping wherever they can. one of the first things you notice is the amount of children everywhere running around being fed. but many of them have been orphaned by this disaster. colombia's president says his next fear for them a public health crisis because so many are getting by with so little. now, president santos tells us he spoke with president trump yesterday over the telephone who offered assistance.

president santos says what colombia needs is food. they need diapers and they need bedding. the red cross here in colombia is coordinating all of those efforts. >> what a tragic situation. okay, tom, thanks very much. we move on to the search for a cop killer in texas. where an officer was ambushed and shot as he arrived for work now learning that the officer told officials just last week he feared for his safety and abc's clayton sandell has the details. >> reporter: this morning a manhunt for a cop killer. overnight police releasing this video of the suspect's getaway car leaving the scene. investigators believe someone in that car opened fire on harris county sheriff assistant chief clint greenwood just as he arrived to work monday morning at this baytown, texas, courthouse. greenwood was married and had a 30-year career as a cop and prosecutor focused on police corruption. "the houston chronicle" reports last week he told colleagues he felt threatened by someone he once investigated in a corruption case reportedly writing in an e-mail, i believe

this person poses a real threat to my and my family's safety. >> i heard two shots. he was on the ground and then i saw the cars coming very quickly. >> assistant chief deputy clint greenwood was found to have been shot at least one time. >> reporter: bullets shattering the windows of his suv, a helicopter rushed greenwood to a hospital but he did not survive. this is where the ambush happened. police say they don't have suspects but there is now a $60,000 reward. george. >> okay, clayton sandell, thanks very much. we got a lot of tough stories. let's switch gears. >> we'll talk about the game everyone is talking about. unc getting sweet redemption last night beating gonzaga and taking home their sixth national championship and who else is better to be there than our own t.j. holmes out there in phoenix, arizona. how are you doing, t.j.? >> reporter: hey, i'm doing well but talking to these players after winning a national championship last night, talking

o'reilly's show following that report on payouts to his accusers. mara schiavocampo has the details. good morning, mara. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. mercedes-benz and hyundai announcing they're pulling ads from the show and a second blow for the network monday, not just that new lawsuit against ailes, now another woman coming forward about o'reilly for a reported total of six. this morning, fox news star bill o'reilly facing more public claims of sexual harassment. >> he told me early in the dinner he thought i was a very beautiful woman. >> why is this happening, dr. walsh? >> well, i got to tell you, bill -- >> reporter: former contributor wendy walsh coming forward monday claiming she was sexually harassed by the fox news host saying just weeks after beginning a new segment on his show in 2013, he invited her to his hotel for dinner. >> when dinner was finished he simply said let's get out of here. i assumed he meant that we should move to the bar to continue our conversation about

my career at fox news and so he caught up with me and said, no, no, come back to my suite. >> reporter: when she refused. >> he got very hostile very quickly. he told me flat out forget any career advice i gave you. >> reporter: soon after walsh says her segment was dropped from his show. while walsh is not suing o'reilly her attorney says she's coming forward now for another reason. >> we are calling today for an independent investigation into the culture of sexual harassment at fox news. >> reporter: this as the company is being hit with a new lawsuit filed by another woman monday. >> he is completely frozen the field. >> reporter: fox news contributor julie roginsky saying roger ailes harassed her during meetings where he repeatedly insisted on a kiss hello requiring roginsky to bend down to kiss him and position himself in such a way as to look down roginsky's dress and claims ailes sabotaged her career after she refused him.

