it was 2:30 a.m. a mother and daughter were in this toyota yaris, making a left turn from fremont boulevard when a chevy malibu plowed right into them. maria marcelino was behind the wheel and survived the crash. her daughter shane did not. the two were just a minute away from home. shane had just spent the evening at the james logan high school prom. >> she was a kind hearted person. and she always loved everyone. >> reporter: tonight friends brought flowers to the crash site. shane was an honor student, played the flute for the school band, and was just weeks away from graduation. >> she was supposed to be graduating like next month. and then like not seeing that, it hurts my heart. i just want to see her graduate. >> reporter:. >> teachers will inform the students first thing in the morning. tragedy has hit james logan high school already this academic year. the logan community lost a student and a former student in

a car crash on 880 in september. john matos is the district's director of pupil services. >> it's going to be a struggle to kind of balance the typical kind of celebration that one might experience at the end of a school year and temper it with, you know, really a very tragic, tragic accident. >> as for shane's mom, she is being treated for major nonlife threatening injuries at the hospital. the people in the car that hit her suffered minor injuries. fremont police are looking into whether alcohol or speeding played a role in the collision. in fremont, lilian kim, abc 7 news. developing now in the east bay, the chp has shut down a freeway offranch in hayward where there was a report of a shooting at west winton avenue. you can see paramedics working on someone, but there is no official word yet on any injuries. officers are combing the area for clues right now. all lanes on the freeway at south are open. and of course we'll stay on top of this and bring you any updates that come into our newsroom.

emeryville residents who had no power for more than 36 hours after a massive saturday fire finally have it back tonight. that same building caught fire ten months ago. that fire was ruled suspicious. now the developer thinks this one is as well. abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow is live with our story tonight. melanie? >> eric, a pg&e spokesperson says the remaining customers, about 220 of them had their power restored just after 9:00 tonight. meantime, workers prevented another possible tragedy from occurring overnight. watch as this crane is brought down in a, quote, controlled fall. this after an early saturday morning blaze destroyed the holiday development project for the second time. >> i think common sense is that it's a pretty suspicious event, given that we had one ten months ago in the exact same nature. >> here is the fire last july. saturday, traveling embers caught the roof of another home on fire. the cause of saturday's fire

[ gunshots ] a quiet mother's day morning broken by the sound of gunfire in a quiet san francisco neighborhood. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard has more on how some neighbors in russian hill had to duck for cover. >> i dropped to the ground immediately. it was too cars chasing each other. >> reporter: lynn nguyen took cover with her dog loki when shots range out. >> i heard these pop pop pop pop pop. >> michael kelly's home security captured this, a gray sedan being fired on from a red bmw coupe. a high-speed chase from lombard to bay. a stray bullet shattered the windshield of this audi. they closed two blocks, counting shell casings scattered in the street.

wild video out of southern california here. it starts with an argument in the parking lot of a grocery store in beverly hills. a man gets into a yelling match with woman driving a car over littering. the woman then circles the parking lot a couple of times. the man appears to then roll a shopping cart into her car. that's when she drives the car right into the man, slamming him into the wall. police arrested the driver and her passenger. both are in jail for attempted murder. president trump is facing heat from both sides of the aisle tonight over his sudden dismissal of james comey.

abc's chief investigative correspondent brian ross has the story. >> law enforcement and intelligence agencies tracking the so-called wanna cry virus say the number of attacks tonight being reported continues to grow. >> the latest numbers are over 200,000 victims and 150 countries. which the head of the joint european law enforcement agency europol telling abc news, the worst may be yet to come with the ransom ware tomorrow morning. >> when the computers are switched on again monday morning, we might see the infection rates going back up. >> the attack spread at a speed never seen before, across six continents with an ominous message suddenly showing up on the targeted computers. it was only contained when this security computer programmer in indiana darian huss discover there might be a kill switch. >> it would not take for ransom and not attempt to spread itself.

colorado. they used ropes to rescue three rafters, but four people actually needed rescuing after their raft got stuck on a rock. firefighters pulled three of them to safety. the fourth dislodged the raft from the rock before returning to dry land. only one of those four wore a life vest. and rescuers say that everyone should have worn a life vest. kate loves this story. in san jose, five orphan coyote cubs are recovering after a dramatic rescue. a man who lives in the almaden neighborhood noticed the pups and called wildlife emergency service. this group posted this video of rescuers using a crowbar to remove a rock one was hiding under and lift it to safety. the wildlife center is treating them for dehiydration until they're well enough to be released. >> they're cute. >> until they grow up. still ahead on abc 7 news at 11:00, a reunion this mother's
