live where you live, this is abc 7 news. >> well, we have closure in regards to the search for steve stephens. >> the so-called cleveland facebook killer is dead. police say he shot and killed himself in pennsylvania as police surrounded him after a chase this morning. thank you for joining us. >> the three-day man hunt for the suspect who allegedly killed an innocent man on facebook live ended in erie, pennsylvania today, 90 minutes from cleveland. >> reporter: steve stephens, the

man at the center of a three-day man hunt shot and killed himself today at pennsylvania state police spotted him and pursued the suspect. >> pennsylvania state police officers received a tip that the vehicle that we were looking for, the white ford fusion, in a mcdonald's parking lot near erie, pa. the vehicle fled from the area. there was a short pursuit in which the vehicle was stopped. as officers approached that vehicle, steve stephens took his own life. >> reporter: suspected of killing 74-year-old godwin sunday taking a video of the killing and posting it on facebook. a national man hunt ensued, the cell phone tracked 100 miles east where the murder occurred. rambling video showed a man who was unraveling, he was out of options and wanted to kill as many innocent people as possible. thorpts saying they have not

found evidence that he killed anyone else. >> the goal from 3:00 eastern day was to ensure no one else was a victim of violence by mr. stephens. we believe that to be the case. that was the no. one goal. the other goal was to bring mr. stephens in safely. unfortunately, he chose that not to be the case. >> reporter: police wanted him safe and alive and his death means many unanswered questions for the family of the innocent victim. in cleve, ohio, abc news. facebook promises to review protocols for monitoring and removing violent videos like the one stephens posted. within hours, addressed the family. >> our thoughts did out to the family of robert godwin, sr., and we have a lot of work, and we will keep doing all we can to prevent tragedies like this from

general manager of antioch's golf course. fitzgerald is wanted on grand theft and insurance fraud. the golf course closed in august because of financial trouble. the family got an $800,000 loan for a solar panel project. prosecutors say fitzgerald embezzled that money. arrest warrants issued for the san diego based solar contractor who received $699,000 in proceeds from the loan, but never insubstantialed them. happening today, sentencing underway for two drifters suspected of a pair of murders. abc 7 news learned prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed on long prison terms for both suspects. morrison and lyla pled guilty to murder and robbery chargers. they faced accusations of killing a man walking his dog and a canadia tourist in san francisco. a third suspect also pled guilty. the san jose city counsel

set to vote on new rules to protect tenants for being evicted for two reasons or no reason, that is. it requires landlords to give just cause before eviction and others will be housed if displaced. the rules would burden property owners and take make it harder to evict problem ten innocents. >> we have to look for those being mistreated, but this legislation is too far. i think it may even wind up in the courts. >> this is not a political issue. this is a moral issue because these -- this serial displacement is literally tearing our community fabric apart. >> that woman is one of several people on a hunger strike outside san jose city hall. they started friday and plan to continue until the vote. >> this morning, the commemoration of a day that changed san francisco forever. the 1906 quake and fires that followed destroyed 80% of the

city. today, a moment of silence for the thousands who lost their lives. tiffany wilson is live at market for us. testifiny? >> reporter: the annual ceremony took place here behind me, and it kicked off a fundraising drive to install a memorial on this wall. so far, the san francisco history association has raised five of the $22,000 needed. in the dark and damp, san francisco gathered this morning to remember the devastating disaster. at 5:12, sirens sounded. an erie while to struck. historians say more than 3,000 people died in the great earthquake and fire. it was here families posted notices for lost loved ones. >> there's never been a plaque placed here to commemorate the 1906 earthquake.

bart officials are expected to see how much fare jumpers cost the agency. some estimate millions. bart plans to spend $8,000 next year to hire six full-time inspectors to roam the lines and find cheaters. they plan to spend $2 million to raise turnstiles making them harder to jump over. bart believes powerful magnets solve the mysterious problem that again delayed commuters

live breaking news. >> we are tracking breaking news out of fairfield moments ago, capturing the scene for us of a bad crash on interstate 80 westbound involving a big rig and another car here. wow. a lot of of debris. safety recording one person is trapped inside the other car with the big rig on top of them right now. right now, two lanes blocked. crews are working. you can see to try to free that person. authorities also declared a hazmat situation of the area because of spilled chemicals from the trash. we'll monitor this in the news
