18 hours after her father allegedly kidnapped her, four month old madelein was safe in her mother's arms and on her way home to mountain view. the baby's ordeal began last night at this residence inn. police say an argument between madelein's estranged parents prompted the father to drive off with her in his lap. he dropped the baby off with his mother in patterson who drove the child to livermore. the stepfather did not want his face shown. >> his mama took the baby back to the baby's mama so there ain't a big dispute. >> did he drop her off last night? >> no, this morning we made it happen. we made everything happen. >> reporter: baby madelein is safe, but police say they're still looking for michael. >> everything is all a misunderstanding, a family drama with two adults. >> reporter: where is your son? >> oh, he should be at work at this time. >> reporter: in livermore, laura

anthony, abc 7 news. >> breaking news from richmond, new video just in shows a murder suspect being taken to police headquarters following the shooting death of his girlfriend in front of her children. his name is lawyer mcbride and detectives captured him in sacramento earlier today. one day after the crime. you're looking at a picture shared by richmond police showing mcbride after he was found. 29-year-old franklin died while driving her children to school yesterday morning. he cut off the suv. an argument ensued after he stepped out of the car. surveillance video shows him walking away after franklin is shot. a live report at 5:00. >> a cement truck crash caused big delays in the east bay. on interstate 880 at thornton avenue and fremont, lanhee

rivera live. commuters caught a lucky break here. >> reporter: yeah, they sure did, larry. here is a look at everything. you can see a little bit of traffic here in the southbound lane, but these drivers are just curious. drivers trying to check out what's going on. you can see in the northbound lane, that's where actually the cement truck is and they're in the process of towing it away. but here's a view from sky 7 from earlier today. around noon today, chp officials say a cement truck overturned from a blown tire. the truck struck another vehicle and then it landed on its side. cement and water spilled onto 880. crews had to block lanes 1, 2 and 3. well, those lanes are back open, but there is still a little built of a traffic headache for folks going northbound on 880 going around the truck at this time. so, right now they're just in the process of towing the truck away from the scene. cal trans has cleaned up the

mess and chp says much of the traffic you're seeing right now are just curious onlookers and residual back up from earlier today. that is the very latest reporting live here above 880, lanhee rivera, abc 7 news. >> all right, lanhee, thank you. >> crews in contra costa county removed hazardous material from a building in concord. authorities tell us they were transferring formaldehyde from one container to another and accidentally mixed it with methanol. that would have created a fire hazard. thankfully no one was injured. crews are in the building and checking air quality. meanwhile in berkeley a car crash damage a gas line. happened just before 1:00 on ash by avenue and san pablo. traffic was shut down two blocks in each direction of those two streets. police evacuated residents who lived in that immediate area while pg&e crews are still on the scene. police report the gas leak has been secured and the roads are now back open. >> a 26-year-old accused of trying to kidnap and rape a 13-year-old girl in san

francisco pleaded not guilty today. >> lee is being held without bail. abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow has been following this story and joins us live now in the newsroom with the latest. melanie? >> reporter: his attorney says he is scared and the seriousness of the charges he is facing is not lost on him and his family. investigators took boxes of evidence from the 26-year-old's home afrz after he was a est ared in march. this is video when he was in court last week. you can see him there. police say that he had pushed a 13-year-old girl into his car at tara val and far side avenue. witnesses rescued the girl when they heard her screams. he is being held as you said, on no bail. >> we recognized that this was a very scary incident for this young woman and her family. and, so, there is not going to be a request for him to be released from custody at any time in the near future. >> so, at this point there is no additional information as to any other victims, but we are working with our law enforcement

partners to determine whether there is anything additional that needs to be looked into. >> reporter: his attorneys says that she is looking at all aspects of the case including what his mental state was at the time of the incident. his next court hearing is in may. in the newsroom, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. >> thank you, melanie. the wife of the orlando night club shooter will leave the bay area to face trial in florida. abc 7 news obtained the court papers in which she agreed to stop fighting extradition. they were signed by noor salman and filed in federal court in oakland last night. she was arrested in her family's home in january. and she's been held at santa rita jail in dublin ever since. she pleaded charges not guilty in last year's pulse night club massacre. >> we'll turn now to our weather. take a live look at mount tamme. clear right now but you can see clouds are moving in and rain is on the way. >> yes, spencer christian is here with a look at when it is going to arrive. spencer. >> energetic stories headed our

