to speak on camera, muhammad's father said he talked about killing people more than a decade ago. >> kori came to fresno to shoot up a church. i told his parole officer this. and i said to him, if you don't get him help, he's going to carry out. >> reporter: there is one piece of this puzzle still outstanding. this is the memorial that is growing here near catholic charities. this is also where they say the suspect dropped his weapon near a pile of clothing. police today say they have video surveillance that shows that that gun was actually picked up by what appears to be an hispanic man, that the gun was taken away from this area. they are looking for that man. they are making a public plea for him to turn himself in. in fresno, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> laura, thank you. we have breaking news from contra costa county where there is a major b.a.r.t. delay at the walnut creek station because of

a person who is threatening suicide at that location. so, the station is closed right now. trains are being turned around at the lafayette and pleasant hill b.a.r.t. stations. a bus bridge has been set up to get riders between those stations and walnut creek. right now negotiators are trying to talk to the person in distress. the transit agency says riders should expect some lengthy delays all through the evening rush hour. we'll bring you an update as soon as we get more information and reminder you can download the abc 7 news app and enable the push alerts for instant updates on this story. >> an intense search is underway off the coast of marin county after a capsized boat was found near the beach. sky 7 was over the zod iac today. you can see the boat take ong water. the coast guard says it doesn't know how many people if any were on the boat, but they do say they found an ice chest with fresh ice on board. coast guard helicopters, boats and jet skis are searching the water. someone who spotted the vessel reported it to authorities. >> u.c. berkeley's campus republicans say a speech by conservative commentator ann

coulter will go on even though school officials have denied a permit for that event. cal's campus republicans invited coulter to appear on campus next thursday. campus officials and u.c. police claim they found out about coulter's event in a newspaper article instead of from the student gop group. the campus also expressed fears of violence given what happened during recent protests when former breitbart editor milo yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak on campus back in february. that event was also canceled, bus not before there was all kinds of confrontations with police and violence broke out. the eight berkeley police officers who were hurt during saturday's anti- and pro-donald trump protest at civic center park suffered some serious injuries including hearing loss because of illegal explosives thrown at them. this a letter by chief andrew greenwood obtained by abc 7 news. other officers were hurt afternoon being exposed to pepper pray and one also suffered a knee jury. greenwood writes 3 people were

arrested. viewing tips, videos and saying more arrests are imminent. >> the dmv conducted a sting operation in san jose today into drivers using other people's disabled parking placards. eight people were cited. >> this happened one day after the state auditor said the dmv should be doing more stings to crackdown on abuse. abc 7 reporter david louie accompanied the officers at dawn today as a string of violations unfolded. >> reporter: the day didn't start out too well for a young san jose state student named mike when he showed up for class, he parked his car by a curb painted blue. the disabled parking placard was checked by a dmv officer. the placard was registered to mike's father and can't be used by anyone else. so, mic received a citation and the placard was seized. >> i didn't know that my dad had to be present at the time. it was a first -- this is my first offense so -- >> reporter: are you sorry? >> i am sorry. >> reporter: the citation will cost him up to $1,000 and mike is not alone. >> excuse me, i need to see your

closed indefinitely. a land slide is pushing up against an old run down bridge and owe initials are worried it could collapse. >> definitely going to be days, could be months, could be permanent until the bridge -- until the land is stabilized, we can't even think about replacing the bridge which is in the works. >> reporter: the bridge serves a few groups of people. commuters use this cut through to get from morag to oakland. >> not everybody that uses this path is going to now be impacted, impacting everybody else going down to lafayette and n oren da. this is a nightmare. >> reporter: how much time is this going to add to your commute? >> at least 25, 30 minutes, yeah. >> reporter: there are about 100 homes in canyon. those residents are now cut off from the town of moraga and there is a school in canyon with about 70 students. >> this is only eight weeks of school, but still it's a big deal. there are a lot of people that go to the school that come in this way so it's really awful.

