valley. a report on that in less than 10. and speaking of your commute, some of you are about to get a faster one if you're willing to pay up. >> more express lanes are about to debut on 680. amy hollyfield live in the east bay this morning, hey, amy. >> reporter: hi, natasha. a section of interstate 680 will be getting faster this summe but not everyone likes the idea. the signs are up and being tested so in this idea will be a reality. these fast lanes are between walnut creek and san ramon. drivers can pay a toll if they want to hop in the lane and avoid traffic. some say even though they may use it, it doesn't sit right with them. >> i think it's a way for them to get more money, really. i don't really like it. >> reporter: the cost depends on how congest it had freeway is. since it's based on demand, they can't predict what it will cost

you. but express lanes already in place on interstate 580 are costing drivers around $1.60 for a 15-mile drive. the hope is to make these express lanes on interstate 680 available by august. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank. developing news from san jose state university where another student has been groped. it happened around 8:00 last night on the west side of the student services center. officials say a boy between the ages of 12 and 15 grabbed the woman while he rode past her on a bicycle. the woman was not physically hurt. the suspect still on the loose. at least five women were groped on campus last month. at least five others in november. we have new details in several indecent exposure cases in los al toes. police have after rested a suspect. 25-year-old christian atula, investigators believe he exposed himself to two children in two separate incidents on 23ri81. detectives say they've

identified seven victims ranging from 11 to 16. they're asking other victims to come we are hearing from the owner of a peninsula restaurant after one of his employees was caught spying on customers at jersey joe's in half moon bay. >> devastating is a word i've been using a lot. >> reporter: don is the owner of jersey joe's in half moon bay. pedro geronije jeronimogonzalezs busboy working for six months. >> we can't believe this could happen to our customers and that's the part that's -- that really hurts. >> reporter: san mateo county sheriff's deputies were called to jersey joe's 6:15 saturday night. a woman found a cell phone recording video in the lady's room. the sheriff's office determined it belonged to jeronimogonzalez

and it had been hidden there intentionally. two women and four children were recorded. they need to identify those victims. >> your privacy and your dignity is important to us but right now what we want to do is hold the suspect accountable for his actions. >> reporter: women who used the restroom saturday between 5:30 and 6:15 are asked to call the sheriff's office. customers fiona and tara davis were horrified to hear what happened. >> it's absolutely horrendous. the idea that your privacy is so invaded. >> the fact that they're children is just upsetting. >> reporter: but in this close-knit community where the owner himself lives, customers say they stand behind the owner. katie marzullo, nbc 7 news. here at the live desk, tracking an interesting story out of philadelphia. a store owner could be facing charges after shooting a 16-year-old teenager who was trashing his store. look at this new video.

the owner says the teen came into his store overnight with a friend trying to buy beer. the store owner refused to sell it to them, says the boys started vandalizing the store. the owner pulled out a gun and shot the teen. police say the boy was likely trying to defend himself and they say that because police say the bullet went through both of the kids' hands so maybe putting up his hands like that. the teen is in the hospital right now. the other one is still on the run this morning. natasha, back to you. >> jessica, thank you. this week congress is expected to vote on the trillion dollar budget. so what's included in that whopping figure? here are the details. first, the budget defies president trump. it does not fund the mexican border wall or eliminate money for sanctuary cities. it also doesn't cut funding to planned parenthood. in fact, it protects 99% of the epa's budget. also increases funding for the national institutes of health. the white house got a few wins. $15 billion extra for the military and $1.5 billion more for border protection.

