there are trash receptacles inside. you can't bring in barbecue grills, your own music. it's a whole different atmosphere. the difference starts at the security gate. there is one this year where park rangers check bags for weapons and glass bottles. they're teaming up with m merchants to make this a safer event. >> we're trying to provide the infrastructure to make it safe for the people here, for the park and the neighborhood. >> reporter: while california's recreational marijuana law doesn't fully take effect until next year, the city has decided it's better to help reign in the event than stop it. recollect and park is spending $50,000 on cops and park rangers on the perimeter. local merchants are spending $100,000 on security inside as well as port-a-potties and trash cans. >> it's safe and clean. i think that's a better step moving forward. but i'd rather have it existing than not existing. er >> reporter: the same goes for people who were rolling up,

lighting up and loading up. this man who would only call himself sam i am was in the park for the summer of love in 1967. >> and i'm just here for this again. i'm burning daylight. i'll never be this young again so i'm making the most of every day. >> reporter: this young lady likes this year's version better than last year which left 22,000 pounds of trash on the park grounds. >> that's why there is security this year. things were pretty out of control last year. >> reporter: we werot smoking was okay, but no selling inside the event was allowed. based on what we witnessed, that's not entirely true, but no arrests have been made. >> everybody is smiling, everybody is having a good time. there's good music. weed, food, why not? >> reporter: and we continue to watch long lines of people file in to golden gate park. folks started coming this morning, but as you might imagine, the peak time is supposed to be 4:20 this afternoon, the official event continues on till dusk. that's when people are supposed to begin clearing out of golden gate park.

of course, we'll have another update for you coming up live at 6:00, live at golden gate park, eric thomas abc 7 news. >> all right, eric, thank you. after a nationwide manhunt police say they found the 15-year-old tennessee girl who disappeared with her teacher last month here in california. the two were found in the town of cecilville that's in sis que county northwest of redding. she disappeared from her home on march 15. court papers filed recently in the girl's disappearance say she was afraid of tad cummins and she would face repercussions at school if she resisted him. the county sheriff revealed the cross-country trip took them through the bay area. >> they visited various sites in the region. for example in berkeley, california, and they visited the black bear ranch which is a commune in the general area where they were located in the cabin. >> here's a look at cummins' booking photo which we just got

in our newsroom a few minutes ago. coming up at 4:30 what we learned about the two who were finally found. meanwhile mountain view police found a 15-year-old girl found a short time ago in woodland. police say she left crit enden middle school yesterday. they called hours later to report that myra never returned home. >> in developing news, san leandro police say they arrested a man trying to abduct the baby boy. both appeared in court this afternoon. sky 7 flew above downtown san leandro after shots were fired at mcdonald's on washington avenue monday. she stood up from the table, left the mcdonald's and fired through a window of the car where brooks' 11 month old son was sitting with his mother. police say there is no doubt the baby was the intended target. neither he nor his mother was hurt. >> happening tonight a visual for one of the three people killed on tuesday and what

fresno police are calling a series of racially motivated shootings. detectives say the suspect, 39-year-old kori ali muhammad sought to kill as many white people as he could. officers arrested muhammad within minutes of three people being shot and killed on tuesday. muhammad is also suspected in the murder of a motel 6 security guard last week. they are expected to press charges tomorrow. >> three homes were entered before shooting a resident. a man who lives in sequoia heights below sky line boulevard. >> that's where abc 7 news reporter laura anthony is at now. you talked to one man whose home was broken into. >> reporter: detectives are trying to develop any leads that will lead them to the suspect. as for the resident who was shot, a 30-year-old man, the last word, he is in stable condition. the shooting has left his neighbors rattled at a time when many of them were at home. ♪

