stretch and it does sound like it's in the clearing stages so i will talk about that in a few. you are in the green at minut minutes. new this morning in both directions of highway 84 are back open after being shut down overnight. >> an suv slam spwamed into a bg and the front of the suv destroyed. tiffany is live. >> reporter: the driver of the suv was brought here to the medical center for treatment. their condition is unknown at this time. but take a look at the video that is very dramatic. it shows the aftermath of the impact he suffered. the suv is completely mangled. the big rig had only minor damage to the back of the trailer. california highway patrol said the accident happened shortly after midnight at ruby hill drive. the suv ran into the back of the

big rig. all lanes of highway 84 were closed in both directions. the southbound lanes opened after an hour and a half, and it took two hours for the northbound lanes to be cleaned up and re-opened. we will have more information about that that individual as soon as we have it. tiffany wilson, abc7 news. >> thank you, tiffany. united airlines ceo is going on camera this morning for the on camera this morning for the first time since this a passenger. >> use of law enforcement aboard an aircraft has to be looked at very carefully. they are clearly there for a purpose of safety and we want to make sure they protect us, but for other reasons i think that's a policy we have to absolutely look at. >> and he said he felt shame when he learned of the incident.

san francisco officials are once again exploring the possibility of establishing a public bank. yesterday supervisor asked the budget analyst to update a 2011 study to municipal banking. a public bank can create a new revenue stream without raising taxes and provide a place for those in the cannabis industry to deposit money.

things are back to normal at oakland international airport after an incident involving a southwest plane. an incoming plane was about to land with a blown tire. emergency crews rushed to the runway. the plane landed safely and was towed to the gate. we now know a man found dead after a confrontation with the police died of a self inflicted gun wound. the alameda county corner's office said he suffered one gunshot wound to the head and they determined perez shot himself. and officials expected to announce new legislation to help thousands of people living on the streets. they want the city to build more

shelters for those experiencing homelessness. they are planning to deal with the city's shelter shortage. according to a recent government report, nearly 7,000 people in san francisco are not sheltered. in today's gma's first look, united airline is taking a huge financial hit as outrage continues after a passenger was dragged off a flight in chicago. here's alex perez. >> in this morning's gma first look, a 69-year-old doctor's family said he is still recovering at a chicago hospital after being dragged off of a united airlines flight on sunday and his laurie leasing this statement on sunday, appreciative of the outpouring of support. >> the first look of the moment things escalated, and he was

saw this happened to this unite. he is apologizing to the passenger, his family and all others on that flight. the ceo says he will be reviewing the airlines' policies. >> it was a system failure. we have not provided our front line supervisors and managers and individuals with the proper tools, policies, procedures that allow them to use their common sense. they all have an incredible amount of common sense and this issue could have been solved by that. that's on me. i have to fix that. i think that's something that we can do. >> these are the first comments he has made on camera since this happened. munoz says a paying passenger should not be treated this way and officers will not be sent onboard to remove passengers. he also says he will not be resigning even though some have called for him to step down. he says he was hired to make

united better and that's what he's going to do. reporting live at sfo, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. a southern california man is claiming a similar experience on a united flight from hawaii to los angeles he paid $1,000 for a first class seat because he needed to get home and before he left united told him he needed to give up his seat for a higher priority passenger, and he refused and he was told they would use handcuffs to remove him if needed and ended up in the economy class between a married couple arguing. they have not offered an apology. maryland senator says airlines not passengers should bear the burden for over booking. >> if they over book they should

>> i mistakenly used an inappropriate word for the holocau holocaust, and there's no comparison and it was a mistake to do that. >> so far president trump has not commented. this morning the red cross is helping 60 people forced out of their apartments by a fire in san francisco. firefighters evacuated the building on clay after the fire broke out around 9:00. firefighters say it started in the basement and storage area, and residential units above. happening today a san francisco sheriff's deputy accused of giving a firearm of a convicted felon is expected to be arraigned on new charges. in march of 2016 meyers told police her department-issued gun had been stolen in a home burglary, but they determined the break-in was staged. the weapon was discovered in a vehicle owned by fowler.

yesterday prosecutors charged meyers with giving a firearm to a convicted felon. that this motorcycle hit a 9-year-old boy in a santa cruz crosswalk. police say the motorcyclist tried to get around stopped traffic and slam spwaod the boy and left the scene. the boy has significant injuries, and he's expected to recover. and the board of directors will vote whether to have a community meeting about transporting students from schools and the oakland hills and 56 buses were provided to three schools until the district said it could no longer pay after losing funding from the state. the board will meet at 5:00 tonight. following up on a story we reported yesterday, santa clara county put a $1 million rebranding campaign on hold. the money designated for a new

york public relations have gone towards creating a logo. the county needs to reassess what it needs. some supervisors agree the county has a marketing problem. san francisco is taking another step towards opening up another safe injection cite for drug int intevenus drug users inject. health leaders estimate there are 22,000 intra venus drug users in san francisco. and then backing the push to use california's primary way up, and they seek to move california's primary from june to shortly after the contest in

it's 5:43 now. the so-called san francisco based uber for pot is expanding its service to the south bay. the app is called customers can use the app to get joints to edibles delivered in 20 minutes, and it works with local dispensaries to make the delivery and it operates about in 100 california cities and now covers the entire bay area. a north bay women's cycling team is pleading for the return of stolen racing bicycles. the bikes were valued at $60,000. they belong to an olympic med winning team. bikes were discovered missing on friday taken from a utility park. and then coming with a
