smoke pouring into the sky. in the aftermath, a homeowner grateful to be alive. >> i heard some popping outside the house. so, when i checked, i saw smoke and that's why i started calling everybody that there's fire. >> reporter: fire crews respond ed just after 11:00 this morning to a one alarm fire on summer street just east of interstate 680. two familieho w this home were able to escape without injury. neighbors applauding the san jose fire department in their quick response from preventing the fire from spreading. >> i got out. all i heard was fire. my aunt and my cousin woke up and they just told us to evacuate. >> reporter: on the other end of the street, a growing frustration, residents having to deal with a broken water main. some stuck with nowhere to go. >> two hours later wtha am i supposed to do? i can't walk to my defendant napgs. i have to wait until they clear it up so i can get on the road. >> reporter: the san jose water company tells us the break likely happened as fire crews

caused a -- abc7 news was there as the water company began repair. the water has been shut off for now. officials hope to have the mains fixed within the hour. a chaotic day for residents who got a little more heat than they wanted. >> a lot of people need to go to work or family visiting where somebody was sick or technically just other reasons that cannot get out, that's the main thing we were concerned. >> reporter: theseau c remains investigation. in san jose, chris nguyen, abc7 news. >> a scare today at a south san jose charter school was likely a hoax. police evacuated bridges academy on mclauchlin avenue at 8:30 this morning after a custodian found a back pack at the center of the school with a bottle inside labeled l nitroglycerin. they called the bomb squad which removed the bottle that contained a suspicious liquid. >> the device or bottle has been collected by the bomb squad. we have that in our custody.

a terrible story out of concord. two puppies were found dead, eight others were rescued after a man left them unattended in a car. lo gfrfirst heard about this b klay court. eric thomas is live with the details. eric? >> reporter: and the puppies, they're just days old.

they're very tiny and we had a chance to visit with them and their mom at their kennel here in the contra costa animal services office in martinez. shelter officials say the dogs were discovered closed up in the car wednesday in the 4700 block of clayton road. you can look at them right therein side the animal shelter. police were called and rescued all nine and rushed them to a vet's office. two of the puppies didn't make it. a 55-year-old concord man was taken into custody and booked on animal neglect charges. the surviving dogs are healthy and active and as you see here, one of them especially in the back is very active. they are currently under the care of county veterinarians who will also try to figure out exactly what the cause of death was. >> we think that, you know, our exhaustion. however, our veterinarians are going to be performing a necropsy on them to see if it was heat exhaustion or something else. >> reporter: now, it is another warm day here in the east bay and that means another reminder

foggy conditions at the bay overnight. hot inland the next three days. cooling area wide begins next tuesday and continues later in the week. here is our forecast animation tonight. 9:00, 10:00 we'll see areas of fog returning to the coast line. overnight pushing locally across the bay. by 3:00 tomorrow afternoon the fog will have pulled back from the coast line and away from the coast in many locations. it is still going to be a fairly warm day even at the coast tomorrow. overnight lows will generally be in the low to mid 50s. some locations up in the north bay valleys may drop into the upper 40s, but generally it will be mild overnight and t it o wa again tomorrow. look for highs in the 70s on the coast, mid to upper 80s around the bay. mid 90s in the warm est inland locations. and as we look at the high temperature trend moving ahead to beta breakers on sunday, it's going to be a nice warm day. early in the morning here in san francisco where the race takes plce, we'll have mainly sunny skies. temperatures in the 50s which is good for runners, but it is

sun screen. >> i am so jealous, just so jealous. spencer christian, what are you doing this weekend, you going to the beach? >> i'm going to apply some sun screen and hang out somewhere. here's a look at live doppler 7. i don't know if it's going to be the beach or inland. probably the beach because inland is going to be hot. we'll see low clouds and fog at the beach pushing -- at the coast pushing locally out over the bay. low temperatures will be mainly in the low to mid 50s. then tomorrow sunny and hot inland once again with highs in the low to mid 90s inland. we'll see mid to upper 80s on the bay. on the coast 70s tomorrow the beach will be a nice play to go tomorrow. a high temperature trend for the 7 days ahead. livermore how much higher than average temperatures will be. average is 76 degrees. the next three days it will be in the mid 90s in livermore. dropping off to mid-'80s well above average. not dropping back down to average until thursday of next week. that is pretty much what we can all expect in the bay area over

some san francisco high school students received a hands-on lesson today in disaster medical skills and first aid. members of the san francisco fire department and american medical response spent the day with students at john owe connell high school. the kids learned all about a career as a first responder and then took part in a mock medical emergency. it didn't take much to convince senior ramirez. she's been accepted into the emt program at sclecity college. >> i always liked helping people. i believed being a paramedic or emt would allow me to help

father. >> jonathan bloom is live in san francisco with the very latest. jonathan? >> reporter: well, just minutes ago the san francisco district attorney's office wrapped up a press conference about that amber alert that was issued in the search for a one-year-old boy they believe was abdulcted y his own father. it was displayed on signs all over the bay area because the father and son at this point could be anywhere. the process started just after 5:30 last night when the child's mother came to the tara bell police station to report that the father 30-year-old jason lamb had not shown up to drop off their baby son makai at the time he was supposed to. they captured an image of a father and son at a business in menlo park. they didn't specify how long that image was taken. the two have joint custody. after learning new information, the d.a.'s office got involved. reports from the california highway patrol indicated lamb might have been contemplating suicide. >> sometime today we found out disturbing information regarding the father that really
