by fremont police. tonight a witness is telling abc7 news what happened seconds before an officer opened fire. good evening. i'm am da dates. >> i'm dan ashley. that man shot by police is alive and at the hospital. it happened around 4:00 this afternoon on mory avenue. >> katie mar zu la is live with our developing story. >> reporter: ama, dan, police were here for hours but cleared the scene a few moments ago. the shooting happened over in front of that yellow truck. we talked with a woman who saw it happen and she shared video she captured on her cell phone. >> he was crying on the ground and bleeding on the ground. >> reporter: she took the cell phone video. you can see a man on the ground, an officer standing over him. she described for us what she saw just before the shooting. >> i saw the officer telling him to stop, telling him to drop what he had in his hand and then he proceeded to run, chasing

him, the young man. >> reporter: she was shocked as the what happened next. >> i thought he was pulling his taser out but he pulled out his gu i said my god, he just shot him three times. >> police say just before 3:00 in the afternoon, someone flagged down the officer to point out the man. >> the citizen advised him that a subject was waving a pipe, threatening people. >> reporter: the officer found the man in the shopping center at mory avenue. >> there was some sort of confrontation which led to shots being fired. >> reporter: police say they're still investigating what happened during the confrontation but did recover the pipe and say the man was taken to a trauma center. his condition is not known. the officer placed on administrative leave. this is the fourth officer involved shooting in fremont this year. katie marzullo, abc7 news. now to video you'll see only on abc7 news. a pickup truck involved in a deadly wreck in the east bay rolling over seconds after impact.

look at what happened here this morning in alameda. two people were killed. and news since 6:00, concerned neighbors are saying drivers need to slow way down. lonnie rivera is live in alameda tonight. >> reporter: that's right, dan. park street is back open here this evening but there's a lamp post missing from this corner. it was damaged just from the jolt of this fatal crash. it's a frightening image of a pickup truck captured on this surveillance video. witnesses say it was going close to 60 miles per hour through alameda's shopping district. they say it ran lights, then the driver lost control, rolling it over. >> i heard it flipping. it was -- it was crazy. >> reporter: cole hickman just arrived to work at a nearby restaurant and helped comfort the driver of the minivan clipped by the truck. >> she was shaking definitely shaking, crying.

really scared. >> reporter: alameda police say the full-sized pickup truck was carrying seven people, two of them died. five others are in critical condition. the woman in the van was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. the investigation is just beginning, but police confirm speeding was a factor. >> getting across the street can be difficult even at the best of times because you push the button, the lights come on but nobody stops. >> reporter: locals say speeding is a huge problem along park street. >> everybody is kind of upset really that it's an ongoing problem in alameda which is why the campaign was launched. >> because of the accident and because there was a body lying in the parking lot when i got here, seemed to make sense to close for the day. >> reporter: the monday holiday likely kept people away during the time of the crash, possibly preventing a bigger tragedy. in alameda, lonni rivera, abc7 news. also in the east bay, state safety inspectors are taking a close look at the water slide

where a boy flew off and landed on the concrete below. abc7 news was in dublin where the safety inspectors met with the manufacturers and contractors. video shows a 10-year-old boy careening off the slide at the water park during opening day at the park. fortunately, he wasn't seriously hurt. parents at the park made their own risk assessments today. >> these kind of accidents do happen. and i'm sure people are taking care of that. >> i'll check out the slides first to see if i think it's okay and let him know which ones to go on and which ones not to go on. >> the slide involved in the acident and i second similar one remain closed indefinitely. an 82-year-old south bay man is considered a hero tonight after fighting off a burglar 30 years his junior. abc 67 news was in san jose where yousef showed us where his wife, 76-year-old christina was attacked last night in the backyard of their home when a

would be burglar hit her in the head with a large stick. she screamed for her husband who went right after the woman. >> i catch him. she hid me. she was like tiger. very strong. >> he held the woman till deputies arrived and arrested rehnu singh. his wife received eight stitches to her head but she's okay. breaking news in the last hour, we learned former dictator of panama manuel noriega has died. he was the head of military in panama from '83 till 1989 when the u.s. invaded the central american country. u.s. agents arrested him on drug and money laundering charges. he's been in intensive care since march. nor yea ga was 83 years old. president trump's son-in-law may have been looking for a direct line to putin during a meeting in december.