way. live doppler p, you can see areas of moisture beginning to push up the north coast line there. it is not in the bay area yet. as you can see from the live doppler and from satellite imaging the large plume of moisture and clouds racing in our direction. here's the storm impact scale. the storm which arrives tomorrow night ranks 2 on the storm impact scale and will continue through friday. produce rain heavy at times, strong gusty win, chance of lietd nipping ong friday. we can expect heaviest rain to fall between 10:00 tomorrow night and 5:00 a.m. friday. the strongest winds will come in two segments. first tomorrow evening between 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. friday, and then the wind will ease up a bit and reintensify friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and here we have a high wind watch in effect for virtually all the bay area. this is the bay area hills now, not so much those areas down at sea level. this is from tomorrow night, 9:00 to friday morning 11:00. winds will be generally out of

the south, gusts to 50 -- 60, rather, 60 miles per hour. there is a possibility of downed trees and power lines. alma? >> all right, thank you so much, spencer. well, expected rain on friday has forced the cancellation of oakland's monthly fish friday festival. the art food and music festival is normally held on the first friday of every month. the next one is scheduled for may 5th. >> if you live in marin county you may have seen the smoke and fire today. but these were several controlled burns conducted by the marin municipal water district. sky 7 was overhead as the district burned brush and fallen trees near tem pea lake in an effort to keep the environment safe from brush fires in the future. you can see a man who was riding by on an atv. you can see how small he looks in comparison to the big fire there. the marin county fire department monitored these burns. and a scare after somebody brought three hand grenades or smoke grenades to the police department. the building was evacuated around 9:30 after the grenades were brought to the front

counter. they were found in a relative's home and were brought in for disposal. police evacuated the building as a precaution. they called in a bomb squad to secure the grenades and also warned citizens never transport items that may look like explosives. >> happening tonight, you can learn more about california's high speed rail system during an open house meeting in san francisco. tonight's meeting takes place at 375 beale street from 5:00 to 8:00. they'll focus on the high speed rail from the corridor between san jose and san francisco. the extension into silicon valley is ahead of schedule and could be done by the end of the year. construction ask underway on a 10 mile stretch from the warm springs south fremont station to the neighborhood in north san jose. b.a.r.t. leaders say it is 94% complete which puts the project at least three months ahead of schedule. >> we're learning more about the deadly police shooting in napa. what we know about the man who was killed by police and what

in napa today, questions about a shoot out between a suspect and police as they rolled right through a suburban neighborhood. the suspect is dead and so far police and the district attorney's office have yet to release most of the details on what happened. abc 7's wayne freedman joining us live outside the napa county d.a.'s office. wayne? >> reporter: good morning, good afternoon, actually, larry. we're hoping to get more from the district attorney within the next hour. as you said, we know now most of what we know yesterday that a man is dead, that there was a bullet chase through a neighborhood in most of those homes in the neighborhood. the school was locked down. as for the rest, we're awaiting the details. more than 24 hours after the tragedy on a street named bueno in napa, the events that transpired are still sinking in. >> it was so scary. >> reporter: she captured a shoot out between one of her neighbors and napa police while looking through the window of her home with a cell phone. the victim was well known by his

neighbors. >> his name is steve ferry. >> reporter: but what caused him to snap and trying to shoot officers who surrounded his home? napa police say he fired at them from his car while driving off. they gave chase, they fired back. he hit the tree and one witness told us they fired again. >> from what i saw he looked like he was injured, from what i saw. >> reporter: was he being aggressive to the officers? >> no, he looked drowsy like he was just moving around in the car. and that's when they opened fire again on him. that's all i seen. >> reporter: records confirm that steve ferry was a licensed civil engineer who also owned a brand development company in napa and also arranged wine tours. in shooting ferry to death, napa police left multiple bullet holes in neighboring homes half a block from the nearby school. those homeowners declined to be interviewed today. one of the neighbors did talk. >> they are protecting people and to do what they have to do,

coast line. we're not getting reports of rainfall yet, not in the immediate bay area. it's on the way as you can tell by these clouds looking northward over the golden gate. and these are our forecast futures. we'll see a few showers tomorrow, but the main event comes in tomorrow night with rainy and windy conditions wednesday. that will continue overnight into friday. storm continues through most of the day on friday. right now though, as alma pointed out because she studies weather, too, we have temperatures in the low to mid 70s around most of the bay area away from the coast line. closer to the coast temperatures generally in the 60s right now. and go to overnight lows in the partly cloudy skies, it's been mild in the early morning hours. temperatures will drop to the low to mid 50s for the most part and in comes the storm late tomorrow. it ranks 2 on the storm impact scale. it will produce rain, heavy at times, strong gusty wind, periods of gusty wind. chance of lightning accompanying rain and wind on friday. instability associated with this storm. the forecast animation 8:00 tomorrow morning, notice during the day tomorrow we may see a couple scattered showers, but it

