that tend to happen. unfortunately, you are going to have to make other plans and check out golden gate from another vantage point. and we are looking great all the way around and we will take a look at light drive times coming up next. breaking news in the east bay, a rash of cars going up in flames right in the drive weiwa and two more this morning. >> and matt keller is live in walnut creek. matt. >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. frustrating and disappointing for another person to have to deal with a car fire here in the east bay. check out the mess and the damage left behind. these fires are being called arson and firefighters believe it's the same person or people that set the fires earlier this week. neighborhoods on juanita drive and walnut creek called firefighters at 2:06 a.m., and

the car was in the street and so the chance of it catching something else on fire was low, and then another fire two miles away also paurprked in the stre was called in, and a fire spokesperson said these are a link to other fires that go back to the beginning of the year and they are trying to figure out if it's one person or a group of people. if you have any information, you are asked to give them a call. matt keller, abc7 news. and there's a meeting to possibly replace contra costa's district attorney who is facing charges of corruption. and we caught up with peterson after a grand jury said he should be fired. >> any comment about the grand jury report? >> no comment. >> the da, pamark little to say after a grand jury

recommended he be removed from office. the grand jury says peterson secretly misaappropriated $66,000 in personal funds between 2011 and 2015. wagner from the da's union said an emergency meeting would be held for a possible no confidence vote and suggestions for a possible replacement. >> this is not about politics anymore and this is about the people. it's about finding a prosecutor within this office that can galvanize the employees, and who can bring integrity back to the office. >> and patrick announced he is running for the da. as for the grand jury -- >> it brings down the reputations of prosecutors throughout the state and it's conduct that is not becoming of our top prosecutor in contra costa county. >> it says you should be removed

from office. what do you think about that? >> i don't think that statute is applicable. >> the grand jury headache for peterson, and a judge could appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the grand jury's findings. in martinez, abc7 news. abc7 news was at the bay lands last night and a man hid in the bushes there naked and exposed himself to a woman who was hiking with her toddler. the suspect was unshaven and wearing glasses and blond hair and a man bun. the department of justice just announced a sweeping new policy that will determine which crimes a person gets charged with. attorney general jeff sessions sent out the new charging and sentencing policy to all u.s.

federal prosecutors last night. it tells prosecutors to pursue the most serious crime they can prove. it takes away some of their discretion they have now in choosing to charge somebody with a lesser offense. and prosecutors will be expected to follow federal guidelines in recommending sentences. donald trump admitted he was anything about the investigation when he made the decision to fire fbi director, james comey. the president told nbc news he fired comey because he was a showboat and grandstander before the recommendation came from the doj. comey was furious at the way the lack of respect the white house showed. only on abc7, janet napolitano is responding to

lawmakers. regents voted unanimously to hire an outside consultant to investigate the tampering allegations. napolitano maintains there was no inappropriate interference but told us she knows it looks bad. >> that's why i welcome the board taking their own independent look at what happened. >> an independent investigator will be selected in the coming weeks with a final report to follow in july. governor brown addressed that budget plan and that puts more funding into k-12 schools but $15 million to the california system is now on hold because of the audit controversy. and state republicans say the governor is taking an approach that is too antagonistic toward

b.a.r.t. getting hit with more complaints after an unprecedented drop in ridership, and the reason for both is homelessness. they are trying to fix this by finding shelters for the homeless. and this growing dissatisfaction comes at a time when for the first time b.a.r.t. ridership is dropping during weekend peak hours. a trailer was set on fire in petaluma on purpose. the sonoma county sheriff's office posted this photos after deputies arrested james heinz. he started the fire in the couch in a home he was rented on the

matt. >> reporter: good morning, jessica. so many people are frustrated by this. check out the damage of the vehicle here on juanita drive, and you can see just how bad it was. the flames were huge. so many fires this week, this is the seventh this week, and the flames were here on juanita drive just after 2:00 this morning and neighbors called on the fire and the car was in the street, and 11 minutes later another call about a car on fire about a mile away on crescenta court in lafayette. firefighters are asking for help. >> if you live in an area that had a fire recently, you can take a look at videos that you may have or just something that you recall and when you see that, if you think you have something to report, contact us and you can do that on the tip line as well. >> reporter: firefighters are trying to figure out if it's one

incident on the board and it's minor, 880 past winton avenue, second lane there from the right. i will keep an eye on that to see if it starts to form a backup. bay bridge toll plaza is starting to fill in and the metering lights were flipped on at 5:23 and this is one of the spots not looking so friday light. we will look at drive times coming up next. the chp is asking for help this morning for finding suspects on wine country. somebody opened fire on a honda accord around noon yesterday. and the wounded driver managed to pull on to the right side of the shoulder and the chp shut down southbound 101 for four hours. at this point investigators don't have a good description of the truck. if you live in the north

bay, don't be surprised if you see a smart train rolling by today. >> they will be riding on a full schedule but you waepon't be ab to catch a ride just yet. amy hollyfield is live in san rafael and will explain this. >> reporter: we are watching for signs of the smart train here off the tracks in san rafael this morning. don't try to hop onboard, it's only a test. they will be testing the smart trains for the next few weeks. you will see 30 of them on weekdays and ten on the weekends. this train will connect sonoma county to marin county and that ride is expected to take 67 minutes. you may not hear that train horn. the cities have implemented quiet zones at railroad crossings so officials say it's important to be aware near the tracks. this service is expected to start in late spring. reporting live in san rafael, amy hollyfield, abc7 news.

