good morning. i'm arielle reshef, in for diane macedo. >> and i'm kendis gibson. we're going to start with the search for a suspected killer, believed to have posted video of the crime on facebook. >> overnight, the focus of the manhunt moved from the crime scene to cleveland. >>over night, a ping from steve stevenson's phone was found in erie county, pennsylvania. >> found me somebody i'm about to kill. he's an old dude. >> reporter: the senseless murder, too gruesome to show. he stops an apparent stranger. >> hi, can you do me a favor. can you say [ bleep ]. can you say [ bleep ]? yeah. she's the reason why this is about to happen to you. how old are you? >> oh, man, look. look -- i don't know nobody. >> reporter: then shooting him,

point blank. the video of the cold blooded killing posted to facebook. >> from what we can tell now, it's just a random person he picked out. we don't know why. >> reporter: the shooter gets back into his vehicle and calmly drives off. just as chilling, the suspect's claim to have killed many others. though police have found none. the victim identified as 74-year-old robert godwin, sr. his family in shock. >> i don't know what i'm going to do. it's not real. >> reporter: stevens was last seen in a white ford fusion. where with temporary tags. overnight, a signal from his phone possibly picked up in pennsylvania. now, residents there, and in new york, indiana, and michigan, told to be on alert. and we have also learned of another side of the suspect overnight, from the woman whose name was mentioned just before the shooting. she released a statement in part say thagt the suspect really is a nice guy. he is generous and was kind and loving to me and my children.

we, of course, will stay on top of this story should there be any new developments. vice president mike pence making a surprise visit to the korean demilitarized zone. as tensions escalate over north korea's nuclear arsenal. >> this after the north's failed missile launch. peps said the era of strategic patience with north korea is over. he declared all options are on the table. abc's january janae norman has more. >> reporter: kendis and arielle, good morning. that failed missed launch in north korea has not alleviated concerns. vice president mike pence with a warning from the administration. the u.s. will take action if necessary. with all eyes on north korea, a weekend missile launch failed in spectacular fashion. u.s. commanders say a medium-range ballistic missile blew up almost immediately after the launch, with the world watching. humiliating the country's leader, kim jong-un. >> we'll meet any use of

conventional or nuclear weapons with an overwhelming and effective response. >> reporter: and new questions over why that launch failed. and whether a u.s. cyberattack could have brought the missile down. >> i don't think so. but i wouldn't rule it out. >> there's a very strong belief that the americans, threw cybermethods, have been successful on several occasions in interrupting these sort of tests and making them fail. >> reporter: that failed test hasn't eliminated the looming threat of north korea's sixth nuclear test and new missiles flaunted in a weekend parade. >> this problem is coming to a head. and so it's time for us to undertake all actions we can, short of a military option, to try to resolve this peacefully. >> but all options are on the table. >> reporter: the administration warning the u.s. will take action, amid concerns that the regime is getting closer to being able to reach the continental united states with a missile. if north korea pulls the trigger, target number one could be osan air base just 48 miles away.

where forces say they're prepared. >> we're trained, day in day out, to be fight tonight ready, as we say it. >> reporter: and u.s. officials are sure kim jong sun not giving up on a long-range missile with a nuclear warhead capable of reaching the u.s. the u.s. is counting on china to flex its muscle in the region to pressure north korea to abandon the weapons. >> the vice president heading to japan next. thank you. president trump is taking a swipe at thousands of protesters who gathered around the country demanding he release his tax returns. the demonstrators want to know if the president has business ties so foreign governments, like russia and china. the president tweeting someone should look into who paid for the small organized rallies. the election is over. the president active on twitter overnight. also seemingly attacking the media. he said the recent congressional election in kansas was a really big media event until the republicans won.

