>> live where you live, this is abc 7 news. here's a look at sky 7 over berkley park right now. not too many folks. demonstrators promised to gather throughout the afternoon despite the ann coulter speech cancellation. the question is, will she show up anyway? thank you for joining us. >> tensions running high on and around uc berkley campus now. ann coulter is hinting she'll walk through the cal campus although her appearance today has been scrapped due to security concerns, but police are preparing for potential conflict in the wake of violent

clashes in february over a planned speech by a conservaive provocateur. abc 7 news reporter is live at civic center park, amy? >> reporter: this is a pro-ann coulter group gathering here in burkely. the rally is not supposed to start until 2:00, but people are here, talking with the media, starting to gather and hang out. no protesting going on yet. definitely calm and peaceful. the protesters we talked to are from orange county. some with flags that say "trump" and here to stand up for free speech. right wing political commentators say they have ann's speech and plan to read it here today. there's hope ann, herself, makes a surprise appearance. another group here is respect berkley, a new group organizing in the last week, residents who are frustrated by outside people coming into berkley and turning violent, and they want to make a statement here that residents don't want that.

"creating an environment that prevents violence is not censorship, rather it is protection of free peach. ann did not take up the university's officer to have the event held at a time where we could ensure safety. to be clear, the decision to cancel the speech was that of coulter, not the university. back to sky 7 live over berkley. the first of three demonstrations today taking place at civic center park. that's what you are looking at. some of them carrying american flags there, just a couple blocks from campus. police are keeping a close eye on opposing groups now gathered. at 12 noon, they are planning on bancroft and telegraph, and 2:00 p.m., supporters demonstrate at civic cementer park as mentioned. berkley leaders are not should have how many will show up for the events, but planning for all possibilities. >> with concern about violation, nearby berkley high school is monitoring the situation. classes are on, but the school's

free speech week. he adds, the university does not cooperate, he'll make the event last a month. >> other news now, bart is now seeking arrest warrants to capture teenagers in a frightening mob attack. they identified several people responsible for robbing passengers on a train at the coliseum station in oakland saturday night. investigators identified them using surveillance video from the train carment up to 60 teens swarmed the train robbing and beating passengers. a two-alarm fire destroyed a home overnight. this is between benicia road and taylor avenue. they got calls someone was trapped inside, but no one was found. they knocked down the flames in ten minutes. two iron workers recovering this morning after a scary accident at a facebook construction site. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live. matt? >> reporter: reggie, i just spoke with cal osha, starting

the investigation. my photographer will zoom in here on the construction site. cal osha has not ordered the work site to be shut down, but no one now is working on the structure. it's really quiet out here in menlo park. this is a picture from firefighters capturing the scene after a beam suffered what's called a catastrophic failure. workers at the site say the two men worked forty feet high on facebook 21 before 5:30 last night, putting together the steel framing when that beam dropped about 20 feet, catching on to other parts of the construction, catapulting them to the ground. firefighters say the safety harnesses and rigging stopped the fall before hitting the grown. one in late 20s, other early 30s were taken to the hospital for pain. fire chief said it was miraculous they survived. cal osha said there's no previous incidents at the site and have six months to decide
