>> reporter: police say 33 year old matthew bait from the northern territory of australia was killed after an argument outside the hotel. >> the altercation turned physical. at some point during the altercation, the victim sustained some injuries and was later transported to the hospital. at the hospital the vic tm was pronounce the deceased from his injuries. >> reporter: after a search, police detained two suspects for questioning. >> when we got around the hotel we could see that the police was in one of the rooms and they were like standing eight or ten guys in this one room in the hotel. >> reporter: droneview7 was over the hotel which occupies almost one city block. hotel management had no comment on the crime. in san francisco, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> sky 7 flew over richmond after an amtrak train struck and killed a man. it happened about 11:45 this morning along the tracks that run next to giant row.

amtrak service was delayed, of course. amtrak police are trying to find out why that man was on the tracks. and sky 7 shows the fire damage to a home in san jose today. it started early this afternoon at a house on fishburne avenue in the southern part of the city. you can see through the roof wooden rafters are charred. there is extensive damage as you can see. but the good news, no one was hurt. but you can see the roof really ripped apart by the flames. >> well, today marks six months since the ghost ship warehouse fire in oakland that killed 36 people. >> the alameda county district attorney has not yet filed criminal charges. abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow is live in oakland with more on the story. melanie? >> reporter: dan and alma, there was a meeting on-site that included attorneys for the owner of this building as well as the victims' attorneys, some of them, and investigators that they've hired. the owner of the building tour, inc., wants to repair the roof for businesses to operate here, but those victims' attorneys want to make sure that any

evidence that is still inside the ghost ship warehouse six months after this fire is preserved. outside the boarded up ghost ship warehouse there is an artist tribute to the 36 people who lost their lives in a fire here. many of them were artists, too. >> that's the tragedy that will never leave me. >> reporter: the council man recalls standing outside the ghost ship warehouse with young people realizing they lost their friends. it opened up an endless stream of questions for the city for the need to housing and accountability. we we have a cost of living crisis in oakland and we have to think about how our laws are forcing people to live under the radar in unsafe conditions. >> i can't tell the public we are going to hire more fire marshals and inspectors, building inspectors. >> reporter: the council man said it is not just fire safety. residents have also since approached the city about mold and other unsafe living

conditions. >> at the end of the day, it is up to the property owner to take care of the property. >> reporter: the alameda county d.a.'s office has not filed criminal charges against the property owner or the one who leased the building. the d.a. office said it is still investigating. another tribute is along lake merritt. many families have joined civil lawsuits that name the city, pg&e, ion and others. >> it's not over. >> reporter: six months since the ghost ship warehouse fire, a tragic anniversary with a criminal investigation by the d.a.'s office into who is responsible still ongoing. in oakland, melanie woodrow, abc7 news. >> comedian kathy griffin's june 17th show at the uptown theater in napa has been canceled. the theater made that announcement on its facebook page about an hour ago. everyone who already has tickets will get refunds. earlier today griffin spoke publicly for the first time since apologizing for the

belmont. >> reporter: a section of san juan boulevard in belmont is a mess. thousands of gallons of water rushed down from above. backed up from two homes below. >> i can't believe it was so violently coming down the hill. >> i looked at my wife and said get the kids in the car, we're getting out of here. i called 911. >> reporter: at 3:45 a six-inch pipe broke. the water district said the water line dated back to 1968 and it failed due to its age. >> the estimates we're getting from the water department now is it flowed for a little over two hours at approximately a thousand gallons a minute. so, we're looking at about 120,000 gallons of water. >> reporter: four homes were evacuated because it was unclear if they were structurally safe. city engineers spent the morning assessing the area and allowed all the families back into their homes except for one. >> they did advise us not to be in the house because the trees -- there is erosion under the trees and the trees could come down on the house as well as the structure up above us could come down, the hillside.

>> reporter: one of the homes at the top of the hill sustained damage. the city determined the foundation underneath this driveway is not stable and the people who live here cannot park their car or use that driveway. reporting from belmont, jeannine de la vega, abc7 news. >> crews in the east bay doing some heavy lifting today. abc7 news was there as a sky crane came to help get the road reopened. the camera was kept way back for safety reasons. you can see these guys are like mountain climbers. the road has been closed for weeks after storms hammered the canyon and it sent huge rocks down into the roadway that connects highway 84 near fremont to 580 just outside castro valley. >> this is the price of living in california. you take the beauty along with the challenges of living here. this is a steep canyon road and, so, sometimes things come down. >> he's right about that. this wire netting will go up