now they play the same game with georgia. bad. tomorrow's special house election in georgia is to fill the seat vacated by h.h.s. secretary tom price. some declaring democracy is dead in turkey. this follows a closely watched referendum bringing sweeping new powers to the president there. the current president called the slim victory an historic decision. opposition leaders plan to challenge the results. many believe the expanded powers will lead to authoritarian rule. iraqi officials are blaming isis for two gas attacks over the weekend. in a newly liberated area of western mosul. they're trying to figure out what type of gas was used in the latest attack. they believe in the first incident, isis used a rocket loaded with chlorine. several iraqi soldiers were treated for breathing problems. >> in neighboring syria, the evacuations of more than 3,000

civilians was postponed, this, a day after an explosion killed dozens of people waiting for buses to take them out of the city of aleppo. more than half of those killed were children. the reasons for delay was not given. nor has there been a claim of responsibility for this weekend's bombing. and that slaughter there in aleppo on the mind of pope francis as he delivered his annual easter message. he called it a vile attack but urged the faithful to cling to their faith despite terror and hatred. it was the pope's fifth easter as pontiff. the former pope, pope benedict turned 90 yesterday. here at home, thousands of guests will be allowed on the white house lawn this morning. it's the 139th annual easter egg roll. >> president trump and the first lady are hosting, along with the easter bunny. no word on who will be dressing up as the easter bunny this year. we'll presume it's not melissa mccarthy from her skits.

this is florida's worst wildfire season in at least six years. gunfire brought an abrupt end to two spring carnivals this weekend. near boston, no one was injured. bullet holes were found in three vehicles. the building was searched. there were no arrests made. in alabama, police say a fight broke out and shots were fired at a church carnival which had nearly 1,000 people in attendance. four people were wounded. three teens and an infant. all are expected to recover. no word on what started the fight. five people were detained for questioning. the last day of the carnival canceled. united airlines has a new policy in place for employees traveling on its flights. united workers seeking a seat on plane now have to book that seat at least an hour in advance of the flight's departure. the policy is designed to keep a repeat of last week's fiasco, you probably heard about it,

where a doctor was forcibly removed from his seat to allow a crew member on. united is facing another complaint from two passengers saying they were booted from a very important flight in houston the. >> a couple was kicked off the flight over the weekend as they headed to costa rica to get married. michael and his fiance, amber maxwell say they switched seats because someone was sleeping in their assigned seats. they insist they complied when a flight attendant ordered them to return to their seats. but an air marshall made them get off the plane. >> people are usually in happy place when they're on vacation. for us, we were going to get married. we're still going the get married. live go life goes on. the way united airlines handled it was absurd. >> nothing can stop the love. the bride and groom were rebooked on a later flight. united said the couple repeatedly tried to sit in upgraded seats they didn't buy and would not move. when we come back, not the usual greeting at a walmart. things got a little bit rough for these shoppers. and an emotional night for

heavy rain caused flash flooding in the queen city area over the weekend. storm sewers in cincinnati could not hanle the volume of water. several people had to be rescued after trying to drive across flooded roads and parking lots. wet roads a problem for most of the south today and the northwest. for people in the dakotas into kansas, drivers could see snow in the higher western mountains. if you're flying, airport delays, well, memphis has the exclusive. massachusetts authorities are certain they have the right suspect in custody for the murder of a young jogger last summer. >> they say the man was caught by an attentive trooper and the victim herself. the story from abc's linsey davis. >> reporter: the alleged killer of 27-year-old vanessa marcotte is now in police custody. >> we got him.

police say an 11-year-old girl was also injured. it's been ten years since the mass shooting at virginia tech. the school marked the anniversary with a 24-hour memorial. the first candle was lit at one minute after midnight sunday. the last one extinguished just one minute before midnight monday. students, faculty, alumni, others remembered the 32 people who were gunned down by a mentally ill student. and for the 121st time, runners from around the world are lining up this morning for the boston marathon. >> the world's oldest marathon starts in hopkinton, massachusetts. of course. more than 32,000 runners are registered. >> among the runners, a man running his 50th consecutive boston marathon. and the first woman to officially run 50 years ago is lacing up her sneakers again for the race today. we wish them luck. the houston rockets blew out
