>> announcer: live where you live, this is abc7 news. >> developing news tonight, a fire at shoreline amphitheater leaves a kitchen worker with life-threatening injuries while thousands of tech workers were just a short distance away. good evening, i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm alma daetz. 7,000 people were at shoreline today for the google i.o. conference when that fire broke out. >> abc7 news reporter katie mur sewol owe is live in mountain view with the story. katie? >> reporter: dan and alma, there was a conference, part of the google conference let out a short time ago. no google employees were hurt in the fire. in fact, those i talked with didn't realize anything had happened, let alone something so serious. in this photo tweeted by henry mccracken, you can see bright orange flames through the middle of the stage right cafe. aaron goldberg was working security only a few feet away.

>> hear an explosion and people sta running out. >> reporter: it wasn't old for business but he said there were 20 people nearby. >> first thing i noticed was a guy stumbling out. one guy got badly injured. first thing was get him out and everyone away. >> reporter: the mountain view fire department got the call from mountain line at 4:00. >> they were aemting ttempting t a deep fat frier and there was a splash. >> reporter: the kitchen's fire suppression system put out the flames but the damage was already done. six people were hurt, three went to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries. >> any time you're dealing with fire it can happen. even relatively small fire. >> reporter: google tells abc7 news it has been in contact with the three people who suffered minor burns and says they are doing well. in mountain view, katie marzulo, abc7 news. >> we are following new developments tonight on the story we first brought you nearly two weeks ago.

flaring at the valero refinery, it has been intermittent since may 5th and tonight we are learning about some persisting problems still bothering neighbors. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard joins us live from benicia with the story. cornell? >> reporter: alma, it may be weeks before this refinery is back to normal operation after some flaring incidents this month. one last week apparently much worse than the city thought. check out the oily mess on these car windshields parked near the valero benicia refinery. the mystery residue started drifting from the refinery monday. valero reportedly offering free car wash vouchers to drivers affected. it all began may 5th when a power outage caused flaring. black smoke pouring from the refinery stacks. fernando shot this video. >> something was wrong because, you know, we never see the smoke like that. >> reporter: many homes and businesses told to shelter in place, but the following monday there was more flaring and people got sick. >> i had one employee throw up.

i had since 30 to the emergency room, and we didn't get any notice about anything going on beforehand. no one's talking about it now. and i'm a little upset about it. >> reporter: jasmine powell told benicia city council dozens at done lap manufacturing were overcome. >> the cloud of smoke hit us at about between:3 14:00. we had to send everybody home. >> reporter: the illness a surprise to the mayor. >> i did not know about this, jasmine. >> reporter: mayor elizabeth patterson telling abc7 news she's very disappointed about valero communication and lack of cooperation and collaboration with the city. the valero refinery is off line until next month. the oil prices information service tweeted, gas prices continue to climb today with reports the refinery restart has been pushed back to june. valero has not yet responded to

killer antolin garcia torres avoided eye contact. the penalty phase will determine if torres gets the death penalty or life without parole. the arguments will resume on monday. >> happening now at san francisco family is working around the clock searching and following up on leads, anything that might help them find their missing loved one. he disappeared sunday, mother's day. his family suspects foul play. abc7 news reporter lisa joins us live from pau trar owe hill. lisa. >> reporter: alma, the missing man's nephew searched this parking lot behind me hoping to find had i silver suv, but didn't have any luck. that's why they posted this flyer just in case someone remembers seeing him in the area. >> the gas station is going to be within this area, you guys. so, why don't you do the gas station and then you do the garages. >> reporter: his house is now the family's war room. >> you're going to be driving by just to see any suspicious activities or any signs of his car.

>> reporter: because he isn't on their sight. father of two and former uber driver disappeared sunday afternoon. his family is sure something is very wrong. >> love his family way too much to leave without telling us where he's going. or not even a phone call. >> reporter: the case is now with s.f.p.d.'s special victim's unit. there are very few leads. the family worries an uber passenger who left his phone in the car saturday may be tied to his disappearance. that passenger somehow tracked him down at his home. >> i don't know if, you know, he was set up in any way. i mean, he drives a mercedes. >> reporter: he tried to disappear while driving to a friend's house. he never arrived and his phone has been off ever since. >> maybe you can start searching. >> reporter: so the round the clock search continues throughout the city and the peninsula. >> anybody could, you know, drop off a stolen vehicle basically. >> reporter: the hope is if they find his car, they'll find him.