steve chappelle told us this is exactly where he was sitting in an upstairs office, music playing while downstairs a burglar was breaking into his town house in the oakland hills. even going so far as to lock his dog, junior, outside. >> he entered, locked my dog in the backyard by moving a piece of furniture in front of the dog door. and then rummaged around. he went in my refrigerator, went through a couple closets, apparently stole nothing, though. and then exited through my front door. >> reporter: there were actually a couple items missing a soda and string cheese from the refrigerator. >> i happened to look out the window and there was my screen hanging sideways all bent up. >> reporter: clarence says the man tried to get into his house. >> and i went out to open -- to close the gate and i noticed that all the gates down the way and that's when i started notifying the neighbors. >> reporter: the suspect entered at least three homes on chimney rock court, the final stop, this home where the burglar entered

through this window and shot a 30-year-old resident standing in his kitchen. >> i hope it's one off, some crazy guy who is never going to come back. >> reporter: police searched the sequoia heights neighborhood wednesday night but turned up no suspects. they are reviewing surveillance video to try to identify the suspect in a car that may be related. in oakland, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> there is new video of a confrontation between a man and the sonoma county sheriff's deputy charged with felony assault. we warn you, you might find the video disturbing. >> stand up. >> i'm not standing up. in my house, i'm sleeping. you have i have you on video. go ahead. taz me. >> the tazed man recorded the 60 second video in his hot springs home. deputies were called out by neighbors who heard him and his wife arguing. he says they broke down his bedroom door. the man's attorney says he refused to stand and was tazed

santa rosa, 67 napa, 68 novato, 69 in livermore. on an evening like this, why not get out in enjoy the weather if you can. here is your evening planner. it's going to be nice and sunny up until the sun sets at 7:50. skies will be clear through the entire evening with temperatures dropping off only slightly from mild mid 60s at sunset to mainly mid and upper 50s as we get into the late night hours. i'll give you a look at what is coming up for the weekend and when our next chance of rain may develop in a few minutes. larry? >> thank you, spencer. see you then. you're looking at the damage caused when a tree fell onto a home in guerneville and it is extensive. the russian river fire district tells us nobody was inside the house on hey lane when this accident happened this morning. that tree knocked out electricity to nearby homes. pg&e expects to restore power to more than 100 customers by this evening. sonoma county crews removed that tree from the roadway but the homeowner will have to deal with the rest of it and it is extensive. >> one person died when two

vehicles collided head on on niles canyon road near fremont. the highway patrol says a blue jeep and large red truck smashed into each other just before 8:30 this morning. the victim died at the scene. no one else was hurt. also in the east bay, drivers heading westbound on 580 in richmond faced a serious traffic back up this afternoon. sky 7 was over a gravel spill just east of canal boulevard. cal trans had to close down all but one lane of the freeway as they worked to clean up that spill. >> the coast guard says it's recovered the body of a man whose boat capsized off muir beach yesterday. 64-year-old juki dieng was found last night not far from his boat. a good samaritan notified the coast guard yesterday morning about dang's capsized fiberglass boat, the wallet and car keys were found on the skiff. >> an open house will be held today to discuss ongoing noise concerns at the san carlos airport. the federal aviation administration study is designed

long-time san francisco cable car conductor is in jail accused of taking passenger fares. he was arraigned this afternoon. >> abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow is live outside the hall of justice. melanie, police are trying to figure out how long this has been going on. >> reporter: exactly. this is an ongoing investigation. there is some evidence that we heard today in court that suggests possibly for years, but they are still trying to figure that out. today the cable car conductor pleaded not guilty. he's being held on $50,000 bail. we also heard the judge say that he has six prior misdemeanor convictions, mostly for theft, and more than 30 aliases. san francisco is synonymous with

them. >> cable cars are part of san francisco. >> it's just iconic. >> reporter: now 20-year-old sfmta albert williams who was a cable car conductor for 15 years is accused of em bez lingez hundreds of dollars, maybe more. >> his coworkers are outraged and that doesn't describe it. >> reporter: he didn't give passengers receipts after not giving them money. >> that was the red flag. >> reporter: an audit uncovered the president-elect. they turned the information over to the controllers office and sfpd. it identified more than $900,000 stolen. in looking back five years, the san francisco's da's office, he had exceedingly lower totals on the same route and same shift as other conductors. >> i'm concerned because it makes us all look bad. >> reporter: the d.a.'s office also says investigators found $32,000 cash in a safe in williams' home receipts for high-end purchases, four to five