>> reporter: to get to canyon or to get out of it people are now going to have to go through oakland and through the tunnel on highway 24. it is going to take much longer. in moraga, amy holly field, abc 7 news. >> a portion of the california coastal trail and half moon bay is closed. at least through saturday as crews tear down a home in danger of falling off a bluff. all ka traz avenue, it happened on bay state beach. the state parks department said the trail will stay closed until the project is completed. >> for years pg&e has been asking people to call before you dig. this year that warning may be even more important. abc 7 news was in san jose's rose garden neighborhood as pg&e workers marked underground gas lines. the utility says people repairing fences and replacing trees are in increased danger of hitting a gas or power line. that's because flooding and mudslides may have washed away topsoil and actually changed the depth of those utility lines. >> electric line might have

san jose state university police are warning women to be careful as they search for the man who tried to assault a female jogger on campus last night. that suspect described as a black man in his 40s, about 6'3" with a mole on the left side of his face. as abc 7 news reporter matt keller tells us, this incident has some students really worried. >> always walk together in pairs, stuff like that. we're always on our headphones. take those off every once in a while. makes it easier for peopl peopll sneak up on you. >> reporter: police are investigating an attempt battery on a student. they say it happened on east san fernando and seventh street last night at about 7:45. a female jogger was running in the area.

a man tried to grab her. she was able to break-free free and started running east. the victim ran a few hundred yards with the man chasing after her as she tried to get away. the jogger ended up on south tenth street. she ended up jumping into another student's vehicle getting way from her attacker. >> police say the suspect was last seen at the corner of east san fernando and south tenth street. officers searched the area but didn't find him. this comes a week-and-a-half after a man was arrested for allegedly groping five women at san jose state. 32-year-old see czar was spotted on surveillance video and identified by victims. this just reaffirms to some students to be extra careful around campus. >> make sure not to walk around by myself at night just because a bunch of things have happened in the past. and i don't want to be the one to get hurt. >> reporter: police agree with students. walk in groups if you can. and if you see anyone acting suspiciously, call police. in san jose, matt keller, abc 7

news. >> $1.7 million, that's how much u.c. regents have agreed to pay over the next ten years in a sexual harassment settlement. the u.c. berkeley employee claimed a former law school dean hugged, kissed and touched her while she worked as his executive assistant. school officials did nothing about it. he is one of several u.c. berkeley employees since 2015 to face sexual harassment allegations substantiated by the university. well, the warriors host portland tonight in game two of the playoff series and the dubs, they may be without all star forward kevin durant. >> k.d. has a strained calf. it will be a game time decision. steve kerr would rather rest durant tonight make sure he's healthy for a long playoff run. mike shumann is live at the oracle arena. any update on k.d.'s status at this point? >> reporter: well, larry, you and i normally talk to the coaching staff prior to the game and can get some information. the standard line today is, game

areas. tonight we'll see low temperatures rather mild as well. even as showers arrive, probably because of the showers, temperatures won't drop very much. so, lows will generally be in the low to mid 50s going into the early morning hours. the storm ranks 1 on the storm impact scale, storm of light intensity. it will produce light showers, maybe a quarter of an inch. other locations in the bay area, barely up to a tenth of an inch. forecast animation starting this afternoon, right now as a matter of fact, into late night tonight, by 11:00 we'll see the first wave, only through sustained wave as a matter of fact of rain. moving into the north bay. that will swing south ward after midnight and it will be -- we'll see a few trailing showers. it will be breaking up as we get into the morning commute. by 7:00, 8:00 tomorrow morning it should be pretty much over. skies will start to clear out, giving way to sunny conditions by afternoon. and rainfall totals won't amount to much either. let me give you the day planner tomorrow. after the low morning, damp roads, we'll see sunny, sunny,

for all of our viewers at home, you are getting a good view of the line of people waiting there. any estimation on how long, even if the situation were to be remedied within the next half hour, how much this could last on this delay for riders tonight? >> we're looking at a half an hour or more. right now if it were to be resolved right now because of cascading delays throughout the rest of the system, hopefully it gets resolved as quickly as possible. our goal is to do that, dee escalate the situation without any loss of life. that is you're big goal right now. we're happy to have trains moving through the area. again, we hope that will help out with some of the crowding at lafayette. we appreciate everybody's patience as we deal with this difficult issue. >> taylor, approximately how many riders do you have in that vicinity typically? we're looking at a huge crowd right now at one of the b.a.r.t. stations in the east bay. i presume all of these people are waiting for the bus bridge. how many patrons does b.a.r.t. have in that vicinity on a typical afternoon? >> well, it's many thousands, and that's the big problem right now because each ten-car train