>> to other victims i say, we stand with you. to mr. o'reilly on fox news, i say, we all know you have a reputation for vindictiveness, you've already gone on the attack against wendy. stop embarrassing yourselves. knock it off. >> i want to work. i don't need a big payoff. i'm not looking for money and some court thing. i just want a job and i want to be treated in an environment not as a sexual creature but as a competent employee. >> now, fox and o'reilly haven't commented on these new claims but over the weekend o'reilly said in a statement his job makes him a target for those would want a payday and monday fox sent a companywide e-mail urging employees to raise concerns about behavior in the workplace, george. >> thanks very much. they said raise those confidentially with our legal correspondent sunny hostin. let's set the table. new accusations coming out. roger ailes is gone, bill

o'reilly is staying but his advertisers are starting to go. if you were advising fox and were their attorney what would you tell them to do. >> you have to clean house and i think that's what he thought they were doing when they got rid of roger ailes. a reputable law firm came in to conduct an investigation and roger ailes left the company but there sees to remain this pervasive culture of sexual harassment. it's almost as if it's a de facto hostile environment. you have to have a culture shift. how? you get rid of the vestiges of that culture. that would include bill o'reilly. that would include bill shyne talking about 30 women who filed lawsuits against fox news. paying them off should not be the price of doing business. when you have this kind of purr va sieve sexual harassment, you have to clean house. from the top down. >> you talk about this culture

at fox news. you started out there about 10 years ago. something you saw? >> you know, it certainly wasn't the most female friendly company. i think that short skirts and a lot of lip gloss, quite frankly, were encouraged. and it doesn't appear that that type of culture shift has occurred. it hasn't changed. >> and, you know, this new lawsuit julie roginsky says she was asked to disparage gretchen carlson. who brought the original lawsuit which was settled for $20 million. would we be learning about this but for that lawsuit. >> i don't think so. gretchen carlson, her lawsuit, i think made it okay for women in the workplace to come forward and say, i am being sexually harassed. this is not right. because her career remains intact. she became really a hero to many women. she became the face of this kind of movement and i think but for that bravery we would not be talking about this but not enough has happened at fox news. >> think more women will come forward. >> i think more women will come forward. i think what will change things

is the advertising dollars being pulled from shows like "the o'reilly factor." between 2014 and 2016 "the o'reilly factor" the show itself had advertising revenues about $446 million. mercedes-benz has pulled out. my understanding is hyundai is pulling out. when we see those dollars being pulled away i think that's going to cause fox news to act. >> sunny hostin, thanks very much. michael. >> thank you, george. now to that search for answers on a college campus after a sorority sister died during a pancake eating contest. abc's kendis gibson is here with more. good morning, kendis. >> reporter: by all accounts caitlin nelson was friendly, popular, generous, no surprise that she was at a charity event, sadly it resulted in her death. caitlin was a 20-year-old majoring in social work at sacred heart a college in the middle of leafy new england, a member of kappa delta sorority

and attended an all you can eat pancake competition where everything went wrong. witnesses say nelson had eaten four or five when she suddenly fell to the floor and started to shake uncontrollably. >> i heard she was choking. i didn't know how serious it was. i saw everyone leave that room that they were in and kind of evacuating the areas. they all went outside and everyone was frantic as to what was happening. >> reporter: two nursing students who were there immediately tried to help. nelson was taken to a hospital nearby in critical but stable condition. two days later transferred to a hospital in new york city where she passed away. >> obviously she was choking, whether or not that was a combination of what she was eating as well as a reaction or an allergic reaction to it that closed her airway up, hard to say at that point but i know the officers tried at great lengths to attempt to clear her airway. >> fearful, police say she suffered from food allergies but did not contribute to her death. on sunday thousands of students took part in a vigil remembering the life of the classmate they

called caring and compassionate. nelson's family say they will donate her organs. she was only five years old when her father, a port authority cop, died inside the world trade center on 9/11. >> we began to respond to the sacred heart incident and as we understood the gravity with which the uphill struggle was facing caitlin, that's a tragedy in and of itself. to understand this family had gone through another tragedy involving her father and that father being a police officer compounds the tragedy i think for all of us. >> no doubt it does and "the daily news" reporting the heimlich was form performed with no luck and they're offering counseling to all students. as authorities try to figure out what went wrong but they did everything that they could do to try to help her out just did not help. >> you don't think of pancakes as being something you could choke on but just 24 hours earlier a man had a similar experience in denver. he died after choking on doughnuts in a doughnut eating contest. you think about that dough and maybe how it can't -- you can't