>> amy, thank you. new details that new details that francisco based uber problems. a judge denied uber's request to have the issue resolved privately in arbitration. a legal battle between ride cher uber and the city of san francisco is intensifying. dennis herrera has gone to court to force uber to turn over the names and addresses of the drivers. the city wants to collect a $91 fee for licenses. uber says it supports the licenses but not violating the privacy. uber has removed to request the personal information from the website. and b.a.r.t. is backing an

effort to team up with the city of brentwood and the transportation authority to see what it would take to build this. it could eventually become a station for an e-b.a.r.t. extension. a major milestone for b.a.r.t. in the east bay, and the entrance to the b.a.r.t. station will be unveiled this morning and will look like this, sleek, modern, and this is part of a 17-year effort to provide more access to the once-isolated station. this morning the white house is changing its story about president trump's firing of fbi director james comey. trump contradicted his staff from the vice president down telling nbc news the decision to fire the fbi director was his own and he admitted he was thinking of the russian investigation when he decided to fire comey.

and his staff repeatedly said he was following the recommendation. and sky 7 was near 14th and broadway last night as a handful of people held banners denouncing president trump. the raiders say a lease agreement needs to be reached soon to avoid having their move pushed back to 2021. it needs to be done before the nfl league owners meeting which happens soon. the board has added another meeting next thursday with the raiders in hopes of finalizing the plans. let's talk about a team that is staying in the bay area. the warriors. they will be back at practice preparing for sunday's game one at the western conference finals against the spurs. >> they had the day off

the forecast, about 60 to 69, and about the same tomorrow. we may get to 70 in a few areas. same thing on mother's day. it's going to be cooler than average. a chance of rain and a better chance and some 80s coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast. good news for our one issue that i told you about we had in hayward a few minutes ago. some type of hazard and never found out if it was a disabled vehicle or debris, but it's cleared from the board. 880 past winton avenue is cleared. we have a slight slowdown in the pittsburg area. i don't think we are blocking anything on the main line but a bit of a backup is starting to form on westbound highway 4, and we will have details coming up at 5:50. westbound 80, highway 4 to the maze, 18 minutes in the green. and just flipping into the yellow as the bay bridge commute

the university's wi-fi to up load graphic content of kids. he is fully cooperating with the investigation and is on leave. and a mechanical failure caused the fire on the back of the bus yesterday morning in the richmond district. it happened around 7:30 last night. the alternator split causing oil to drip into the engine sparking a fire. the flames were put out by the fire suppression system and nobody was hurt and the bus will be scrapped and replaced with one of the new buses coming online. and then a faulty wire disabled a pump and it cut off fresh water to the fish in the hatch rein orville yesterday. more th the salmon were evacuated from another hatchery when the

the winds there on live doppler 7. let's take a look at your temperatures in the microclimate. gilroy the only play near 70 today. millbr millbrae, 67. half moon bay, 58. that's the warm spot along the coast. 70 downtown in san francisco and sausalito. 65 to 68 through the north bay valleys. along the east bay shore, 63 in richmond and berkeley and oakland and 65 in union city, castro valley and fremont. our last stop, inland, 65 in danville to 69 in antioch. temperatures tonight, mid to upper 40s for most of us. we'll take a look at the accuweather 7-day forecast. more clouds on monday will keep the temperatures steady. a chance of showers looking healthier, maybe a quarter to half an inch. it's possible. it's a 1 on the storm impact scale. we have one new problem in

the south bay on the expressway right at the monroe street interchange. i believe it's fully contained to the north bay side and sounds both turn lanes are blocked and emergency crews are there and we are not seeing huge delays in the area, and of course that is not impacting state route 82 or 880 or any of the main interstates through the south bay. 680 looking good. check out the friday light commute through walnut creek. we will take it. we have been talking about the weekend b.a.r.t. track work and it was supposed to be saturday and sunday but now with the warriors home game on sunday it's just going to happen on saturday, so the tracks closed fruitvale to lake merritt station and the lake merritt station will be closed and a free bus bridge, and plan on a 20 to 40-minute delay, and sunday the tracks will be open and you can take b.a.r.t. to the warriors game. we will take a look at drive times coming up just before 6:00. happening today, a terminal shuffle begins at lax.