that comes in, it's around 1500 people. so, we're happy to have trains moving through there again just because we can't have that many people backing up at lafayette station. it is many, many thousands are heading home. >> all right. taylor, thank you for the time and we'll keep people updated on the situation with bart in the east bay as we continue this afternoon on abc 7 news. >> well, last year police made eight arrests crews cleaned up 17,0 17,000 pounds of trash at golden gate park in san francisco. this year they are taking steps to control tomorrow's ian poulter. abc 7 news reporter vic lee is live at the park to take a look at the changes. vic. >> reporter: this is hippy hill in golden gate park. this is where all the buzz is going to be tomorrow. as we pan our camera before the garbage truck gets over, you can see people already staking out the ground, high on that hill right on the grass. this is what it looked like last

year on 4/20, a sea of humanity at golden gate park. 10,000 people, most of them with a buzz, 4:20, the time and day long associated with the marijuana smoking holiday. an organic counter culture smokeout. the day also produced ten tons of trash and numerous arrests. cost to the city last year for clean up and security, $100,000. supervisors president london breed said it is what it is. >> this event, as i said, it's going to happen whether we want the event to happen or not. >> reporter: the city still won't sanction 4:20 tomorrow but it will try to control it. >> there will be no drugs for sale, no unauthorized music, and no permitted concessions, and no alcohol. >> reporter: for the first time the city will partner with merchants mostly from the haight. the group is headed by alex aquino who owns a nearby store. >> we want to keep the beautiful park beautiful.

and upper haight clean and safe. >> reporter: they have raised $100,000 to help defray the city's costs. there will be more port-a-potties, garbage cans, security, improved food stalls, and help with the clean up afterwards. they are paying for this fence around the perimeter with only two entrances to hippy hill. manned by security. >> 4:20 is no event for children. we do not want children at this event. >> reporter: so, how does all this sound to those tripping out tomorrow? >> i think it's okay. it's been really packed and out of control the last few years. >> we've been begging for mort port a potties and garbage cans and all that. >> reporter: well, so, this year the city is experimenting with a different approach. well, as supervisor president london breed said earlier today, 4:20 is going to happen whether city hall likes it or not. so, they might as well get involved by doing something about it. vic lee, abc 7 news. >> and, vic, what about road

closures and detours to accommodate the thousands that are expected to be there tomorrow? >> reporter: well, the city says there will be no road closures tomorrow as there was last year when they closed one direction of kesar drive because of the crest of people. the reason for that is there will only be two entrances to hippy hill tomorrow because of that perimeter fence i was talking about. so, it will be easier to manage crowd control. and, of course, there will be shuttles, we are told, along jfk drive to transport people here to civic center. back to you. >> vic lee, thank you so much. >> massachusetts state police say they have launched an investigation into former nfl star aaron hernandez's death in prison. police say he took his own life in a jail cell earlier today. abc news reporter emily rau has the details. >> the defendant not guilty? guilty of murder in the first degree or guilty of murder in the second degree? >> not guilty. >> reporter: just days after he was found not guilty for the

2012 murder of two men, aaron hernandez used a bed sheet to hang himself in his jail cell. it happened here at a maximum security prison in massachusetts where hernandez was serving a life sentence for murdering his friend oden lloyd, a semi professional football player who was dating his fiance's sister. the prison saying hernandez showed no signs he might try to hurt himself. >> it was a bit of a shocker for me. >> reporter: a sheriff who knew hernandez from another facility surprised to hear of his death. >> always known aaron hernandez to be somebody who was in complete control. >> reporter: hernandez roads to fame as an american tight end playing the university of florida winning the 2009 national championship. he played for the new england patriots from 2010 to 2012. the team cut hernandez in 2013 following his arrest for the lloyd murder. now attorneys for hernandez promising a separate investigation. a state senator pointing to a bigger problem in the state's

prisons. >> massachusetts has among the highest suicide rates for prisoners in correction officers. >> reporter: his former teammates not commenting, spending the day at the white house with president trump. officials haven't found a suicide note. hernandez was in general population officials saying, there was no indication he might hurt himself. emily, rau, abc news, new york. >> hernandez's death makes him an innocent man under massachusetts state law. a convicted criminal is automatically considered innocent if they die like hernandez did without exhausting all of their legal appeals. now, this also means evidence used to convict hernandez cannot be used in any civil lawsuits against his estate. >> america's 45th president george h.w. bush is still in the houston hospital recovering from a mild case of pneumonia. today a family spokesperson said the 92-year-old continues to gain strength and his spirits are high. bush was admitted to to the hospital friday with a persistent cough. doctors diagnosed it as
