live where you live, this is abc 7 news. protesters sound off in san francisco as a federal judge hears argumentings for the first time on local lawsuits over president trump's crackdown on sanctuary cities. thank you for joining us. i'm matt keller. >> i'm kristin sze. this would cut funding to local governments that refuse to enforce immigration law. abc 7 news reporter amy holly field is live. >> reporter: those who are against president trump's executive order think that this hearing went very well for them.

the government's defense surprised them, and they thought it was very weak. protesters gathered outside the courthouse before the hearing worrying that the president's order would strip counties of more than a billion dollars in federal funding. in a surprise, the attorney for the federal government denied that saying his interpretation of the president's order is that the funding would be safe, only $1 million in grants in jeopardy. he contradict what the president has said. those on the other side think this is a good sign. >> this last minute interpretation is not credible. in fact, i thought the federal government came off looking even more weak. they might have been better off just sitting silent. >> reporter: those against the order told the judge not to rely on this interpretation that they can't just hope that the trump administration would only take away grants. they asked the judge to put an

injunction in place. the judge took it under adds visement and did not rule today. those here think it'll be soon, a matter of days, not weeks, and that's because the counties have to make the budgets. reporting live in san francisco, abc 7 news. >> thank you, amy. well, it's been a week since president trump ordered a missile strike on syria. now all eyes are on north korea ahead of a possible nuclear weapons test as the world is reacting to the u.s. dropping the mother of all bombs in eastern afghanistan. >> new videos released this morning shows the bomb the u.s. used for maximizing the destruction of isis. afghan officials said it killed several dozen isis fighters. >> the weapon achieved its intended purpose. >> it's a massive ordnance air blast, nicknamed the mother of all bombs, weighing 22,000 pounds, the largest non-nuclear bomb the u.s. has ever dropped in combat. >> we have fighters down in a deep valley, really rugged terrain, so the blast was

focused and pushed up into the caves to take out fighters. >> reporter: new video shows how massive that bomb is, so large it has to be carried and pushed out the back of a c-130 cargo plane at the timered to a shoot before striking the target. a massive show of force, not just to isis, but other u.s. enemies. >> we watch north korea here, was that heard on the other side of the world in pyongyangpyongy? >> reporter: recent images show a north korean nuclear test site prime and ready for launch saturday. top u.s. leaders say the increasing pace of missile testing there over six months made the situation urgent leading the u.s. to move a strike group into position. >> i don't know if this sends a message. it doesn't make any difference if it does or not. north korea is a problem. the problem will be taken care of. >> reporter: the pentagon officials say the u.s. commander in afghanistan did not meet president trump's approval.

general john nicholson had the authority to use it before president trump took office. this morning, local afghan leaders react to the bombing in afghanistan. they say many civilians live in that area. that contradicts the u.s. military's claim that the area is sparsely populated. afghan officials said no civilians were hurt, and afghan spiritual leader thinks there's more than this than bombing of the isis targets, but a show of power to the region. >> this was a show of power to russia, north of afghanistan, a show of power to north korea. this was a show of power to pakistan, and -- >> some middle east experts question whether the bombing will make americans more secure. >> a developing news in san jose. a gas leak forced the evacuation of one building on park avenue near sunol street. officials tell abc 7 news a propane tank was the source of the leak. it was capped and all clear at 9:15.

police hope a reward leads to the arrest of a santa rosa doctor. he vanished in the middle of a sex crime trial last month. they released pictures of the 36-year-old showing four looks. police say he failed to show up in the last two days of the trial. he was found guilty of six felonies and six misdemeanor charges and now a warrant out for his arrest. he was last seen by a family member in walnut creek march 8th. the city will be installing three surveillance cameras at a hot spot for crime. they are put up at the intersection of east 18th street and cavolla road. some cameras will be fixed, others will be able to move. police will be able to turn in 360 degrees and zoom in and out. last year, 430 crimes recorded in the area, and in those cases, police say they were associated with violence including narcotics and prostitution. new this morning, this mud slide blocks the eastbound lane on redwood road in the oakland hills. the slide covers 40 feet of the

a new study publish the in scientific reports suggest what parents suspect. young children using touch screens have a harder time sleeping. up to 30% of kids ages 6-36 months experience sleep problems. parents use smart phone and tablets to stimlace children of that age, but researchers say there's a significant association between the time spent on touch screens and decreased sleep in children hindering mental development. supervisors could vote tuesday to approve use of
