it's sunday, april 30th. good morning and thanks so much for waking up with us. i'm chris nguyen in for karen tyler. we're looking ahead to a warm day across the bay area. here's lisa argin with a first look at the doppler radar. >> hi, chris. we're going to see a repeat performance. a live look outside from our exploratory camera where it's nothing but sunshine. san francisco 59, oakland 61, mountain view 61. emoryville with lots of blue sky. 62 santa rosa. 61 in napa with 63 in concord, and yes, we are certainly cooler

this morning. do you feel it, anywhere from a degree to nine degrees down around hayward. we're looking at a marvelous afternoon with lots of sunshine. temperatures again will be on the warm side but that sea breeze kicks in in the afternoon, 60s at the coast. 80s inland, and for the first couple days in march, we're talking offshore flow. the heat is going to crank up and will really dry out the atmosphere. we'll talk more detail about that and a look at your 7-day forecast. police were forced to shut down a busy street in the mission after gunfire broke out. residents scrambled for safety. this happened around 9:15 last night on guerrero street between 14th and 15th near rosa parks lane. police tell us multiple shots were fired and a couple windows were broken. you can see the bullet holes in the glass. thankfully no one was injured. police are investigating what led up to the shooting. time now is 9:02. tragedy in the east bay. a toddler was hit and killed after he ran into traffic outside of a store in union

city. it happend yesterday afternoon in the parking lot of safeway and dollar tree on dakota road. police say the 23-month-old boy ran out into the parking lot from a store where his parents were shopping. the boy was hit by a slow-moving car and ended up underneath the vehicle. authorities say the driver is cooperating with the investigation. bart officials are taking a proactive approach in dealing with last week's mob-style robbery. they made a staffing decision, adding more police officers at the coliseum, fruitvale and andd fair stations. >> reporter: many bart police officers are working overtime as part of an emergency staffing call ordered after this. >> 30 kids boarded my train, beat up someone, robbed them and then ran off the train. >> reporter: the mob boarded a train and terrorized, robbed and beat passengers for what felt like an eternity. david, who did not want to be seen on camera, was on the train

that night. >> they were just approaching everyone, dude. they were approaching everyone. if you had something, they were taking it. fussed something wrong, they were beating you up. it was just all bad. >> reporter: bart police arrived five minutes after the first call for help. they were busy on a separate suicide call. but by the time they reached the coliseum station, the suspects were gone. that's why the department's top brass is making changes by staffing up for now. >> most of our officers work four days a week, 10-hour shifts, and they're going to be working five days a week in a 10-hour shift. >> bart has also seen a 22% jump in crimes this year. most are on-board robberies. riders, especially here at the coliseum station, worry about a repeat of last saturday night. >> i do ride the trains at night. that really scared me, so i'm glad that they're being proactive in doing something about it, and i really, really hope that helps.

>> i.n don't ride at night just for that situation. >> reporter: police have arrested at least one person. several other warrants have been issued. abc 7 news. time now is 9:05. we have new details this morning about this that deadly officer-involved shooting on the highway 101 in san mateo. it happened just after 5:30 friday afternoon just north of 92, leaving drivers stuck for more than six hours. the chp says the suspect was attempting a carjacking. here's lonnie rivero with an update. >> reporter: friday's rush hour commute came to a standstill after chp responded to a call about a vehicle collision and a man with a gun on highway 101 in the peninsula. >> based on the statements we have now, we know that this suspect was trying to use his firearm as a tool to steal the vehicle. >> reporter: sky 7 captured the suspect's gun lying on the side of the highway. witnesses shared cell phone

video with us. and this photo with officers raising their firearms toward the suspect. >> all three officers fired their weapons. >> shots fired, suspects down. >> reporter: police say witness accounts indicate those chp officers ordered the man to drop his gun. >> after many independent witness statements that officers took extreme measures to issue commands to drop that firearm, to attempt to deescalate and negotiate with that suspect. >> reporter: investigators haven't said much about their confrontation or what prompted the suspect to point his gun at the officers. but once they shot him, officers say they tried to revive the suspect. the driver of the other vehicle was unharmed as were the three chp officers. san mateo police are conducting an independent investigation as well as the d.a.'s office and california highway patrol. >> we are doing everything we can to backtrack the suspect's actions, obviously, of that day and days prior. >> reporter: they're hoping more witness accounts will provide a

better understanding about this chaotic, dangerous situation. in san mateo, lonnie rivera, abc 7 news. now to developing news out of the south where authorities have upped the number of dead to eight after storms, tornadoes and floods swept through missouri, texas and arkansas. tornadoes struck at least three small towns east of dallas last night. five people died, dozens more wre hospitalized. in arkansas and missouri, three people died in severe flooding. millions of people remain under flash flood watches. several states have received 11 inches of rain over the past few days. for the first time in 36 years, a sitting president skipped the white house correspondents' dinner. >> i think he's in pennsylvania because he can't take a joke. >> 100 days of devotion, hard work and love for our great country. >> at the end of his 100th day as president, donald trump