the budget also includes funding for wildlife protection and flood relief in california. happening today, we'll be watching as united airlines ceo oscar munoz is scheduled to testify on capitol hill. this is coming nearly a month after that now infamous incident where a doctor got dragged off a flight. muniz will face questions about that incident and what can be done to improve the relationship between passengers and airlines. munoz says united is coming up with more changes to make traveling easier and provide better customer service. one of those is simplifying the way you file a claim for lost baggage. look at this mess in santa rosa. a car crashed into village pets and supply store on montgomery drive late last night. santa rosa fire department shared these photos. investigators didn't same what caused the crash but no animals or people were hurt. police have arrested two teenaged suspects in the mob robbery on a bart a couple weeks ago. one was arrested for a separate robbery friday afternoon and then police discovered he had a warrant out for the bart

intentionally rounded up the civilians, put them in one house, booby trapped it with explosives and lured the air strikes by firing at u.s. planes from the roof. survivors say it just isn't true. they say the air strikes targeted several buildings and that the casualties were spread out. in today's gma first look, there is an outpouring of support for jimmy kimmel. he got emotional in his monologue talking about his new baby's health. here's abc's diane macedo. >> reporter: an emotional jimmy kimmel recounting the terrifying moments after his son billy was born. >> they did an ecocardiogram, which is a sonogram of the heart and found that billy was born with -- a heart something called tetrology with pulmonary atresia. the valve is completely blocked

and he has a hole in the wall between the left and right sides of his heart. we put the baby in an ambulance to children's hospital los angeles and on monday morning the doctor opened his chest and fixed one of the two defects of his heart. he opened the valve and the operation was a success. coming up at 7:00 a.m., more on kimmel's son and the road ahead with your joogma first lo i'm diane macedo. new details about fallout from mayday and the protests that happened coast to coast. >> most marches were calm. not in portland, oregon. you can see what happened there. a very different story. police say anarchists destroyed a police car, smashed windows and started fire. officers ended up cancelling this event. they arrested 25 people, nine face felony charges, officers say they were hit in the head by objects, they were fortunately wearing helmets.

contrast that to the new video this morning in san francisco. this is the time lapse of the very peaceful march here. thousands of people taking to the streets. saabc 7 news was in san jos where mayday celebrators broke down four symbolic walls during the march for working families. union workers marched side by side with tech workers. sky 7 was over oakland where hundreds hit the streets in support of worker justice. organizers say the work has grown year after year. >> we have put together a photo gallery. you can see it on our web site, abc7news.com. a dallas paramedic is in critical condition after he was shot while responding to a shooting. police say the paramedics had just smarted medical treatment on the victim when a man came up and started shooting. police say one officer risked his life to save the paramedic who had been hit. the suspected shooter was tracked to a nearby home found dead along with another person. police say the suspect had a long criminal history and was

released from jail two months ago. three bay area leaders are among the highest paid in california, the alameda county sheriff topped all sheriffs in 2016 with more than $633,000 in pay and benefits. san jose's police chief and city manage each raked in nearly a half million dollars in salary and benefits last year, topping their counterparts. our media partner the mercury news obtained the new compensation data from the nonprofit transparent california. in oakland, its top employee was a civil engineer who earned nearly half a million dollars pay and benefits. kenny lau's pay is $108 million in benefits however he made $319,000 in overtime -- nearly double the pay your's salary. the city told the chronicle lau worked weekends and development fees covered his compensation. hosts for airbnb and its rival home away will have to register in san francisco. this is part of a settlement reached between the short term

b downtown 83 degrees. it may feel oppressive. a lot of people don't have air conditioning. when you hit 90 in castro valley, the house could feel hotter than that san jose 89. let's go to our inland neighborhoods where a lot of people have air conditioning low to mid-90s so nearing record highs today. on the peninsula, the coast is where you want to be. pacifica 74. look at the micro climates. 90 in redwood city. up in the north bay 92 in santa rosa. all possible record highs. you notice your yards in our hills all starting to turn brown already. temperatures in the mid-50s to mid-60s tonight. almost as hot tomorrow. the cooling hits the coast tomorrow into thursday. pushes through the rest of our neighborhoods friday and there you go. by saturday mainly 50s and 60s.

