>> this has taken so long they deliver cell phones to a deadly shooting suspect hulled up in his car. thank you for joining us. >> this started yesterday afternoon after police say the shooter killed a woman at lock heed park and walnut creek, leading to a standoff still going on on center avenue. abc 7 news reporter is there where people are frustrated at how long this is taking. >> reporter: yeah. reggie, they are frustrated because it brought life to a stand still.

this is the neighborhood on lockdown. no one allowed in and out. this is at howe road. on the other side, it's douglas drive at center off highway 4. there's a school in the area that's closed for the day because of this. john muir elementary, and county offices are closed located off the highway, and, of course, this chevron is closed since last night because this man refuses to surrender to police. people are surprised that it's still going on and they are frustra frustrated. look at the video at what the swat team offered, sending him water, had a robot carry it over to him. they sent him cell phones to talk to him because his, of course, ran out of battery, and this has been going on for about 15 hours, 7:30 last night. a woman who says her daughter is stuck inside her home tried to go in to check on her. >> this has been going on since last night, and she says, you won't believe this, that i am

still stuck, so i just, you know, feel bad for her, and, you know, to be in lockdown like that. >> reporter: this man is wanted for the murder of a woman in walnut creek yesterday. police don't think it was random, but have not said the relationship between the victim and her killer. the man here did fire a shot out of the passenger window at midnight. no one hurt. now, this is a live picture of a drone that they have hovering right over his car. we presume they are getting a good view of what's going on inside that car. we have also seen the man holding a gun here and there, held it to his head. we have heard from frustrated residents, though, wondering where police can't taze the man or tranquilize him. no word from the police at this time. they are busy with the negotiation. live in martinez, amy

happened on our train, and we were not in the position to stop that from happening. >> reporter: acting chief jennings identified several suspects and warrants are out today for their arrest. bart has seen a significant increase in crime, 22% overall after three years of a steady decline. in fact, since mid-march, 19 people, ages 12-21 have been arrested for the same type of thing that happened saturday. >> this is not an unusual occurrence to think this -- unusual was there was so many of them. >> reporter: crime suppression is going on in oakland, san francisco, and a regional enforcement starts tuesday. >> what we are not going to do as a community is vilify youth of color in our great city of oakland. we are going to and need to

invest in solutions. >> a similar increase in robberies took place in 2014 followed by several arrests. abc 7 now some good news for bart raid ride riders. the new stations are on track to open by december, six months ahead of schedule. test trains expected to run this summer. the two stations expand bart service into the silicon valley. new details on the free speech controversy. this morning, the city's mayor responded to efforts to keep the peace in yesterday's dualing protests. mayor says, quote, proud the university, the city, and community stood shoulder to shoulder and allowed those with differing views to say their piece. we disagree, but defend the right to say it. we had a rule, do it peacefully, no violence, no vandalism, end of story. hundreds gathered, only seven

arrests. no one was hurt and no property damaged. the county sheriff's office warned about a sink hole. take a look there. the sheriff's office shared the photos on twitter showing that hole on sir francis drake bum vard. location is remote, but those going to the national park should expect delays throughout the weekend. man accused of attempts murder and hate crimes in custody in fairfield. police arounded matthew scott jones this morning after a series of fire bombings. jones set fire to a car last night, then early this morning, they say he set fire outside the fairfield police department. police arrested him after a short chase. investigators say two of jones' neighbors accuse him of using racial slurs against them this month. the 41st president bush released today from a texas hospital. >> in a hospital for two weeks,

lithuania man in 2013. the justice department says the man tricked google and facebook to pay for computer supplies by impersonating a large asian base manufacturer. the suspect is facing extradition from lithuania denies allegations. uber takes a step to prove it values drivers. cnn reports uber offers sick time and injury benefits to drivers in the u.k. those who have driven at least 500 trips are eligible. the san francisco based company received widespread criticism for not covering the cost of things like health care for its drivers. uber considers drivers independent contractors, not employees, and no word whether uber spreads this benefit-giving to u.s. drivers. and annual tradition takes flight in san jose. we'll introduce you to the year's new falcon family. >> if you wanted to learn self-defense, this weedo it, ane going to try it.

happening now, san francisco's great highway off limits because of blowing sand. this is way it looks like. right now southbound lanes are closed from lincoln way, and crews push the sand from the ocean side road. no word on how long it's going to take. >> great for joggers, though. >> apparently. we know more about the cute newborn falcons that make their home atop san jose city hall. according to the facebook page, there are two baby female falcons and one male falcon. a biologist repelled down the building this morning to find out the gender. the city says they will release information and video at a later date. i know you are already thinking of names because there's usually a naming contest, right? >> i was interested in seeing the person repelling down. if i were one of those birds, i'd be, like, are we being attacked? >> right. >> just want to know the gender.