low temperatures range from mid and upper 40s to the inland valleys to right around 50s near the bay. sunny and warm in some spots. high temperatures will be in the upper 70s to low 80s in our i understand land locations. around the bay upper 70s upper 60s on the coast, almost beach weather. for some people it probably is. here's your friday planner. segment by segment, clear skies, near 70 by noon, upper 70s to low 80s in the afternoon and some of our inland areas and sunset, 7:51 tomorrow evening under clear skies. let's look at the high temperature trend for the week ahead. san jose's average high for tomorrow's date is 71 did he gleez. tomorrow's high will be 81. ten degrees above average. that pattern will be reflected all around the bay area as most locations will be several degrees above average. temperatures moderate saturday, dropping below average sunday, bouncing back up to right around average on monday and going into the cloudy part of next week we'll see temperatures sort of

fox news is severing ties with bill o'reilly and now we're getting more details about the huge pay out he can expect. he's expected to get tens of millions of dollars. jessica with abc 7 mornings has the details. >> reporter: after the sudden end to his primetime show, the o'reilly factor. >> you are about to enter the no spin zone. it begins right now. >> reporter: bill o'reilly could get a whopping paycheck. just days before his exit, he reportedly signed a new contract worth 25 million per year and that could earn him a massive pay out according to cnn. after years of sexual harassment allegations and millions of dollars in pay outs, reportedly to at least five women, fox news ditched o'reilly. during the scandal, 83 ad buyers dropped out. >> bill o'reilly who hosted this program for 20 years is leaving the fox news channel. >> reporter: the break up was quick. after yesterday's announcement, the show dumped his name, it's now simply called the factor. >> they want their audience to

>> announcer: live where you live, this is abc 7 news. >> and here are the headlines making or the stories making headlines at 4:30. police in san leandro arrested a man and woman accused of trying to kill an 11-month-hold baby boy. police say marcel brooks is the boy's father and adonna is the shooter who has another child with brooks. the shooting happened at the downtown mcdonald's at washington plaza on monday afternoon. the child was with his mother and was not hurt. coming up at concerns after a new deal was reached to host conservative commentator ann colter and why colter felt she had to take a

stand. abc news tweeted showing the heavy police in paris after a gunman shot and killed a police officer and wounded two other officers. we'll have the latest on that shooting in just a few minutes. and developing news now in a national kidnapping case that ended near the california/oregon boarder. a tennessee teenager missing nearly six weeks now safe. her teacher in federal custody. we just learned their cross-country trip took them right through the bay area including a stop in berkeley. abc news reporter ariel is live with the details of how they were found. ariel? >> reporter: larry, the teen and her teacher were found in northern california in a cabin more than 2000 miles away from home. now authorities are stuck trying to unravel their weeks on the run. an agonizing ordeal coming to a close. >> this is a wonderful god send for our country. >> reporter: 15-year-old elizabeth thomas found alive and safe in a residence in a remote area of the northernmost county

of california. her alleged cap or in custody. >> this morning authorities in siskew followed up on a tip and found elizabeth and arrested ted cummins. she will soon be on her way back home. >> reporter: the county sheriff's deputies located and rescued the team. thomas a has been the subject of a nationwide amber alert since march 14. her teacher 50-year-old ted cummins accused of having an inappropriate relationship with her, kidnapping her, then leading law enforcement on a cross-country manhunt. the two were spotted in a wal-mart in oklahoma. after the disappearance cummins family spoke with abc news plead fogg -- plead fogger hing for him t. >> if he comes home, he's not going to do nothing. >> reporter: the rogue they had been traveling in, later leading them to the pair.

