different locations, all within a minute. >> let's get to abc 7 news reporter laura anthony live in fresno for us this evening. laura? >> reporter: hi, kristen. this is still very much a crime scene. i am standing on fulton street in downtown fresno. this is where the shooting rampage ended near catholic charities not far from the courthouse. and other government buildings. police say this man corey ali muhammad went on a shooting rampage just before 11:00 this morning. one that left three men dead. it started a few blocks from here when muhammad fired at one man, we're told missing him with that stray bullet. hitting another man sitting in the passenger side of a pg&e truck, killing that man. from there according to witnesses and the police, he walked a couple more blocks, reloaded a large hand gun and continued firing. the last sick tim hit near here near catholic charities. he was then tackled by a fresno police officer and as he was

being arrested, shouted the arabic term for god is great, allahu akbar. >> we looked at his facebook. we know he has some posts that says that he does not like white people. and also posts that he has expressed some anti-government sentiments. >> reporter: police said they had been searching for muhammad in connection with last thursday's murder of a security guard. that is 25-year-old carl williams outside a motel 6, also here in fresno. now we're back live near downtown fresno. you can see an active crime scene. we have police evidence, technicians out there gathering evidence and though police won't specify a motive, they are saying thipt there is no clear link to terrorism, but there may be indications that this was a hate crime, that as muhammad recently posted, racist

today. >> reporter: remorseful, maybe, forgiveness, maybe notme. it was a tearful day for family and friends of the two murder victims and a day of reckoning for the three killers. the three killers appeared in court facing the victims' families and friends. 19-year-old lila the youngest of the three at the time of the murders. 24-year-old morrison lamply and sean an gol because he'll be in protective custody while serving his sentence. he turns state's witnesses testifying against the two. the three were convicted of murdering canadian back packer audrey kerry in golden gate park during the crime spree two years ago. two days later steve carter of marin county and his dog were shot to death along a hiking trail near fairfax. in court, the emotional painful impact statements from the victims' families. carter, steve's wife. >> you became cold blooded

murderers. so now prepare to pay for it. >> reporter: prosecutor read a letter from audrey kerry's mother who lives in montreal. >> they should serve the highest sentence and i really hope none of them are ever released from prison. >> reporter: the killers had their own statements saying they were remorseful. lila's words to the families. >> i feel so much guilt and shame for the wrongdoing. i'm sorry. i'm sorry. >> reporter: the reaction outside court. >> it left me with nothing. it pretty much left me with nothing. >> there is no clarification really for whatever punishment they will get. >> reporter: sean got 15 years to life. lila received 50 years. and morrison lamply the actual shooter got 100 years to life.

vic lee, abc 7 news. >> and we are hearing tonight about a missing boy in pleasanton. police there released this picture of daniel romeo. he is 11 years old last seen near lie dick son elementary school. not far from stone ridge shopping center. daniel was wearing a red jacket and blue jeans. if you see him, please call police. >> police are looking for a man who attacked an 11 year old girl on her way to school. the girl told police the man blew a kiss at her and showed her a nude photo of a woman as he -- at 7:50 yesterday morning. the girl ran and hid behind a parked car and called her mom who alerted police. the suspect is described as a white male in his late 30s or early 40s. bald on top with dirty blonde hair on the sides. he was drivin an early 2000 model white suv, possibly a toyota, with a bike rack on top. sky 7 flew over interstate 80 in fairfield while fire

fighters worked for two hours to free a woman from her mangled suv. and looking at this, it is incredible. she suffered only minor injuries. as you can see, a big rig was also involved in the chain reaction crash along westbound 80 fle 80 near the air base parkway. highway patrol officers tell us the suv overturned after a honda hit it. the big rig then smashed into a small car. crews also contained spilled diesel fuel from the truck. >> minor injuries, that is amazing. renters rights advocates made a surprise appearance at silicon valley comic con in san jose. they protested behind apple co-founder steve wozniak as he received a commend asian. the activist showed up because san jose city council members were there. and the city council is holding a meeting tonight on this very issue. it is promising to be a late evening as the issue of evictions take center stage. more now from abc 7 news reporter david louie. >> reporter: san jose has held 12 public meetings about evictions, but this one is the one that counts. that's why the council chambers

