citations. the nature of the complaint is confidential. meantime, first responders are contracting construction workers with helping rescue their colleagues who were trapped today. you can hear and see the chaos in this cell phone video taken moments after the partial collapse during the cement pour from the second floor. >> i was on the third floor. i was walking that way. >> reporter: construction workers knee deep in cement, others dangling from the rebar. >> everybody was worried about the coworkers. >> reporter: as oakland fire fighters arrived, those coworkers also sprung into action, putting up a ladder and putting down pieces of plywood on the now still wet cement which was nearly impossible to move through. >> it's kind of like quick sand. >> reporter: oakland fire says 15 to 20 construction workers initially were trapped. everyone got out. >> it was a very great rescue between us and them. >> reporter: first responders

transported 12 construction workers to area hospitals for minor injuries. the general contractor on the project is johnston moyer construction. the subcontractor is largo concrete, incorporated. cal osha is now investigating, talking to workers and reviewing safety procedures. >> was this a situation in which this could have been prevented? >> reporter: cal osha says it has inspected both johnston moyer and largo 11 times over the last five years. it issued johnston lawyers with low penalties over four of those inspections. whereas four of largo's inspections were accident related. three resulted in violations for workplace safety hazards, including one serious violation for failing to guard reinforced steel which could have resulted in a worker being impaled. in oakland, melanie woodrow, abc7 news. >> we sent an alert through the

abc7 news app about the exclusive video of construction workers dangling from that collapsed building. let's take a closer look at that video. you can see a worker on the right-hand side of your screen lying down on the cement. one of the man's coworkers carlos bell tran, took these shots moments after the accident. you can also see workers hanging from the scaffolding. now, we have frozen the video here so you can get a better look since the video is a little shaky. here's one more for you, one more freeze frame. you can see a worker covered in cement being escorted away. >> the site of that collapse may be familiar to bay area car buyers. and the current project developer has ties to former president bill clinton. >> abc7 news anchor kristen sze is here with more on the site's history, current project and the big name politico involved. >> alma and larry let's start with the site. from 2011 to 2014, this corner at broadway and hawthorne was home to bay city chevrolet. now i'm going to bring you closer so you can take a good look at it. right there, look. even today on google maps, you can see the dealership and all

the cars on the lot, even though the cars are well gone and the dealership has been demolished. now let's talk about the project. the city approved it in late 2014, a $150 million mixed use building. seven stories, 423 apartment units, and 21,000 square feet of commercial space. now, these are developer renderings of how it will look. now, i'm going to show you the developer is city view, based in los angeles. it has buildings you can see in san francisco and, of course, this one in oakland. that's the project underway. but look, we did some digging and found who the co-founder and current chairman. henry cisneros, hud secretary to president bill clinton. i also want to show you some more pictures. these are sketches of the project posted on the architect studio website. the building was supposed to open sometime next year. no word on whether today's accident there may set it back. larry and alma? >> all right, thank you,

kristen. pg&e crews are working to cap a gas leak in cupertino in apple's new campus that is now under construction. authorities reported the leak just after 2:00 this afternoon on north tanto avenue, not far from north wolf road. fire fighters evacuated crews working at the apple construction site. there is no word of any injuries. >> a 73-year-old man is in critical condition today after a suspected drunk driver hit him in livermore this morning. this happened on iz a bell avenue south of 580 just after 10:00 a.m. police say the man was parked and standing outside his car when the woman's suv hit him. he was wadly injured, taken to the eden medical center. the driver of the suv is 42-year-old jennifer of pleasanton and she underwent a field sobriety test and has been arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. >> four people including a teenager are in custody following the overnight shooting of a good samaritan in gilroy. a witness took the cell phone video of a s.w.a.t. team in action outside a home off

monterey road. police say a neighbor was breaking into cars around 3:00 a.m. >> i heard two gunshots and then i heard someone screaming and yelling, bloody murder. >> the man who stepped in to stop the break in was shot in the leg, but is expected to be okay. >> new developments in the case of a san jose state football player seriously injured in a stabbing, we now have surveillance video to show you of the suspects police are trying to find. this security footage was taken in downtown san jose around 1:00 a.m. on sunday morning. police are trying to identify the man in the white t-shirt who is wearing a hat. the second suspect is also wearing a white t-shirt, a black beanie and has a long ponytail. the men are accused of stabbing san jose state student chad miller during a fight. miller is still recovering at the hospital. >> turning now to the weather, we are kicking off the holiday weekend with, as larry mentioned, gray skies, a little cool out. this is a live look from our mount tam camera. >> is that the way i said it, gray skies?