boycotted the well-known dinner for washington elites and instead celebrated way campaign-style rally with his supporters in pennsylvania. he pro claimed his first 100 days a success after signing 29 bills. the president faces the next 100 days with a long to-do list, which includes finding money for his border wall and passing a new republican-led health care plan. back here in the bay area, many protested the president while others celebrated his achievements at the california republicans convention in san jose. abc news reporter cornell bernard was there. >> reporter: republicans here say donald trump is doing just fine his first 100 days on the job. even reagan would be proud. >> he's really hitting a spectrum of ideas, whether it's with his new tax plan or foreign policy. i think for every type of republican, there is a way to agree with him in the last 100 days. >> i think trump is doing what he promised he would do. >> reporter: 300 college republicans holding their annual convention in san jose this

republican congress. his temporary travel ban on muslim majority countries blocked by the courts. mr. trump's biggest victory? >> i, neil gorsuch -- >> reporter: a new conservative justice on the supreme court. in san jose, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. across the country thousans of marches were held to protest president trump's environmental policy. in washington, d.c., they braved a record high temperature of 91 degrees. organizers claim 200,000 people showed up. star leonardo dicaprio was also in the crowd. paramedics got 50 medical calls, mostly heat related. 40 people went to the hospital. if you're flying you can expect more delays at san francisco international airport. here's a live look outside the airport this morning. one of the airport's four runways is closed through tonight for a paving project and that's reduced the number of flights that sfo can serve.

marine biologists seem to be amazed at the number of whales that come into the bay as well as the number of kills. the gray whales are migrating north and are tasty targets for the orcas. a pod of nine killer whales killed four gray whales over the span of a week. the humpbacks seem to want to protect the killer whales' prey. >> ground side guest closeout is complete. >> hold, hold, hold. new this morning, it's back to the drawing board for spacex. this morning's launch at cape canavaral was supposed to be the company's first with a government payload, but it was

happening today, 49ers dwight clark will be signing autograph at the palace. it will be his first public appearance since disclosing he has als. clark attended a 49ers event with joe montana and other stars of the past. he teamed up with montana to participate in the catch, which as many of you know was the touchdown in 1992 which put the

afternoon. temperatures above average again with low 60s in santa rosa right now as well as napa and novato. you were in the it's a cooler start. this afternoon we'll have that sea breeze kick up, maybe gusty at times but warmer days are ahead. we're talking an offshore flow where we could see some advisori advisories. those winds will gust in the east bay hills monday, tuesday and wednesday. temperatures are going to soar. the atmosphere is going to dry out. relative humidity could be in the single digits, yes, all in a week's time, because then we drop temperatures by the end of the week to more springlike conditions. and by the end of next weekend, one forecast model wants to bring in a strong low and some precip. we'll see what happens. upper 80s tomorrow as that offshore flow gets going, and this warmth is going to make it across the bay to the coast. so if you don't like the heat, we've got a couple uncomfortable days headed our way with some

90s inland, and then by wednesday, this will be the warmest day we could see numbers better than 75 in san francisco. so that sea breeze will be shut off and we'll be looking at temperatures 15, maybe 20 degrees above average. so it's just a short time event. we'll have to get through that, but as for today, numbers will be comfortable, a little bit of a sea breeze out there. m mid-60s half moon bay. ocean beach 69 and we'll look for mid to upper 70s further south down around santa cruz. but that beach temperature, or the water, 52 degrees. pretty nippy there. it will be a nice afternoon if you like the warmth. a late day sea breeze, upper 70s. you had some 80less yesterday from redwood city and mountain view today. a little cooler, 70 downtown. cooler in the north bay from santa rosa to petaluma and by the water it will be in the mid-70s. oakland, hayward, 78 for you.

a beautiful afternoon in san ramon getting toasty. for your day game, upper 60s to near 70 degrees today, so a beautiful day in san francisco. overnight lows tonight. it will get windy in the hills from the north bay hills to the east bay hills, and that's going to set the stage for that offshore flow that we don't like to hear about with the rapidly warming temperatures and with all the rain and the rapid growth of the grasses out there. we'll have to watch it even though it is may and we've had all that moisture. the accuweather 7-day forecast will warm it up and you'll see if they put any wind advisories there for us end of the week. >> i've had a hard time with allergies. >> unfortunately, it will be with us again, still. >> thanks for the sun, lisa. next, how you can give a fighting chance to every baby in
