avenue and bueno street. >> abc 7 news reporter is live in napa where linda vista remains closed to traffic. wayne? >> reporter: good afternoon, kristen. we're on linda vista avenue in front of west park school. behind me you can see the suspect's vehicle crashed into a car covered by a chp tarp. that was just a short time ago. the students here were on lockdown. this began at about 2:00 p.m. on bueno street. they responded to a call of shots fired in a house. they established the perimeter. here is the official version of what happened from napa police chief >> stevsteve potter. >> officers responded to the 911 calls, shots being fired. the officers set up in the area. and as they were set up, this guy backed out of the driveway garage and as he was leaving the area in his car, he began to shoot at the police officers.

>> reporter: from the vehicle? >> from the vehicle. >> reporter: let's take a live look now from sky 7. we are told that police returned fire on that car. by our account from the sky 7 video, they put at least 20 bullet holes in that car. the suspect died, then he crashed into a tree. witnesses say his horn continued to blare and the windshield wipers kept turning after that impact. to our knowledge, that man and that deceased suspect is still in the car. meantime officers took no chances at park elementary school. students said they did hear shots fired. parents are still arriving to walk some of the kids out. we're also told that some officers in this incident did sustain some minor injuries. they were treated and they are all right. but clearly this is going to be a crime scene for quite a while. police tape, we have people standing around. we have a car back there with the suspect still inside. all that going on in napa after the shooting began roughly 2:00 this afternoon. live in napa, wayne freedman,

abc 7 news. >> all right, wayne, thank you. gun fire killed a mother in front of her two young children this morning in richmond. now a manhunt is on for this man, lawyer dushan mcbride of san pablo. police call the shooting a domestic dispute. investigators say franklin was in her car when she was killed this morning at 29th and ream avenue. her children both under ten years old were in the back seat. >> imagine the kids and witnessing your own mother being killed. i just -- my heart breaks for those kids. >> surveillance cameras on nearby homes capture the shooting and the suspect getting into a silver car leaving the scene. police say they received a call about a domestic dispute minutes earlier. >> and we have some developing news in oakland. we are just learning that a third person killed in last week's massive apartment fire has been identified as wilson. four people died in the fire and

now a temporary shelter is set up to house the dozens who were displaced is about to close. that has some worried they are going to be homeless yet again. abc 7 reporter is live at city hall. laura? >> reporter: hi, dan. i'm standing in front of a local assistance center. this opened to provide services to the fire victims. it's the overnight shelter that will be closing after tonight. the city has a list of available beds, but still some folks are worried about what happens next. >> they need to help us and give us places. >> reporter: with the temporary shelter about to close, these victims of last week's san pablo apartment fire worry where they'll be sleeping next. what do you think needs to happen? >> i think they need to get it together and help us like they did the people on welfare. >> reporter: what have they offered you? >> nothing. >> reporter: monday night just 11 people stayed here but they included two mothers with children. in the meantime the red cross, the city of oakland and alameda county have combined efforts

opening this local assistance center near city hall. the center is offering assistance with housing, food, health and social services. but for some it's not enough. >> they only gave me 125. my tools i lost in the building cost $800. that was way more than that. and they only gave me $120 and i bought this. >> we've been doing the best job we can. >> reporter: oakland assistance city administrator told us finding housing for the 80 people displaced by the fire has been a challenge. not only because of a chronic shortage, but also because the victims have diverse needs. >> people with various challenges, physical disabilities, seniors, families with children, singles, mothers with children, even taking that into account in terms of who gets the priority. >> reporter: local sa assistance center will be open for all victims of the fire through the end of the week. in oakland, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> an adult and four juveniles suspected in a string of

robberies and burglary are now in custody after flipping their car during a police chase last night in oakland. the car overturned as it exited northbound interstate 880 near fifth avenue and embarcadero. ending a chase that began in east oakland. all five were taken to the hospital. police say they are suspected of robberies in oakland and san leandro, and hayward. >> a judge today sentenced the owner of a granite company to a year of home detention for the deaths of two workers. they were crushed by falling granite slabs back in 2014. 66-year-old pleaded guilty in january to two felony counts of involuntary manslaughter and three labor code violations in connection with the employee's deaths inside a shipping container at galaxy granite. also sentenced to two years probation. >> to fremont where there is concern about what some consider a dangerous crosswalk near a school, a kriefr hit a child yesterday and a crossing guard was injured at that same

intersection last year. this is happening at thornton and sane pedro near ka bril owe elementary school and that's where abc 7 news reporter david louie is with a story you'll see only on abc 7. david? >> reporter: dan, a lot of parents and a lot of the children are saying this intersection is very dangerous. there is no crossing guard assigned here. this intersection, though, has seen two pedestrians mowed down by cars this school year, most recently yesterday morning. the parents of the child did not want to go on camera, but many others are speaking out. joseph lopez is so worried he's putting in his own time to help kids cross this fremont intersection. parents and kids are in shock over learning a kindergarten stunlt was struck by a car making a left turn monday morning as he, his mother and two younger siblings were accompanying him to school. the pto president was there to console the mother. >> it upset me and some of the parjts there helping out. you know, so, that was scary to