attacked by a shark off the coast of florida sunday. caitlyn taylor has more than 120 stitches. >> she has the complete bite imprint of a big shark on her thigh. so she will have some interesting scars for the rest of her life. >> reporter: her mother says her daughter and friends were standing on a sandbar when they saw what they thought was a dolphin. >> caitlyn says she turned around and just the head of it was coming in on a wave towards her and, you know, she said she turned to swim back to shore and she said she felt it just grab her and, you know, lift her off of the bottom. >> reporter: her mother tells abc's panama city affiliate that caitlyn managed to get away by punching the shark in the nose then making her way back to shore where witnesses rushed to her aid. this morning officials say it could have been far worse. >> appeared the shark just bit, realized it wasn't part of its

normal diet, normal prey and just released the victim. there was no shaking, there was no tearing. >> reporter: with summer mass approaching experts are warning beachgoers to expect more shark sightings as they migrate up the coast to warmer waters. >> any activity will stimulate fish life that works its way up to sharks. >> reporter: a fisherman caught video of what he says was a great white off the northern coast of florida. >> that's a great white, brother. >> you don't see that every day. >> reporter: last week a drone captured video off palm beach, florida, of a shark swimming under this woman. >> you can avoid these accidents by avoiding nighttime. avoiding diving at dusk, avoiding in areas where you see a lot of fish activity or fisherman. >> caitlyn writes she is beyond lucky to be alive but her mom actually says she was most upset about missing her softball game. wow! >> okay. that wouldn't have been foremost

both can explode if the pressure inside builds too high. this is the moment a piece of equipment found in many homes and buildings explodes. watch again as part of an industrial boiler inside a st. louis plant launches like a rocket into the air. >> it was a little chaotic. people didn't know where to go or what to do. >> reporter: this morning, three are dead and several others are seriously injured after part of the heating system the size of a van and weighing more than a ton flew roughly 500 feet before crashing through the roof of another building nearby. other pieces of debris several feet long damaging additional buildings in the area. this pipe even flying across the street like a javelin into this man's truck. >> we heard something blow up. i opened the door and seen dust flying and stuff flying everywhere. >> reporter: this isn't the first time a boiler accident has been caught on tape.

in 2015, one exploded in a home in washington state. spraying nails and hot steam across a children's playroom. >> it's just like a pressure cooker. it's not very common. but with lack of maintenance and proper repairs, it can happen. >> reporter: experts say explosions like this could happen if there's too much pressure built up inside the tank in both boilers and water heaters. something seen on the discovery channel's show "mythbusters." as for the blast in st. louis, investigators are now looking into the cause. >> we're going to be looking at all the records and make sure that everything was up to date. >> reporter: experts say this is a warning for us all. whatever you use to heat your home whether it's a furnace, a boiler, even water heaters they should be looked at, inspected by a professional once a year. if you do have an older home and a boiler like this one there are a couple of things you can do once a month to look at it. make sure it's working properly.

>> prince calling her or you the most beautiful girl in the world. welcome, mayte. >> thank you. >> this is one of many songs that he wrote about you. >> yeah. >> i know that you could have talked about this a long time ago. i'm pretty sure there were a lot of offers for you to tell your story about your relationship with prince, but why now? >> this is kind of for me an honor to him and what we had. it's a beautiful story, and i just wanted -- i know, you know, such a tragic loss and it happened so sudden that i wanted also before a lot of other people had their story, i wanted to share something as intimate and loving, so -- >> it's really a love story between you two, your relationship, how it started, just the whole progression of it. and what do you think is going to surprise readers the most? >> i mean it's going to be -- there's a lot of funny things in there like him taking my clothes

and my makeup. >> actually taking your clothes, not just taking them but altering them for him to wear? >> yeah and then putting it back into nye closet and me going, wait. these are -- they're high waters though, and he would walk away. ah, took my clothes again. you know, things like that and, you know, another thing is it was important for me because i want -- i know prince, you know, we had some tragic stuff happen in our life and i know he wants to celebrate his life and i know -- i feel this book is that as well. >> tragically his life ended tragically with a drug overdose and how much did you know? did you know about his drug use back then? >> nope. i mean it's in my book. i had some small things that happened, but it was never something that i was aware of, never saw it. he was a machine. he was a machine. he just -- music kept him going.