storms have caused many people living near big sur wondering when they'll catch a break. shop owners want them to know they are open for business. >> reporter: businesses in big sur, a quiet holiday stretch like no other. >> one of the most trying years that we've had in 17 years of business. between the fire and the road closing. >> reporter: and for francesca, co-owner of the local color gallery, it wasn't supposed to be this way. >> we open our doors every day. we just don't know if anybody is going to walk in. >> reporter: last saturday a massive land slide hit highway 1 at mud creek between gorda and san simeon. cutting portions of big sur from the south. combined with damage from previous storms, cal trans says it can now take up to a year for repairs to be made. contrary to popular belief, this village is still open and easily accessible to those who are driving from the bay area. at the big sur river inn,

we are following breaking news out of napa. in just the last 15 minutes, the district attorney's office announce the criminal charges will be filed against six students involved in the football hazing scandal in napa high. >> abc7 news reporter wayne freedman is at napa high school with reaction on the big decision.

wayne. >> reporter: as you said, the news came in just before 4:00. they filed petitions on six juveniles in juvenile court for juvenile actions for criminal actions, 11 other kids remain under investigation. there was not enough evidence to charge any coaches, according to this press release, nor are there details of charges against any of the kids. for all we know, these could be misdemeanors, or they could be felonies. earlier today we spoke exclusively with county superintendent of schools barbara nemko. what would be best for the district? >> if no charges were brought. >> reporter: what has happened already has been painful enough for the napa skechool board, fo district parents and students. >> the program has been pulled apart. players against players, families against families, coaches against coaches. >> reporter: they expelled nine

students for hazing. four remain out. the county office of education takes appeals and overturns napa suspension of quarterback johnny torres based on technicalities according to dr. nemko. she could not be specific about his role in hazing. >> if there is anything in due process that was not done or that the boards felt was not done, we have to overturn it. >> reporter: isn't that pretty serious when a district misses out on due process on something as big as expulsion? >> have you ever read the ed code? i piled it up once. it's taller than i am. there are so many ways that you can make a mistake. >> reporter: so, napa's hazing scandal is not over. it would not have been over anyway. a group of parents has already asked for a recall of the napa school board and now abc7 news has learned that before the d.a.'s announcement, parents had hired an attorney and will file a complaint against the board with a citizens grand jury. the county school board, the

county school board will review two more expulsions next week. live in napa county, wayne freedman, abc7 news. >> all right, wayne, thank you. spirit airlines is expanding its operations out of oakland international airport. the discount carrier is adding two new destinations. a nonstop flight from oakland to baltimore/washington international airport. spirit offers seven nonstop destinations from oakland with 11 daily flights including chicago, dallas fort worth, houston and los angeles. >> keep your mind if sight-seeing, two parking lots at either end of the golden gate bridge closed for most of this long holiday weekend. the lots will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through memorial day to prevent traffic from backing up onto the bridge. you can still reach the parking lots and viewpoints by bus, taxi, ride sharing service, biking or walking. and there will be closures on bart this weekend as well. oakland's lake merritt station will be shut down through the holiday weekend as part of ongoing maintenance work. this is video from bart of the

