$1 million settlement in her favor, the young woman at the center of an east bay sex scandal appeared before reporters. >> i feel happy that i can close this chapter and move on with my life. >> reporter: now 19, jasmine was just 17 when she began having sex she claims with more than a dozen police officers, including some oakland, richmond and livermore. and alameda and contra costa county sheriffs. in a late night session, the oakland city council approved a $989,000 settlement with jasmine. about a third of that will go to attorney's fees. >> most importantly, this case is about bad, bad outrageous behavior on the part of people who are police officers who were sworn to uphold the law and engage in regular conduct, violating the very oath of law enforcement they had taken. >> it was in the best interest of the city to settle this matter quickly and fairly. we need to focus our attention

afternoon. hours after a truck leaked hazardous material. authorities closed the ramp around noon after a big rig overturned. the truck driver suffered minor injuries and the chp just announced that connector is going to be closed for hours more. the oakland city council has approved a nearly $1 million settlement with a woman formerly known as laura anthony was there. she spoke to the media today. she was at the center of a sex scandal that rocked the oakland police department and four officers were fired. president trump has not made a final decision on whether to pull out of the paris climate accord. business leaders including exxon/mobil and tesla's ceo elon musk have urged the president to remain a part of that deal. this comes as more of the president's associates are being caught up in the russia investigation. new subpoenas just issued a short time ago. abc7 news reporter lana zach joins us live from washington, d.c. with the story. lana?

>> reporter: hi there, larry. several new subpoenas coming from congress from it appears congressman devin nunes who recused himself from the russia investigation. so, there are a lot of kbez about that right now. and white house press spokesman sean spicer was asked several questions about that russia investigation. he declined largely to answer saying now all of those questions should be referred to outside counsel. democrats are pushing back on allegations that they are delaying the public testimony of carter page. a former foreign policy advisor for the trump campaign. page sent a letter to the intelligence committee reiterating his eagerness to have an open meeting to address what he called false or misleading testimony about him. the president tweeted his support for page wednesday morning, once again calling the investigation a witch hunt. but adam schiff, the ranking democrat on the house intelligence committee pushed back, saying the committee intends to review documents before calling witnesses and, quote, the pace of those interviews will be dictated by the needs of the investigation and not the preferences of outside parties. also haunting the white house,

questions about the president's son-in-law jared kushner and his dealings with the russian bank known to the fbi as a base for russian spies, including this one, who is back in moscow after pleading guilty and spending time in a u.s. prison. >> this was an actual trained operative spy operation in new york targeting humana sets. >> reporter: the president maintains the russian investigations are a lame excuse for democrats for why they lost the election, a sentiment echoed by vladimir putin. he told reporters the allegations against his government are a fictional excuse by those who lost the election. and a new development out of washington here tonight, the former fbi director, the fired james comey has been given the green light to testify publicly before the senate intelligence committee and we are told, larry, that can happen as early as next week. he said he wants to do it publicly so that he can clear the air about his reputation and answer some of those questions

about the conversations he had with the president. larry? >> that will be interesting. also, president trump is expected to make a decision on the paris climate agreement. when might we hear something and there have been reports that [ inaudible ]. >> reporter: i lost you there, larry. but the president has said that he intends to make a decision sometime this week. he is being lobbied, he says, by both sides, including by his secretary of state and former exxon/mobil ceo rex tillerson. he is strongly in favor of staying in the paris accord. we do understand, though, that at this moment the president is said to be leaning towards pulling out. larry? >> all right, lana, thank you. lana zach in washington. a new york based group investigating a chinese company that produces ivanka trump brand shoes is calling for the release of three of its investigators. one was detained and two went missing while working under cover at two factories in china. china labor watch believes the missing men are being held by

police or perhaps the factory. the men found evidence that employees were working for as many as 18 hours a day for little pay. the company also produces footwear sold by other brands such as coach. >> a congressional leader is cautioning that america's $40 billion missile defense system still has a long way to go before it can be considered fully developed. the remark comes a day after the pentagon says it successfully shot down a test inter-continental ballistic missile using a long-range intercepter missile filed from van den berg air force base. the test cost $244 million. adam smith praised the test but says more needs to be done to ensure the system is reliable and effective. some experts believe north korea might be able to build a missile advanced enough to reach the u.s. west coast in two to three years. >> at least 90 people have been killed by a suicide truck bomb in afghanistan, more than 400 others were injured. it happened in one of the most

secure areas of kabul, not far from the u.s. embassy. abc7 news reporter molly hunter has the details. >> reporter: the deadly est attack in the afghan capital in years, during the muslim holy month of ramadan, and during the heart of rush hour traffic. here, this is the moment the massive car bomb explodes, captured by an office camera. striking in one of the most secure, most heavily fortified neighborhoods in kabul. right near the british and german embassies, just a mile from the u.s. embassy. the death toll, more than 80 people, and nearly 400 others wounded. there are people inside this car. he says they're still alive, but the car door is stuck and we can't get them out. medical teams on the scene but not enough. the injured being taken away in any available vehicles. he says, i heard a terrible sound. when i opened my eyes, there was blood coming out of my shoulder.

and the u.s. embassy condemning the attack. the death toll sure to rise the agony of a city that has suffered so much. neither isis nor the taliban has claimed responsibility yet. surprisingly, though, the taliban immediately condemned the attack, but who is behind today's carnage, we still don't know. in london, molly hunter, abc news. >> the property close to where suspect salman with the attack. abedi acted mainly alone and purchased most of the bomb materials himself. 22 people were killed while leaving an ariana grande concert on may 22nd. grande is returning to manchester sunday to headline a benefit concert for the victims. this afternoon we have a new look inside the pulse night club the night of that deadly shooting almost a year ago.

sun's radiation atmosphere until now. >> it's a mission of extremes. >> reporter: it may seem like the trailer for a sci-fi block buster. >> humanity's first mission to touch the sun. >> reporter: but there is nothing fictional about this. nasa's newly unveiled plan to enter the sun's atmosphere. >> it is going to be the hottest, fastest mission. >> reporter: the parker solar probe named after and honoring researcher dr. eugene parker. >> hooray for solar probe. >> reporter: will launch in the summer of 2018. at its fastest, traveling 430,000 miles an hour. >> flight traveling to tokyo in less than a minute. >> reporter: the unmanned probe will get 7 times closer to the sun than any spacecraft in history, reaching the outer atmosphere called the corona to study why it is even hotter than the surface of the sun. collecting data to give scientists a better understanding of how stars work and to help predict major space

weather events that impact technology and satellite. >> until you actually go there and touch the sun, you really can't answer these questions. >> reporter: and testing is still underway ahead of next year's launch. live in los angeles, marcy gonzalez, abc7 news. alma, back to you. >> all right, marcy gonzalez, thank you. >> the airline boarding pass could be going the way of the dinosaur on jetblue. the carrier plans to begin testing a facial recognition check-in program next month. passengers will step up to a camera and the kiosk will compare that facial scan to the person's passport photo. if the match is made, the passenger can get on the plane. delta plans to test its own face scanning technology this summer that will focus on checking in luggage. nest is unveiling its own facial recognition system. the nest cam iq zoom feature activates when a person walks by and follows them to capture a clear shot. this is video by the way from nest. the indoor camera will send an alert to a phone with a picture