in san francisco, lisa, abc7 news. >> new tonight, three people fell off a ferris wheel in washington state in port townsend north of seattle. they tumbled at least 15 feet onto the metal base at the bottom of the ride after one of the baskets flipped upside down. a 59-year-old woman was flown to a trauma center. one of the other victims is a 6-year-old boy. doctors say all the victims will survive. the ride is shut down, of course, as investigators try to figure out exactly what went wrong. and dramatic video tonight shows the moment a speeding car went airborne. watch this now. slamming into a crowd of tourists in new york's times square. one tourist was killed. 22 other people were injured. police say the driver was high on synthetic marijuana and told police he thought the end of the world was coming. bystanders held him down until police could arrest him. the woman killed has been identified as 18-year-old elise

going up on the golden gate bridge in 2021. >> we don't normally cover suicide or suicide attempts, we want to bring you a meeting of two men. both jumped off the bridge and su you are viechld. >> abc7 news anchor natasha spoke with them about their fall and most importantly about their rise. >> what's going on, man? >> reporter: on baker beach it appears a pair of tourists are snapping photos and talking like old friends. in truth, these men are little more than strangers who happen to share this. >> i jumped off the golden gate bridge on september 25th of the year 2000. it was a monday. >> on august 20th, 1985, i jumped off the golden gate bridge and i survived. >> reporter: more than 1600 people have taken their lives this way. less than 2% survive. kevin heinz and ken baldwin want you to know the feeling they both had the moment they jumped. >> the mill i second of true free fall, instant regret for my action. >> at that moment i realized this is the stupid est thing i've ever done.

your eyes, it was my current life, everybody it was going to hurt. >> reporter: they fell 2300 feet and hit the water 75 miles per hour. both hit feet first. kevin in a seated position, the other in a cannonball. he came to in the water. >> the irony of living in the water and i thought i was going to drown. >> when i wanted to live the most, i thought i was going to die. >> reporter: he was bruised and had a collapsed lung. meanwhile kevin was in agony, his back was broken. >> kevin, you can't die here. if you die here, no one will ever know you didn't want to. no one will ever know that you knew you made a mistake. and i broke the surface. >> reporter: marcus butler was one of the men who pulled kevin from the water. we tracked him down in the houston area. thank you so much for talking with us. all these years later he still has nightmares. >> they don't hit the water and go peacefully into the night. sometimes the bodies are things you see in a horror show. >> reporter: in the four years he served here he pulled 57

changes. take a look at the satellite and radar. live doppler 7 right now, want to turn your attention to the fact that all of the cloud cover is heading well to the north of us. that's where the storm track is. and that basically means we are going to be under the influence of sinking air, warmed up today. we're going to see those temperatures continuing to rise and rapidly. look at the hour by hour forecast as we start off your morning. concord tomorrow morning will start out at upper 50s. you will notice that the temperatures will come up and they will quickly rise to the low 90s tomorrow afternoon before we see those temperatures dropping again. so, definitely going to warm up fast especially in our inland communities. a live look right now from our emeryville camera. we don't have any fog here from this perspective but there is a little tiny patch at half moon bay. i suspect it will go away pretty quickly. live doppler 7 is showing you the closer view right now. and we are in the clear across most of the bay area. don't have any rain to speak of any time soon.

temperatures right now ranging from the 40s along the coast all the way to the 60s inland. it's almost 70 degrees in concord and brentwood you know it's starting to feel like summer. and you're going to see a sign of it. concord tomorrow afternoon 90 degrees, pretty warm. low 90s antioch, fairfield, 89 in livermore. sutro tower camera looking at san francisco there, you see city hall, market street. temperatures will continue to rise tomorrow. summer like heat this weekend and cooling begins early next week. speaking of cool it will start out that way tomorrow morning. under clear skies, temperatures in the upper 40s to the mid 50s. when you get going you will want to grab just a thin extra layer for the afternoon, you can pretty much get rid of it because it is going to be a nice day. 60s, 70s coast side. today we had 80s in our warm est spot tomorrow it will turn to 90s to end your work wikipedia. it is also going to be warming up in tahoe. if you are other heading to the high country i do want to warn you even though it is going to be nice and sunny friday through sunday, if you're doing some cam

camping or hiking, the warm temperatures in the low 70s is going to mean potential for some big-time flooding. a flood watch has been issued sunday morning through tuesday afternoon, excessive snow melt expected. the runoff, creeks and streams will be rising and there is the potential for rock and mudslides so just be care. . on a lighter note beta breakers mid 50s, perfect racing weather. sunshine, temperatures really in the upper 50s to mid 60s so not too hot for all you runners out there. look at the accuweather seven-day forecast or spectators. mid 60s to low 90s, feeling like summer, bump up temperatures as we head to the weekend. low to mid 90s. the coast will stay comfortable because of the fog, because the breeze over the weekend. everyone will cool off between tuesday and thursday at least coming down closer to average even though we're still going to be above normal inland. download the accuweather app and