won't be until 5:00 p.m. or later that the steadier heavier rain arrives and it is going to arrive forcefully through the evening hours tomorrow night and overnight into early friday morning after midnight, and up until about 4:00 a.m. just before the morning commute begins on friday, we'll see rather steady pattern of rainfall, strong gusty wind and some heavy downpours, but notice again a break early in the day on friday before the storm reorganizes and reenergizes late friday evening on into the friday night hours. so, let's take a look at our projection for rainfall totals. friday at 11:00, most locations around the bay area will be approaching if not exceeding the 1 inch mark in rainfall. and the wind is going to be quite gusty. thursday night we have two waves of gusty wind. thursday night about 10:00 or so we'll see maybe even later we'll see gusts up to about 45 miles per hour. then the winds will taper off early friday, but they will reintensify friday night climbing back to 30 miles per

in 2013, several tweets. what can you tell us about that? >> reporter: yeah, larry, he definitely did. when president obama was considering military action in syria four years ago, now president trump, back then private citizen trump, as you mentioned, tweeted to president obama saying, president obama, do not attack syria. there is no up side to that, only a downside. but now we hear from president trump saying the opposite, saying that it is now his responsibility, but he also said that the latest attack in syria is what made him rethink his stance. larry? >> stephanie ramos, thank you, live in new york. prince william, the dutches of cambridge and prince harry attended a service for the westminster terror attack victims today. it was held at westminster abby, a few hundred yards away from the attack that killed four people. one of the victims was 54 year old kurt cochran of utah. his wife melissa was injured in the attack.

jet in washington, d.c. we're looking at video with the pilot para chuting in prince georges county, maryland. he crashed in a wooded area 200 yards from homes moments after taking off from joint base andrews. the pilot was training with other fighter jets. >> in colorado today, crews rescued or raced to rescue a woman who was trapped under a 1500-pound bolder at the top of a mountain. it's not clear how the hiker ended up under the bolder. a north table mountain in the rocky mountains near golden colorado, it took crews a while to transport equipment up there to move the rock off of her. when she was air lifted off of the mountain she was unconscious, but the local fire department said her vital saines were fairly good. >> family friends and other astronauts were gathered to bury space pioneer and rm toer u.s. senator john glenn at arlington national cemetery. glenn died in december at the age of 95. several tributes took place in glenn's native ohio to honor the first american to orbit the

more help beyond the bay area. >> we showed you beautiful northern lights from earth. here we have a look from space. an incredible view from the international space station. crew member captured these glowing auroras. he said it's hard to look away from the windows. auroras are caused when the sun releases electrically charged particles into earth's atmosphere which then collide with gases like oxygen and nitrogen. it's captivating. >> certainly is. all right. we have some rain coming. >> weather for earthlings. >> that's right. here we go, live doppler 7 showing a plume of moisture just offshore. it's not going to have any affect on our weather in the immediate future. let's look at what is coming our way on the satellite image. you can see a huge expansive area of clouds and moisture moving in our direction. this will be our next storm which will arrive tomorrow night. the storm ranks 2 in the storm impact scale, a storm of moderate intensity. it will continue overnight through friday producing rain, heavy at times, strong gusty winds likely and there is a

chance of some lightning on friday as well. both the friday commutes morning and evening will be wash outs. and the wind will be very gusty by 6:00 tomorrow evening. gusts on the coasts r coast of 40 miles an hour. inland gusts of 30 miles per hour. winds will be stronger late tomorrow night, going into friday morning. then the winds will tame down a little bit on friday, early morning right around the middle of the commute or so, and the winds will reintensify friday afternoon and friday evening. so, we're going to have some rainy and windy weather for about a day and a half starting tomorrow night. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. it ranks 2 on the storm impact scale. we'll see the storm lose intensity and taper off saturday morning. it will rank 1 on the storm impact scale. partial clearing after that, three dry days to next tuesday. then rain on wednesday. >> thank you, spencer. >> is one company going too far

cash. abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley looks into why. >> reporter: e. commercial analysts are reporting while a substantial one-third of businesses now offer apple pay, only 13% of iphone users have been willing to give it a try. and they say that's an extremely low adoption rate among apple's loyal user base. right now some store clerks are unsure of how to guide consumers through an electronic payment and some shoppers are hesitant to make them because they're concerned about potential security breaches. experts say part of the blame lies with apple. >> i think there is a lot more push that apple needs to do with consumers in order to get this more rapidly adopted. there have to be incentive. >> reporter: consumers agree. >> i haven't been prompted enough to make a switch, but i would be open to it. >> reporter: and they give up easily. >> i tried using google pay once and it like didn't work immediately so i actually stopped trying it. >> reporter: some businesses are actively trying to get customers to use mobile payments because it's the quickest transaction.