see her upset and of course concern for the child because at the moment we didn't know, you know, the conditions of the child. >> reporter: it used to be a crossing guard on thornton avenue until he was hit by a car last september while on duty. he walks his grandson to and from the school. does it help to have your grandfather walking you home? >> yeah. >> reporter: you feel safer that way? >> yeah. >> keep an eye. >> reporter: it is a state highway so cal trans is in charge of signals and crosswalks. cal trans did not return our call to see what can be done to improve safety. >> there should be a left turn between 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning and 2:30 and 3:00 in the afternoon. two times is too many. >> reporter: the ability of students and families to travel to and from school safely is of great concern. we are ready to assist in finding solutions both there and at any other location where safety is in question. >> there should be a guard there so that they can help us in

crossing the streets because these days they are not stopping at the stopping signs. >> reporter: in fremont, david louie, abc 7 news. >> some church leaders want san francisco mayor ed lee to declare a state of emergency to keep blacks from being pushed out of the city. abc 7 news was at third baptist church as they pointed out the african-american population of the city is now below 6%. they say housing is a big factor. the group cites a traditionally black senior housing facility that is now less than 15% african-american. >> if it were just a matter of economics, other groups would not be able to make it here. but it's only black people who are being pushed out. >> the leaders also want the mayor to ramp up the gang task force in the bay view and ingles side areas and address the high rate of black students suspended from school. >> well, some call it propaganda on public buses. up next the media, the message

san francisco has decided to make a major change in the ads that you see on its muni buses after feedback from community groups. the new policy restricts what you will now be able to see. abc 7 news reporter carolyn tyler is live from city hall to explain what's happening. can carolyn? >> reporter: well, dan, this is one case where san francisco is not the leader of the pack.

with a unanimous vote, sfmta now joins other big city transit agencies. also the mta's current policy allows bus ads like this one, which reads, in any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. support israel. defeat jihad. >> i think they can be very hurtful to lots of people. and i've seen some of the graphics and i shook my head. >> reporter: sfmta directors have approved a new policy that prohibits all political ads including campaign messages and bans others that are intended to be insulting, degrading and the most controversial are the work of the american freedom defense initiative which considers it a first amendment issue. >> it is shocking to me that san francisco, which is the left

wing mecca of radical liberalism, is moving toward shutting down free speech. >> reporter: she had just submitted this ad last week and is now threatening to sue. muni says other transit agencies have implemented successful bans. >> they've been able to eliminate some of the ads that have been posted, have been over to withstand some of the legal pressure. >> reporter: the new policy takes effect tomorrow. in san francisco, carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. >> the city of san francisco is hoping to cut down on litter by adding more trash cans. abc 7 news was in the mission today for the launch of the yes we can pilot program. 38 new garbage cans are being added along mission street between 14th and caesar chavez streets. many were removed years ago because they've actually been magnets for additional trash and illegal dumping. city leaders want to change that. >> hopefully people with no

around, the sunrise will be beautiful. as those will be high and whispy clouds. as far as the afternoon goes, once again it is not going to be bright blue skies, but clouds will filter your sun. this is the time to take advantage, get your rain gear out because on thursday night going into friday we do have a level 2 moderate strrnt storm on our storm impact scale. rain will be heavy at times. wind gufrts 30 to 50 mielsz an hour, and there is potential for a stream and creek flooding, particularly on friday once the rain really starts to accumulate. we've had a few dry days so that's allowed the soil to dry out a bit. hour by hour forecast 7:00 a.m. thursday, rain begins to develop in the north bay. it's just really showery around 9:00 a.m., a few light showers and there is another batch of showers comes through thursday afternoon at 2:00. this isn't the heavy stuff. thursday night is when the heaviest of the rain begins. this is when we go to a level 2. oranges and yellows indicating moderate to heavy rain.

this continues thursday night around 11:00 p.m. going into friday morning's commute. friday morning commute does not look good. especially with those winds howling. 4 to 5:00 a.m., scattered showers for the rest of your friday going into saturday. in terms of the rainfall totals, the wet est spots, the hills, the north bay will be picking up quite a bit. but thursday for the first part of the day, just a couple hundreds of an inch. the rainfall begins to accumulate as the heavy stuff begins to arrive. friday morning you'll notice areas topping an inch and a half. there could be wetter spots picking up as much as 2 inches of rain, perhaps 3 in the hills. the winds will be gusting but not immediately on thursday at around noon, just breezy as we med into the evening hours, 30 to 50 mile an hour winds. even 55 at times. thursday night will mean the potential for downed trees, power lines, friday morning a little low, and the winds increase again friday evening. so, if i were you, i would su keer any loose patio furniture you might have.
