where a building collapsed this morning. thanks for joining us. >> we have just confirmed 13 people got hurt, apparently treated for minor injuries. abc 7 reporter is on the scene joining us on the phone. melanie, what do we know? >> reporter: well, the good news is, all of this, if there's any good news, that the oakland fire battalion chief says injuries are minor. talking about minor cuts and bruises according to him, this after the 13 construction workers fell from an upper floor that they were working on as they were pouring concrete. they were pouring concrete from

the building you're likely looking at video of from sky7 right now when somehow the flooring underneath them gave way. we're told that nobody underneath them was significantly hurt, but they did fall. my colleague who arrived here on scene first when all of this got going shortly after 9:30 this morning has been talking to some of the construction workers that are out here, and just showed me some video they shared with him that shows them dangling from some railing they were working on. sort of hanging there. you can see some of the workers below them, some that have that concrete that was being poured up to their knees, but, again, ones that fell had minor injuries according to the battalion chief. injuries, cuts, bruises, 13 men, uncertain at this point of the age range, but they've all been taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. still a somewhat acid scene out

there. there's construction workers, oakland firefighters, and now they'll begin to investigate, of course, what happened, they said that osha is here on scene looking into what happened, what caused this collapse, but, again, the good news in all of this is injuries are minor. >> all right. melanie, as we look at this, it certainly looks like it's just a portion of that building, and we understand it could be a garage area of the structure. looking at the tangled mess of the rebar that's mangled now as they, of course, the rebar supporting the concrete that was supposed to be poured. can you talk about whether this is a garage part or what you know about the portion collapsed? >> caller: they have not shared about what the building is or what portion collapsed, but you mentioned rebar, and you can see that from sky7. that rebar you're looking at is where some of the construction workers were dangling in this

cell phone video i've seen. you can see their legs dangling from the rebar, and underneath in the video i've seen in reports, we'll get online and later in the news kags, also shows some construction workers where that concrete was poured in. they are knee deep in that concre concrete, but it's not at this point clear what part of this construction project moight hav collapsed. that's not been said yet. the investigation has just begun. >> live in oakland, melanie, appreciate the update. that is better news than we had feared that these people only suffered minor injuries. of course, melanie will stay on the story and follow her on t t twitter throughout the day for more information. >> look at this video that was posted from abc 7, and it's giving you a much closer look at what was happening there while the site was under construction here at the bay chevy chevrolet, and workers helping people

injured during this collapse. >> yeah. you saw the dangling legs of the construction workers right there that melanie was just describing. it is difficult to imagine the scenario that 13 had minor injuries in this case, so that is the good news. meantime, there's a little history about this building here. the collapse is on the site of the old bay city chevrolet. many bay area folks are familiar with that. this has been under construction since last year by developer city view to become a seven-story mixed use building with 423 apartment units and retail space underneath. we did the research, pulled up the rendering how it looks when completed, and we tweeted that picture. according to the san francisco business times, this project was expected to open next year. no word how today's incident delays that and by how much. >> we're going to stay on top of the breaking news on our abc 7 news app. our web team pushed out another alert to let you know about the

injuries at this building. if you download this happen and enable push alerts, you get them on the mobile device, free to do download. you can do it right now. >> now on to other news. gilroy after a shooting this miranda warning. >> all while trying to stop a car burglary. we are live with more. >> reporter: kristin, that's right. right now, police are interviewing the suspects they do have in custody, and they are sifting through the evidence they collected. >> come out of the house with your hands up. >> reporter: the gilroy swat team spent the morning in front of this home off of monterey road. this is cell phone video. they were giving commands to the people inside. police believe they involved in a shooting near victoria and hyde park drive. >> i heard two gunshots, and

then i heard someone screaming and yelling bloody murder. >> reporter: police say that shooting happened just before 3:00 this morning. a man who lived in the neighborhood saw two suspects trying to break into his neighbor's car. police say when he confronted them, a third suspect fired at him multiple times and hit in the leg. suspects ran, but police caught one at the scene and tracked the others to this home. now, when the swat team moved in, they were able to talk those people out, a total of four people in custody, at least one of them is a juvenile. the victim who was shot, he was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be okay. >> the person that did this, it was well-intended. he saw someone breaking into -- some people breaking into a car, and he went out there them. we suggest you be a good witness, call the police, and we'll handle the dircangerous

montana republican cited for assaulting a reporter won a special congressional election. he ran for the seat left veiaca by the new interior secretary. he got 51% of the vote, despite being accused of body slamming reporter ben jacobs of the guardian the day before. he apologized at the victory party. >> i took an action i can't take back, and i'm not proud of what happened. i should not have responded in the way that i did. for that, i'm sorry. >> and you should know, nearly 70% of the votes in the race were cast early before the alleged assault. talking about many people getting ready to do something fun for the three-day weekend. of course, others are prepared