that was his drug. that's what i knew. >> and when you talk about tragedy i think the biggest tragedy when you read this book is about your son amiir that you had together. >> yeah. >> and how was it writing about that? that's about as personal as you can get. >> it was really hard but also it was very liberating and healing and also honoring of him because it just for so many years i held it in, and sharing it, you know, i know when i lost -- when we lost amiir i read a lot of books that helped me, and i'm hoping that somebody will read this and it'll help them, as well because miscarriages, it's horrible. i don't wish it on my worst enemy. >> and your case having it but then you had to hide it for a while, and was that your way of coping with it? was it his way of coping with it. >> it was his. i mean, it's not like, you know, i wanted to go on any kind of news thing and be like, hey, you know, this happened.

but it was just escalated because it was -- it was prince's son and it was our son and it was -- but it was how he handled it and i respected that. >> and have you gotten any feedback from this book because there are a lot of people out there who are big prince fans who are so afraid that someone's going to write something that tarnishes his legacy. so what has been the feedback? >> i've gotten good and people that think that, you know, he was a very private person and to keep that but i always say this when i was with him, it was the time he was the most public and he shared our love story and i feel that i'm doing -- i'm honoring that. it's nothing bad. it's coming from love. >> and he had a part of him that wanted to just kind of be normal. >> yeah, i mean he did "oprah," he did "the muppets" when i was with him and he wanted that side as well. >> and one quick last question. what is your favorite prince memory? >> oh, man, telling him i was pregnant.

he was watching a game or something and i remember calling him over and he wouldn't come over and i was like, hey! and he looked at me, and when i told him, his face was like -- it was amazing. it was funny. >> i tell you what, anyone who reads this book is going to be amazed. it's truly a love story between you two. congratulations and good luck. >> thank you so much. >> thank you for joining us today. ham. you are going to get a spiral cut ham. >> precut. >> going to cook it for an hour at 325 with the cuts on the bottom side of it so all the juices drip down, right? >> i did not know that. >> here's your glaze, one cup of each, honey, brown sugar and mustard, dump it together and whisk it up. >> yes, ma'am. >> this has been cooking for an hour. i took it out. all you have to do is pour the glaze right over the top of the ham. >> this is just for -- >> get in there. you're stirring like michael now. >> so now that i have mixed and poured. tent it. >> back in the oven for 40 minutes and done. >> an hour 40 total. >> an hour 40 total on 325. >> easy breezy. >> everybody loves leftovers, right. so here's the deal. you are going to take a couple cups of your ham, you are going to take some hash brown, i buy them preshredded. you can shred and peel if you want, chopped onions, you can buy them frozen, i prefer that too and some mushrooms.

you can buy them precut or buy them like this, whatever you want to do. that all goes into a baking dish with a cup of cheese. >> you don't have to do anything. don't have to parboil. just put them in. >> no, you don't. you just have to shred them with the cheese and what you want to do is also want to put in some creamy condensed cream of mushroom soup, melted butter. that guess in the pan, cheese on top, take it off. >> so easy and so delicious. >> so you got it. ham, leftovers, and now easter morning. or any morning, frankly. >> okay, so here's the deal. great baking mixes come in boxes still. very thoughtful. i love these. now, this in here is a lemon buttermilk quick bread and make it three ways, a muffin, quick bread and whoopi pies. >> in one minute. >> in one minute. so what you want to do, here's your mix, buttermilk in here and milk in here. putting blueberries and eggs. set that up.
