morning of a bit of a shake up at the white house. politico top aid steve bannon threatened to resign. a donor convinced him to stay. news as bannon was removed. tracking the developments out of the west wing. >> reporter: at the white house, a staff shakeup. president trump reversing his controversial decision to put his chief strategist, steve bannon, on the national security council. bannon's presence drew harsh criticism, a lightning rod, his right wing views on nationalism and islam no secret. >> it's pretty dark here in europe but there is something much darker and that is islam. >> reporter: the president added bannon to the principals committee, he excluded key military officials and was accused of favoring politics over national security experience. restructuring largely do to the growing influence of general h.r. make master who took on the job after michael flynn was fired after 24 days.