investigators believe that may it be why jared kushner met with sergei. investigators want to know if he asked for a way to communicate with the president away from intelligence. the meeting was just to assist with the white house transition a spokesperson said. it's a game not forgotten anytime soon. check this out. a bench-clearing brawl between the giants and the nationals at at&t park this afternoon has everyone in the sports world talking tonight and fans say it involves a beef dating back more than two years ago. new details from abc7 news reporter lilian kim in the newsroom. lilian? >> it appears giants pitcher hunter strickland was reviving an old grudge that involves bryce harper and their encounter during the playoffs. giants reliever hunter strickland threw a 9-mile-per-hour fastball that ended up hitting the him of bryce harper. harper charged the mound and the two the threw punches as the

benches clears. no surprise, fans we talked to were quick to blame the other team. >> it was right there inside by the knees. i thought it was overreaction by harper. >> as expected strickland denied hitting bryce intentionally. >> i left the ball over the plate a couple times and he's taken advantage of them. mostly go inside and i got it too far. >> reporter: it's the first time since the two faced off since 2014 when harper hit two monster home runs off strickland. nationals fans say it was obviously today's incident was in direct response to the past. >> i think it's ridiculous to charge the mound. i also think it's ridiculous to like hold a grudge from a playoff series two years ago that you won. >> reporter: regardless of who is to blame, fans were disheartened a nice day at the ballpark ended the way it did. >> memorial day is like one of those times and baseball is america's pastime where it seems pretty sacred. it was quite opposite from that. >> it's a scary thing for a kid to see that when these people

tonight, we have new details on tiger woods dui arrest in florida. the famed golfer is now apologizing to his fans and saying the arrest had nothing to do with alcohol. abc news reporter danya bacchus has more about woods' night in jail and the impact this latest blow could have on his legacy. >> reporter: a police mugshot showing one of the world's most famous athletes disheveled. police pulling tiger woods over just after 3:00 monday monk near his jupiter, florida home. according to the arrest report, he was stopped for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. the palm beach sheriff's office book him at 7:18 and releasing him by 10:50. the pro golfer addressing the arrest in a statement monday night saying he takes full

responsibility and alcohol was not involved but it was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. 'apologizes to his family, friends and fans. >> now. >> this isn't the first time the golf great has had trouble behind the wheel. in 2009, he was suspected of driving under the influence after a crash that would ultimate little reveal his numerous affairs and the breakup of his marriage. >> there it is. >> woods, who was once ranched the world's top golfer has continued to try to fight his way back up to the top. but with crippling back and knee injuries he's only played once this seen. >> the mind is sharp. i need the body willing to do it. >> last month woods saying he felt no pain on "good morning america." this run-in with the law possibly threatening the comeback he's been hoping for. >> i think this changes everything for tiger woods. at age 41, unexpected and really could dee rail any chances he

>> hundreds of people attended the ceremony at the presidio in san francisco which dates back to the 1880s. it's the largest service on the west coast. >> you can see why with music, uniformed marching and stories of prolt o patriotism. in the north bay, people backed the streets for a parade that included patriotic sights and sounds. this year it also included this float from the bamboo doo theater that features lady liberty scolding a bobblehead donald trump. the man behind it says it was to express frustration with the president. there were supporters in the crowd but some people thought it was just inappropriate for memorial day. >> in milpitas, several hundred people saluted our veterans. they spoke about the importance of memorial day. names of residents who lost their lives were read out out ot

tonight, david louie who is celebrating 45 years right here at abc7. he started when i was like 6 i think. he joined abc news on this day in 1972. he was one of the first asian-american tv reporters in the bay area and he's been on the air the longest. today he talked about the longevity of his career. >> i keep wondering how long can a career last. we've been fortunate at abc7 surrounded by really great people, producers and writers and managers who really get it and focused on doing the best job we can covering the news in the bay area. >> you are a great journalist and a pleasure to work with. it's our honor. here's to many more stories yet to be told. david will be at it tomorrow morning first thing telling another story. all right. >> no signs of slowing down. >> not at all. >> the saying is that elephants never forget. apparently hunter strickland doesn't either. did a grudge three years in the making set up a wild brawl between the giants and the nationals today? spor

strickland went hunting at at&t park today. he hit his target and the target hit back. in this case, bryce harper of the nationals. as you've seen earlier, this turned into a brawl. a nice lazy day at the yard for most of the afternoon. as for the baseball, matt moore seven innings. allowed two runs. that was too much more the giants to overcome. ryan zimmerman his 14th of the year. let's get ready to rumble. strickland drills harper, 9-mile-an-hour. at least he didn't go for head. harper sends his helmet flying one way. he said he was trying to pitch inside. he doesn't like harper because he hit a couple homers off him in the 2014 playoffs. a big collision. jeff samardzija right here and michael morris crashing into each other. lucky nobody got seriously hurt there. harper and strickland ejected. suspensions coming. the giants lose 3-0. as for that pitch. >> i didn't expect that. it's part of the game.