and authorities from tennessee are now on their way to northern california to pickup thomas and reunite her with her family tomorrow. ariel, abc 7 news. >> ariel, what's next for cummins? >> reporter: so, cummins is now in the siskew county jail. he is awaiting arraignment tomorrow and also extradition to tennessee. back to you, larry. >> all right. ariel reporting live. thank you. >> developing right now in paris, investigators say a gunman targeted policemen opening fire on their patrol car. abc 7 news reporter has the latest from washington. >> reporter: shots fired on paris police 9:00 p.m. local time, a gunman jumped out of a vehicle and opened fire at a police car stopped at a red light. one officer killed, two officers injured. he ran way and was shot and killed by officers.

>> what can you say? just never ends. we have to be strong and we have to be vigilant. >> reporter: the white house monitoring the situation. french authorities have opened a terror investigation as they work to figure out who is behind the attack and if the gunman acted alone. kenneth, abc news washington. >> this was the scene in seattle just a few hours ago. police swarmed the downtown area after two officers were shot. they are responding to a robbery at a 7-eleven. the suspect shot at officers as they took off. one officer was hit in the chest, the other in the rib cage. neither injury is severe. a third officer was hit in the head with a bottle by a female su spec. two were detained, a third is on the loose. >> in the wake of the united airlines bumping fiasco, another incident of airport rage, a passenger facing accusations after hitting the pilot. you are about to see the a dak in missouri. all of a sudden a man shoves an american airlines pilot in the lobby area. this took place at kansas city international airport.

it happened moments after the two men had been passengers on a flight from dallas. police say the suspect told them the pilot blocked the aisle and was disrespectful to other people on board. the suspect is due in court next month. >> the tsa failed to follow proper procedures when they let an off-duty officer fly with a hand gun in her carry-on bag. she boarded in los angeles for vacation in taiwan last thursday. the officer is now barred from leaving taiwan because she entered the country with a gun after screeners missed it in l.a. santa monica police say it was the officer's personal gun. >> now, if you didn't see this, it would really be hard to believe. a truck driver in southern california dragged a car that was lodged in his truck nearly three quarters of a mile all the way down the freeway. this happened on interstate 15 going up cajon pass. you see the driver waving for help. the truck hit him while trying to change lanes.

pg&e learned a tragic lesson we can never forget. this gas pipeline ruptured in san bruno. the explosion and fire killed eight people. pg&e was convicted of six felony charges including five violations of the u.s. pipeline safety act and obstructing an ntsb investigation. pg&e was fined, placed under an outside monitor, given five years of probation, and required to perform 10,000 hours of community service. we are deeply sorry. we failed our customers in san bruno. while an apology alone will never be enough, actions can make pg&e safer. and that's why we've replaced hundreds of miles of gas pipeline, adopted new leak detection technology that is one-thousand times more sensitive,

and built a state-of-the-art gas operations center. we can never forget what happened in san bruno. that's why we're working every day to make pg&e the safest energy company in the nation. two new crew members are now on board the international space station. american jack fisher and russia's theodore arrived six hours after blasting off from a russian base in kazakhstan. the capsule had one empty seat. russia is scaling back space station staffing until its long delayed science laboratory is flown to the orbiting outpost next year. china released this video today at the launch of its first unmanned cargo spacecraft.

there are two suspects. marcel brooks and adanna ibe. this happened in san leandro. >> abc 7 news reporter is live from the hayward hall of justice where the couple was just arraigned. ann? >> reporter: you know, this is one of those complicated cases. this happened on monday at about 2:30 in the afternoon. police in san leandro say the father of that baby was supposed to meet with the mother inside that mcdonald's. mcdonald's restaurant. he never showed up. instead, police say his former girlfriend did and attempted to shoot the baby. san leandro police are certain this couple intended to kill the 11-month-old baby boy who was inside this mcdonald's seated with his mother. >> during the course of the interview, we are confident that there is a conspiracy placed between these two subjects here to harm that child. >> reporter: police say