project. buses will run instead of trains from fruitvale to west oakland and from fruitvale to 19th street. the shut down starts after service ends tonight and service will resume as normal tuesday morning. >> visitors flooded into napa today for the first day of bottle rock and people turned out early this morning to catch just a few of the 85 acts who will be hitting the stage this weekend. >> some big names, too. abc7 news reporter jonathan bloom at the napa county fairgrounds. jonathan, how is it going out there? >> reporter: last year it was really hot. today the weather is just about perfect. names like maroon five, tom petty and the lineup, the festival is sold out and teaming with people. to get in, you have to go through this security line. while it may seem like an inconvenience a week ago, today some folks tell us they're awfully grateful for it. there are countless reasons to come to bottle rock. >> great music, great wine, great beer. >> reporter: which may be why countless people flooded the

the breeze. these are forecast features. cloudy overnight, sunnier tomorrow. a warmer pattern for the holiday weekend, memorial day weekend that is. mild to warm days into the middle of next week. right now though we're looking at increasing clouds as we move into the late night and overnight hours and overnight lows will be in the low to mid 50s. breezy conditions near the coast line and tomorrow by afternoon we'll see sunnier skies than we've had today for sure. although some clouds will linger at the coast, it will be breezy again tomorrow with highs ranging from almost 60 degrees at the coast to mid and upper 60s around the bay. low to mid 70s inland. temperatures are gradually rising. now let me take you to napa where we have two days left of the bottle rock music festival. saturday and sunday will be sunnier and milder than today with high temperatures both days over the weekend in the 70s in fact, upper 70s by sunday. so, plez ants weather for getting up there for a little music and wine. and if you plan to stay here in the city or venture into the city, there is carnival in the

mission district and both days this weekend here in san francisco skies will be partly cloudy to mostly sunny. it will be a little bit on the cool side breezy, high temperatures in the low to mid 60s. on we go to the accuweather seven-day forecast. and things are warming up nicely or will be as we head into the three-day holiday weekend. a little warmer on sunday than tomorrow. warmer still on monday memorial day with highs around mid 70s in the bay, 80s inland, 60 on the coast. temperatures may drop a few degrees mid week on wednesday but bounce back into the low 80s inland on thursday and friday. through that seven-day period we can expect mostly sunny skies even when the temperatures drop, it will be bright and not so dreary. >> can i say something right here? you guys are doing this impersonation of me like i'm iore. i don't say -- i bet it's cold. i didn't say anything about gray. >> more of a yeller. anger. >> it will be cold this weekend. i promise. >> thank you. >> promise you.

the warriors are heavily favored to win the nba championship. finals begin next week exclusively here on abc7. the dubs will face the cavaliers in the finals. warriors won it three years ago, last year cleveland. we'll see who will win this time around. cleveland advanced to the finals last night defeating the celtics, crushed them four games to one. warriors say they are excited about this opportunity, but the long layoff until game one next

he's not a target in the fbi's investigation into russia's interference in last year's presidential election, but agents do want to ask him a few questions about his interactions with russian officials during the campaign and transition. there is something else the fbi is looking into, an attempted overseas cyberattack against the trump organization. abc news has learned about representatives of the cia. that meeting held the day before trump fired fbi director james comey. >> reporter: eric trump would not confirm or deny that he and his brother met with the fbi in new york, but he does tell abc news that the company has not been hacked. alma? >> and, stephanie, what is on the president's agenda for tonight and when does he head back to washington? >> reporter: so, as far as the president's trip, it is coming to an end. he and first lady melania went

waver for passengers using several british airports. the airline says its passengers will be able to change their flights without paying a fee. the waiver covers flights to or from manchester. in london, heathrow airport, birmingham, ed inberg, and glasgow between may 24th and june 30th. >> there is still no claim of responsibility for today's deadly attack on a bus carrying christians in egypt. gun men opened fire on coptic christians traveling to a monastery killing 28 people and wounding four. officials say children are among the victim. it happened in the central egyptian town. the attacks followed a series of church bombings claimed by isis. >> the montana republican charged for assaulting a reporter is now a congressman. greg gianforte easily beat his democratic challenger by the seat left vacant by the new interior secretary. the software executive is accused of misdemeanor assault for allegedly body slamming a reporter on wednesday. gianforte addressed the issue