hey, alexis. >> a roller coaster for temperatures. on the roads, we're extremely quiet. one of the only incidents we've had was westbound 980 near 14th street. we've had a disabled tractor-trailer blocking the far right lane. we got the thumbs up there and we never saw backup form from that. san jose 101 and 880 starting to fill in. the headlights coming toward us, the inbound side. that looks good so far this morning. a quick check of mass transit looking great so far this morning as well. ace 1 on time today, no delays for bart, 44 trains in service right now and i know it was tough with a lot of reroutes with those marches and demonstrations yesterday with muni. today we should be back to normal service and no issues reported yet. >> thanks, alexis. new this morning, there is a go fund me campaign to raise reward money to find this missing german shepherd. his name is murphy. he was stolen sunday from the front yard of his owners' home in castro valley. murphy helped socialize hundreds of rescued german shepherds. the goal is to raise $10,000.

right now you can see they're almost to $8,000. if you want to donate, we set up a link on our web site, abc7news.com. explosions rocked a neighborhood in concord. you can see the aftermath in this home's backyard on concord boulevard. it destroyed a shed and in law unit. they're not sure what sparked the fire but there were propane tanks in the shed. >> muni will vote to extend its contract with next bus. the deal is worth nearly $4 million. this according to our partners at hoodline. you might remember in january rider frustration came to a boil over repeated incorrect next bus arrival times. muni blamed outdated technology. if today's extension goes through it will still have to get approval from the board of supervisors. marin county needs millions of dollars before new metering lights along 101 get the green light. according to our media partners at the "marin independent journal," the county needs $6 million to bring the lights online. the goal is to ease congestion there. the metropolitan gave money to

theaters may 12. in it, the late comic plays a cheeky dog who can talk. williams passed away at his tiburon home three weeks after wrapping the film. this is important. a strange recall notice for subaru owners. several models are being recalled because of an air bag issue and there is a shortage in supply so now subaru is telling you not to let anyone ride in your passenger seat for a year. that's a dire warning. new details on a rescue in texas we first showed you yesterday morning. here it is. the mother of this boy had an emotional meeting with one of the heroes who saved his life. >> that family was trying to find a storm shelter and their truck was washed off the road. it flipped over. two young children were inside. good samaritans risked their own safety and jumped in to help and one of those rescuers surprised the parents at the hospital. >> thank you so much for everything that you did, for helping someone you didn't know, for risking your lives to save ours.

that exit ramp. you're backed up to about the outlet mall so that will take you a while to get through. sounds like no injuries, sounds like everybody is out okay but they possibly have one of trucks that's leaking something. also in we have the bay bridge metering lights that happened at 5:26 this morning so that's filling in, too. we'll look at drive times at 5:40. happening in the south bay, closing arguments in the sierra lamar murder case five years after the morgan hill teenager disappeared. >> abc 7 news reporter matt keller live in san jose where the case soon goes to the matt? >> reporter: the defendant, antolin garcia torrez, will not take the stand in his own trial, that means today the defense and the prosecution will begin closing arguments. now, this trial has been going on since late january. it's lasted three months. it's been one extra witness after another discussing dna evidence and learning about the

digital trail sierra lamar left on her laptop before leaving home from school on march 16, 2012. she was never seen again. the defense says without a body, the case is circumstantial. >> what the prosecution is going to say is when you look at this mountain of evidence that there's no other rational explanation than mr. garcia torres kidnapped and killed sierra lamar. there's no other way we can look at this which makes sense based on all of the evidence >> reporter: sierra lamar was 15 and the focus of an extensive volunteer search effort. the fate of her accused killer, garcia-torres, will be in the hands of seven women and five men. the trial is scheduled to resume at 8:30. reporting live from san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. san francisco police are looking for the gunman who shot at a car and ended up killing a 15-year-old boy. this happened yesterday in the city's sunset district at sunset

