a dog left alone in a car in the north bay, dexter was rescued today in downtown san rafael. police say the temperature inside the vehicle he was in reached 156 degrees. poor dexter. the doors were unlocked so the police got him out easily. the owner received a citation. stay on top of the weather where you live with the abc7 accuweather app. download it free from the store. search for accuweather. >> more than 100 students have locked themselves inside kerr hall. they say they're not leaving either until the university meets their demand. >> abc7 news reporter is live on the campus. ka katey. >> reporter: there are 1 to 200 students inside the building. they've been inside there since early this afternoon. they told me they had no other choice.

the african black student alliance took over the administration building, locking the front door with chains and blocking others with furniture. organizers say the university wasn't listening. a spokesperson didn't want to give her name. >> we gave the chancellor a simple, very simple list of demands that will up lift and affirm the humanity of our black people. we will be here until our demands are met and we are not leaving until they are met. >> reporter: they want, among other things, guaranteed housing for african black caribbean students at the rosa parks african-american themed house, and they want the house painted red, green and black. a u.c. santa cruz chancellor says they have responded to the demands. >> with an explanation of what we're working on, what we're able to do, what we're not able to do. there's a variety of reasons for each situation. >> reporter: he says because it's a peaceful protest, the university will let it unfold. it started at noon with a march through campus. the reclamation of the space as the students are calling it happened around 1:30. at u.c. santa cruz, katey

marzullo, abc7 news. >> we heard from a 15-year-old boy shot to death in san francisco. he died yesterday. police say he was driving at sunset boulevard and kirk ham street when someone opened fire. they haven't determined if the gunman was targeting jackson or a 16-year-old passenger who was not hurt. his family says he hadn't been going to school and was having some issues, but they loved him through it all. >> we always hugged and kissed when we greet one another. and that's where he comes from. we're not perfect, but we love each other. and we're a strong family. >> family members say they forgive the suspect because they know that person's family is also hurting. >> a man who was in the standoff with police for 19 hours has been charged with murder. prosecutors say 38-year-old greg killed his wife in walnut creek on thursday. he was tracked to martinez where he refused to leave his car. police say he was armed with a