are packed with tenants and landlords, each trying to steer the outcome of a proposed ordinance that gives protection to renters that takes away some rights from property owners. >> what do we want? when do we want it? >> now. >> for the past week aggrieved tenants told their stories of being evicted for no cause. some are even engaged in a hunger strike. the council is far from agreement. >> i think this legislation goes a little bit too far. and i think it may even wind up in the courts. >> reporter: the oerngs would make it difficult for landlords to evict tenants without specific causes such as nonpayment of rent, destroying property, or violating terms of a lease. landlords worry their hands will be tied to evict suspected drug dealers and others they deem undesirable. mayor sam liccardo hopes to find a balance. >> we can't have systems that just tell people you have to go to court if you're going to be able to enforce this. and many of our residents of course won't be able to afford an attorney or get access to an attorney. really have the sophistication to navigate a bureaucratic maze.

so, we've got to make it workable. and that's going to be a focus for me. >> it is estimated over 87,000 units will be impacted by the proposed ordinance. do you think they've made up their minds or their minds are still open? >> i think they probably made up their minds already. >> reporter: the council has three options. to accept it, to reject it or send it out for more amendments and/or study. in san jose, david louie, abc 7 news. >> and a restaurant has been issued for the former general manager of antioch's robby ranch golf course. 46-year-old kevin fitzgerald is wanted on several charges, including grand theft and insurance fraud. it closed august because of financial trubz. the family had gotten an $800,000 loan for a solar panel project. prosecutors say fitzgerald embezzled some of that money. an arrest warrant has been issued for the san diego based solar contractor who received nearly $700,000 in proceeds from the loan, but never installed the panels.

a new state audit says the dnv is doing a poor job of managing the disabled person placard program. they ensure applications for the placards as well as license plates are legitimate. it found nearly 26,000 placard holders were aged 100 or older. and that the department hasn't cancelled placards for 35,000 people who are probably deceased. >> b.a.r.t. says it may be losing up to $25 million a year to cheaters who jump the fare gates. you've seen these folks. watch closely as a b.a.r.t. rider approaches on the right and then just squeezes past the gates without paying. and then we barely caught this next guy jumping the gate as well. b.a.r.t. says it is already addressed this problem at the pittsburgh bay point station by putting new side gates in. riders will now have to ask the agent to be buzzed in and out. they may hire fare inspectors to

make it cheaper and faster to payoff student loans. their proposal calls for california to establish a $25 million fund that would help lower interest rates. supporters say california college seniors graduate with about $22,000 in student debt on average, and they believe that hurts college graduates and our economy. >> a lot of people who used to be able to take for granted they could go to college at an affordable rate, get out of college with a low debt and be able to move on with their life and starts making major life decisions they're not able to make those decisions. people are putting off decision s to get married. people are putting off decisions to buy a house. >> the bill needs to pass both the state assembly and the senate before governor jerry brown can decide on it, of course. governor brown has hinted he may not sign any bills that need new sources of funding. >> celebrity bounty hunter testified against proposed changes for the california bail system at a hearing in san francisco today. duane chat man better nonas dog

the sheer cliff face offered no place to drop a rope. so, they brought in this chopper despite the strong winds and rain. the rescue, as you can see, was a success. safe and sound. it's nesting season in downtown oakland and that means birds are in the trees and the young ones are falling out of them. the golden gate audubon society zoo to come to the aid of those who just can't make it. when the birds hit the hard concrete, they can't get back up in the trees because they're so tall. the birds are taken to the international rescue center in fairfield where they are assessed for injuries. once the birds are well enough and deemed ready to fly and fend for themselves, they will be released into the wild. >> this is interesting. pigeons are not considered to be generally that intelligent, right? new research reveals in one particular way, they are more like humans than any other creature. scientists at oxford university found that homing pigeons are the only known species that can build and pass on wisdom just