boulevard and kirkham street yesterday. the boy and the passenger were in this car. the passenger was not hurt. investigators are looking for any possible suspects and surveillance video. people who live in the area told abc 7 the area where this happened is usually pretty quiet ebl except for the occasional car break in. investigators are trying to determine what caused this fire that burned through a homeless encampment in oakland. a viewer snapped photos of the damage. several tents and people's personal belongings were destroyed. no one was hurt. happening today, state assembly members are holding a hearing to discuss a recent audit at the university of california after the discovery of a very large secret fund. the state auditor found uc's president's office failed to disclose $175 million held in a special fund. lawmakers are callin for a reversal of a recent tuition hike now and more oversight over the system's finances. uber is planning to sue san francisco in a move it says will

protect its drivers. the "chronicle" reports uber filed initial court papers yesterday hoping to block a request to provide the names and addresses of all its drivers. uber says the city would post the driver's home addresses on a public web site. the city says it's trying to notify drivers that they are required to get business licenses. this morning, the white house is down playing a comment by president trump that he is open to meeting with north korea's kim jong-un. the president says he would be on or nod do it under the right circumstances. the comment marks the departure from the hardline stance the president has had against north korea in he cent weeks. the administration has raised the possibility of a preemptive strike if the north conduct another nuclear test. for the first time we're getting a look at cell phone video of the shooter behind the deadly birthday party attack in san diego. this video shows peter selis, the gunman, see him delight? he's on the lounge chair beneed

the umbrella at that pool party. it shows him reloading his gun and taking aim. police say he was distraught over a recent breakup and was on the phone with his ex so she could listen to the shootings. one woman who attended the party described what she saw. >> he did say "if you don't want to die, get out now." but he was still shooting people as they were running away and anyone who came back to help the wounded, he shot at them. >> how awful. a mother was killed, six others were injured before police shot and killed selis. the victims were black and latino, selis is white, police are saying they don't believe race played a factor. investigators are trying to understand why a university of texas student stabbed four other students. you see here 21-year-old kendrics white after he surrendered to police yesterday. police say white walked up to four students, attacked them with a hunting knife about a block from school. a 1-year-old freshman died.

three other victims are expected to recover. 5:35. an escaped inmate in the north bay is back in jail. deputies believe richard medina climbed over a fence yesterday. he was discovered missing but police tracked him to windsor, his hometown. medina is serving time for battery and assault and was scheduled to be released in september. happening today, a vote that could make it safer to ride bikes in one of san francisco's most crash-prone areas. this is part of the upper market street safety project. the sfmta will vote on improvements on market between octavia and castro. benicia will be voting on whether residents can keep mini pigs as pets. if the ordnance passes, the rules for owning a mini pig would be similar to owning a dog. they have to be leashed in public and owners have to pick up the waste. the pigs must be licensed and wear a dog tag and be neutered or spayed. the part of the ordnance that's causing a stink with local

it's 5:44. the president says he's open to raising the federal gasoline tax to pay for his ambitious infrastructure plan. right now it's at 18.4 cents a gallon for regular and 24 cents for diesel. that tax hasn't changed since 1993. it's cut into federal spending for highway construction and repair. no word on how much of an increase the president is willing to consider. remember our state gas tax is going up. >> as you make your plans on what to do with this gorgeous weather, here is your warning.

warm sunshine not only bringing out the hikers but the rattlesnakes in the east bay regional parks. one man was bit while hiking at mission peak in fremont yesterday afternoon and paramedics had to rush to get him medical attention while trying to find a hospital that stocks the rare anti-venom. not all of them have it. the chp says the hiker had a swollen hand and was in pretty severe pain. six sightings have been made in the last week, including yesterday's victim and a dog that got bitten. you will find tips on our web site on what to do, abc7news.com, if you get bitten by a rattlesnake. berkeley police are asking for your help to find a suspect in a stabbing that happened on john hinkel park. police say the victim was stabbed without being provoked. the suspect is described as an the suspect is described as an adult white male in his 30s.