next to help stabilize that canyon wall. it's a 1 1/2 million dollars fix. if things go well, the road could reopen by the end of the month. >> a mother and her child escaped serious injuries after being hit by a car in san francisco. sky 7 flew above the scene at park presidio boulevard in the richmond district. a toyota rav 4 hit them at 10:30 this morning, at the entrance to the highway 1 approach to the golden gate bridge. one neighbor told abc7 news this intersection can be dangerous. >> cars come off the highway going pretty fast, ready to go out of the city going fast ready to get on the highway. people need to pay attention. >> the driver remained at the scene and spoke with investigators. police haven't determined if that driver was at fault for today's accident. livermore police are calling on residents to take precautions because of a surge in vehicle thefts there. the department released this map. each of those red icons indicate

a demonstration demanding better security and a resignation of the current afghan government turned deadly today in kabul. more than a thousand people clashed with police on the streets in the wake of a powerful truck bomb attack that killed 90 people on wednesday. riot police used water canons and tear gas to block protesters. at least four protesters were killed when officers fired into the crowd. four officers were injured. >> violence on our streets as well. police in oakland are searching for whoever shot and killed two people early this morning. it happened just before 1:30 this morning at 85th and international in east oakland. police say two adults were found with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene. the victims have not yet been identified. police are still investigating

the circumstances surrounding this shooting. well, it is called operation code red and this afternoon a group of committed women is trying to stop prostitution here in the bay area and across the country. >> we love people. and we know -- you know, sometimes you have to keep working and working because they're going to come. they're going to come. >> silvia spent between three and 6:00 a.m. out on the streets of oakland last night. she said she saw ten girls out there and tried to reach as many of them as she could. this afternoon abc7 news was in oakland where operation code red and victory outreach held a rally with council man noel gallow. he praised all the hard work they're doing. >> really grateful to victory outreach for being on the street. daughter, someone's 's mother out there, someone's sister out there. and if that was my sister, i would want someone to reach her. >> the girls were all invited to a special dinner tonight from their operation code red will offer them places to stay in recovery homes.

not yet charged them. a story you'll see only on 7, laura anthony reported racist graffiti has been found at castro valley high school the second straight day. coming up at 5:00, students tell her why it is part of a larger problem. and the mayor of pittsburgh, pennsylvania tweeted oakland mayor libby schaaf saying he is glad they are among cities citie following the paris agreement. it will go renewable after the president specifically referred to the city while announcing our nation's withdrawal from the paris accord. there has been strong reaction to that decision. and today the epa director would not say whether the president thinks climate change is even real. abc7 news reporter janai norman is live in washington with the latest. hi, janai. >> reporter: hey, dan. leaders across the country and around the world are still speaking out about the president's decision and reaffirming that they will continue to uphold the paris climate agreement regardless.

the citizens of pittsburgh, not paris. >> reporter: the mayor of pittsburgh speaking out, joining the dozens of american mayors and business leaders vowing to comply with the paris climate accord. >> pittsburgh is the example of what is really at the heart of the paris agreement and how a city that was facing economic collapse was able to come back through innovation and change. >> people had called me a climate skeptic or climate dee nier. i don't know what it means to deny the climate. i would say there are climate exaggerators. >> reporter: and the attorney general scott pruitt sued the environmental protection agency he now runs over efforts to regulate pollution. and, dan, the president's latest budget actually proposes to cut funding to the epa nearly in half. >> that's right. janai, around the country, state, city leaders are taking a big step to show their support. what are you hearing there? >> reporter: absolutely, states like new york, washington state,

california where you are are coming together to create the u.s. climate alliance to uphold the paris climate agreement. so far more than 61 u.s. mayors are pledging to do the same. some of those mayors even signing executive orders over the issue. so, lots of lawmakers, leaders in cities and states here in the u.s. coming together to uphold that. >> a growing list. janai, thanks so much. janai norman reporting for us from washington. a berkeley doctor who disagrees with the president trump's actions is behind an effort to get him removed from office. dr. kenneth is drafting an amendment to the u.s. constitution that would allow voters to recall a president. the only process right now is impeachment which involves both houses of congress as you know. dr. matsuyama miura says a recall amendment would return power to the people and would be used in what he describes as rare desperate situations. >> the sentiment against mr. trump is so overwhelming, i believe something that seems

almost impossible to do will happen. >> in 2009 dr. matsumara was behind a failed effort to recall california governor arnold schwarzenegger. >> challengers to president trump's travel ban for a response to the government's appeal of a lower court ruling blocking the order, that request comes a day after the administration asked the high court to immediately reinstate its ban on travelers from six mostly muslim countries and refugees from anywhere in the world. the administration says the u.s. will be safer if the policy is put in place. last month a federal court in virginia ruled the order likely violates the constitution because its primary purpose is to discriminate against muslims. u.s. embassies around the world are stepping up the vetting of visa applicants. the new process includes a new supplemental questionnaire for both visitors and would-be immigrants that probes for detailed information including social media handles.