more than a dozen nonprofits are getting a boost from the city to help stay afloat in this difficult housing market. >> the cost of doing business has gone up and it's challenged all of our nonprofits so that sometimes they couldn't even afford the kind of challenges they have. >> abc7 news was at the 6th avenue community youth center today where city leaders announced a $2.7 million grant, 13 nonprofits that offer services to seniors, under

hospitals. the pristine home sits in the parking lot of the kaiser permanente tee santa clara medical center. it is adorned with gorgeous roses on the outside and welcoming furniture on the inside. but this story is not about the building, it's about this volunteer and the unexpected friendship that started it all. >> first of all, this is my baby. this is j.w.'s baby, my baby, napa's baby. when you have your baby, you are not going to let go. >> he's an authentic human being who loves j.w., loves j.w. house. >> reporter: moyer than a decade ago, dr. alan wong, a pediatric oncologist had a special patient named j.w. k napp in. they forged a unique bond. >> i would say i love him. we are good friends. before he died, we were so tight. >> reporter: j.w. died of leukemia just before his 17th birthday. in his short life, j.w. wanted

to build a home for families in situations similar to his. the teenager fund raised the initial $10,000 and gave the money to dr. wong, asking the doctor for help to make this home a reality. >> suddenly i became a fund-raiser, too. and then i became a businessman, too. >> reporter: when j.w. died in 2005, dr. wong and others continued to fund raise and eventually went through with plans, opening the doors in 2008. >> they loved each other very dearly. this love that they shared through this dream that gave j.w. hope, gave his family hope, and now certainly has given thousands of people hope. >> reporter: dr. wong is here every saturday. >> i learned how to do laundry in j.w. house. >> he's so humble in the way that he gives back. he doesn't have to volunteer. it's just a wonderful example of volunteerism and compassion and empathy. >> j.w. changed me.

do not need to accept them. now, when looking for a new place to live, ask if they accept section 8 vouchers. another good starting point is the u.s. department of housing and urban development. i'll post a lincoln our website. it is not a kind of thing where you show up and they have to take it like it's cash. >> okay. danielle from moraga asks where should i look if i want to start investing money? >> first sign up for your 401k at work. many companies manage your money and it grows tax free. a deal way too good to pass up. start reading a bit about investing online as well. kiplinger.com is a great starting point. very well written. also check out charles schwab and other low cost brokers offer online advice. once you know just a little bit, enough to be dangerous to yourself, you can invest in mutual funds that track a large part of the market. don't buy individual stocks like the s&p 500, that type of thing. it's not rocket science, but seems hard today. it will actually be a breeze in three or four months if you start educating yourself now.

rescued goats, all of them babies. their injuries include first, second and third degree burns. perhaps the best indication of what they've suffered is how quiet they are. >> they do have emotions so i'm sure they are traumatized. like i say, normally you would hear baa or something, but they're very, very quiet. i mean they've lost their home, they had to run for their lives yesterday. and, you know, many are in pain. >> reporter: being herd animals, you can see they are sticking closely together. when they are walking some of them are hobbling indicating they do have injuries to their hooves. veterinarian is treating hooves with ointment. they were surrendered by the milpitas property owner. he kept five goats that did not appear to be injured. animal services plans to put 15 goats up for adoption after they have recuperated. sky 7 showed us it is remarkable they all survived the fire. >> some of them i think are going to make a decently good recovery. i think some of them, i'm more on the fence of right now. i'm not sure how they're going to do.

marsh drive near buchanan field. >> abc7 news reporter leslie brinkley is live at the scene with the latest. leslie? >> reporter: quite the scene. we have busy highway 4 behind us. we have a major intersection and a plane crashing in the middle of it, you see it back there right on the corner at 2:45 this afternoon. that's when this small single engine glass star plane went down. let's take a look at a view from sky 7 of the wreckage. the plane was taking off from buchanan field when the pilot reported a mechanical problem. the plane turned around to come back, but missed the runway just a few hundred feet away really from the air field. the plane crashed into a stop light at this intersection sheering off one of the wings. witnesses at an adjacent car dealership told abc7 news they saw no smoke from the plane as it came down. it did not catch fire. the pilot was the only one on board and was pulled out of the plane by a
