>> the storm is pushing through. you see the wind gusting on mount tam right now. gray skies and rain hang around at sfo. days like this always make for delays, tough travels, and tracking changes and what's in store for the weekend, mike? >> starting with what's going on right now. hi, everybody. down to the street level, live doppler 7, moving through the hills here, headed into one of the bigger showers right now, showing yellow, meaning moderate, but the rest of us have light showers. you see that air mass as right there, to the left of your screen. that's the first of showers this evening. ranks a 1 on the scale, even though showers and thunderstorms could have logusty breezes. we're not expecting the damage or flooding from last night's storm. in fact, we're going to have scattered showers throughout the evening, and they increase as we

head towards the 6:00 and 8:00 hours. more timelines coming up. >> mike, thank you. developing news in the oakland hills this mornig where the damage from last night's storm is clearer. on banning drive, several trees are missing limbs snapped from the high winds. rains so heavy, firefighters fear two homes will be red tagged after a mud slide. dirt and rocks threatened three other homes. it knocked out utilities as realm, forcing people to be evacuated from 12 homes. >> we don't suspect or expect this to worsen as of right now. it all depends upon the rain and wind. >> engineers looking at hot us to see what repairs need to be made now. the insurance companies help families find places to stay overnight. thousands in the bay area woke up to no power this morning, that's if they were not awakened earlier by the

ferocious winds and pounding rain. the normally calmer south bay did not escape storm damage. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live. matt? >> reporter: i may have found the unluckiest homeowner here. check out the tree. you see it went down. good news? only minor damage to the fence, but as we walk this way down the road, you can see that a second tree went down on his or her property, and you can see it crashed through the fence, causing a lot of damage there. i just wrote a note on the gate, there's a third tree that went down on the property in the back, so here and all across the bay area, it's going to take a lot of work to clean up the mess. the wind was no joke overnight. one gust was measured at 72 miles per hour. several trees and power lines were knocked down and debris spread out everywhere. driving around, you couldn't help but notice the storm damage. >> driving down the road, saw

something that caught my eye. this was knocked down by the wind overnight. >> reporter: once the sun was up, you could see the mess. this tree on south avenue in covington road crashed into a stoplight. people in the area said they're not surprised at the damage. >> the wind was howling, the windows were shuttering, and it felt like the trees would come through the apartment window. >> reporter: anything come through? >> no, we were praying, and god protected us. >> reporter: thousands lost their electricity when the trees came down, but for some, it was just a cue to go to bed. >> as you can see from the stuff on the driveway, a lot of stuff blew down, but we didn't lose any big things. >> reporter: just the power. >> power, yeah. and as i said, i'm lucky i didn't even have to start the generator. i just went to bed.

roof of the structure. >> i was so scared, yes. >> she lives in the yellow house that caught fire on 23rd. her neighbor banged on her door at 1:45 a.m. to warn her. >> when i opened the door, i saw the smoke, thick, and i got the family, get out. >> reporter: three unites in the house, and according to the fire department, they were poor conditions inside. >> very dangerous, hard conditions to get up top, a lot of furniture, very narrow attic stairwell, a lot of people were living in that building. >> i lived here for three years, so this is, like, my home, and it's really upsetting. >> reporter: she lives in the bottom unit with three roomma s roommates, saying the upstairs neighbor in the attic said a candle hit a curtain and started the fire. >> i lost a friend in the ghostship fire so this is, like, bringing a lot back. >> reporter: adjacent walls spread the fire to two neighboring apartment buildings. the district supervisor showed

in today's morning money report, drivers prepare to pay more. a bill boosting the gas tax and other fees is headed for governor brown's desk. >> this helps people because the car's not going to get as broken as they are under our bad roads. a lot will get jobs, and as part of the prosperity to california, we couldn't be a third world country with crummy roads. >> the plan raises $52 billion over the next ten years to pay for state roads, bridges, and highways and comes tax. you'll pay a new fee with the vehicle registration, up to $175 depending on your car. electric cars face a $100 annual fee starting in 2020. diesel taxes are set to go up by 20 cents a gallon.

good news as you look at live doppler 7, more the governor did the same thing, declaring a couple weeks ago, the drought is over other than for the governor, he ended the drought state of emergency in california. that means don't waste water, but at least there aren't issues that have to deal with the legality of the water. there's only a few