it is a move to block security threats from entering the u.s. it is to remain in effect through november, but it is expected to be updated and made permanent. >> russian president vladimir putin devilves into american politics and ridicules accusations of interfering in the 2016 election. the russian leader described claims of tampering in the presidential election as, quote, nothing concrete, only assumptions. putin even blamed u.s. democrats for failing to admit their own mistakes as a party for losing last year's election. >> we are learning more about that deadly attack at a popular resort in the philippines. nearly three dozen people were killed. abc7 news reporter maggie ruely has more on the chaotic night in the manila casino. >> reporter: today manila is in mourning after the deadly attack on the casino left at least 35 dead, including this woman's daughter-in-law.

she left behind young children and she says she can't accept what happened to her. the daughter-in-law was working on the second floor when the gun fire broke out at midnight local time. eyewitnesses say an armed man stormed the packed world resort casino. >> you guys, i can hear gunshots. >> reporter: setting tables on fire, using gasoline to make the flames and smoke leap through the crowd. >> he started a huge fire. okay. >> reporter: authorities found the victim suffocated from smoke inhalation. many of them hiding in the bathroom. after seven long hours, authorities discovered the suspect had taken his own life. >> we are still investigating and trying to ascertain why somebody would be so senseless. >> reporter: authorities in manila are insisting it was a casino heist gone wrong. the suspect attempted to steal some $2.3 million worth of casino chips. in a new statement, isis has claimed responsibility for the attack and the philippine government is currently fighting

against an isis affiliated group in the region. but so far they insist this is not a terror related incident. maggie ruely, abc7 news new york. >> a popular festival in germany, julian kern posted this video outside nuremberg. police say they received information about a concrete threat. this comes just after last month's deadly bombing at an ariana grande concert in england of course. they hope to continue the festival tomorrow. ariana grande, meantime, will return to manchester this weekend for a star study benefit concert for the victims of last month's terror attack at the end of one of her shows. the pop star will be joined by justin bieber, katie perry, miley cyrus, coldplay, usher, and pharrell. the may 22 terrorist attack came at the end of grande's concert at manchester arena.

u.s. economy gained about 138,000 jobs last no. that's fewer than the 185,000 that economists expected. unemployment numbers fell slightly by 1/10 of a percent to 4.3% despite the hiring slow down. now, the biggest job gains came in food service, health care and construction. manufacturers and retailers both shed jobs last month. some analysts feel the federal reserve may raise interest rates next month due to the latest jobs numbers. we'll have to see. >> is the bay area starting to lose some of its allure? possible. >> linked in released a report saying more workers are now favoring other metropolitan areas. so, what is keeping people from moving here? >> abc7 news reporter chris nguyen has the story.

>> reporter: the bear is one of the most dynamic places in the country. it comes as no surprise it is one of the most expensive. >> i was born here and i can't even afford a home here myself. so, i'm renting right now and the rent is really, really high. >> reporter: at times the struggle to just survive is so real. >> it's kind of a heavy hit. i think at the grocery stores or whatever, just the basic stuff the cost of living is more expensive here. that could be the problem. >> reporter: a new report by linked in showing fewer people are moving to the bay area. the net number of workers moving here has dropped 17% since february. although the region still gains more workers than it loses, the study shows many are now choosing cities like seattle, portland and denver since they are cheaper to live in. >> the rest of the country is closer to full employment. the workers have a better option of where to move. >> reporter: will this have an effect on local home prices? not so says the association of

>> bad news, cheap houses don't exist in the bay area. here is the tried and true way to get the house you want. i grew up here. this is how it works. you buy outside of the bay area after a few years and you buildup a little equity. you sell that house and buy on the out skirts of the bay area. few years later you move closer to your goal finally you get the neighborhood you want to live in. it isn't fast. it takes time, but the appreciation here in the bay area makes all of this possible. all my friends from high school did this. >> the key is get in the game. >> get in the game. juliann aerks from alameda asks would it be cheaper to buy tickets at the box office or online? >> they trick you on this one. back in the day you avoided all the fees by buying at the box office in person. but no more, times have changed. sometimes you can get a deal by going to the box office. sometimes you can, but often you don't. i don't think it's fair, but it is legal. you can actually go to the box office and pay every single online fee that you pay when you
